hi everyone
i have recently got my n4, had it on stock for a few days and battery life was fine then flashed Paranoid Android and the battery life was even better, the one day the battery life randomly was just terrible so i flash back to stock 4.3 and it has not improve, getting about 1 hour screen on time
any help will be much appreciated
Is the percentage dropping rapidly? And do you have all the features active like GPS, WiFi, BT, max brightness, etc?

Try going to 4.2.2 and see if that helps.
If your still having the issue, it's probably something wrong with your hardware (battery).

Thanks for the reply, I was hoping not to do that, I have flashed slim ROM now, see if this helps, do you think it could be because I stream music from cool Google play music ?
Usually bad battery (especially when it happens out of nowhere) is due to an app causing drain. There are apps that tell you what's eating battery (including the built in meter), the best of which is Better Battery Stats, which you can get for free from the XDA thread.
Sent from an N4 blessed with AOKP and sanctified by Faux123!
yup, majority of the time its an app(s). battery life mostly has to do with your setup, the apps that you chose to install, things that check for notifications in the background, and the way that you use your device. take control of your apps, and their/your setup, and your battery life should be good, no matter what rom/kernel youre on. greenify is a good app to help you get control of your apps.
Check your cord if its faulty, I had a faulty stock cord before telling me my phone was at 100% and when I unplugged it and used it, it went down to 50%
Changed cord, everything was fine.
Do you use a wireless charger? For me 90% of the time it creates a wakelock that won't allow the phone to go into deep sleep. That will hurt battery. If it releases that wakelock or I reboot my phone battery life is phenomenal.

hows your data signal? anyways, thats not normal. disable auto brightness, if your battery is still draining like that, then its not the auto brightness. in that case, its most likely an app, or apps.

The best you can do is to post a screenshot as someone said before. Besides of this, if you have Google Services/Android System battery drain, you can go here:

It seems that the battery drain on my newest N7 (RMA'd first one) is waay worse than on the other, I'll attach some screen shots of what I mean.. it may be just the WiFi is using a lot more than the other's :S I left it 4 hours alone with WiFi and the battery drained 20+ % which even with WiFi on seems excessive does it not? Is it possible I got one with a faulty WiFi radio? I will be testing tomorrow (or maybe tonight) to see battery drain with WiFi turned off to compare, because it also seemed to drain fast when I was just out and about with WiFi off :/ worried I have bad battery, deep sleep isn't working right (it is going into deep sleep or at least thinks it is from looking at cpuspy), or faulty WiFi... or just too early to judge XD has anyone noticed battery improve over time ? I forget if I did was a month ago I got the original
BTW first screen shot was taken pretty much right as I was leaving for work, so you can compare the battery drain there..

I doubt it's a bad wifi radio, its probably an app that is syncing like crazy in the background.
I'm currently watching the MediaServer app use a disproportionate amount of battery (14% and rising). I deleted a number of images which must of kicked in the scanner which must be very inefficient.
I also noticed my N7 become very slow at the same time.
Possibly you downloaded a large amount of images/music/etc before putting your device to sleep...

I really wish I could figure out why maps keeps starting a process.. can you check to see how many instances of maps there are ? In particular one running Prefetcherservice.. as for the other comment, media server is sitting at 6%, android is at 14%, and screen at 67%.. though I did copy a bunch of songs and pictures over after the RMA, is there a way to fix these or should I delete them to see if it gets better ?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Sigh, I might just have a bad battery, or preferably poorly calibrated, since another hour of use, just browsing and such, and I'm down 20% more -_- hope I don't have to RMA again

Bahaha good one I dunno, the problem is that this is literally my fourth N7 since the other three allll suffered from major screen lifting, so maybe I am looking for something wrong just so i can make sure it's perfect... Though I do think the battery life is pretty weak, I think I may have figured SOMETHING out, the only difference between this and my original is that my original had a huge section of the map of my area downloaded, and since I did that maps hasn't started any additional processes.. so good sign ? maybe ? haha

Yeah this might be a good time to stop looking for trouble and just enjoy the tablet for a while. I drop mine on the charger in the morning and don't ever really think about the battery other than that. Whatever the battery stats say now they won't say in a week and they won't say after you flash to a different ROM. If you have wifi on apps will sync and the tablet will loose it's charge. I'm never far enough away from an outlet to make it much of a concern. So maybe just take a breather, install the Angry Birds and have some fun for a bit. Eventually we'll have ROM's and kernels that make this thing sip electricity but for now I get the few hours a day I need out of it on one charge so I'm set.

You think the battery life will get much better than what it is? My only other android experience is my HTC Desire Z which has a horrible battery as it is so it didn't improve much at all with custom roms
Speaking of improved life through ROMs and kernels, have you noticed any kernel providing particularly better battery life ? I'm on trinity right now, no voltage changing, but underclocked to 1.1 ghz from 1.3
Factory reset, see if the problem continues. That's the only way decide if it's a HW problem.
And my N7 uses effectively 0% battery in standby, it was off the charger yesterday for 6 hours and when I started playing around it was still at 99%. I turn off wifi on screen off, however.

So it seems like partial wakelock is mostly audioout_2 which i assume comes from me playing a game with music amongst other things?
Alarms says com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox has 50 wakeups, and maps has 38 :S why does maps keep trying to kill me?! and what is the googlequicksearchbox doing waking the tablet up...
Wlan_Rx_wake seems to be the culprit of semi bad battery. Is there a way to prevent the tablet from waking up all the time? Maybe just unsync or turn off WiFi instead?

When my battery drain was bad I had something like 250+ wakeups from maps under the alarms section in only a few hours off the charger and Maps was showing up as the most common reason for partial wakelocks.
I think AudioOut_2 is normal - Im not sure what it does though. Im now at 8+ hours of standby with 99% battery. Under alarms im showing 138 Maps wakeups and 76 from google quick search box. My drain is all gone now though so i assume this is within normal range. The better battery stats thread and a few other threads on XDA have detailed descriptions of the different battery draining wakelocks and possible remedies. Not all wakelocks are bad though.
I have the European version of the phone amd seem to suffer from poor batery life. The phone can barely be used 3 hours continously. I didn't fully charge the battery the first time so is this the cause? If yes how do I fix it? Also I have everything like Wi-fi etc off so that's not the cause.

if you're comfortable rooting/flashing custom roms onto your phone I'd suggest trying that. I get twice as much battery life out of my phone with the omega 28 rom
Give betterbatterystats a go..(free to xda members) and you'll be able to determine what programs etc are draining your battery.
Your screen time of 3 hours mind you is not too far off with what you can pull off with this device.. (4 hours tends to be a good number).. also taking into account the fact the device wasn't fully charged.

I`m on stock rom. I get more than 30 hours on one charge, internet, video, email normal use. Going through a whole day is absolutely no problem.
There must be a crappy app you`ve installed that is draining your battery. You will have to find out which one it is.
Are you playing games? They will drain your battery more quickly. Also, see if any apps are running in the background. After that, un-tick the location services in the settings menu. Change to a static wallpaper. Don't set very low sync times and turn your wifi off when you're not using it.
If you're on stock, you should have around 4 hours of screen time on.
I just want to confirm whether not charging the battery first has any effect on the battery life.

Bcos there's a good chance the battery may have fully discharged between the time it's packaged and when it gets to the end user, which in some cases may take months or even over a year.

I will put this in 3 situations:
>>> Wifi or 3g and screen on continuously and web browsing = 9h
>>> Intermitent use with internet on all the time but sleeping when screen off = 24h stand by + 6h screen on
>>> Just on stand by with screen off: 1)With internet on 2% drain \ hour 2)With all internet off = 0,5% drain \ hour ...
There is many variance acording to screen brightness and economy mode on and off, but everybody can get a good fast system and average screen bright with the above result !!!
get juice defender..it is awesome!!

My battery is draining too fast after upgrading to android 4.3. Even only on 2g there is 1% decrease in battery almost after every 3 minutes. But with screen off it will remain almost at 99% after even 12 hours or more. But when I start using the phone for something like even navigating through the settings the battery drops 1% every 3 minutes or even less. My handset is about a month old. I am from India and running the ML4 android 4.3 recently released by Samsung. There is no wakelock when the screen is asleep. The phone screen consumes between 60 to 90% of the battery or more. I factory reset it thrice since the update but with no effect. I am running the 4.3 update for about 3 weeks now. I also installed Greenify, battery doctor, juice defender etc to save battery but there is no improvement. I installed the same apps that I installed on the 4.1.2 firmware but the battery is draining quite faster in the 4.3 version. I also freeze almost all bloatware using Titanium backup and even uninstalled some like Google Books etc. but no use. I don't use wifi or wifi hotspot at all. I rarely use bluetooth. GPS, location, etc off. I even freeze Google Play store, Google play services and Google services framework. No multi window, no smart stay, no s voice, no ripple effect, no live wallpaper, etc everything off but still the same. If there is anyone facing this issue and has already found the solution, please help me out.

This is funny! You mean to say that the upgrade to android 4.3 has damaged my battery? The battery is not even 1 month old as I mentioned in the first post. The battery is very good on android 4.1.2...... As I mentioned in the first post, there is no battery drain when the screen is off. Even after 24 hours the battery is 99% from 100% with screen off. Why should I checked for wakelocks when the battery is fine on screen off? I did checked it to be sure but no wakelocks. The battery problem is when I use the phone, the battery is draining abnormally when the phone is used. Anyway thanks for your reply.

Yes, 4.3 upgrade downgraded my battery life about 20% when I am using my phone. On idle it is better about 10-20% also compared with 4.1.2. It is useless to do factory resets or other nonsense. Just it is as is.

Okey So Firstly I rule Out Few Assumptions Made By Some Members(No Offense):
1) As thadoukuki said battery Drains only while using the phone and not wen its idle that means its not a wakelock for sure.
2)Secondly as the handset n battery ofcourse, are just a month old i dont even assume it to be damaged(Trust Sammy)
3)Thirdly 1% / 3Mins is quite normal on extensive Usage but as you say its just while navigating around settings etc. den i assume its a bit high.
4) Now betterbatterystats is good to identify what consumes your battery but ive never been a fan of that actually.
SO according to me try to do some trial n error work .
Instead of Freezing apps through TB u can use Greenify Donate to greenify system apps and user apps as well. It Does same job as TB freeze but without that extra hassle.
Secondly Choose a kernel that you think is battery friendly for you like the one which gives you peace of mind(Oh Yeah Battery's Draining Slow!!)
for me i'd go for Boeffla or Googymax
Choose a battery friendly Governer for ur CPU(For me Boeffla kernel with Archi_ultra_power_save governer gives great results)
Check if CPU Touch boost is Enabled in Kernel Settings coz Touch Boost gave me good performance and responsiveness but even i had observed that battery used to drain faster with it.
Battery friendly Rom with few Tweaks by xda members is always better for me over Stock( ArchiDroid Is the Rom ive ever Used){Personal Opinion}
Ppl Say undervolting helps .....hmm maybe ive never Done it but as you are very cautious about battery you may try it (on your own Risk)
Lets see if that Helps
And Lastly i never Observed much Change in Battery drain pattern wen Coming from 4.1.2 to 4.3 so thats not really true.

What's the problem with that exactly? (Most issues with battery life are user problems - usually a poor wipe / flash regime and using poor quality apps and heavy syncing. I assume you have used the usual wakelock detection procedures).

Por signal will drain your battery.
Mostly apps are draining it post a screanshots of your battery stats.
Install gsam to see what's draining..

What do you define as "very bad", and how do you actually use your phone?
We can't guess to help you.

Yes, that's a big one on ma d802. If i'm in a room with bad connection, the battery goes down much faster then usual.

I would try to reset everything to factory, see how it goes then. If not, flash custom rom/kernel, tweak cpu and search for wakelocks. If the problem is still present, get a new battery.

1% / 3mins sounds like 5 hours on battery to me. Reasonable, but not great.
Depends if you have your screen on during that time or not, and what brightness, and what tasks it is doing. If that is screen off at all, then it's horrible. If full brightness screen-on for the whole time, then it's ok.

Yep. If you go to Battery, is your phone intensivly active while screen is off?
My Battery atm: 1d 3h 14m with 53m screen on time at 87%, but pretty much all day on wlan.

If your phone is the international version, you have the option to buy a new battery And swap it out. I would try this since batteries are pretty cheap at the moment.
If it still drains after all these things only then do I recommend you return the phone for a new one

actually I searched for buying a battery but I did not find any website. Could you tell me where please ? thank you
Culd be som app running that is draining it.
Install a battery monitor. Like gsam then u can see what's drainimg the battery.
Try delete google+. Giving a lot wakelocks. If u are rooted install wakelock detector and let it run 2 or 3 hours and see if its under 20%

I would suggest to stop draining processes first. If stopping it doesn't cause any problems i would rather freeze than delet it.
But if it's caused by a ****ty app you downloaded, delete it right away.
if none works, get warranty
Since a few weeks I'm experiencing excessive battery drain on my stock Android Nexus 4.
What I tried without succes:
Switching from Chrome to Dolphin Browser
Lowering screen brightness
Lowering screen timeout
In the attachment you can find screenshots from monitoring app GSAM after half a day usage.
Mainly did some browsing, partly on 3G.
How to find out if the culprit is some background process, some app or some Android 4.4.* update?
First, you need an add blocker. If you're rooted try adaway. Google it.
I don't see anything terrible there. You're signals look good. But they're usually the main problem. If you had low Wi-Fi or data signals they could have caused your issue. The browser looks a little high relative to your screen on so maybe that's a little bit of an issue. Is this a one time occurrence or is it typical?

Thanks for the tip.
I've been using home WiFi and the best 3G provider of my country, so in theory the signal should be healthy.
The day before yesterday the phone shut down after 8-9 hours being on, of which 3 - 3,5 hours active usage.
While browsing I see the battery dropping about 1% per minute. This is since about 2 weeks (not sure whether it's since a certain Android update).
I've read some user complaints about battery usage with the recent Android updates, but not about solutions.
I'll attach new screenshots from GSAM later today when the battery is almost empty.
how do i wipe the battery status on nexus 4?

You don't... wiping battery stats does nothing but make you feel better.
