I was on my way home when my battery die. When I got home, I put on the charger and turn my Nexus 4 back on. When I used it, I realized that the sound is not working for music, games, notification, etc. I can still hear the beeping sound when I press the volume-down button though.
I didn't press anything, and I have checked my volume setting - nothing seems wrong.
I'm running the newest version of Paranoid Android on my phone.
Since I am a total noob compared to most of you, any kind of help would be soooo useful!
Thank you so much
Last time this happened to a friend, a reboot fixed the issue. Try that —if that doesn't work, report back!

I forgot to mention, I already rebooted it 2 times and it still doesn't work
Update: it turns out that the notification sound is working. However, the media sound is not. I can't also listen to anyone who calls me unless I put on speaker.
Does anybody have the same problem?

Just what the title says. I'm getting no sound at all. I've messed with every volume control and am stumped.

Working now. Weird! I may have a lemon with the sound.
Of course the sound has to stop working when I'm showing a fanboy how awesome it is and how much better it is then the iPad.

I'm having the same issue.
I'm using it with no issues for a while then no sound... rebooting it doesn't help.
I can plug in a head set but no speaker at all.
Sometimes emails notifications come through but that's about it.
Been on the phone waiting for google support now. Been waiting for about 30 minutes now...
This SUCKS!

Had the same problem within five hours of having it. Sound went out playing Final fantasy III. Did a factory reset, nothing. Was on hold with google play for 45 min before I gave up. Sound started working again for a while, cut out again when playing FFIII again. Would say it is the game but the factory reset didn't fix it. Sound came back on during the night while I slept, has stayed on since. Waiting to see how it goes and to find out if it is a software issue before I try to RMA it. Did sent google an email though.
I did a hard reset (held the power button down for 10 seconds) and its been fine since.

Problem is back.
It makes a sound like a record scratching then no sound. If you tap the back of the tab it tries to make sounds but fails. Must be a hardware issue.

Hello everyone,
Curious if anyone is having the same issue as me? I have tried multiple roms, stock, with and without kernels.
I am having some touch issues. Either I have to press harder then normal at times or multiple times for my press to register. Its getting quite annoying. Not sure if this is a defect or if i can modify something within the system files to make the screen more sensitive or if there is even a way to re-calibrate my sensors/screen?
Thank you in advance,
DFL

Well, I've rebooted in recovery mode, wiped the cache and it's back to normal now... I know it's just a temp solution, but you might wanna give it a try

hmmm... wiping cache fixed? i bet systemcleanup active would help then. I will take your advice and try out that app systemcleanup on my tab. I use on my phone Nexus S just didnt think the N7 would need it due to its specs.
Thanks mate, ill give it a go.

Has anyone decided if this is a hardware or software problem? I've started having the same issue. Turning off the screen sometimes fixes it for me but not always. A reboot always fixes it.
Like just now... I was playing Zenonia 2 and in the middle of a battle I suddenly couldn't get the touchscreen to respond. I hit power to lock the device and immediately tried to turn it back on with power again... but I couldn't even get the unlock screen to work. I set it down for about 30 seconds and when I tried again it was fine. I pulled the game back to the top and it worked fine.
When this happens the "soft" buttons (back, home, etc) always seem to work just fine, so I'm inclined to say it's really a software problem.
Running stock + root.
My thought is that it has to be a hardware issue, or if everyone with the issues is rooted than it could be from the root. My device has fantastic response however I am not rooted.

I would think hardware as well, but the home and back buttons always work and they use the same touch surface...
I got the same thing here and rebooting appears to fix it. Sometimes it is so bad that I cannot move icons from one screen to another.
Did you guys try flashing stock 4.1.1 using fastboot or the toolkit? If that does fix it then its probably hardware problem.

I have the same issue and mine isn't rooted yet so I don't think it is an issue with that. A wipe of the device doesn't help but a reboot usually does. This is my second N7 as the first was a warranty replacement for the headphone jack issue. The first never had the issue so I think it is an issue that should be addressed. I am outside my 14 days so I might have to go through Asus now.
---------- Post added at 01:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:50 PM ----------
For what it is worth, I just called Google and they are going to send me a new one. The lady that assisted me stated that she has had a few complaints with this issue and that they just replace it. N7 #3 should be on the way in a couple days. For some reason she said that the device wasn't set up properly in my profile so it will add a couple days to the process because of the long weekend.
Not a big deal. I have lived with it for a while now. At least they appear to be taking care of it and I wasn't transferred to Asus. At least yet.
Quick question. Just got the 4.2.2 update and I noticed that I cannot adjust volume on the lock screen. Was that option removed?
It was. I liked it, wish they would have kept it.

The vol buttons still work when listening to music, just the graphic does not show up now.
I liked the original way of doing things for putting your phone to silent/vibrate really fast.
mine updated last night, and i too miss this function!

I want to ask if anybody has similar bugs to a non-rooted, locked, stock nexus 4 on 4.2.2 and would like to know on how to fix them. I have factory reset the phone and always seem to get the same results. I don't mind these little bugs, but they are making me want to root my phone.
1. While listening to Google music, I would try to unlock my phone and Google music screen widget would flicker and shake and make unlocking difficult I provided the picture on the attachment.
2. Another bug while still listening to Google music; it would dim more than normally it would in a shorter amount of time on lock screen.
3. Almost every time I open YouTube, the YouTube window animation flickers.
4. Battery drops 2-5% when the phone is rebooted.
5. Phone battery % drops after being fully charged and unplugged.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
4 and 5 are caused by a slightly wrong calibrated battery if you reset the calibration files (here is a tut somewhere) or just do only full cycles for a few weeks this shouldn't be a problem because it is just a displayed drop I think I'm rooted and don't listen much to Google music so no comment to 1 and 2.
3 isn't known to me.
Just a quick answer haha

Thank you, I'm going to look on how to properly calibrate the battery. These little bugs can get frustrating at times.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Don't know about 1 and 2.
3) The youtube app is a buggy piece of sh*t, so I wouldn't sweat it too much.
4) The battery percentage drop on rebooting has occured on every ROM I tried so far, so I don't really care. Well, maybe not 5%, but 1-2% is normal for me.
5) Happens to me occasionally, I don't really mind if it drops to 99% straight away, it's only correct. 100% would mean that your battery is perfectly fully charged. When you unplug it, some tiny (seriously) amount of power is being used due to the fact that your screen turns on, right?
Try cleaning the app data and cache for Play Music and Youtube (settings > apps) and see if it gives any result.
Thank you for helping. I forgot to mention another bug that is probably the worst. When receiving a phone call, I pick up the phone and the screen turns off. I try to turn the screen on and it doesn't respond. This bug has made me miss calls various times.

Mh well your on/off presses sometimes interfere with the proximity sensor on your phone this "issue" sometimes causes wild screen on/off during call because I click the button but the screen was already turning on because I no more held it next to my ear so it turns off again so I click again to turn on but hold the phone to my ear shortly to check whether the other person is still in call so proximity sensor reacts.... Repeat n-times. But that doesn't sound like your problem. Could you describe it more specific?
Gesendet von meinem Nexus 4 mit Tapatalk 4 Beta
When receiving a phone call, I pick it up the phone and the screen turns off and doesn't respond to the power button. I have to tilt the phone until it turns on and until I get a chance to answer the call. Proximity sensor/s does sound to be the cause of this. Any way to fix this?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Phew I don't think so... But changing habits... I'm working on a solution for my random clicking but I think the only way to solve that is to give the phone more time to react before pressing power button because it'll turn screen on/off as you would like it to but it needs a short period of time for that

Hopefully Android 4.3 fixes some of these bugs. The Nexus 4 Lg adapter was garbage, I dropped it once and after that it stopped working.

They said to clear cache/data & uninstall updates. Then update.
It did not work. I told them & they said they will Look into fixing this issue in a update later on.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Yeah, uninstalling and updating apps doesn't work. I've been doing that since the longest and no fix. Factory resetting or even flashing stock doesn't seem to fix these bugs either. Hopefully later on they find a solution. I didn't mind these bugs at first, but after a while, it got frustrating.

2. Another bug while still listening to Google music; it would dim more than normally it would in a shorter amount of time on lock screen.
Don't notice this because I always sleep the phone manually after choosing music.
3. Almost every time I open YouTube, the YouTube window animation flickers.
Never have experienced this.
4. Battery drops 2-5% when the phone is rebooted.
This can happen, yes. Stop rebooting so much.
5. Phone battery % drops after being fully charged and unplugged.
This happens about 95% of the time. Nothing to worry about.

Thanks for your reply. For the Google Music apk, I don't use any lock screen widget. When I listen to the music and try to unlock it, that's when it gets buggy. Either the widget shakes or the screen dims more than normally it would. I only reboot I once a day every morning in order to reduce lag and refresh the system.
I guess I don't know what you mean with the music app. What Rom are you on?
Sent from my Nexus 4
I'm on stock rom, unrooted and locked. I was on cyanognemod, unofficial miui, and decided to go back to stock. I have enjoyed stock until bugs started happening. When I listen to Google Play Music; there are times when I turn my phone on and try to unlock the screen, the Google Music widget shakes and makes it difficult to unlock.
Found another bug. Not annoying but its just there. When applying a stock wallpaper and you immediately scroll left or right, you get this result.

May be it's just the universe trolling you saying "one does not simply not root a nexus".
Yes most of the bugs you mentioned are present and they are fixed in most of the custom ROMs.
Hi,
I've had my S4 for about 3 days now and today all of a sudden the rear speaker has stopped working. No sound comes out of it at all, including notifications, screen lock sounds, touch sounds and any other sound. I have restarted multiple times but there is still no sound. If I plug in some headphones then I can hear the sound through them, so the problem seems to be related just to the main speaker.
Please help me
Is it brand new. Can you take it back?
Are you rooted? Flash another ROM?

I wouldn't say a lot, but I do use them for an hour or two every night before I go to bed. I used them briefly for about 10 minutes earlier today but the speaker randomly stopped working a few hours after that.
I think I even heard when the speaker malfunctioned because as I touched the screen the touch sound cut out about half way through, though I thought nothing of it. Only now do I realize that there hasn't been any sound out the speaker since then.
Oh because i had that problem lots of times but its because i had headphones in while i switched the phones off or if it went dead while they were plugged in. Then when i restart the phone without them plugged in the phone still thinks there connected when there not so how i fixed it is that i plugged them in and out really fast. Its worth a try but i doubt it will work in your case

Well nothing I tried worked, so I'm guessing it was a hardware malfunction (my guess is that the speaker blew somehow).
I went back to the store today and they gave me a new S4 with no hassle. Just a little disappointed that I spent all weekend setting it up and customising it and now I have to do it all again.
Heres hoping this one lasts more than 4 days lol.
