So I got an update available notification but couldn't due lack of memory. A day or so later I got around to removing apps. Tried the update and got this.
"Your device had been modified. Software updates are not available."
I'm on stock 4.2.2 and never been near any root or unlock process with this phone.
When I cold boot I get the little android lying down with the red triangle and under it says "no command"
Any ideas?

Hi,
Look Here
You may need the Triangle Away app, depending on what customisation you have done.
Sent telepathically from my S4
But it's 100% stock and has never been modified other than different launchers from the Play store.

Do a data factory and if that doesn`t help reflash the rom with Odin. Look in downloadmode if everything is OFFICIAL and also in phone status.
Thanks for the help.Any reason why this might have happened? I just don't want to get into flashing ROMs all be it on official rom. This phone is virgin, never been touched with anything dirty

So I connected to kies and it showed update available. Needles to say kies crashed. Disconnected the phone tried the check updates again and it says now, update available but unable to download due no space available. In storage I've 833MB free on device and 25GB external. The update is 125MB?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 2
So at almost a gig free space it allowed the update. Keep calm and carry on.

Unrooting using Framaroot, or use OTA Rootkeeper. Either way works, but be sure to reboot after unrooting. Otherwise you will just get the same error message about the system being modified. Also, if there any any bloat apps frozen or uninstalled, you will have to undo that (in addition to unroot) for the system to come up as not being modified.
This is a rather stupid move on Samsung's part.

Kies will still work for the update though, even modified, at least for me. I did however set Kies up with it stock & then selected the "Auto download updates" feature in Tools / firmware upgrade settings, so if there is an update, whenever I plug the N8 into my laptop, it tells me an update is available & then gives me the option to install it now or wait.
Even stranger though is that even modified, I can select to reprovision & install factory firmware (Upgrade & Initialization) on the Note 8, but now on the Note 10.1 once it says "modified" status, you lose the ability to provision & reset with Kies & you get the "N8013 does not support initialization" error, even though both are now running the MD3 firmware. Go figure.
Framaroot from the play store works to temporary unroot for purposes of updates. Just install it abd choose the option to temporarily unroot, then reboot and check for updates. It will download and install the update. I recommend another reboot when its finished. Then load up framaroot and restore root. All in all with a fast internet connection the whole process may take 10 minutes.

I tried using Framaroot to unroot my rooted N5100. I then checked for updates and it told me that they are not available to modified devices. I then even tried uninstalling everything and doing a factory reset and im still not able to check for updates. Any idea how to get my device back to the way it was out the box so i can check for updates?

No. The new boot loader checks the system partition for changes. So if you even have the SU binary or any other modified or new files in the System folder or any subfolder, it will not work for updates.
On other devices, like the Note 10.1, you have to revert to an older boot.img to be able to keep the status as unchanged. Unfortunately, that doesn't exist for the Note 8 as far as I know.
I have modified my multiwindow to work with all apps. When I used rootkeeper I was still able to update so I giess it works with some mods but not all.

Are you talking about when we touch something to start texting and the keyboard pops-up after a small but very visible pause?
Damn, that annoys me so much. It happens with every keyboard. I'm on MJ7 and it still happens.
Yes! That's what I'm taking about!
You need to press twice sometime to get the keyboard to pop up!

Got the update today, as well. MJ7 with CSC MJ4. I spoofed the system status to "official" using Wanam, downloaded the update, clicked install but while rebooting a screen showed up that reads "installing system update" and then it showed "error". The phone booted normally but without the update.
Trying it through Kies now. Let's see what happens.
Why opening new thread when we have one for this and several others. And this update already came to BTU UK week-two ago and all of you guys will receive soon another one or two... No need to open new thread for something which is already discussed few times. Just read few pages here and you'll get all information.

You can't use OTA while being rooted. It doesn't matter if you change the status to official using wanam,

I have my phone rooted so I can use the hotspot feature and I have no problems with it. When the OTA update came I expected it to kill root and I was prepared for that also. The problem is when the phone reboots and begins installing the update, it ends with an error. It doesn't say what the error is. I'm just wondering if the error might be root related or phone related. Anyone else seeing this problem?
Root related. There is a thread to how to update MJA with MF9 boot loader I HIGHLY recommend that of you truly want to update.

I think your issue is the hotspot mod add to why the update is failing. But I agree with above, I'd go the update route that gets you the update minus the Knox bootloader

My phone is working real good now, good battery life, no dropped calls, etc. I wonder if updating is really worth the effort? I'll have to see what advantages 4.3 will give me. Thanks for the tip on the above thread.
Yes, any modded files in the system partition(hot-spot mod) will cause the OTA to fail. Also, you must be on the stock recovery.

Hi All,
My S4 is indicating custum device status, while I'm using official Samsung firmware, I've just updated it to 4.3 using Kies.
Does anyone have idea concerning this issue.
I saw in some threads that this is due to SD card, but I'm not using any sd card.
Thanks.

If you have root, just use Triangle Away to reset the flash counter and the device status. You can get it in the Play Store.
