So with my phone, I absolutely have to tether all day.
does anyone know the inductive charge rate for the nexus 4 wireless orb??
would be awesome to have the charger charger faster than what the phone would use tethering.
Love the inductive charge idea as i'm currently plugging/unplugging all freaking day at my desk.
Someone in another thread mentioned that the orb is, unfortunately, slower than connecting directly via a wire. It's more just for ease of access.
Yes. Its for ease of access. Of course its going to be slower. Same as WiFi vs Ethernet. Wired is always going to be quicker but wireless makes life simpler
I can't remember where I read this or if I'm just making it up but the wireless charging should be at about 60% efficiency.
Meaning 1hr of wired charging would be equal to just over an hour&half of orb charging

yeah. i just want the battery to charge faster than what the phone uses.
i guess there is only one way to find out! lol
I've never used tethering so I don't know how fast it eats battery, but chances are the charger will charge faster than the battery drain..
Considering rule of thumb current large screen phones break even USB charging, I would assume wireless charging is at very least faster than USB or we would hear about wireless charging being slow a whole lot more.

The orb base has a usb mini b connector to supply it power, so the orb is receiving the same voltage the phone would. And induction is inefficient, so it will probably charge slower. Unless the orb is drawing more amperage than the phone would to make up the difference. I would expect it to be slower.
It would be more so how much current is passed through the magnetic fields. 5V is 5V. It just depends on how fast the 5V's gets pulled into the battery.
I imagine that, with the screen off, it should charge more than is drained. Even if it was an overall negative differential, it should slow the drain down enough to keep you going all day.
That said, this is about as bad of a worst-case scenario as you can get for long-term battery performance.

My Palm Pre and Touchstone charging was noticeably faster than charging off a computer USB port, but still slower than wall charging (1A). So I would think wireless charging will be fine while tethering, as long as the screen is off.
I remember reading somewhere that the charge rate of wireless charging is 1.5A. I'm pretty certain.

Hi, I noticed that my Nexus 4 charger pretty slow so I decided to check this out.
i've been doing a lot of reading here but couldn't figure out the problam.
I'm using the original charger (lg's 5v 1.2a) but charge speed is around 300-400ma (checked with battery monitor widget), with short peaks around the 600-700ma.
I tried the galaxy nexus charger (5v 1a) with both the samsung cable and the lg.. got around 850ma which is slighty lower than expected.
decided to give it a try with a friend's nexus 5 charger (1.2a) but also got only ~850ma at the most.
So I think my charger doesn't work like it should, but can't seem to figure out why other chargers won't charge full speed.
(I'm running rooted kitkat 4.4 if that's relevant to the matter).
Does anyone has any idea what could be the problem?
Thank you!!
I've never seen a full 1200mAh charge no matter what cable/charger combo I use. Closest I can recall seeing is high 900's using battery monitor widget pro.
It's possible that the charge rating I am seeing is taking into account the drain as well from using the phone. So it could be around +1200mAh but with screen on and the apps that I have running + other services (wifi, bluetooth, etc), that it is only doing around +800mAh in terms of charging the battery.

My Gnex charges at a little over 1000ma (with the samsung 1a charger - same charger that gives my nexus 4 ~850ma)
Nexus 5 got 1070 max with its' 1.2a charger.... both messured with battery monitor widget.
Could the N4 charge be limitted to 900ma?
Any chance my connetcor or battery need fixing?
anybody has any idea what could be the problam?
Hi All
I am looking to install a Nexus 7 into the dash of my new car. I'm just wondering since the Nexus will only charge when I'm driving the car which means I'll also be using it (playing music, navigation, bluetooth etc).
I'm just wondering if there is a charger type thing that I can buy to increase the voltage or something so that it gets more juice while the car is running?
I haven't hashed out the details yet (I'm getting a professional shop to do the work), but I think it will be wired up to power directly so I dont see any wires?
Anyway and ideas?
Thanks in advance

Haven't never heard about it. But since tech has become crazier everyday maybe there's such a thing.

There isn't a way to 'increase the charge', the battery has a fixed capacity of 15Wh. The only thing you can influence is charge time by increasing current (up to a certain level only, as the charge controller will limit the charge current).
It will probably be connected to ignition switched power, as connected it to constant power could pose a battery drain risk.
If you only use it when the car has at least its ignition on, then the Nexus 7 should last, especially if you apply some tweaks to maximise standby battery life.

Hmm, I did a random test playing music etc with the screen on, and it drained the battery even when plugged in?? So I might need to do some tweaks when its on also.
What are you using to charge the N7? Most car chargers have a low amp output, you need something that will kick out a couple of amps.

The little test I did was with the wall charger that came with it.
For the car I current have a 5v/1a charger I believe?

Interesting. The stock wall charger is 7W. That should be more than enough to at least break even with the device running, except maybe running demanding games. If it was actually drawing more than the charger can supply then the tablet was consuming more than 7W, which would mean that the battery would be flat in less than 2 hours off charger, which is excessive.
When it's installed in the car, I'd expect they would install a regulated 5v step down behind the dash. I would personally want this to be at least 2A at 5V (10W).

Um I was running it at full brightness, with wifi on, bluetooth on, and music playing.
Is it just me or do the batteries seem to run down pretty fast with Z2/Z1/SP when watching movies and browsing web via 3G internet. Also, gaming drains the battery faster than it charges. Using default charger.
Z2 has one of the best battery times between all android devices, so i think your expectations are a bit too high.

Yeah but even when plugged in, the battery level drops if I'm browsing using mobile Internet to combat the drain, I had to use a third party high wattage charger.
You are not the only one. If you are using it, battery drain very fast. Although it can manage one day. (for me)
I can easily get 2 days usage out of my z2 without charging.

Drains faster than charging? I didn't test how long it lasts, but I expected it to charge when plugged in.

Usually I charge it over night. But I tried it with a car charger (3.1 Ah) (using navigation) and it drained faster then charging. It was not original sony car charger (which is 1,5 Ah). It is interesting...

Can you test with original? I did with mine and it drains faster. The only way is to use a higher wattage (about 2..well only one charger works-- BRAND NEW 3 PIN PLUG USB MAINS ADAPTER CHARGER for HTC, BLACKBERRY, SAMSUNG, MP3,TOMTOM, IPOD AND IPHONE - WHITE #11i UNIVERSAL 5V 1A CE ) charger.

Unfortunatelly I do not have original car charger. But I think I can test with original wall charger and play some games or run navigation. I tried 2A original Samsung tablet charger. It charged, but I don't test if it is really charging with 2 A or only 1 A. I will test it.

Yes, it is going up. I will try later the other (3.1 Ah) car charger, maybe there will be some improvement as well.

Try playing some YouTube videos while on 3G?
I use my HP TouchPad charger normally when charging (2A). It tends to give slightly noticeable faster change, although not as fast as using that charger on my spare phone (Xperia T) as expected.
Is there a special kind of wireless charger I am going to need to buy for this phone? It's my first of this kind.
Should work with QI or PMA wireless chargers. Qi is the more popular standard and has more options available.
Fast Wireless Charging?
Does any one know if it supports Fast wireless charging?
I Have been trying to find the wireless charging specs on the phone no luck so far.

Does not support fast wireless charging. Ive tried 3 different fast chargers and the phone will only do standard wireless charging speeds. LG also stated they did not incorporate fast wireless charging and I believe it was due to the way the phone is being cooled.

No Problem. The sammy charger still works just not fast. I have one next to my bed so at night I drop it on and by morning its full. Thats about the only purpose I can see making sense though.
Just got a Samsung wireless charger
I got the Samsung circular stand charger that comes with both cable and plug and I'm impressed by how fast it charges. I am however a little concerned that the charging light doesn't change from blue to green when the phone reaches 100%. It stays lit and even the phone still indicates that it is still charging.
Should I be worried about this or is that normal?

As far as I know, quality chargers would slow down the charging at the 99% and keep topping the phone up, that way it keeps the battery safe from overcharging and it maintains the battery. I don't have exact science in detail in my head nor have any article saved to provide the link, but I think that this must be it. Look up your particular's charger's specifications online.
