OK...somebody's not telling the truth - Galaxy S II General

Recently, I had cause to replace my 'supplied with phone' stock battery.
The picture below shows the battery in question......

I'm sure you would agree....a fairly normal looking 1650mAh stock battery.....
Then I peeled the sticker off (don't know why....just did) and revealed some printing underneath....
If you look closely at the printing, you'll see it states 1350mAh......
Somebody is erm 'overstating' the battery's capacity methinks........

where did you buy it? eBay or..?

The printing looks fairly off. It may not be an original battery. What was your source of purchase?

The battery in the photos is the one that came supplied with the phone.....in a sealed box.....from the phone store.....direct from Samsung

It doesn't even look close the the official Samsung Galaxy S2 battery. Go and check with them. They may have tampered with your device somehow.

Seems legit to me

I can't see how it WOULDN'T be legit.....
The (Samsung applied) seal on the box was broken by me in the shop where I brought the phone.......
So I don't see how the contents could have been tampered with.......
All very strange......

Seems like a cover up to me See what I did there lol. Talk to Sammy and see if they will replace it. Did it always look that poor.? The bubbles in it I mean? Was the first pic taken before you it pulled off?

Lol...No....that picture was post removal too.....just put it back for the sake of the picture....

Who would undress their battery to check this??
Not me ...

The why's and who's are not important.....what is important is that 'somebody' released a 'substandard' battery for use with a Samsung phone.........

I have a stock S2 battery that has bloated on me a bit, and I have replaced. So I peeled the label off. The printing on it said:
Code:
ICP 514657 ZS

MADE IN JAPAN
K2
I have another battery in my phone right now that I bought from ebay, so I checked it too, but it doesn't say anything on it underneath the sticker.
I'd say your battery is a big-fat-phony.

Why - originals always costs more than non originals (he can sell original battery to someone later n make more money)
Who - probably shop owner..

OK....so that's a possibility for the why, but the who? I brought the phone from my network supplier's shop (3 mobile)
The only accessories they sell (as far as I can tell) are phone cases. So it's not like I went to a small independent retailer who wants to "maximize" his profits whatever way he can...........

Is this damage worth $130 for a exchange?

Dropped it coming out of the car, the bottom chipped and its bothering me now. I do plan to get a case and it would probably cover up the damage.

If it were me and the choice was $130 or living with it, I would live with it.
I've been there and done that and have lived with it.
Having said that, I'm treating my Note II like a newborn baby until my screen protector and case get here tomorrow.
Dude just live with it for now. Get a case and forget it. That isn't a $130 nick.

That might be covered up well with something like the sgp glas screen protector (once it's finally released)
Personally I wouldn't pay so much to repair such little damage.

Samsung offers Samsung Galaxy S II, S III, Note, Note 2 or Note 10.1 display exhange for only around 70 US on 1 year with Samsung Mobile Premium Service. Depends on country, price might be different and just give Samsung Quick Support Center a call. They will exhange will u waiting, or give new same phone or newer if it takes longer to repair/change.
Go to Samsung website, look up Samsung service places in LA and give them a call.
Dont know if Samsung have it in US yet, but in Europe they have this service and no more worries having the screen cracked on 1 year.
Get a case for it and forget about it. Save your cash for your Note 3.

I'd drop a line to samsung and see how much they'd charge - if it was too much, live with it - it'll get more
I know when u get ur hands on the new phone even a tiniest scratch bothers you. Its hard to live with it. But replacing a screen is jot justice with this new device. Sell it to somebody else who wants the device in less than the market price like around 80 $ less and get another one yourself. Win win for all. Even replacement wont give u the genuine fit and its a waste of a working screen.

32Gb. Love it but....

I have no light bleed. I have no screen lift. My speaker is awesome.
But....
I get a creaking when I press the center of the back of the tablet.
Should I return it?
I think I can live with it, but I don't know if it will get worse.
Has anyone had this issue get worse?
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda app-developers app
how often to you press on the back of the tablet? if it is often, i would probably complain.
if it isn't very much, like how I use my tablet, i wouldn't worry about it.
and if you plan on using a case, it probably wont matter at all once it is in there.
That's what I was thinking.
If it is in a case, who cares.
But I know it it's there....mocking me...
Asus has poor design and quality control. I know this. I should be able to live with creaking.
I am hypersensitive about any flaw after the nightmares I had with the TF201 and TF101.
As long as the problem won't get worse or have any other adverse effects, I think I should just live with it.
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda app-developers app
Not worth returning I'd say. Your replacement could have something worse, like screen lift, etc.
Throw it in a case and don't worry about it

i had a new mini van where the side door made a slight pop noise when it completely shut . I Thought it works fine no big deal. A few weeks later i parked on a heal facing down. I Opened the door to put bags in behind drivers seat. The jar caused what ever was causing the pop to come loose and the door nearly cut me in half.. Ok it moved toward me swiftly.. Took van to dealer . It was a defective latch. Maybe something was not assembled right .So to ask a question about my tablet makes a noise is logical to wonder about..
yes my mini van was 34 grand .. but the amount of money should not matter . you should get what you pay for. a working with no flaws device.. I see this over and over saying its only 200.00 what do you expect.. You expect if they cant make it right for 200.00 they should make it right and charge more.. NO OFFENCE ANYONE but we do not live in a 3rd world country and expect higher standards ..
Just my two cents... If your tablet bothers you with noises send it back by all means..

It's obvious that these hardware defects are mentioned right in the Nexus 7's product description as features. That means you should accept them, and continue using your device, because after all, it's clearly stated the device comes with such defects...
In all seriousness though, if your device has any imperfection, you have the choice to try again. However, since defects are random, you can end up with a better, worse, or no-change tablet. Some retailers are better at handling device returns than others however, but that's something that should be looked into prior to buying from that store.

The back is made of plastic, it flexes ever so slightly. By pressing the back he is distorting the original shape & the creak is due to the back moving against the clips that hold the back in place, that is all. It is not a defect, it is natural for one object flexing against one that has no give to cause a small amount of noise.
If I buy a leather chair & park my fat arse on it & the leather makes a noise against the seat base is it defective? No!

In case of battery dead or problem, what are our options?

I always used phones with replaceable batteries in the past and recently s3. But now I found new love in htc one ans pre ordered one. However, I am curious to what my options are when batteries go wrong or dead on htc phones. I notice a lot of you used htc phones in the past. Other than having insurance what did you do?

1. Get it replaced from HTC store.
2. Use a case like fuel charger for temporary period
Also like to know what's the battery replacement cost from HTC if I decided to use longer or for years, I know its too optimistic!
Doubt they could remove the battery. Perhaps they would replace the whole phone if it's still in warranty.
The phone is unibody so I don't know how they can take it apart without breaking the aluminum case.

Obviously it comes apart if you have the right tools. If the body were designed so that you couldn't get the battery out then you also wouldn't be able to get it in either lol. Much like the one X you'll need to remove the screen and the rest will be accessible.

I think insurance replacement would be your best bet. I bought the Evo View 32gb tab when they had those deals going on about a year or so ago and the battery died on it and now its just collecting dust unfortunately..
For people who purchasing htc one from overseas, do you know if bestbuy will sell you insurance coverage for HTC one that is purchased overseas?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I've had good luck with the durability of recent batteries, but a lot of it is how you use them. These days you aren't supposed to run the batteries completely dead on a regular basis, but many people, my girlfriend included are under the impression that is what you're supposed to do. She has a 3 year old Toshiba laptop and it's battery is shot, my 3 year old Lenovo is still holding about half of it's original capacity. She also has an Ipod that needs a new battery. I'm sure her Iphone 4s will end in the same fate if I can't change her ways, but it almost never makes it through the day on a charge and she doesn't like to plug it in until she gets home or it's completely dead (if before that).
The 2 oem batteries with my Nexus One are still at least 85% as good as new, my ~ 2 year old Desire Z still holds charge like new. My best friends 2 year old Desire has the original battery working almost as good as new and my ex had the same thing with her Desire. My phones all get 1-2 days of battery life in normal usage for me, except the HTC One S I had would last 2-3 days at least. My theory is that while more difficult to replace the battery once it is shot, with better capacity and less cycles used it should last longer than the others, meaning most of the One S will never need a battery replacement in their normal lifetime for most people. Hopefully the One X, One X+ and One will be the same.
That's my thoughts. Hope I'm right.
I think you already swap a device in time of battery dead

I would think if something happened where it malfunctioned, your carrier would replace it, or worse case scenario you would have to pay the deductible price if you have insurance.
I would think your carrier or HTC would take care of you 1st before Insurance kicked in.

OP, whatever you used to take that picture works great! I would suggest calling Samsung and seeing if they will do a repair for you at a reasonable cost. If not would definitely follow what others said about googling it.
Adam Outler has a tear down video of the GS4 in his "Let's get the bootloader unlocked" thread in the development section. It shows the camera module (about 23 minutes in to the video) as being one piece and very simple to replace. If you can find a reliable source to buy the module (maybe one of the links in the above post) it would be your best bet. Maybe you can contact one of the people that have bricked their phone's and see if they can sell it to you for the parts? If you send it to Samsung, they will do a good job, but you might get it back with MF3 (if you don't already have it) and it will cost a lot more than replacing it yourself.

I haven't watched the video yet, but I called Samsung about an unrelated issue about mine about a week ago and I did ask about the MF3. They said as of right now (unless the guy was yanking my chain) none of the phones are being shipped out with the MF3 and they would send me a refurbished phone. Not sure if that was because of warranty issues or what. (I'm one of the special people that updated to MF3 and though they could put a custom recovery on it). I can't remember how much they said it would cost though.

Thanks, I used my trusty old Canon DSLR that I have had since 2005.
Things I tried that did not work:
AT&T store where I bought the phone. Not very helpful, tried to sell me damage protection (too late).
Samsung web site, "Support" and "Repair Request". Automated system led me around in circles.
I have now ordered a replacement camera module and when I get it I will try to do it myself using the Ifixit guide.
Trust me the repair is very simple and painless! Just take your time and make sure you don't try to take short cuts. Take your time following the guide and all will be fine. The second time and so on.. It will be fun!

Nope, sorry. The tracking does not give the exact delivery date, but I am guessing it will be September 4.
OK, the part came and I installed it. Of course as I was putting back the third-to-last screw I fumbled and the phone flew off the desk and landed on the concrete floor! Fortunately it seems to have survived unscathed.

I have a case, but it was off for the repair.

OK, the part came and I installed it. Of course as I was putting back the third-to-last screw I fumbled and the phone flew off the desk and landed on the concrete floor! Fortunately it seems to have survived unscathed.

So I'm guessing it works?

Things I tried that did not work:
AT&T store where I bought the phone. Not very helpful, tried to sell me damage protection (too late).
Samsung web site, "Support" and "Repair Request". Automated system led me around in circles.
I have now ordered a replacement camera module and when I get it I will try to do it myself using the .

Just wondering if you used the tools shown in the "fixit guide" website when you replaced your camera?
I have the same broken camera lense!
Thanks!

[Problem] Front Facing Camera

Hey all, I've just noticed that my front facing camera has got half the lense covered by what looks like the shutter. ..... I haven't dropped the phone or anything either...
Any advice on what I can do? Thanks

ya mine acquired this issue between yesterday and today. and it's half way across the lens. I was on a video call yesterday. it's almost like it got warm and something shifted and is stock over top of it now...................... I'm hella impressed to say the least
I haven't dropped my phone either. it's in an element case recon pro. yesterday was the first time using my front facing camera. was in a hangouts video call for about 20 minutes. now this. wtf..\\
mine is one of the made in china variants, not made in korea. first time I've had one from china, all other 8 of my samsungs galaxy s or note phones have been from korea...
Hmm...... It sucks. As it's now getting worse too.

Had the same thing happen to me.
Didn't drop it or anything. Getting it replaced by warranty.
If you rooted you can always get third party insurance.

I bought mine from Expansys. I had to change roms just to get LTE on the LTE model. so I voided my warranty by default. They offered to swap the handset, but I think they don't realise the g900m they sell doesn't ahve lte enabled, even after the OTA update. so I get to live with it. It's slowly shifting. eventually it will be away from the image sensor
I just really hope it's nothing to do with the water resistance. I'm already considering this may last samsung phone after 9 different galaxy s/note phones... luckily I don't typically bring it in water with my so it's not that big of a deal, but if it does happen and it leaks there.. samsung will be dead to me.
Mine was literally in the middle yesterday. So maybe by tomorrow it will be clear again. It's definitely related to heat. Either that or it wasn't glued in the first place.

It started at the top like the other images I see. Yesterday I could see image on either side of the shifting piece, but it was literally dead centre.

I had the same problem when I had the note 3. In the end I took it apart then peeled off the rubber ring and placed it back around the front camera correctly. Was pretty easy. Not sure on S5 though. If you have warranty, use it.

ya, I've been debating about doing this tbh. I've changed glass before in other peoples' phones.. but I always had a new piece to replace the broken piece.. basically a spare.. I dont' have a spare if I mess up heh. ya I'll probably do this later. and maybe re-glue it lol...
I'm going to try this now heh.. will report back shortly. I took a look at a video online and it appears that the ring is accessible once the glass is removed...

so I just took that little o-ring out. wtf is it there for? lol, it was almost off the lens anyway. I only pried it open enough to get a needle in and take the ring out, I didn't take the whole thing off. I doubt it's as water resistant but who knows...
ADDITION: so it appears to narrow the field of view slightly. I don't take selfies, I may have a hangouts video call once a week (usually on my computer, but if I'm out I'd like to be able to do this..). I notice if my finger goes over the edge of the top of phone (but not over lens) it pics up my finger, where as it wouldn't have before.. big deal. I'd rather not have to take it apart again, so the ring is gone lol.
I hit it with the hair dryer once after pressing it down... going to do it again shortly, its' completely cooled. just hitting it again to be on the safe side. didn't cause any damage to phone so was rather easy just make sure to be patient. I had pry tools from old phones, but I wouldn't recommend taking the entire glass off with it...
Thanks for getting back to us and telling us how you got on.
