[Q] Take screenshot without using hardware button - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Been using galaxy nexus before.
Now I am looking for nexus 4 ROMS that can take screenshot without using hardware button (vol down+power), for example long press navigation bar or shake or on-screen shortcuts.
Thanks a lot!

Any ROM that includes PIE controls can be used to take a screenshot without using hardware buttons, just enable the second row of buttons and screenshot is included by default. PIE is available on ParanoidAndroid, SlimBean, and many ROMs based on these ROMs (including Odyssey).

Thanks
Would it be possible to install that on google stock ROM?
And would that work if I unroot the phone?

No... PIE controls are integrated into certain custom ROMs such as ParanoidAndroid and Slim Bean and are not available as an app. If you want to take screenshots on the stock ROM without pressing and holding volume down and power buttons for two seconds, you will need to install a separate screenshot app which may require root privileges to access the screen image.

yes, it's possible, but it wouldn't be as simple as installing something, you would have to take the source and build it yourself, big headache i'm sure. You'd be better off using one of the near stock roms in the dev section and just going with one that has pie incorporated already.

Actually I have learned of LMT, an XDA app, that can simulate PIE controls on any ROM including stock Android although it still requires root privileges to capture screen images. You can find detailed information and download links for LMT at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330150.

Add Reboot/Restart to Power Menu

Any way to add reboot/restart to the power menu? Not sure why this is not standard in JB.

Some of the custom ROMs have extended power features like reboot, etc...
I use "Glazed JellyBean" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1796668 which does have that feature.
IIRC "CM10 Kang" ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1782433 also has the extended power options feature.
I use paranoid android rom its fantastic has what you want plus tablet mode....If you don't want to use a custom rom just install a reboot app from the play store.
I'd like to have the reboot option available on the stock ROM.
Here's a version for the Gnex only:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1747709
He also lists a guide to do it yourself, though I know nothing about such things:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11a7ghZpdTcZbeDtneTnEHkHLn5_XQ9k2FDFFh-os-q0/edit
Anyone care to give it a shot? Or does this exist somewhere already?
I'm also very interested in this mod for my stock ROM...

You could get something called WidgetSoid and then add it to your notification bar.
Or download a Reboot App which has extra functionality.
I also agree it should be standard on the Stock JB

[Q] Menu option in RAZR M

Hi there. This is my first post, sorry if my english is not that good.
Is there a way to put the menu "button" like in the Eclipse Rom? Any modification or any patch?
Like that but without the search button.
Thanks.

On stock ROM - the answer is No (or if anyone will be able to patch stock SystemUI.apk to add legacy menu button). But you could flash CyanogenMod 10.1 or 10, or any other ROM based on CM. They all have NavBar settings.

Yep. You shouldn't need it anyways, as modern apps have an in-app menu, and it appears automatically for legacy apps

Thanks! I managed to put the menu button in the Configuration menu. The new DroidVPN app doesnt have a menu button anywhere perhaps. Thats why i wanted to put the menu button in the device. Thank you!

[Q] How to add custom buttons on Navigation bar?

I used to be able to get many more button options for the nav bar on JellyBean ROMs but I seem to be able to add only the menu or search button to the nav bar on KitKat ROMs. Is there any way to add other buttons or would I have to edit the SystemUI.apk manually?
I'm currently running crDroid simple.
If there are any KitKat ROMs which support adding custom buttons, such as the power button, or apps, I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction.

You could install xPosed frameworks and use Gravitybox to accomplish what you are looking for.
Pacrom has a lot of those options. Its fairly new for 4.4 so it may or may not be stable for you, but ive tried it, and it works for me.

How is defendant on what ROM you are running and depending on the ROM it will then depend on if you are running Dalvik or ART. If you are on a TW ROM and are not concerned with running ART you can use Xposed with the Gravity box module that has the option to customize the navigation bar. If you are using an AOKP or CM11 ROM you can also use Xposed with Gravity box module but the ROM itself may have an option in settings/personalization to customize the navigation bar. Hope this leads you in the right direction

Xposed with immersive mode. App settings module allows you to set full screen in chosen apps.
