I seem to like the stock ROM the best but would love to be able to theme it a little... specifically like the soft key color, always on menu key, time color, battery icon... could I pull the systemui.apk from a ROM uninstall the stock rename it to .bak place the one pulled from the ROM where it goes install that one and be able to accomplish what I'm looking to do? What would be the best way to do so if not without buying an app that does what I seek...

I've been trying to read up on how to build a ROM but all the links I come across are outdated. .. none the less I'm going to figure it out I hope... if anyone could point me to a good "how to" on building ROMs with a win 7 machine I would be very greatful everything I find say I need a Mac or Linux machine... thank you kindly for your time...

Oh and I did do a nandroid backup before I deleted it thanks in advance

If you did a nand backup, then just restore it.
Thanks man I really appreciate it. But I've got another question non related about Roms can anybody recommend a good stock rom that still has hdmi and 4g I liked cm6 but it is clearly lacking these features

For a great stock based ROM, I recommend Ava's z1 or MikFroyo. If you don't want much Sense in your phone, go with VaelPak 3.0 for sure. It rocks and runs with less of HTC's bloat than any other ROM I have ran.
Also, in the future, if you want to delete apk's from the system for whatever reason, just rename them with a file explorer like Root Explorer. Just navigate to /system/app and locate the apk, like htclockscreen.apk and rename it to something like htclockscreen.apk.old. That will make it disappear until you decide you want it back, then you can just rename it back, and you're good to go. That will work with just about any app you don't want around any more. Plus it has the benefit of being easily reversible if there are problems associated with it's removal.
Thank man life saver!

Will anyone want to take on this task? I would really appreciate it and I'm pretty sure other people would be interested in this.
I've searched the forum and found a few flashable zips for this mod but none work for new sense 2.1, 3.0 roms. I've even searched google and still nothing. I also found a couple of threads here and on android forums on how to remove the clock and I would try it myself with apk manager but I do not own a computer.

I'm on unity right now. But its not my daily. My daily is panache. My tethering stopped working on panache so I'm waiting for drew to update. But I know alot of people use panache and unity. So if you or some one else that can, make the mod for both unity and panache sense versions would be great.

If I understand right, the easiest way would be to:
Decompile SystemUI.apk
Change layout.xml to reduce clock frame width to 0.
Recompile SystemUI.apk
If SystemUI doesn't hold dependencies on Sense framework, one file can be made for both ROMs. If it does - then it will have to be separate.
I'll try to do it some time today, and post the result if I get anywhere.
Miui how to ?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk
In MIUI there's a menu option, if I remember right.
I've modified SystemUI.apk as per my own suggestions above.
Now I need testers.
The file is attached. I'm uploading APK on purpose - to avoid happy flashers that'll flash anything without knowing how they'll revert from it.
You'll need to push it to /system/app/.
Howto:
Reboot to recovery
adb shell mount /system
adb push SystemUI.apk /system/app/
adb shell unmount /system
Reboot
In case it doesn't work - to restore do the same thing with SystemUI.apk from your ROM. If you don't have the ROM available - please back up SystemUI.apk before overwriting it.
If it works - I'll make it update.zip.

Thanx for the effort but I tested it and it did not work. The systemui you edited breaks the signal icons and the clock is still there. It puts the signal bars infront of the 4G. Also the 4g icon is tiny and has the errows on top.

another possible way is to use root explorer or some other file explorer that has rw access to the phone. copy the downloaded systemUI.apk from sdcard and move to /SYSTEM. (DON'T MOVE INTO /SYSTEM/APP YET OR YOU'LL GET FC'S.) change the systemUI.apk permissions to rw-r--r-- and then copy over to /system/app (tap yes when root explorer ask if you want to replace).

So.. in Royal Ginger (and CM7?) i have this option..
Royal Ginger Settings>Interface> Status Bar Tweaks> Show Clock
I have my status bar clock turned off. Also, under tablet tweaks, i've moved my status bar to the bottom.
I wouldn't try reinventing the wheel here.
Obviously, RoyalGinger / CM7 are different ROMs, and have this option made in code and compiled from source. Sense ROMs can't be compiled, since nobody but HTC has the source, thus it must be made differently.

I have not heard of such a thing in sense, perhaps check the desire hd section that' where a lot of activity is, especially on sense mods. I know miui has the option too, but i see you dont use that.
Does anyone know how to customize the text message pop-up so the only option that it lists is to "reply" (instead of also having "read" and "call")? I had the ability to do that on one of the roms I was on, but I can't remember which one. I'm on Liquid now and have been on PA and Slim lately and none of them have that option in the SMS settings, as far as I can tell.
Thanks in advance...

Cool, thanks man
If not AOKP then definitely CyanogenMod as it was developed for that. It's called QuickReply so you can check there if not AOKP (which is a clone of CM right?)

Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Either you extract it from the ZIP file and place it in the new one then flash or
adb pull /system/app/MMS.apk (from CM10.1 installed on your phone)
then
adb push /system/app/MMS.apk (to the phone you want it on)
Or a combination of both the above (ripping from the ZIP then pushing it with ADB). Not entirely sure it can work though as some stuff might be linked to the Framework.apk however.

I just flashed my N10 with Custom ROM CM10.1 but I realized I don't like it that much.
My N10 is rooted, and I do not know how to roll back to the stock rom because I forget to do a full backup. Please help, im running on 4.2.2
Thank you! I just want to roll back
Tim
Google search for factory image for Nexus 10. Or install a stock rooted 4.2.2 ROM from the development section, or try out other ROMs and see if you like them better.
I dont really understand though how you dont like CM10.1, it is the same as stock but with a couple more features and bugfixes. What could you possibly not like about it?
Just check out the sticky threads on the nexus 10 general forum. They have a thread with stock roms.
However my suggestion would be to try out more custom roms. They too are available on a sticky thread. Specially the vanilla rootbox one which is working great for me.

Try using carbon ROM and Trinity kernel I have that set up on my N10 and my N4 and both devices smoke man they are fast as hell....try rasbean too all of this is in the nexus 10 original development section ......if your looking for close to stock as possible try mmuzzy ROM its stock with performance enhancements ....don't fret man that's the best part flashing different ROMs and kernels to suit you best man :cyclops:
I suggest using AOKP Pub with the Trinity Kernel. Awesome combination, super smooth, good battery life and nice performance - plus a ton of options for customization
agreed with anazei

Well, the reason I do not like about the CM10.1 and most custom ROMs is that it doesnt support google play store and also it lacks the google pinyin(input method)which comes default on the nexus 10 and the google pinyin i download on the official site is way different than the default built-in one.

Well the reason Id want to flash back to my stock rom was because when I tried flashing gapps I cant get into rcovery mode i kept getting a dead android with exclaimation mark.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk HD
Then you have a corrupt download or something weird. Most ROM's need to flash a gapps package after the ROM gets flashed so you have the official Google apps like the play store. There are one or two ROMs with these apps built in but the "proper" way is to separate the apps into the different installs. Though if you use a ROM with an Aroma installer, I have always seen gapps get flashed as a part of that. Mr.Robinson's AOKP PUB is a good example of that.
Also in regards to pinyin you would have to flash to stock/rooted use something like es file explorer goto /system/apps copy the pinyin apk to your normal storage(virtual sdcard) then you can flash whatever you want and copy that apk back to /system/app set permissions to read write read read and maybe reboot. You should then have the one you want working.
