same problem is here too.. the power button was working after i updated to 4.3 but later it doesnot work. how do I restart my phone?? any please!!

Try getting it repaired via warranty.
The power button does not use ribbon cables what so ever like most of the parts of the phone also using some golden square electronic pad so it should be cheap but if you don't want to risk anything then warranty is your option.

You got any idea how much lg charges to get it repaired? or is it done free of charge? Coz i am worried that they would say that the problem is because of wear and tear or something

If the device is under warranty then it would be free.
If you opened it up then there could be a risk that they may find out.

Install auto screen on and auto screen off.
Works very well for unlocking and locking.
To reboot you need root so you can create a toggle that reboots.

but all dis drains battery .. and moreover i dont want to root my device as yet

could this happen because something is wrong with the files in the keychars folder?

If it's get worse and you're still under warranty then you should bring it to LG, don't try to do it yourself you may mess up something and void the warranty. I did the same to my phone and they fixed it for free, the button is working perfectly fine now.

Reflashing Stock Images on Dead Phone

OK guys, woke up the other day to find the Nexus 4 with a solid (not flashing) red light and couldn't get it to boot or fastboot or anything, whether plugged into PC or not. Phoned google (they didn't ask about root or bootloader or anything) and they have sent a replacement. I will be sending my broken one back to them soon, but is there any chance I'll be able to relock it first? Does anyone have experience of this kind of situation before?

Don`t think they will be able to see or take the trouble to check if the phone`s unlocked. No, you cannot flash a image to a dead phone, if you could do that it wouldn`t be bricked

Well I hope you're right - would be frustrating to be punished for what is clearly a hardware issue!
And of course you can't flash a dead phone, I was wondering if there was some magical key combination that might reach fastboot that I haven't already tried or something like that :laugh:long shot I know...

Absolutely nothing, although I'd not heard that one before so thanks - with any luck it will just be checked for powering up and then wiped at Google once they can't get it on. I'm sure people must have sent phones to them in this condition before?
Usually by opening the phone and disconnecting the battery you can fix your red light issue, google it, it's pretty common.
yes but that also voids the warranty.

Follow iFixit guide or one similar. You won't void your warranty by taking off the back cover and unscrewing the screws that holding the battery connector.
Then remove and replace battery connector and undo all previous steps.

No, no response at all from it whatever I do - might leave it a couple of days to see if the battery fully discharges, seen that in a couple of places as potentially helping. Wouldn't be too keen on taking it apart, seems like tempting fate regarding the warranty to be honest.
No just RMA it

Screen is weird

Hi, my phone started showing my screen in the attached today.
Basically it has all these lines running through it and I have to have the phone on max brightness to see. I've sent my phone screenshot to other people and they see my screenshot just fine. So I know it has something to do with my AT&T galaxy s4 screen.
I had someone else take my phones screen and sent it to me. I've attached it below
I was wondering if you guys know what's wrong with it? Is it a hardware or software problem? Can I get w replacement for it?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
The screen is messed up. I'd get a warranty replacement. What firmware are you on? A replacement will probably be on mf3.
I'm on MDL right now.
Do you think Odin may fix the issue as well? I'm away from home so I do not have access to pc yet. If not then should I call straight to samsung or at&t?
The phone screen is messed up even during booting and recovery mod. But I can still use the phone in home screen and lock screen only with max brightness and having those lines on it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
If it was me I'd give odin a shot. That way you can confirm it's a hardware issue.
That is a hardware issue. A flex cable came loose and isn't sitting properly. You could take the device apart and check the flex connections. This used to happens to me all the time on my Nexus 7 until I hot glued that sucker down.

Great to hear that. At least it's a 'do it yourself' fixable issue.
If I open my galaxy s4, I will lose the warranty right? Should I contact Samsung first or go ahead and open my phone?

It would depend to me what firmware you're on. If you're already on mf3 I'd get the warranty. But if you're on mdl then it would be a tougher choice. But I like to have a custom recovery and the ability to put custom roms on. A warranty most likely will have mf3.

No warranty stickers on or in the device other than moisture detection stickers. Just don't lose or strip the heads and you will be fine if you ever need to RMA.

Simply opening it up won't necessarily void your warranty.
The connector for the display is on the upper right side by the volume rocker. (see attached image)
It's only a couple of screws and you'll need a spurger or guitar pick to open it up.
Simply press on the connector to make sure it's seated properly.

Alright, I am thinking of exchanging this device through samsung. How do I restore this device from using a custom rom to factory stock through odin/triangle away. I also want to restore it without using the factory boot recovery as I am unable to see/navigate through that.
But my approach is (would like some input)
- Reset Counter using Triangle Away on a custom rom (task's at&t galaxy s4 aokp rom)
- ODIN (removes root and go back to at&t s4 stock rom - MDL)
- Reset to factory through "System Settings -> Backup & Reset"
Is that correct? I need it in stock form as Samsung most likely to check everything through my device and be able to fix the lcd screen.
Wanted to inform people that have tried to help me out... I sent my device to samsung and they were able to repair my phone as there were no solutions besides replacing my LCD screen for free due to warranty. I finally received my device back after waiting for 2 weeks.
nfortunately, they updated the firmware to mf3 and there are no ways to revert back even with my old nandroid i backed up using twrp. As of now, no safe rooting method is available for mf3
There is a Safe root method. The only way it is not safe is if the user screws up by not reading.
Sounds like they fully replaced the device. If they did not fully replace it, contact them and tell them that they had no authorization to update the phone. They were ONLY to repair the phone. Tell them you want a replacement with MDL and give them some BS story that you have vital applications for work that is not compatible with MF3 or something like that.

Sounds legit. Consent should be a must to make any changes to a users device that doesn't involve 'repairing.' But hey... What's customer service anyway? Lol.

I don't think I'll return it as I am returning to school soon. The only thing that is holding me back from rooting is there are no methods to unroot/odin the s4 on mf3 firmware.
On the bright side my phone doesn't overheat as it used to be and lasting longer battery life. Not sure if it's mf3 firmware but it's doing fine as it is. Will wait patiently for a possibility for unroot/odin.
Keep this in mind.

Bad effects of replacing the power button?

Hello guys my power button seems unresponsive most of the times...I'm kindda worried about it since i dont have warranty also
I am using touch control and stuff to reduce the usage of it as much as possible :good:
My question is, will replacing it cause any problem?? Will it be noticeable that its replaced??
Thanx in advance :good:

It may not be a power button hardware problem. A few members, including me have experienced bad power button behavior ever since the 4.3 update. At times mine seems unresponsive, or acts as if I press it twice. Like if I push it once to lock my phone it'll quickly go off and back on as if I pressed it twice. Also when pushing it to wake the screen it doesn't seem to respond at times and have to push it again. It happens very randomly. I'd say about 2 out of 10 times or so. I even flashed back to 4.2.2 for a few days and I had no issues whatsoever.

Seems to be for some. It's odd that only a few members have reported the issue. I'm sure there are others who do really have a button hardware problem, but I've pretty much ruled that out for myself.

I have the EXACT same behaviour!!
I didnt notice if it was because of android 4.3 but I have read about others saying the same thing.
Im about to leave the house to go the service centre and I found this
Im taking it anyway. Lets see what they say.
But its not 2 out of 10 for me. More like 7 out of 10
Really doubt that is the OS it had to be the power button get it replaced from the service centre that should solve the problem.
Facing the same problem but the service centre in my area does not have the power button in stock had asked me to wait for a week so that they can arrange it.

If the button itself is defective and you are not under warranty you may be able to find a replacement on ebay. I have seen various phones being parted out there and the button should come with a replacement rear cover. If it is the actual switch on the motherboard you have a different problem though. Have you removed the rear case to test that switch? It can be done with a torx t5 screwdriver, a couple of guitar picks and a half hour of patience.

I can add that when my screen was broken, i still recieved messages & calls, but it was impossible to pick up... So the problem doesn't come from the impact...
Thx a lot 4 your help !

I also noticed that I recieved yesterday 10smses @ once, but didn had enough time to see any signal...
when taking apart devices you should take pictures of it so you can backtrack when re-assembling it.

Yes, but given that i recieved messages, I assume that it's only something not enough clenched...
Do you know what is the aim of the white cable next to the battery by the way ?
Problème solved, the coaxial cable was the problem
