I've Boughten an unlocked Galaxy Note 3 SM-9005 on ebay. To use for straight talk in the United States. The first sim card i had in it was a normal sized sim card that i had cut (instead of micro) And after fiddling this sim card had worked from 4-5 days. Then i started to get the error message "No service" and "Not registered on Network" I had figured the sim was probably the reason to why i was not being allowed to call or message. So i bought another brand new micro sim card. And then put that in (Again with straight talk) and i am still unable to call or message. I have checked my imei number and it is the same as the one on the back of the phone. I have tried to re-register on the network within the settings on the phone. With no luck whatsoever. I have noticed that the CSC is not correct for the united states. And in hopes of fixing it i rooted and installed a custom rom. (IMEI is still the same)
If someone could please help...I am Stumped

Given the details that you have provided so far the most likely scenarios that I see are:
1) there is a mechanical problem on the SIM contact
2) the seller was on some form of a contract and has reported the phone stolen, so the IMEI is now blocked on some or all carriers.
DO NOT MINGLE WITH THE FIRMWARE at this point (and also disable any automatic updates of the firmware).
Also if you want further technical info (and not just guesswork) you should post the output from *#1234#

It really does depend on the issues xclub has brought up.
If it was me, I'd rule out SIM issue (the card itself) due to having a replacement, although it could be an issue with the SIM Tray.
And if it is used, then yes it is possible that it has been blocked by the original owner.
EDIT : Do you guys in the US have an IMEI checker for blocked IMEI's etc? in Europe we do it's called CHECK MEND.. Might be worth having a look or alternatively give your network a ring, they'll know for sure.

Ok so you have the same firmware as me, I am using BTU which is UK (I am UK) - So your CSC does indeed need changed to match you for US use - -- Firstly does your network support the available frequency required? (do you have LTE?) - If so you can change you CSC to your required region But another factor --- are you aware of region lock? has it been disabled that you know of? - this could cause some issues if it hasn't been deactivated - I'm not sure when changing CSC/firmware if it reactivates region locking or not
EDIT: I think only T-Mobile supports the N9005 in the US ( I could be wrong) --- Need a US user to chime in here I think to be 100% sure!!
Going with an Unknown carrier on CSC/FW- May not solve it

Don't see why not, plenty of people are buying them and plenty selling them.
majority of users have no idea what Knox is tbh, it's ultimately up to you if you disclose this to them or not.

That looks like EU version. Since somewhere else you mentioned that you rooted then the next thing to try is Region Lock Away:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470551
since the phone might now be "hit" by the EU region lock (an even simpler test would be to insert an EU SIM just to see if it registers on some network for roaming). If RegionLockAway fixes things you can then see what version of firmware you want in order to get LTE from your carrier.
If you want to sell the phone - being rooted might even be a plus, but having Knox 0x1 is certainly a major minus.
I did get region unlock and it did not work. And when i try to install the unknown firmware i am unable to flash it with odin i get all sorts of errors (I tried two of the unknowns) BTW thanks for the help
Please help, I flashed it to Android 5.0 and I did root for it and used region unlock app and still I face the same issue, please help me
[Q] New N900 has bad signal and "your device has been modified" update error
Hello forum,
I am in the UK using a Virgin sim and my girlfriend bought this phone new in china and flew it over to me. At the moment the signal is really bad wherever I go (the same SIM card in my old galaxy nexus had great signal in all these places) so I was wondering if there was any way to make the signal better?
Also I tried to do an update through the settings menu hoping this would sort out the signal problem and it is giving me the "your device has been modified. no updates available for this device." error even though the phone is new.
the information about the device is as follows:
when I type *#1234# I get:
AP: N900ZSUBMI5
CP:N900XXUBMI2
CSC:N900OZSBMI2
In my "about device" within settings, the following is given:
Model number: SM-N900
Android version: 4.3
Baseband version: N900XXUBMI2
Kernel version: 3.4.39-1625296
#1
Wed Sep 11 19:49:31 KST 2013
Build number: JSS15J.N900ZSUBMI5
SELinux status: Enforcing
If I reboot to recover it opens:
CWM-based Recovery v6.0.4.5
Compiled by Xiaolu(20131121)
When I try to check knox I cant see it (I go into odin mode and the top left just says the following):
CURRENT BINARY: Custom
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
(I now understand the N900 doesn't have knox)
Thanks for looking, any feedback at all would be much appreciated :good:

Well it looks great. At least I can be sure that your phone shouldn't be a fake. It is of Hong Kong or Taiwan origin, Exynos, running 4.3 on N900ZSUBMI5.
You have CWM Recovery, Xiaolu's port of it. Hence that device was probably rooted prior to getting it handed over to your girlfriend. KNOX is only present on the MJ and onward firmwares, and you happen to be on an MI firmware so you don't have it activated yet.
Check the section for Network/Bearer and Wireless Connectivity on this link: http://www.samsung.com/levant/consumer/mobile-phones/mobile-phones/galaxy-note/SM-N9000ZKEXSG-spec
Match it up with your country's network specifications. There's a reason why these phones don't get sold worldwide, as they aren't all compatible with every region. Also remember to set correct APN values for your country.

okay thanks for your reply, I believe the frequencies virgin use are 1800MHz and 2100MHz which can both be used with this phone. The APN settings were downloaded automatically when the phone was first booted and I also manually checked them and they are correct.

What is your network switch options in Settings?
Do you have it to HSPA/GSM (auto connect) set? [Sorry if it's not exactly the same, I don't have the N900 model]
My friend pointed this out to me just before I saw your message, the options available are only wcdma/gsm hspa isn't an option. Im guessing from my limited knowledge that this is the problem, what is it I would need to do to fix this? thanks again.

Actually, I asked my friend who has the N900, he's reporting the same as you. So no problem in that.
There must be something else that can be isolated to find what's going on. You can try to upgrade the phone to the latest modem by flashing the latest 4.4.2 ROM.
Okay, what would be the best way to flash the latest ROM? Would this be a custom ROM or is there a way to get the official one? Thanks again.
Edit: I have now tried putting Dr Ketans rom on it, telling it to use the ROMs modem, and that still didnt fix the problem. I have also tried flashing some other modems from the GSM modems collection thread but the problems persist. The symptoms are as follows:
Frequently looses signal
only ever shows the E or G symbol for mobile internet connection (whereas on my other phone with the same sim it instantly gets full signal and shows H+ or 3G)
the phone has also never been able to lock onto a GPS location it only ever shows searching for GPS in the notifications bar.
Hi
My friend has got S4 (I9505). He wasn't flashing his phone with anything - it is original like it was bought. He has got now I9505XXUBMGA firmware (Android 4.2.2) with BTU CSC, which is outdated. System status says that phone is not modified, but despite this, he is unable to do OTA/Kies update. In both cases (when using OTA or when connecting to PC with Kies) he got message "This is the latest firmware". This is not true, latest for BTU CSC is I9505XXUGNG8 (Android 4.4.2).
Questions:
1) What can prevent OTA/Kies from update of unmodified phone?
2) Can software say, that phone is unmodified when it is not true? For example when flashing count is not "0"? Maybe someone flashed my friends phone before he had bought it? Changed kernel or recovery can lead to such problems?
3) Freezing of some Samsung bloatware can lead to locking both OTA and Kies on PC?
4) Are we able to diagnose this phone (how?) and fix OTA to avoid Odin flashing? (I know that there is hard to brick Samsung phone completely, but there are always some small chances that something will go wrong, my friend is not keen on flashing and I'm not so rich to buy him another one S4 when something will fail )
Thanks for answers
From what I recall, the S4 firmware will report a status of Official if all the pieces match, regardless of whether the firmware actually is for the S4 in question. So it is possible, and in fact likely, that your friend's phone was carrier branded at one point, but was then subsequently unlocked and the firmware flashed with an unbranded firmware.
You can find out if the device was flashed by entering the IMEI here. One item it will tell you is who the original carrier is. From there you can put two and two together.
Thank You very much for reply, that's important clue. I don't know how phone was bought, but CSC reports UK (BTU) and I'm not in UK - Poland. So it could be sold by some UK carrier and then unlocked to unbranded firmware.
IMEI gives no results, but I will try to get more informations about how phone was bought, that can explain a lot... Looks like in this case Odin will be only way to push Android further...
Thanks for answer, now I know for what I should look :good:
If anybody else will run into other idea - also feel free to answer, I will check anything as I want to help my friend Thanks everybody, XDA is great
Just a follow up. When you entered the IMEI at the link I gave, did it come up with the device's model number, e.g. GT-I9505ZKAXXX? If so, did yours read "GT-I9505ZKABTU" or some other model?
No, unfortunately not, I see no data after entering IMEI, only information about API, however if I enter IMEI on main page of this website I see some basic data. This lead me to information that Reporting Body Identifier is BABT (IMEI starts with 35) and BABT means United Kingdom.
Website didn't show model number, but my friend has installed Phone INFO ★Samsung★ and inside it there is model number (Product Code):
GT2I9505ZKABTU
This is very similar to Yours suggestion, but I see something weird - shouldn't be "-" after "GT" instead of "2"? Product Code with "GT2" instead of "GT-" is OK?
Thanks for answer
Then I sent you to the wrong page. You want the Samsung warranty page: https://imeidata.net/warranty/samsung
That page is the one that is supposed to tell you everything about your phone. Post that information here, minus the IMEI of course.
You had send correct link On Warranty page when I enter IMEI I got no data, only some data on mainpage of this website - looks like they don't have any information about this IMEI
I think they want you to register with the site, which is something new. Regardless, the reason we can't go by the Phone Info information your friend provided is that when a new firmware is installed the product code changes. For example, my I9505 was originally a GT-I9505ZKAO2U, which means my S4 was originally tied to the carrier O2 in the UK. Before I purchased the phone, the product code changed to GT-I9505ZKASIM, which is Slovenian firmware, specifically SI Mobil. About a month after I purchased the phone I installed a Black Edition firmware, which changed the product code to GT-I9505ZKAAUT, an unbranded Swiss firmware.
Currently on his phone is an unbranded UK firmware. If the site doesn't reveal the original carrier, the box may, depending on how long he has owned his S4. Some boxes have the product code on a label attached to the box.
Looks like website is down - after registering I got still no data, just message "The TAC info not found on database, we will update in 1-2 days."
Thanks for help - I will try to get details from my friend and I will go back to this when I will have some new infos
Hi All!
I am having a problem with a Galaxy S5 Duos (SM-G900FD) bought used recently. Both IMEI numbers seem legit 355206********* /01 and 355207********* /01, the only difference to the numbers printed on the back is after the slash, saying 355206********* /3 and 355207********* /1. Can this be the source of the problem? I have tried to flash different SM-G900FD firmwares with odin, but getting the same result. Factory reset numerous times. Everything works fine, but when trying to make a call I got the message: "Not registered on network" despite full bars on the notification bar. The phone even sees the operators, but cannot register on the network. Instead of the operator name there is: "Emergency calls only". Can it be, that I am not having the right modem version? It`s SSN is G900FDGSMH I am also noot sure which region is the phone from originally. Any help would highly appreciated.
i heard that there are some problems with S5 duos but
try to flash the software with the same CSC code n PDA version n CSC version, install phone infoapp from playstore if u dont know your CSC n PDDA
http://postimage.org/
Better get a replacement
Sent from my SM-G900H using XDA Free mobile app
Thanks for your reply!
As currently installed Phone info says:
Original CSC code: SER
Firmware`s CSC code: SER
Active CSC code: SER
CSC country: Russia
CSC Country ISO: RU
Product Code: SM-G900FZKVSER <- this is different to the one written on the back which is: SSN: G900FDGSMH, but I did not find a firmware for this number.
Still not registering on network tough.
@sandeeppathak007: I will try in a Samsung shop, but the Knox is 0x1 (4), so I guess the warranty is void.
Speak with your SIM provider
Or if you know it's working you can try to enable flight mode and then disabling it.
Post this on sammobile forums, they might help u to find the best software, btw yeah did u try another sim ??
or contac your service provider and see,as i heard there are some network problem in S5 duos
best way is to replace
Hi All, nice to meet you all here. I came from Malaysia and i facing some problem with my N9005 - Samsung Note 3 LTE and hopefully can get some helps from here. It was actually a second hand phone but with perfect exterior condition, with Samsung warranty seal to prove that never been repair before or a recon phone. Below are the problem that i realize within this few days
1. Phone have signal, but sometime unable to call in or call out, especially on low battery status (50%-30%)
2. During a phone call, receiving party always unable to hear me, sometime they will hear some strange sound and dropped call, but from my side I can hear them very clearly
3. Always changing network mode. For example 4G to HSPA+ to HSPA to EDGE to No Service
4. When phone was inside a indoor room, very poor signal & unstable, internet speed also very slow or even unable to connect. But when I walk out from the room its become better
Remark:
1. Using Lollipop 5.0
2. Have changed a brand new Sim Card
3. Have tried to move my sim card to other phone, work perfectly
4. Have tried to use other sim card, but same problem remain

I don't need IMEI atm. Well the problem here is that the person who owned the device before you, flashed a Philippines (Globe) firmware on your device. You have weak signal, weird sound, etc for that reason.
Your phone is original unlocked of Malaysia (XME) but still without Lollipop firmware. You can check it: HERE.
* SOLUTION: All zones close yours (Philippines, Thailand, etc) still without Lollipop update. You will void your warranty if you downgrade your device to android 4.4.2. Here we go:
1. I recommend you flash the Slovakia (TMS) firmware via ODIN then coz it has the Lollipop update (like in pic attached). This won't void your warranty either.
2. Dial *#1234# when the process of flash finish and have to appear this. Reflash the same firmware if not:
AP: N9005XXUGBOD6
CP: ?
CSC: N9005TMSGBOE1
3. Wait latest firmware updates of Malaysia (XME) and flash them via ODIN for receive future OTA updates too.
Hi Joku1981, thanks so much for your reply. Since the phone was actually out of warranty period, so i tried to flash back with Malaysia (XME) version of 4.4.2 kitkat (PDA: N9005XXUGNI4, CSC: N9005OLBGNL1).
But unfortunately, the result still the same. Am i missed any important step?

now try downgrading your phone with kitkat MALAYSIA firmware. it will fix your problem. i do this before. im in lollipop before but no signal, hard to send text and call. so i decided to downgrade to kitkat and it gives me a better signal.
NOTE: I flash 3x the firmware and you see the difference. :good:

Not too sure. Don't know whether wifi and reception signal sharing the same antenna device? because wifi is working fine.

leutzu, i has been tried to flash a few times with new firmware but it's still remain the same problem. I have also sent it to Samsung dealer for checking and they said probably on hardware problem. So end up to save up my time and cost, i decided to bought a new Note4 SM-N910C.
I end up sending it to Samsung, and they replaced motherboard, battery, and updated the soft.
Now it's working fine
