Surely turning this off would cause ADM to stop working.

In settings / location services try turning off wifi and mobile network location.
Also in settings / accounts go into your Google account and check what syncs you have on. Maybe you have app data, Picasa, contact syncs running in the background. I only leave on Gmail and calendar.

on my nexus 7 my gmail is only syncing when I click sync in the app and I can't log into google talk, anyone know what causes this/ how to work around it? I tried removing and re-adding the account, and droping all syncing and rebooting then re-adding. would prefer to avoid a hard reset if able as it took forever to install all the apps on it.
tried removing auto sync from data tab and restarting and re-enabling no dice... thinking I may be stuck with a reset... boo
Reset did nothing...

Yep, and I also tried toggeling the sync part of the power bar widget, and the auto sync piece under the data setting.
Odd. That sucks. Hope you fix it.

Does turning off syncing under your Google account stop syncing from occurring completely? Or will it still sync when I run the application itself etc. Would like to turn auto syncing off yet still be able to sync.

You'll still be able to sync. Just turn auto sync off and for example, open the Gmail app. There's a refresh button at the top if you want to sync.

You'll also have to keep in mind that most email accts added to the native email app will be able to sync when you choose to, but an Exchange server acct might not be happy.
Nothing works!!!

You have to remove them from your Google account directly not from the phone. Then clear data on your picasa and reboot

I ran into the same problem few days ago, and here is what you can do!
EASIEST WAY "CHEATING"
Go to your gallery! THEN "Settings" THEN "Content to display" then uncheck picasa, and magically it should disappear from the phone!
NOW TO DELETE THESE PICTURES FROM YOUR GOOGLE ACCOUNT:
If you have access to the computer, go to your google plus account, and then you'll find the pictures set as a backup!
If you're using a cellphone!
Download Google Plus or Picasa App, it will use your gmail to log-in! Go to settings, and disable the image backup! Also you'll have the option to remove them for good from your account!
you can go to
Settings
Accounts
Google
uncheck pictures
then clear data for
Gallery
Media Services
this way it stays on your picasa but not ur phone

This. It's how I deal with the problem after a full wipe.

So when you go into your contacts list, the first one listed is "Me". If I try to click on myself I get the following message (screenshot) every time. However if I click and hold, I can go in and edit my personal details. Just wondering if this is normal?

I get the exact same issue! Just got the phone today and went through setting it up and wanted to check my contact info, and got the same crash each time.
Can anyone shed a light on this?

Bumping! i am still facing the same issue. Please help!
do a factory reset and if it does not help clear defaults and cache the next time.

Hmmm ya factory reset may work. Don't want to go through setting everything up again just for this. Everything else is working for now so I'll wait till I get the 4.4 update

Make a backup of your contacts (or not, if they are stored on Google), find the Contacts app and clear cache and data. Reboot phone, try Contacts again.

It worked! thank you! cant see my Google+ profile in this though!
EDIT:
To provide an update, looks like the Google+ integration is doing something. As soon as my google+ profile got connected to my local profile, i am again getting the same error.
Same problem here :/
This problem happens for me a lot, soundly the YouTube app starts say there is a problem with the network and if I open the Google play app it says no connection and nothing changes if I reload. If I remove my account and add it again or a different account the same problem happens. I restored my phone several times because of this and I does solve it but after a week or two it happens again

I think it's a gapps issue, try using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012857, BANKS gapps are pretty good I never faced any issues but also use google search next time...its easier instead of waiting for someone to answer plus provide more details or search for ur exact error
