The only things you can do are:
- wipe data of the camera app in system/apps/all apps
- Data/factory reset
- Flash your rom with Odin and data factory reset.
If that doesn`t work its probably a hardware failure.

Thanks dude
you're awesome.....
you sabe from buying another s4. i just did the step 2 and worked perfectly!
could you explain me what exactly happened.
thanks man you're Gods will.....

[Q] [Troubleshooting] Front Facing Camera

worked for awhile on CM10.1 and AOKP then it randomly just kinda stopped working?
Camera app would freeze up when switching to front camera.
Rear facing camera works perfect though.
Reverted back to stock and everytime I switch to the front camera it says "camera failed".
im kinda outta ideas on how to fix this..
Still on stock untill i find a solution.

1. Dial *#34971539#
2. Select second option called Phone to CAM FW Write (Rear) and update your camera if isnt updated. If you have it grey, forget it.
3. Latest option is change the front camera. You have a very nice guide for fix it -> HERE

You have any source for the "upgrade camera fix"?
And replacing the front facing camera is not an option, the camera works just fine, it has to be a software bug.
Edit:
I tested what you said, updating the camera and it worked! Thank you so much!
Edit 2:
Nevermind, the bug is still there...

So my girlfriend's i9505 front facing camera is acting wierd. I think it happened when she upgrated to 4.3.
When using any effect with the front camera, the picture gets way too dark and you can mostly only see shapes. When you enable the "dual camera feature" and then disable it the camera gets normal again, but as soon as you change effect or re-open the front camera it gets dark again.
This doesn't happen with the rear camera though. If you select an effect with the rear camera and then switch to front camera, the pic is normal. But as soon as the problem appears, it stays there even if you switch cameras, and you have to close the camera app to get it normal again.
It's really wierd, I've wiped Camera data, wiped cache through recovery (stock rom/recovery, non-rooted), and I even did a factory reset but nothing, the bug is there.
Anyone else facing the same problem? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Did you figure out how to fix it?
Nope, haven't found much about it..

[Q] Front Facing Camera does not work

Weird issue. I was comparing my STOCK (2.3.4) MyTouch 4g phone settings, hardware, etc, (settings -> about phone -> hardware information) to another exact phone (my family has 4 of them) and I noticed that my phone hardware did NOT list the front facing camera. The Main Camera is shown with 5m.
I then fired up the camera app. The Rear Facing Camera works fine. When I press the icon to change to the Front Facing Camera, the camera app closes and I end up back at the main home screen.
I tried going to setup -> applications -> running -> all -> camera and clearing the data and resetting the phone. The FFC still does not show up in the hardware list and does not work in the camera app.
Any ideas? Would a factory reset fix this?
Thanks!
Any ideas as to why the front facing camera does not show up in the firmware list?
Is there something that I need to do to 'activate' it?
Would a factory reset help?
Thoughts?

If it crashes when you try to access the ffc, try a reset.
If that doesnt work you could try a custom rom.
If that doesnt work then its hardware related. Maybe the front camera isnt present, or disconnected due to the phone falling down.

Rear camera not working.

Hey guys,
Have got a problem with the rear camera.
When I open the camera app I get a media center failed camera needs to restart.
If I switch to front camera have no issues.
I have wiped data and factory reset but no joy.
What else could I do?
Regards Richard

Camera unavailable

Anyone else having issues getting Camera unavailable? I can use third party camera apps and access both rear cameras.
But if I use the stock one and switch to the rear camera I get "Camera Error" Camera Unavailable.
I also had that today for the stock video but trying a second time it worked.
Yea mine just keeps doing it over and over, OpenCamera runs both cameras just fine, but doesn't see the front camera lol, front camera works fine and non-wide rear works fine on stock app.
I tried to run a full KDZ reset, but it doesn't let me refurbish, only upgrade, so if there is something wrong with the files in there, I fear they may not have been fixed.
Have you tried uninstalling OpenCamera and see if it goes away? I had this happen on an older phone, after a reboot it would work, come to find out, another app was holding the camera open
Yea I've tried using a fully reset phone, after digging more it looks like if the camera is in "Selfie Mode" the rear cameras work, but it's like if the selfie camera is no longer being detected by anything.
