Exclamation mark on a text I'm trying to send???

In the middle of a text conversation and the last one I try to send has an exclamation.mark instead of the temporary clock as its sending. Anyone know what that is. BTW its the stock SMS app that I'm using.

Message sending failed
This happens to me occasionally and if the problem persists, it means your phone has decied to forget its SMSC number.
Go to the dialer and type *#*#4636#*#* then click Phone Information, scroll down refresh the SMSC number and click Update, this usually fixes it, sometimes it will need a restart too.
Restart of the phone worked. 1.6 fail.

It sounds a bit stupid, but keep trying what I discribed above, OR wait it out, both of these have worked for me in the past. It's like the phone has a mind of its own

When I press update next to SMSC: it says 'update error'. Any idea?
You could always manually type in the SMS center number if you know it

Are you clicking refresh before update?

Nexus 4 SMS Sending Issue

I've had my Nexus 4 for about 6 months now and everything's been working great but over the last few weeks my text messages have been hanging on sending. It doesn't send me a notification that says my text fail to send. Just the message I sent is stuck in sending. Wondering if anyone else has had this issue. Completely stock and using the stock messaging app.
Thanks in advance.

I'd check the APN's to make sure they're correct. If that fails, have your provider refresh your profile.
Happened with my n4 once... But it was not persistent ..however my message app never tried resending it , dont know why.. I deleted that message and tried sending another one it worked... I believe u are in a low signal zone when this happens.. not totally a software thing...

Hey download or reset the settings for the message center in your phone . When you root your phone default settings given by your provider will be lost .. So set proper values for the message center , port etc from the settings option in your stock messaging app. In India we get a service message with settings when we ask the provider for it also the settings are available in the net . Hope this helps

Contacts and dialer names

Hey guys, quick question!
My contacts are showing up in the contacts bit but when I get phonecalls and messages I just see numbers. Even though I have the contacts saved. Any ideas what it may be?
I'm on X note 5.1 and have lots of xposed settings installed, non of which modify the dialer or contact storage.

Do you have call display as part of your cell package? I believe you need that service activated in order for you to see incoming contact info.
If you do have that service, maybe call display is turned off in your options?

I think I know the problem ur having, so I'm gonna attempt to help. This happened to me and for the life of me couldn't figure out the solution. But then after a few minutes I got it. What u wanna do is open up ur contacts then hit the menu button and choose "contacts to display". Once that page pops up pick the one that says "device". Now back out to ur contacts again, then pick a contact and insert whatever may be missing. For me it was all the pictures. So I had to apply all my pictures over again. I think this is what is going on with ur contacts. Once ur done adding pictures go to ur messages or ask someone to call and u should now see all their info including pics. I hope I was able to help u. If I was all the way off base, sorry for post.

That's not standard in the USA? -EDIT Just seen original poster is in the UK - Caller ID is standard here if you have their number stored.

Was what I was gonna suggest also, and it's the most logical one I can think of regarding the subject.

Ahh, see, depending on what package you have here, it's an extra feature you need to pay for, so thought it might be something to consider. I have no idea how cell packages are structured outside my local carriers.
