I currently am running android 4.1.2 and everything is factory stock on my 32 GB N7. I want to use 4.2.1 but do not want the battery died ain and charging issues. I wondering if there are any good ROMs and/or kernels to use that would be similar to the stock 4.2.1 but without the battery drain and charging issues. Any suggestions would be great.

I'm currently using Paranoid Android b9 with m-kernel a25. Right now I can get two full days out of it if I forget to plug it in at night. There are still a few bugs, but the customizability makes it worth it to me.
I was using SmoothROM before, which ran great. If you're looking for something closer to stock, you might take a look at that one.

Can you use that kernel with the stock ROM

Smoothrom and Motley kernel is very solid (and smooth)

Rasbean with trinity is a good near stock experience with minor useful mods. As for not wanting to use stock 4.2.1 due to battery issues, I wouldn't worry about it. I ran complete stock unrooted 4.2.1 since I got my 32GB 7 (mid November) until yesterday when I finally rooted and flashed rasbean, and had excellent battery life.
As for charging, people been complaining about it being slow since before 4.2. Mine doesn't take any longer than my g'nex even with 3 times the battery.

I'm using paranoid android 2.99 and franco kernel. Love the tab ui
rasbean with trinity. close to stock, but better :victory:
I'm on CM10.1 nightly and it has been smooth so far. It feels almost the same as stock, with some great perks.
Recently flashed Franco kernel from faux and my battery is a lot worse. I'm not an expert on kernels and don't really understand the wake locks and so on was wondering if someone could tell me why my battery is so poor from the screenshots below. Thanks

Please install CPU Spy and GSAMbattery Monitor. Also, what apps do you have installed?
there doesn't seem to be an issue with battery drain
edit: you need to use your phone normally for a day and then take screenshots.
Are you on Nightly 134?

It's just less than 7 minutes of use in the image! So, this information means nothing.
nexus4 / stock / last Franco.kernel nightly
gt-p5110 / CM 10.1 / Dhollmen kernel
Hey i just wondering about different people's experiences with the Cm10.2 on their Nexus 7 wifi tablets. I had problems early on when 10.2 came out so kinda hesitant about flashing it till I get some refreshed feedback. Also is the new cm 10.2 nightly running a smooth as 10.1.3 (which is what I'm in and is smooth as butter)? And lastly are the 4.3 features worth the jump? All answered are much appreciated!

So i flashed my device and is now running 4.4 with ART enabled. Performance is definitely better but I want to get some extra juice out of it (considering that im 5h 6m at most with SCREEN ON TIME)
Share your experiences with pictures if you can please (with SOT)
Attached are battery stats from my previous Clean ROM with faux kernel just to give you an example

That's pretty weak battery life unless you were gaming most of the time

EDIT:
(referring to the pictures attached) Yeah. I was playing Asphalt, had wifi most of the time (even if there wasn't a hotspot), watched The Way Way Back via Mx player, Juice Cubes and was reflashing the ROM after having trouble with Xposed Framework patch.
PS. Sorry this was from my CLEAN ROM WITH FAUX KERNEL so what I'll post next is my latest Kitkat setup + stats
Not so pleased with these stats, but my Nexus 4 had record breaking stats! I have never had more than an hour of SOT, but today I got three! Running KitKat and ART.
Well, for my N7 it is a different story. Take a look.
That is the worst stats I've ever had. Let's give it a day, like I did on my N4.

Your kernel is at 69%. Either you switched to ART directly before this run or you have a rogue app that's not showing up in the stats. Reboot, recharge and try again.

Ok. That's probably the AOT compilation. Give it another boot without any new apps and you'll see more characteristic battery life.

I had the same issue on my Nexus 4 yesterday. But today was an whole other story.
My previous record was 1h 32m SOT on Android 4.3, while abroad.

On lowest brightness though. I got tops 2 days standby and 6h SOT with 4.3 so huge improvement with 4.4 and ART

No games. I don't do much gaming. Can play some rayman jungle run on my next charge.
Just one hour left til 3 days standby, already 8h screen on and 10% battery left. I'll reach 9h SOT without a doubt and on 4.3 I could only get that with one day standby. So standby time is the biggest improvement.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
Auto brightness, mostly streaming and downloaded video, browsing, etc. 6 hours screen time takes me down to 45%. I don't often run it past there, but if I did, I should be able to get close to 11 hours screen time.

Wow, i used to think my nexus 7 had a decent battery time. Maybe i should try running on art and see if there's any difference.
Hey, here are my results after an normal Sunday with some gaming, web brosing and just normal stuff you do with your Tablet

ART enabled, wifi and LTE on all time

Will be posting new stats after juice cubes (my favorite game), watching 1 movie in mx player, fifa 14 and browsing.
Of course with display time
So I finally got a 2013 version of Nexus 7. Night and day. Exponentially smoother and the crispness of the graphics blows 2012 away.... And I'm on stock!
I'm giving my 2012 Nexus 7 to my 6 year old for Christmas. I'm looking for the smoothest, most reliable ROM.... I don't care if it's 4.3 or even 4.2.2. I've been running 4.4.2, but I find it laggy and altogether not a great user experience.
My other question is, what sort of parental controls can I install on this thing? Is there an app I can install that limits what her can do?
Thanks.
