[Q] Very low space - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I9500, Omega 12, cross breeder, Perseus 9
Even after fresh install I have 600mb left on my system... before when I first had the phone it was atleast 4+gb
I have been through all the bloatware, and through personal files saved on the phone but it's still not giving me more than 900mb...
I'm not sure what;s the problem I have used cleaning apps but they clean the cache only
please advise Dx
Update, I have 14mb now...
update 2 : even after deleting everything from the phone memory ( which I can access) I only have 800mb (not apps)

Try installing DiskUsage from the Play Store. It is a beautifully simple visual representation of your file system and may help spot what is eating your memory.

I fixed it after trying to repartition and Nand erasing

A2SD/Low Storage Issue - HELP!!!

Can anyone explain to me why when I have a 1Gb Ext4 partition on my SD card with only 367Mb used I am getting Low Storage warning when restoring my apps (143 of them) through Titanium Backup onto a clean HardDroid2 CM7 build with A2SD flashed and confirmed working? When I check it states 199Mb used, 13Mb free but when I use Root Explorer to look into SD-Ext I have App, Private App, Data, Dalvik, etc and all of the app APKs appear to be in there. Am I missing something here? I had the same issue for the first time a couple of days ago when I reflashed Hyperdroid - never had it before, and always do full Task29/fresh MAGLDR/fresh CWM/CWM wipe wipe wipe/etc for each new ROM so SD Ext is always reformatted too. It's driving me nuts
when you install an app, the size of that app gets knocked off the available space, but gets restored when you reboot, so try installing a few, check eth remaining space, then reboot, see if the reported space changes. (Ive never tested it myself, just repeating something i read)_
..also using app2sd and my phone mem seems to decrease also.
When i look into /data and /sdext i see in both the app folder with all apps installed.
but the used space seems to be bigger on the sd-ext.
...when you install e.g. Angry birds with 20 mb you will notice that your internal storage will NOT decrease to that amount: thats the reason why the data folder is smaller than the sd ext.
Seems so that parts of the apps are stored on the phone mem although we ve got app2sd with an sd ext.
Once i tried to delete that data folder, but then all apps stopped working.
In twyeens rom you can move your apps to sd, there was a fix some months ago, so that all apps runs fine from it also e.g. angry birds.

[Q] Internel memory keeps decreasing

I have not installed any apps to my phones internel memory. I use titanium to move all apps except for keyboad, live wallpapers, widgets to the phone sdcard. 2 days ago I had 213mb of internel memory, now I am at 103mb of internel mrmory and I have no idea why. I tried deleting dalvik cache (dont think there is a way to move dalvik to sdcard with stock rom/kernel) and it didnt change much. Does anyone have any ideas where the memory leak is or what apps that even though are installed to the sdcard may be using up internel memory? Thank you
Saw the Dalvik2Cache.zip and that didnt do much, then saw the Dalvik_Hack under page 3 of the same thread and that seems to have made a lot more internel memory, I will keep an eye out on it and see if this is just a temporary fix or maybe its a permanent fix. It may just have been all the dalvik cache taking up space but over 100mb in 2-3 days seems like a lot of cache.

It will most probably be the dalvik cache, .dex files can be anything up to 1-2mb+ for each app. IMO dalvik2cache is a bad idea, on the latest FW the /cache partition has been reduced to 100mb, fill that up and you will be unable to download from the market. You should try link2sd, it will work on any rooted phone with stock kernel. (as long as you make the 2nd partition fat.) And it will move the app, library and .dex files to your 2nd partition and it will mount the 2nd patition on boot so keyboards/widgets are unaffected. I have 350+ apps installed on my phone and thanks to link2sd i still have 235mb free and phone is fast as hell
Thats cool. My old phone I had the sdcard partitioned with an EXT3, I would love to do that with this phone but dont think its supported yet. I may be wrong but I have not found anything like that for the Verizon R800x. Do you know if there is a way to remove the dalvik2cache hack if I wanted to revert it back to internel memory?

It will work on any android as long as your rooted. You need to make the 2nd partition fat though not ext2/3/4 as fat has native support so no custom kernel is needed. It calls to install-recovey.sh not init.d too so you can use stock kernel To remove dalvik2cache, unzip the zip you flashed look at the files in the .zip and delete the corresponding ones on your device
Thank you, I will do that, look through the .zip and delete the files. I already downloaded and installed the Link2sd. I am all about getting more memory out of the pathetic 400mb SE put in place, don't know why the hell they didnt just give us at least 2gb. But whatever still love the phone even with the limitation. Anyway what I ws going to say was I all for gaining memory ut not ifi ts going to make my phone crash some time down the road.

Internal Storage Problem

My Defy is once again throwing "Low on space, phone storage is getting low" error messages. When I view the list of all applications and their storage usage, the bottom of the screen displays 1.26GB used, 5.1MB free. However, if I scroll down the list and add up all of the storage being reported by the system for each app, the total is only about 191MB (I don't have a lot of apps). So, is there some type of internal storage memory leak somewhere?
I've been happily running a nightly CM7.2 build from April, and I haven't installed a new app in months. The last time this error happened, I eventually had to do a factory restore and reinstall everything to fix the internal storage limit. And after restoring all my apps and settings, the total internal storage used by the new build was less than 200MB.
Anyway, I'm throwing this out there for suggestions prior to rebuilding everything, again. I already tried wiping caches and updating to the lastest 7.2 nightly, but I'm still getting the error.
I ended up doing a factory reset and reinstallling apps from backup, but would still welcome suggestions for the next time this happens. I wasn't able to try SDMaid, because even after freeing up 130MB of internal storage, the installation would fail with an insufficient storage error . However, I did install SDMaid on the new build, so now I'm ready.

[Solved] Internal space missing. (or gone, disappeared)

So I had my S4 (i9500) on Omega v10. I wanted to install a game but it wouldn't install saying there wasn't enough space. After checking the storage I found something weird happening. The phones internal showed 500mb available. From which Applications took 5GB and Misc took 2GB.... so i deleted all files under 2GB. It still showed device has 500mb left so i wiped caches etc to see if the number updates. no go.
So I full wiped and stuff from recovery and flashed Omega v11 hoping it would fix it. But to my surprise the internal has 8.90GB available (which I understand is normal) and then 4.90GB free....
Well then wheres the other 4gb? I looked at all folders through root explorer to see anything unusual but nope. System folder is about 2gb and internal sd after wipte is 3.90gb... I am at a dead end. What do I do?
Figured it out, seems like clockworkmod recovery was the culprit. It was backing up to internal sd card too. Those who have a similar issue check the files at /mnt/shell/~

[Q] how to clear system data?

so i had about 120mb free internal storage on my galaxy y. after installing a few apps that i was just trying out my internal storage reduced to 20mb. no problem i'll just delete them... but after deleting the apps internal storage was only 33mb. doing some investigation i saw the data/ system data was taking up about 110mb (using diskusage app). trying to figure out the problem i deleted all apps linked to sd-ext. the internal storage remained around 35mb. i've tried a variety of apps like sdmaid, systemcleanup, root cleaner, clean master etc but none helped with my problem. even after using these said cleaner apps and deleting them after internal was reduced to 15mb. i manually went through every single folder in /data checking size of files but nothing suspicious. but system data was now 122mb (seen to be growing every reboot) and the system data folder is not accessible with any root browser apps.
i was trying to figure out the problem so i made a cwm backup when phone was low in storage (15mb free, avg), so if bootloop i had a backup of phone when internal storage was full so i could continue troubleshooting. bootloop was inevitable.
the strangest thing now is after restoring the same said backup where internal storage was full and rebooting i saw internal storage was now 140mb. i got back all of my internal space but how? is it the system data shown in diskusage is filled with "ghost" like files. i read somewhere that android keep a little bit of data of every app ever installed, even after deleting.
my question is, is there a apk or script to clean system data.
i dont want to have to backup and restore every few days. cause this is what worked for me to regain my internal storage.
i hope u all understand what i'm saying. thanks in advance.
