Hello, I'm loving my SGS4, but one thing I've noticed is that it won't let me take pictures while talking on the phone.
Does anybody know if it is possible to do so?
Thanks.

It's also a small tweak you just go into the camera settings and change them
I'm not sure but it's just a setting in the, I think it's called, features.xml file.
Here it is:
/system/csc/feature.xml

I know the FreeGS4 ROM addressed and fixed this issue. Natively, the phone won't let you though.

Thank you, Oscar!
I made the change, I haven't had a chance to test it yet, but as soon as I do, I will update this thread.
But it should work, I'm confident.
Also thank you everybody else who took the time to respond.
Done. Tested. N works. Glad I happened to see this n try it cause I was gonna ask same question.

All you had to do was find a ROM with that, DL the ROM and then extract the "SecCamera.apk" (or something like that) and replace the stock one!

I can't tell if you are joking, being sarcastic or serious. If you aren't serious please excuse my ignorance. If you are serious it takes maybe a minute to edit the features.xml and reboot. It would take much longer to do what you suggest and would be much more complicated.

Also as seen here you can enable the shutter shound menu by setting it to true. (i'm sure someone will ask soon enough).
After reboot go into settings and you can then turn off shutter sounds. Easy peasy.
Xml edit works for me.

Well a ROM DL takes like 10 min for me and the modified APK already has camera while on call, being able to take pics below 5% and shutter sound on/off. To each his own I guess lol.
First you have to be rooted
you can edit csc files
but an easier way is to install "note 2 hidden settings" from play store and do it that way....it works on the s4 as well

hello all
since i hated the noisy pattern in the 5M google camera. i have decided to replace it with a decent wooden pattern.
so if you hate that noisy pattern in the camera app just like me. then here's something better looking.
instructions:
using droidexplorer
1. first backup original CameraGoogle.apk from "system/app" . just a safety measure.
2. after backing it up. delete it.
3. copy the modified CameraGoogle.apk into "system/app".
that's all.
regards.

Much nicer! Thanks.
dude great mod , thanks
i made 2 variations of this nice idea.
just rename back in: CameraGoogle.apk before following the instructions mentioned above.
i didn't do a screenshot of the gaya-mod (well known customization-styleconcept for desktops featured on deviant-art [even from there is the orig.png file, not my own]). instead i attached the basic file, therefore you get an impression, how it looks like.
enjoy
by the way, I think, this thread belongs to general android themeing = )

Agreed.
This issue can't get enough attention IMO. We shouldn't have to buy a Nexus device or hack our devices down to the lowest level just to avoid CIQ. It needs to be exposed for all it is. I'm glad to see more coverage on this.

I guess its good video for people who have just got their SGS2 or are new to android ( although I feel the SGS2 is the fastest phone I have had without doing anything to it to the point that I haven't felt the need to root it)
The KL roms/modems are really awesome.
Note to OP.. If you do make videos please try to keep your videocamera/mobile fixed/steady somewhere so the viewer can see clearly what you are doing

It should have. If not then once have root and RW could add the apks. Would just have to change the language string call in APK to translate and maybe some other edits to port to US device.

To get EVERYTHING working properly.
After installing the app update Go to system/lib and change libgoogle_hotword_jni.so to libgoogle_hotword_jni.so.bak. Then place this file
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ujrrodffh1g7rbp/libgoogle_hotword_jni.so?dl=0
Into system/lib and change permissions to rw-r-r.
Reboot
Profit
Great job Casey worked great and what an awesome update really love it. The OK google is much quicker. If this is any indication of android L and I think it is the update is going to kick ass.

Followed instructions above and Search actually worked UNTIL I rebooted. Now attempting to open search and it does nothing. No crash report or anything it just will not open. Can anyone offer any ideas?
Edit: disabling hotword detection allows Google search to work again. Guess it's back to the previous version for now.
Edit2: was able to get it working after following this androidpolice article: http://goo.gl/FqydFB It needed two additional /system/lib files.
