[Q] Hotspot with MAC Spoofing - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I've been looking around, and is there a way to spoof a mac address when making a hotspot? I've tried different apps on the Google Play store, and none actually set the mac address. I've also gone into terminal and did something like:
ip link set ____ address XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX, passing in wlan0, p2p0, and a few others. None worked with the hotspot mod. Any time the wifi or hotspot toggles between off and on, the MAC address are reset.
I've also tinkered around with XPrivacy, hoping to send a MAC address to existing tethering apps, but still no luck there.
Thanks in advance.

change wifi mac address?

Hello.
Is there a way to change the mac address of the wifi network interface of the titan?
I would like to be able to do that so I can use my titan's browser to authenticate to web portals, and then use my wifi voip phone (with the same mac address) to make calls.
Do you mean MAC address or IP address?
The MAC is a hardcoded address of the form xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx, using hex. MAC addresses cannot be changed as each interface has a unique number. The MAC address can be spoofed to match another interface, this is usually an available feature on routers to spoof to the ISP that you are not sharing a connection on your home network.
The IP address can be changed and is of the form xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx using only numbers. The WIFI interface on the titan will be set up for DHCP, ie it requests an address from the wireless source it is connected to. This can be changed to give the IP address required if DHCP is not availabe on the network selected.
I am talking about changing/spoofing the mac address if the network wifi card.
There are a bunch of utilities out there that are able to do so on the fly for windows XP, maybe someone has one for windows mobile?
Or a registry key location that does that?

Hi Drew,
I appreciate your reply, however, could you be a little more specific? reflash to rom meaning the Verizon Stock rom?

How to change the mac address on the xperia

Ok, so my situation is that I go to a college where the wifi is only accessible by those who have their mac address entered into the system. Trouble is that they only allow laptops to do this and not pdas. So i would like to know if anyone has a way of letting me spoof the mac address of my laptop to the phone. Thanks. I've searched everywhere and can't find a thing. I tried some registry changes, but apparently they dont work..

[SOLVED]School Wifi, Two IPs

I've been looking around the forums and google for a solution to this. From what I found, the solution that works for most people with the same problem as me ends up being chnaging the UA String to iPhone or Desktop, but that still doesnt seem to work for me.
Now my problem is that at my school, they set it up to where you have to log into a portal before you can access to the WiFi, but my phone never redirects to the portal. It used to on Windows mobile, but now running Android on NAND, it wont redirect. I've tried nearly every browser on the Android market, tried changing the UA String on all of them. And still nothing. I ended up going to the school's IT Dept, and they registered the Mac Address to my phone, but then told me that my phone was connecting to two different IPs. One being the school IP, the other an unknown IP.
I've looked in the WiFi settings and i cannot find this second IP they gave me. From the sound of it, thats my problem. Any idea on how to remove this second IP? Or if the IT dept. was wrong? If so, and other ideas on how I can connect to this portal?
PS: My phone connects to every other portal website i've gone to so far, except the schools.
hmm strange, normally your WIFI connection connects to only one network. You can find the IP address by calling *#4636#*#* then Wifi Information / Wi-fi Status. Now click Refresh and you'll see your connection info. You can even run a ping test

So looking around the forums again I ran into this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=965597
Not sure if I am reading that right, but the USB Port can have an IP? If thats possible, how can I disable it or change it?
You need update your ROM to one that support unique MAC address or search WIFI MAC to set the MAC address back to your real one. Old Android library on HD2 set the MAC address by using a file so all the phone has a same MAC address by default. You didn't have two IP address. There is someone else running a Android HD2 on the network. Two devices with the same MAC is the same device to the IT Dept. Only one of the device will be routed at any one time.

This sounds like it might work. I'm currently art school an unable to change roms. I'll do this when I get home and leave an update.

No need to change rom.
Use search function 'change MAC adress' or something like that.
I'm using a SD Android and needed to change it also, was just a change in startup.txt.
Maybe it is a little different in NAND? But it should be easier to search a little bit around as to re-flash.
(Most or maybe all Android builds have this problem)
If possible, use your WM MAC adress to avoid further problems.

I ended up changing my rom, and it fixed my problem. Used Hyperdroid GBX, also gave me a chance to install CWM.
But your fix might have worked as well.
His fix will only have worked for sd builds, not NAND. currently, many kernels for nand will give you a unique mac address, but there is no way to set it like there was on sd builds

Remote Web Interface IP address incorrect in torrent apps

I have sideloaded a few torrent apps that have the remote web interface support but when I enable it,it sets the ip address to 192.168.49.1 (it doesn't let you edit this, only the port), rather than 192.168.0.3.
If i do the same thing on my android phone,it supplies the correct ip address. Have nvidia blocked this function or am i doing something daft?
I am not rooted, would that change this odd behavior?
A second question is how do I tell my torrent app to download direct to a folder on my nas. The path to my nas doesn't appear on the list, in the section you choose download location.
Any help would be appreciated
192.168.49.1 is the ip address for the shield controller and similiar wifi enabled devices. I had this issue with servers ultimate pro.
I wish i could tell you how to fix, as previously i tried everything, but eventually i took my shield in for another one. Havent had that ip get in the way since. Why it was an issue on my previous one, i dont know.
My only suggestion to you, is to check if you can change the actual device the app tries to use as the source for the ip address.

When VPN down, block app - When VPN up, allow app

Hello...
I have a Mi Box S device. It has the lastest updates.
Basically - what I am trying to do is when my VPN is up, an app is allowed to run (so do nothing). When the VPN is down, block the app.
I do not have ROOT.
I have tried various firewalls on the device that do not need ROOT and blocks apps - but they work by creating a separate VPN connection for the device. When I switch on my VPN, the firewall stops working. When I switch my VPN off, the firewall needs to be manually started.
If I had ROOT, I would edit IPTABLES to block everything except the IP \ PORTS needed for my VPN to work, and that would solve the issue. No apps would have Internet access until my VPN was active.
Ideas welcome. I am not against rooting the device - however - for the newest versions of the Android TV boxes, it seems to cause many more issues and does not seem to be worth the risk.
THANK YOU!
I do NOT know the answer to your question and I don't have Android TV, so ignore this if it doesn't help...
On the PC there are various VPN killswitch batch files that simply remove the LAN gateway, which works PERFECTLY to do what you ask on a PC:
Start VPN and then start the VPN killswitch
If the VPN is on, the LAN and WAN are accessed
The instant the VPN drops, the WAN is dropped
But the LAN remains intact
Maybe something like that is available for Android?
Googling, we get a lot of hits for Android VPN-specific killswitches.
Each Android public VPN server seems to have their own killswitch.
For example, here's one for private vpn on Android.
But there should be a killswitch for Android WITHOUT having to use any given VPN public server.
This hit implies it's a part of the Android settings.
But unfortunately my Android 12 doesn't have those VPN killswitch settings.
Does yours?
Solved. Admittedly - this solution works for me but might not work for others.
I host my own VPN server 'in the cloud' and, as part of that server, it's own DNS server.
Manually set the IP and DNS on the Mi Box S. Set the DNS to an INTERNAL DNS address that is only available when the VPN is running.
The app in question needs DNS to function. When the VPN is down, no functioning DNS, app does not function.
When the VPN is up, DNS functions, the app functions.
Good enough for me...
