Hello,
I was wondering if someone could help me. I recently installed the Google Edition 4.2.2 Rom for my Sprint S4.
I noticed that on the lock screen there is no option to swipe up to Google Now. There is also no option on the homescreen to swipe up from the application button to Google Now. Is this not a stock feature for jellybean?
I remember I installed stock jellybean on my old s3 a while back, and on the lock screen I could set the swipe to - swipe left for camera, - swipe up for google now, - swipe right to unlock. Is this not a stock feature?
Any help would be greatly appreciated...thank guys!
It might not be implemented yet? The Google edition Rom is touch wiz based, it's not aosp, so that might be a reason why.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I believe the Google Edition 4.2.2 Rom for Sprint SPH-L720 is AOSP.

Im pretty sure GE is TW based. B-Dub GE is tw but dubbsy GE is AOSP based

Dubbsy isn't doing ge, he's trying to port pure aosp.

Not that it's any help to your question but I found that I constantly was accidently opening up Google Now on my Nexus 7 so much so that I installed an app to disable the function.
Really becomes annoying games.
B-Dub25's rom is a port of the stock rom from the Google Play Edition of this phone. Although the UI is pure AOSP, the rom itself is based on TW framework and uses the TW kernel.
Dubbsy's rom is ported from an existing Verizon rom which he has updated with Sprint radios. It's almost pure AOSP and has no underlying TW framework. It's not a "Google Edition" rom.
You can access Google Now in B-Dub25's rom by double clicking the home button. You can access Google Now in Dubbsy's rom by long pressing the home button. Neither of them feature the "swipe up for Google Now" option because neither of them use onscreen navigation buttons like Nexus devices do.
You can add "qemu.hw.mainkeys=0" to the end of the build.prop on either rom to enable onscreen buttons and the option to swipe up for Google Now.
EDIT: I don't know what I was thinking. The methods I described (double click home in B-Dub25's rom, long press home in Dubbsy's rom) are how you access the multitasking menu. Google Now is a long press of the home button in B-Dub25's rom, and I'm not sure about Dubbsy's rom. I should probably just stop.

Been using galaxy nexus before.
Now I am looking for nexus 4 ROMS that can take screenshot without using hardware button (vol down+power), for example long press navigation bar or shake or on-screen shortcuts.
Thanks a lot!

Any ROM that includes PIE controls can be used to take a screenshot without using hardware buttons, just enable the second row of buttons and screenshot is included by default. PIE is available on ParanoidAndroid, SlimBean, and many ROMs based on these ROMs (including Odyssey).

Would it be possible to install that on google stock ROM?
And would that work if I unroot the phone?

No... PIE controls are integrated into certain custom ROMs such as ParanoidAndroid and Slim Bean and are not available as an app. If you want to take screenshots on the stock ROM without pressing and holding volume down and power buttons for two seconds, you will need to install a separate screenshot app which may require root privileges to access the screen image.

yes, it's possible, but it wouldn't be as simple as installing something, you would have to take the source and build it yourself, big headache i'm sure. You'd be better off using one of the near stock roms in the dev section and just going with one that has pie incorporated already.

Actually I have learned of LMT, an XDA app, that can simulate PIE controls on any ROM including stock Android although it still requires root privileges to capture screen images. You can find detailed information and download links for LMT at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330150.
Hi all!
For a long time I had been searching for a ROM, that would be able to manage virtual buttons on my Nexus 4. Finally, I found what I need in Slim ROM. It is very good ROM, but now I want to use 4.4
So my question is: Is there any 4.4-based ROM, without any bugs, that can help me set my virtual buttons (their functions, and positioning)?
Thanks.
There are many roms that can do this, CyanogenMod, Paranoid Android, AOKP and SlimRoms. There isn't a stable KitKat build for any of them yet. Look in the "Nexus 4 Original Android Development" section for updates. You can install the nightly versions if you wish.
You can also do this with stock using Gravity Box module for Xposed Framework, which isn't working for KitKat yet.
All 4.4 KitKat roms have bugs including stock from Google: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2527705

Thank you for the complete answer :good:
I just want to post the exactly same question,
because I love the change virtual nav buttons and have 4 with long and short press action,
I tested many 4.4 but not found any rom in 4.4 who let me change the soft buttons..
Well, for now Xposed framework is up for Android 4.4 Kitkat and you can use GravityBox. But without Xposed I personaly use latest SlimKat Alpha 1.4. The bugs are getting sloved quickly, and modyfing the soft buttons is very easy. I would recommend SlimKat for everyone.
Hy again,
I tried roms what you recommend, but I have one question/ request because none of them have an option to enable a Menu button like on my screenshot
Can someone explain why ? He just let me enable the ugly 3dot menu button
Thanks a lot
P.s.: is it possible via xposed ?

As a lot of people were asking and because it was what I missed in Cyanogenmod here it finally is:
AOSP Keyboard taken from Kitkat 4.4.2 with a Number Row on top! It took me some hours to get all working. Insted of the the old number row there are new symbols, more are coming.
The keyboard works on Android 4.3 and 4.4 (both tested) and on all ROMs (AOSP, AOPK, CM, TW...)
Install instructions:
1. copy it to /system/app/
2. tap on it and install it or just reboot
3. go to settings and activate it
4. when using the keyboard the next time pull down the notification drawer and change the keyboard
5. Hit "thank you" button if I works and I helped!

You can use PC layout for tablets, here's how to enable it:
1. Open AOSP/Google Keyboard settings
2. Choose Advanced settings, then choose custom input styles.
3. Add a new style using language English (US) and layout PC.
4. Follow the instructions to enable the layout.
5. To switch to the new layout, hold the spacebar until a popup menu appears, and choose the new layout.
The screenshot is taken on my Tab 2 7.0, so it looks a bit cramped.
Thank you sooo much....

Thank you. The LGE keyboard works quite well.
Text seems obnoxiously large on this keyboard, running LiquidSmooth ROM (AOSP KitKat). Larger than it shows in your screenshots. Any idea what might cause that?

Anyone know a fix for this? I like having the numbers up top and will use that feature a lot, but the huge text looks really ugly. App works great otherwise.

I used to be able to get many more button options for the nav bar on JellyBean ROMs but I seem to be able to add only the menu or search button to the nav bar on KitKat ROMs. Is there any way to add other buttons or would I have to edit the SystemUI.apk manually?
I'm currently running crDroid simple.
If there are any KitKat ROMs which support adding custom buttons, such as the power button, or apps, I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction.

You could install xPosed frameworks and use Gravitybox to accomplish what you are looking for.
Pacrom has a lot of those options. Its fairly new for 4.4 so it may or may not be stable for you, but ive tried it, and it works for me.

Hi guys, i am an owner of a GS4 GT-i9505.
At the moment i use the ShoStock ROM 4.4.3 wich is TouchWiz based.
I would like a pure stock android ROM that supports the S-View feature that actually works on calls and the WatchON app.
Those are the only 2 features i most use from TouchWiz.
Any stock android roms that support those 2?
Thanks in advance.
The S-view cover should work on all Google Play based ROMs for the i9505, though, not sure how well. As for WatchOn it should be enough to install the APK to get it working.
EDIT: it seems that the S-view cover works just the same way on Google Edition ROMs as it does on TouchWiz.

Thus, any of these ROMs will do:

or

And WatchOn can thereafter be installed from here:

Well i am asking for the Sview cover because i had a google play edition and it didn't work. If you click the 2nd link you gave me, on the info it says that Sview cover is not supported.
Hm, I see. I assumed that it would be included in all Google Play Edition ROMs, but it does seem like the 2nd ROM is indeed missing this. That said, users of Danvdh's GPE ROM are reporting that S-View functionality should be "working", though there's no clear answer if it actually works with calls in the latest release.
