I got this weird problem with mg S4 (GT-I9500)
I am currently on XXUBUMG9, rooted with PhilzTouch Recovery & Adam Kernel v1.8. During file transfer, for some unknown reason, the phone automatically restarts. But it is only for videos, other large zip files like custom ROMs seems unaffected. So I tried doing Wipe and install a custom ROM only to find out that it has the same issue. I even swtich USB Ports, and Data Cables but no help. And I also tried using other MicroSD Cards that I have but the problem is still there. Then I tried reflashing my stock firmware with no root, both just plain flash and with Wipe and the problem is gone! But I can't manage not to have Wolfson Audio Control that both Perseus and Adam Kernal has. And I also need root.
What could be causing this and is there any other solution to my problem. BTW, vice-versa. transfering large videos from pc to phone doesn't have this problem.
Many Thanks!

Yesterday I needed to take a picture and used my Galaxy S. for it. After that I connected my phone to my laptop USB port and got an unknown device error. Assuming it was a driver problem I re-installed them keeping the same error.
I also got telephony problems before, after some minutes calling the other side couldn't hear me anymore and I needed to put the call on wait and back to continue the call.
Both problems together made me decide to update my Darky 10.1 Extreme edition to the latest 10.2 Extreme edition. I took my sd card out and copied the darky 10.2 zip to it using my laptop. Put it back in and used Astro filemanager to copy it to the internal sd. Because I can't use the usb port this was the only way.
Rebooted to recovery and flashed 10.2. After reboot the screen stayed at the boot screen with green Darky text for half an hour without doing anything. No vibrate or anything. I did read some info about 10.2 before i downloaded it but missed the lagfix point. Tried to get into recovery and luckily that worked. Turned on the lagfix, did hear the computer voice 2 or 3 times and last time it said lagfix was enabled. Rebooted to recovery again, checked lagfix was on, also for next boot, and flashed 10.2 again. Same problem, hangs at bootscreen.
Turned lagfix off again and flashed the old 10.1 again. Same problem again, this time only bootscreen with white SG text and both button lights on. Nothing for the rest. Flashed back, after lagfix enabled, to 10.2 again without luck. Again bootscreen only.
Someone knows how to fix this? Because of the usb problem I can't use Odin. I did read somewhere now there might be a cable problem or a dirty usb connector on the phone. Checked the connector visually and can't see any dirt, I also keep it closed when not using it.It does load the battery also when connected to my laptop. At least it did when I first got the unknown device error.
1) USB Error
I am not sure you have Only installed the USB driver alone or Kies it self. Anyway, try this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265. Scandisk with delete currupted file on your disk drive and replace with default window file. You can reinstall your driver/Kies on your laptop after scandisk complete.
2) First, you must come from JVP or JVQ base rom. JVO and older rom have older bootloader. What you need to do is to flash JVP or JVQ stock rom with bootloader into your phone. Then, flash over Darky 10.2 over the phone. Take note that Darky still have many problem and it is not that stable yet. I've run it over a week and decided to dump it. The rom is too big at 215MB where else others rom only 195MB. The startup is too slow, take 5-10min after reboot the phone. The initial start up takes nearly 15min after flash.

If your boot takes so long, you doing something wrong
First boot, yes... it takes some time. But then, the animation isn't finished yet and I'm already good to go (after media bla bla bla)
@OoZic
For darkys rom... i had the same problem.
First flash Ficetos resurection 10.2, then make shure lagfix is ON (full lagfix - check in voodoo control app) and then flash 10.2 extreme edition
For details go to

I had the problem too
Thank you for your reply from.insider
Problem is the phone can only do bootscreen and recovery. The device isn't recognized in any way. Tried it on 2 computers (laptop/PC) with different multiboots (Win7 X64 and Vista X86 on both). Maybe that is because the OS isn't loaded and can't go to MTP?
Is there a way to copy something from external SD to internal SD within recovery menu? Because that way I can copy a JVP or JVQ image to internal. Now there are only the 10.1 and 10.2 zips from Darky.
FSCK didn't find any problems btw.
Thanks again.
Problem solved, my Galaxy is unbricked and working again. Very happy now
Can't post a link because of low post count but the answer is on post-87372 on Darky.com.
The USB problem also went away, but after using Titanium to put my backup back the problem was here again. something in my settings or a service is screwing something up with the mtp I think. Used Android Booster to kill some things and it works again. As soon as I know what exactly is screwing up my mtp I will let you all know.

Hi all, hoping to get some advice in regards to a brick wall I've hit.
So background, my Galaxy S4 (i9505 running 4.2.2) has had ongoing USB recognition issues and thus I haven't been able to upgrade to a custom rom for a while. After following a couple of very detailed and useful guides on here, without success I had decided that it was likely one of two things:
A hardware problem (I have a third party charging port installed after the OEM stopped working)
Or when I was playing around with settings I derped and uninstalled the MTP application or some related core service.
So I left it for a while but today I decided to do something about it and discovered Mobile Odin (4.20), bought it and clean flashed SlimKat 4.4.4 (http%www%slimroms%net/index.php/downloads/dlsearch/viewcategory/1182-jflte). Took a while but the rom booted, really liked the look and I tried to install 3rd party apps and set up phone as usual but noticed that Google Play Store was missing. Manually installed V4.9 but it kept opening and closing so I uninstalled and the flashed the normal gapps and the AIO gapps through Mobile Odin (with and without clear cache), both processed OK but upon reboot none of apps ever installed.
So I decided to re-flash the SlimKat, I had to re download as I performed a factory restore in amongst things and had the original rom stored on internal. When I flashed inject root was checked as were all the other default options but upon reboot Mobile Odin is giving me "Could not detect device model" which after looking around basically means I lost root .
So my questions are: Without connecting via USB (because it's still not working) what are my options for flashing another rom or regaining root? Is there a way to get to stock 4.4.4 without USB?
Really appreciate any advice, currently the phone has network service and WiFi so in the mean time, without Google Play store it is just a significant inconvenience, but still operational.
Regards,
Marc

I don't know how but my root has been restored while I was playing around clearing app cache's etc. So now I have SlimKat 4.4.4 but unfortunately still no Google services/Store etc. When I manually install it, it has this issue where it automatically opens and then closes, so still working on fixing that. Again appreciate any input.
Hello, I've been flashing ROMs for a while now and I can't think of a way to regain root from within the ROM itself. How did you get root on your device in the first place to install mobile odin?
I have never used a play store application for any type of flashing, was never sure if it would be reliable or not. That being said, have you installed a custom recovery into your phone whilst you were playing around with it? If you did then you can fix this without fixing your USB connection.
However if you still have stock recovery, you probably need a USB connection to regain root. If that is the case, what have you actually tried to fix the USB problem?

Hey @lichking21st. Mobile Odin is allegedly just odin without the need for USB. I have tried to fix the USB to no avail
Actually just about to update my original post, I don't know how but my root has been restored while I was playing around clearing app cache's etc. So now I have SlimKat but unfortunately still no Google services/Store etc. When I manually install it, it has this issue where it automatically opens and then closes, so still working on fixing that. Problems solved!
Clean flashed stock rom then clean flashed back to SlimKat. Google play and root carried over.
USB still not working have to put it down to a hardware issue now. Oh well, so happy
@MOD you can close this. Thanks again for the help LichKing

Glad to see your problem is fixed, I would still advise you to get a custom recovery so you have some options if you really get stuck without root for next time. I recommend using TWRP but CWM works too.
Hi
My device baseband is I9505XXUEMK9, Android version 4.3.1, and on a custom ROM (Slimbean).
The issue began when I attempted to flash a 4.4.2 (official) stock ROM from another country, which I now acknowledge as a MAJOR mistake. It was unsuccessful and led to my phone being soft-bricked. However, I had backed up my device prior to flashing 4.4.2 so that ensured its functionality.
After restoring my phone using the backup, the phone completely lost sound output. Whenever I tried to play music, the message "Unfortunately, DSP Manager has stopped" pops up. Video and audio cannot be played at all so apps like YouTube, alarm clocks, PVStar, and video-sharing websites would either crash or provide no video/audio output.
I can make calls but they result in a laggy black screen and there is no sound. I can only receive messages that calls have been missed.
I have tried flashing official stock ROM (I9505XXUEMK9) various times but they all resulted in failure. I have also flashed the modem for my device (XXUEMK9). I have tried out different custom ROM's but the problem persists.
Is this situation salvageable? I am willing to school myself on bootloaders and the such to solve this issue.
Help is much appreciated.

I would do a full wipe from Philz Touch CWM. Clean to install new ROM, and after that recover Your backup.
If it wont work, dirty reflash your Slimbean.
If it wont work, backup Your sdcard, install stock recovery or prerooted stock rom and wipe Your phone from there. If Odin wont work, try Mobile Odin.
Thank you for the response.
I have tried the first and second methods, yet the issues remain.
I am going to try the third one though it would be using a prerooted stock ROM of another variant as there are no XXUEMK9 prerooted stock ROM's.
EDIT: Third method didn't work for me either. It yields the same result as flashing the official stock ROM's.
guys please help me, i think im screwing up my mtp with trickster mode by clicking force fast charge when it is connected to pc, now my internal storage content is hidden as android cannot detect the file in file manager, but in storage setting my data is still there, tried wiping and clean install the rom back still the same, mtp to pc also dead as its not displaying anything even the basic folder like android data and etc are all gone ..in twrp all the data still intact and i can revert back to my backup file which is android kitkat and worked fine. but whenever i flash fresh lolipop through twrp this problem came up.
i hate to download other rom zip as i directly flashed from twrp
is there any problem using this method?
btw im using this zip from the thread
[ROM][5.0.0][LRX21T] Flashable stock ROM + Radio [NEW]

any clue guys to fix this mtp issue?
TWRP and Lollipop
I know on my Nexus 5, I had to install a newer version of TWRP because the Lollipop ROMs had to run an additional command to move the internal storage mount point to the appropriate place.
You should read the ROM thread and make sure that your Nexus 4 thread doesn't require any sdcard related "fixes" after installing Lollipop.
This is what fixed the Nexus 5 ROMs:

Good Luck,

Did you turn off fast charge already? There is no MTP with fast charge enabled.
Hello everyone!
I swapped out my USB connection to my phone because it broke and since then I cannot use any of the USB features on my phone beside slow charging (china quality).
But I tried to call my emergency number and it didn't connect me because of a bug with custom rom and the phone app. Now I'm trying to reinstall my phone to stock but I can't do it because I can't get fastboot to work or ADB.
Is there a way I can flash the stock rom with twrp? It doesn't seem to work with google's own .zip files.
Thanks in advance!
Grab a near stock ROM like SuperXE or Pure Nexus.
use http://portal.pushbullet.com/ to push the files too the device, and wipe appropriately in TWRP.
