I'm into tech stuff have the HTC one X also have the TF101 which the kids use as well as me .They are 7 and 9 and was thinking of getting them a nexus 7 each for Xmas for movies, music, games and general web stuff.Would have no issues rooting them and putting custom roms on.Other than it being a very good tablet for the price I know little about the N7 anyone got kids using them everyday and how do they find them

I wouldnt cuz they would like it and use it so much that it could ruin their vision

No offense, but my kid won't have a tablet till he's in highschool. Get them a book or a new bike.

if your giving a tab..you might consider to have them a curfew when using it..
lets say 2 hours after done with homework..
just remember to say that they need to learn time management

Imo there's no reason to not get a child a tablet, it can be a tool for education and reading should you choose it to be. I got my sisters children rattling away on computers when they were still toddlers, I think that technology will be an important part of their lives, and I want them to embrace it early.
I might be a little worried about a child breaking the screen on the tablet though.
I see your point about books and bikes
I have kids zone on my TF101 and both use it for education, both love reading books, eldest uses the pc for home work and is a whizz on word and power point. They have bikes and get plenty of exercise and are.doing very well in school.I see this as a better option for movies music and stuff neither are or will be on facebook or Twitter until at least 14.it's more amedia device for them and web browsing for homework and things Like mosshi monsters

Me personally, and I'm not telling you what to do, computers are just taking over kids lives and they are not knowing how awesome it is to be outside like we all were when we were kids.
But movies are a blast to watch if you are camping with them. And who knows, books in school could all be headed towards PDF formats anyways.

I say go for it! I Gave my son his first phone at eleven, with rules of course.. they will love it!
This is the way of their generation. It's cheaper than a Nintendo system and does more right?

Do it mate.
My 9 year old son got a tab as well and he uses it only if he's done playing outside with his friends. He is not that into gadget but still it's ok he have one and got something to use whenever he feels like. So it's still depends on the kids if they want to spend more or less time with the tab.
Tapatalked from my N7
Yes they would definitely love it if they also got a few games on it too hehe. You could get groove IP on it and also use it as a phone considering your in the US or CANADA region. There are any benefits to it more than just for entertainment. The ultimate decision of how your kids play with their toys is yours though.
Hmm isn't there a more kid friendly tablet that has the same exact specs as the N7 but has a SD card slot and outer wear. Also has root and gapps. Might be a better alternative.

Hey Guys,
I'm searching for a good cover for the nexus 7 and I found this. After some research I haven't found any review to this cover on xda, but it looks good!
Anybody has this cover and could give a little review on this? :good:
According to a video on YouTube there are some manufacturing defects on the seam, do you have this problem, too?
Thanks in advance and a happy new year!
Looks just like the Moko Slim Case. There's a review here on xda for that one.

I bought this item for my nexus 7.
It has a number of ways to use the stand which I like very much.
The only thing that I didn't like was that it doesn't fit as snuggly as I would of liked.
But overall a good product, protects my nexus which is the main thing.
I would recommend this item.

I just cant see myself using a flip case. It seems like it'll get in the way, but I like the idea of having your wallet combined with it,
Mine should be here soon. If you order do it on Amazon, they have a discount code in the description which will give you ten dollars off the price. I didn't see it till after I ordered it so check that out.

Got one
I have had one for a couple of weeks now. I really like it. My cards are easy to pull out of the slots. The leather has broken in at the spine and it folds over great. It doesn't honestly get in the way of using the phone personally. My only complaint is it gets a little thick with some cards in it. I have 3 cards in it and I can hardly fit it in my pockets. Granted my pants pockets are on the slim fitting side. I usually just carry it around or put it in my jacket pocket. So far I am impressed with it, except it takes a little work to get it out of the case. I am always afraid I am going to scratch or chip that chrome ring around the front of the phone when I pull it out of the case.
Would you guys minds putting up some be pictures, thanks!

I hope nobody gets offended by me asking this, but is the galaxy tab 2 7.0 still worth getting right now? I was thinking of getting a 7 inch tablet with a rear camera. I don't need a super great camera because its more on taking pictures of receipts and docs. Maybe a few normal pictures. I know it has JB so that's great. Its has gps, bluetooth, otg, and the good stuff like that. I'm afraid that the tablet may have run its course already. Is the processor going to keep up much longer or will it be considered to far back like the 1ghz single core? I want to get it and last more than a year or a year and a half without problems on performance and stuff. I've seen the 8gb wifi version for around $170. Or should i wait for something else to pop up?

I do not have a ton of insight on the subject, but while I'm happy with my tab, other companies are producing tablets with better specs in the gtab 2's price range, and as some of them are much newer, like one of asus's new tabs, they might have a longer shelf life, support wise and hardware. Personally, i enjoy all the dev activity we have on this tab.
Edit: acer not Asus. Asus's 7 inch 150$ is lower in specs.

Nexus 7 has no camera? Man, maybe that's why it has better specs than the Tab 2.
To answer OP's question, yep, I think this Tab is still worth getting. It's currently at the top of the list of the most tablets sold, beating even the Nexus 7.

Thats prolly cause most people dont really know bout the other tablets on the market. other than what they see on tv or in places like walmart or best buy.. lol
most people are like oh galaxy s3 or iphone this.. never hear someone say oh gotta get that new acer tablet lol
I say the tab 2 for the price. is still a pretty good deal. but i have no use for a wifi only tab. which i why i spent extra to get the 3100 instead.. still the cam sucks but for quick shots outside etc. its fine..
There are better tablets out there. and not so better tablets out there. the tab 2 is right in the middle. 179 on amazon for the wifi only.. pretty good deal to me.

Get the Tab 2, Sanmobile announces that the Tab 2 will get JB updates up to 4.2.2 which is good. I ahve the skyrocket and I was on GB2.3.6, ICS4.0.4 and know JB 4.1.2 ! :sly: I extend the life of my phone from maybe two years , in the mean time S4 is maturing .....

I've just gotten the Galaxy Tab 2.0 7.0 (7") offered for 123 USD, is that a good deal? And sorry to bump the thread but is it still viable? Or should I just give the extra dough for one with higher resolution, would mostly use it for quick sketches and reading e-books.
Hey thanks everyone. I didn't want to jump into a tablet and then regret it, not because something better came out, but of the tablet not being up to par anymore.

I got a GT 2 7.0 few months ago. I considered Nexus 7 and waiting a little for other tablets to come out, but ultimately bought GT2 7.0.
1. Nexus 7 doesn't have external SD card support. If you are taking pictures, you would probably want to expand storage. And Nexus 7 doesn't have a rear camera.
2. There are other low-price 7-inch tablets coming out, like Asus Memopad (no rear camera) and Acers. But, you will never get to buy a tablet, because there will always be a new, cheaper, better tablets coming out.
3. Longevity of the tablet will depend on what you are using the tablet for. The specs and OS version do not determine how long it will last. Old smartphones (android/Apple/ others) will still work, if they are still capable of doing what you need them to do. Old Gingerbread/ICS android phones/tablets are still perfectly fine, because they still can run all the apps and do everything it should.
Specs also are a minor issue, because it will just mean that it will take few more seconds to load and run.
If GT2 7.0 will do everything you want it to and it makes sense financially, you should get it. If another tablet makes sense, you should get that one. If you are not looking to suddenly play graphic-intensive 3D games on the tablet, any tablet will last you a long time. From what you described, you may even be able to get by with a no-name brand tablets for cheaper. But, GT2 is a quality product and a good choice for the money you are going to spend.

4.5 GB internal storage for apps and such.
For those on the fence, how about a $138 Like New Tab 2 7.0 shipped from Amazon Warehouse? Check it out.
The only problem with this device is the screen (it is only a MDPI). In the future, Google will only be supporting HDPI and above I think.. So, probably no Key Lime Pie for the Tab 2.
The rear camera on Tab 2 lacks AF, so it is useless for trying to get clear captures of receipts or even scanning QR codes, which the threadstarter did mention was a reason to consider Tab 2.

The hardware is amazing.
It's way underpriced and I love it :victory:
Spent the whole day playing with it today after buying it from a local Gamestop. It's great. Enjoying it much more than the previous Nexus 7. The screen is beautiful and the dual speakers are a breath of fresh air compared to the tinny sound of the mono speaker we had previously.
