[Q] crDroid and Kernel - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I put crDroid (Build 4) in my nexus 4 and change kernel to ak113, ak122, faux019b04m and Enhanced Stock Kernel but other reboot I lost signal...try to reboot..and got boot loop... How to resolve this problem?

You probably flashed a JWR kernel in a JSS rom or viceversa. Try checking with which kernel is crDroid compatible (probably JSS)

Have you flashed 4.3 Bootloader&Radio?
Sent from my Nexus 4 with Tapatalk 4

yes: Radio .84 and Bootloader z20i

I do not know well your policy on the UP, but since I have less than 10 posts I can't do anything to ask here, and for me it's important.

4.3 Screen Tearing

Updated to 4.3 and I've noticed there is some screen tearing during transitions and animations.

How do i fix this?
Wow, that looks horrible.
The only cause I can think of, is that you/an app somehow disabled vsync (part of project butter).
Are you on stock?

Nope I was trying out the "custom" 4.3 roms.
Go to developer section and force android to use msaa4x also disable HW overposition (don't know the proper translation in english, its the option bellow msaaa4x)
You have to set it up every reboot, it only happens with aosp jss15j, no problem with the earlier 4.3 version
Happens when there is kernel mismatch between the 2 different 4.3 builds JSS15J and JWR66V.
For now just flash stock images instead of using custom ROM

Which build of 4.3 are you using? the J or V version?
you have to use a kernel corresponding to the correction.
Custom ROMs will most likely follow the J version as it is newer. The V version uses a kernel with over 50 GPU commits.
Currently using Kalo's 4.3 rom, there seems to be no issues on this rom.
But problems start to arise when i flash franco r170

Because franco r170 is for the V build. He is on vacation, I think it ended last night (or today) you have to wait for a JSS15J build or stick with stock.
Faux has a JSS15J build (019) and semaphore has one as well.
Solved permanently using semaphore j variant

What is the most stable combination you had/have?

Hey guys. Me and my friend here (both have the N4) ave rooted and all. We wanted to install a Custom ROM with a kernel. So by far what is the most stable kernel-ROM combination you got? ROM is a 4.3 recommended and PA is also welcome (but i think it still has bugs but i can live with it). Since they're too much ROMs to try.. I was hoping I woulf do the flashing etc after my exams are over. Peace!

if you want a stable rom you should try cataclysm rom. it looks like a stock rom and there are a lot of features in it(and those feature is unique,in the sense of you can hardly find all of those feature in other roms), Simple, but quite satisfying.
But if you like to customize your phone a lot, this won't be a good choice, you should try Paranoid Android.Hit the thanks!

Thanks for the swift reply bro really appreciate it... If u could tell me another thing, please... I guess I would go with Paranoid Android's latest build. Which kernel do u recommend? Im sick of these dull/washed out colors of this screen aswell... Know any good performance kernel with that color adjuster? I know PA comes with Franco but still it would be nice if you would suggest me one
Sent from my Nexus 4
I think Franco is good. Using another kernel might make the rom unstable. And a wrong kernel could brick your phone

Dude this is a nexus. Any kernel works with any rom as long as you dont use a 4.2 kernel for 4.3 rom for example.

For me ,the best combination was on CarbonRom 1.8 Stable with Franco Kernel M3. Now I have stock 4.2.2 JDQ39E rom with Franco kernel M3 also ,and I think that performance with stock is even better.
Thanks all. I think i'm gonna take a plunge into PA really appreciate the feedback guys but still if someone can tell me what makes u have the new colors?

You can try PA by stock itself, or like me, although I like QS and Navbar with Option button, but then I still like Stock JWR with Franco's 174.
I'm using this combination to go to my 4 days trip.

For me:
Android 4.2.2 stock rom + franco kernelMilestone 3! Stable, fast and good battery life!

Hold your horses, I thought PA works on JSS? The kernel is not compatible. The only JWR is the stock, Cataclysm and those stated in AD section but there isn't much too.

Doesnt matter as long as you dont install a jwr kernel. You can just flash a jss build over a jwr build if you want. Only if you combinate a jwr rom with a jss kernel or vice versa you will have some screen flickering.

Are you sure? Hmmm. I got experiments to conduct when I'm back.
Personally I still prefer Stock and Franco .

It's very unlikely that the ROM mentioned above is actually very stable, the first build for the nexus 4 just came out last week.
A better answer is to use CyanogenMod 10.1.2 Stable from here
Francos kernel is general pretty stable but the stock CM kernel will probably be most stable.

Okay so I think I should remain stock just for a while right? Cuz i see many roms still being unstable and all. We have XPosed framework so i might be able to do most of the stuff PA can do.. Or just go with Cataclysm rom thanks to all for ur wonderful responses i really appreciate that

[Q] %95 of kernels break my camera.

It seems on pretty much any rom with a custom kernel breaks my camera. When I focus it goes all screwy and crashes. Changing the GPU govenor dosent help. Any ideas how to stop this? Even on JWR with a JWR kernel it happens. Im stuck using stock 4.2.2 with stock kernel because it kills my camera.

wait wait! are you using JWR or JSS on a 4.2.2 rom?
update to 4.3 and when you get it now flash a kernel JWR if you are in stock rom if not and you are using Carbon rom, Rasbeanjelly,Cyanogenmod use JSS (JLS now) if you are on Paranoid , PSX , Purity flash JWR kernel then.
this should be fix your problem on camera!

Lol. I know. I was just saying even if I use a kernel written for specifically JWR on JWR it still bug's. Basically any kernel with any rom other than stock breaks my camera. Im aware about the different kernel and rom types.

[Q] Kernel confusion for Carbon 4.3.1

I am currently using carbon rom on my nexus 4 which is based on 4.3.1 jls36i.
is it safe to flash 4.3 version of the hells core or 11.0 version of matr1x ?? (I might sound a little noob, but please help me out!) Thank you

Can't speak for Matrix, but I am using the JWR version of Hells Core with no issues on Carbon ROM.
While I can say it's safe, I can't say whether it will work or not.

[Q] CM11 Kernel situation

Are they still going the CAF route? Or is that ending since it mainly had to do with freezes (if I recall) in 4.3?
It's going to affect my decision to go back to 10.1. I really want to have touch2wake on my kernel and these fixes to make faux and franco kernels function are starting to cause issues on 10.2.
AFAIK, these developers will not be supporting CAF =/

freezes on 4.3 was due to bug in aosp jss code, witch have been fixed in 4.3.1. so update to lastest cm.
and in 4.4 they will continue.
Yeah, I'm running the stable release of 10.2 with ziddley's franco kernel and it's causing issues here and there now. I was hoping they were going to revert back to AOSP. I guess I'll revert back to 10.1 to maintain my desired functionality for now.

Yeah, unless there's some way to get touch2wake working on 10.2; I heard you have gamma settings now with the caf kernel included so I figure I can maintain my color scheme.

try with other kernels.
On CM11 and Cm10.2 try these: 1) Modified franco and faux to work on Cm : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2487246
2) AK has CM exclusive kernel : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2473454

You can always follow a tutorial to build your own cm from source code and enable module support. In that way you won't be using custom kernels, everything will be cm 100%.
I am using touchcontrol in that way, and I'm quite happy with the results.
