Price Hike on Note 5100 - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) General

For those of you waiting to purchase the Note 8,0- 5100. Now my be the time. I noticed on Amazon, com the price has stopped falling and is going back up.

I bought mine from a Singapore ebayer for $469. It had a firmware from Kenya (Region code: AFR). Just flashed 4.2.2. I have to say I love it. Finally a phone that I can be productive with and not wish I was on the computer. The price of the item I bought did go up a few dollars, but for me it was a diamond in the rough.

This is probably due to the fact that there have been quite a few problems with the new Nexus 7 (2013) and people are actually turning to the Note 8.0 to hold them over until those issues are worked out lol.

Only the first option worked for me. Going through Kies.
Then I found that it said AFR.
So i did this: http://samsung-updates.com/region/?region=AFR
Hovered over the AFR it said Kenya. Also can google search.

Buying Samsung Galaxy S i9000 in Thailand

Hi,
Anyone has recommendation of places I can buy this device in Thailand?
(sidenote: I can linger a little bit more and buy it in UK - is it preferable?)
thanks!
The phone had been out awhile in Thailand and are widely avaliable in most mobile phone stores.
Safe bet is to try buying at MBK (Ma Boon Krong) center, considered a mobile phone shopping center in Thailand and there are hundreds of shops you can choose from, definitely can get one there so you wouldn't have wasted a trip.
Prices should be around 22k baht. If you pay a lot more than that then they are trying to rip you off.

I bought a Galaxy S in Thailand but it is a fake. Its running some crappy software and says mediatek when it boots and. It says GI-I9000 below the battery and has dual sim cards. Does anyone know if I can put Android on it or is it just garbage?
its fake for me
I dont know what you mean GunnyHighway82?
The box says android on the back and the screen size is 3 inches long.
Well if you do buy one I'd be interested to know what firmware it comes with.
My wife's Thai and I'm due an upgrade so if there's a Thai firmware out there I could get some brownie points

Samsung Omnia 7 from USA to India?

Hey people,
An uncle is coming down from US to India (my current country) and I plan to buy the Omnia 7.
Should I ask him to buy one for me...but again, will I have to unlock it???
Does it come carrier specific like the iPhone?
Do I have to "Unlock" it?
Or should I just ask him to get the phone and pop in my SIM card from India?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I'm pretty sure the Omnia 7 isn't sold in the US. They have the Focus instead.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Yes, it's not sold in the US or Canada. But he can order one from ExpanSys (who gets them from Europe).
I picked a few up from Canada before I headed to Saudi Arabia. Work like a charm. Just gotta remember there's tax, warranty, customs, shipping. Not much profit made for reselling them Manuals also came in french, but that's not a big deal if you know how to use these things.

They deliver anywhere as I understand it, at least to all of the EU.
The phone comes unbranded and unlocked. And being an LG there's really no need
to jailbreak it, just change a registry entry and you are set.

It's cheaper now!!
It's down to GBP184.99 now at Expansys.

Expansys usually do a 12-hour deal on a monday called 'Monday Madness'. I got an email about this particular one.
Definitely 'ends' at midnight UK time.
has anyone got one of these expansys "handset only"
are they brand new and fully boxed/sealed with everything incl. or just repaired units (if they had lots returned due to faulty bluetooth ) ?
I ordered one today its brand new and at £185 it's too good not to buy.

Its brand new, sealed and unbranded.
Got one yesterday as the stock levels started to fall from 100+ to around 50. Considered £214 to be good value, but £184 delivered was a bonus. If I don't like it, I'm sure I won't lose much, and might even make something. Some other online stores still have it at £369.
Could the price drop be linked to today's Mango announcement? Probably, but still a decent smart phone with the anticipated bump in feature spec around the corner is a good time to buy. Let's hope it's not like the Viewty all over again.
Got mine today, came very quickly but that was about as good as it gets.
Phone does not want to boot up. It either hangs on the LG boot screen or refuses to power up at all.
When i plug it into a pc it recognises the lg modem but the driver fails to install!
Try to contact Expansys but so far no replies to emails and with the phone number provided no-one answers!
Anybody else had this problem?
Sealed and new. It's a South Korean model shipped with a replacement (uk) charger.

Galaxy Note in stock at Clove.co.uk!

Clove have just Tweeted that they have received stock of official UK Galaxy Notes.
Nearly £600 though :/
http://www.clove.co.uk/samsung-galaxy-note
I think I'll wait till people start selling unwanted network upgrades on Fleabay!
You can slice £100 off that figure by buying from amazon.de. Should come to under £500 (£493 at the last count) including VAT and delivery to the UK. Price has been dropping a little, day by day, this week.
Handtec have it for £540, but I have a feeling it's the EU model that you could get from amazon.de for less money.
Clove should rename to expensive.co.uk or greedys.co.uk

Correct... The first batch are EU stock and I can tell you Samsung UK will not be very happy Handtek have been selling the Note before the official UK date.
Not only that, buyers need to check the warranty on this first batch from Handtek very closely.

When you know a thing or two about Handtek and then compare it to Clove you then realize why there is a price difference.
CLove could sell phones from overseas (grey-imports) but that then opens up all manner of problems.
Clove received the UK version of the Note yesterday and began dispatching it today. They are including a flip case with the Note.

Yes, this is excellent news.
I did quite a bit of searching around for a protective cover for the Note and couldn't find a thing.
Nice to see the one coming from Clove has a flip cover for both the back and screen.
I've just check the delivery status of my Note and it is on it's way and I should get it tomorrow. I cannot wait to try out all the new and exciting features.
Same here. My tracking label says ~ "We have received your item and expect to deliver it before the guaranteed time on 04/11/11."

Depends on what your concerns are so please come back if you wish a better answer.
If it is to do with warranties, well phones will have to be shipped back to where you purchased from. This can be awkward, you have to read the warranty card that comes with the phone.
Registering the phone on the Samsung web site may be an issue.
Your best bet is to read the Samsung Warranty web pages which can be found here.

GT-N5120 Note 8.0 4G / LTE

I have noticed that Expansys now have it as 'ordered on request', the price seems a little steep and I am not sure if it is worth the premium over the 3G model. Would be interested in your opinions and if anyone can confirm if it has actually been launched anywhere?

Right....might have to just order one - was waiting for the "Black Brown" colour scheme, but I just can't wait any longer after bricking my Galaxt 7.7" late last year...

Also keen to hear which ROM it is using ?

Unless I activate my spare Boost SIM I'm on Kogan. I really only got the 4G as the price was so good it seemed sill not to.
Will report on it in comparison to my Nexus 7. I really want full voice calling/sms capability on a tablet and stop carrying two devices, two SIMS two plans etc.
I bricked my Note N7000 last week - tried to install Swapper 2. Wasn't until after it died I search for Swapper 2 problems that I saw how risky this app was
It's in for a quote to repair (unbrick) now.... I'm hoping if the Note 8.0 is good enough I can sell the Note N7000 and Nexus 7 and have one device... and one that's better for browsing than the Nexus is. We'll see how that all pans out.
Cheers

Here you go (let me know if the link doesn't work):
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-...AAAAAAAAw_k/VNFL65TYrv8/w549-h878-no/2013+-+1
Delivery was good.
Ordered 23/5
Released in Hong Kong 24/5 (Fri)
Shipped Mon 27/5
730am 30/5 arrived at my door (western Sydney)
Box was completely sealed.
First impressions:
It's a much better form factor than the Nexus 7. Reading books is no issue, but e-magazines and websites really benefit from the 8" screen. Bezel is bigger than the Nexus so it is easier to hold only the device not the screen as well. Great for reading and swiping to next page.
Not sure what "reading mode" does (yet), but I've locked it in portrait mode for Kindle and Web browsing. Will try landscape as the added width of landscape did work well on the Nexus for some sites.
I use Nova Launcher, but didn't have any issue with TouchWiz - except I'd have to set up all my icons again, so moved my Nexus Nova backup file across and restored once I'd restored all my apps and voila' same home screen
3G "seems" faster than my Galaxy Note N7000 as if the radio antenna is bigger giving a better connect. However it's totally subjective.
Haven't tried voice or 4G yet. (Using Kogan so only have 3G).
Speed is about the same, technically it's faster but for email and browsing you can't tell.
Speakers are on the bottom and work well. Sound for music and games is quite audible
I got used to the Nexus no physical home button, and don't like the Note 8.0's physical button. It feels flimsy (even though my Note N7000 had the same thing).
Screen is very crisp and clear even if not an IPS or better screen.
Waiting on a case from eBay before I venture out with bluetooth headset as a phone.
Can't talk about lag yet as I'm still downloading music, and updates and customising so I need to allow the device to "settle" before I decide if there's any lag.
I've rooted with framaroot which has lost OTA updates (I did one first).
I haven't yet put clockwork mod or TWRP recovery - waiting for more work by the devs on the 5120 before I play too much
Overall I'm happy with the purchase (i.e. grey import) and the device.
Cheers Russ

I wouldn't worry about flashing the AUS ROM, for some reason it takes out the option to customise the Lock Screen Apps.
ie: they took the option out completely.
Other than a couple of Channel 7 Apps, there was nothing better about popping on the local ( or NZ ROM, as I tried both ) so I just flashed straight back to the HK Rom so I could customise my Lock Screen Apps.
4G works a treat on Telstra and Optus, am interested to see what happens when sad old Vodafone turn their 4G on.
Though what I don't like is the trendy Book Cover, as if you slightly move it it thinks you're opening it and turns the screen on, which is annoying in a bag. Silly Samsung Accessories.
Using it as an actual phone is hilarious, though I have a headset for phone calls. It's fun writing txts on.
