Lumia 920 Amber Update via Rogers Dev ROM - Windows Phone 8 Development and Hacking

UPDATE! Rogers has released an official Amber ROM for Rogers branded L920s. If you want them, here are the product codes for the equivalent colors
059R2L8 RM-820 VAR AMERICA CA ROGERS SL YELLOW
059R3R8 RM-820 VAR AMERICA CA ROGERSWIR SL RED
059Q6W4 RM-820 VAR AMERICA CA ROGERSWIR SL BLACK
059R6P3 RM-820 VAR AMERICA CA ROGERSWIRE SL WHIT
Use the firmware download option from NCS in order to download the ROMS or use http://www.mrcrab.net/Nokia-Product-Code.html.
After installing the Rogers ROM, you'll need to get the access point app and choose AT&T LTE 2 in order to have data and MMS. I forgot to put it in here, but thanks to @riceboyler

Hi All,
I've spent the past 4 days looking for a solution to get the Amber Update on my AT&T Branded Lumia 920 without installing a European ROM and changing to RM-821. After searching endlessly, I've found my solution that works!
Prerequisites
* Nokia WP8 Drivers
* Nokia Care Suite 2013.13.4.4
* WperHelper v1.2 Note: This is in Chinese. I don't know Chinese AT ALL, but I've been able to figure my way around the app
* Rogers Pre-Poritco ROM. Download the last group of files for Roger, not the AT&T ones.
Steps:
* DONT PLUG IN YOUR PHONE YET TO THE COMPUTER.
* Extract/Install Nokia Care Suite. Open Care Suite when it's done installing and just put it to the side
* Install WperHelper. It's all in chinese, but the buttons should be easy to navigate through
* Download the last group of files for the pre-portico ROM if you haven't done so already.
* Go to the Run menu on your system and go to "C:\programdata\nokia\Packages\Products". Create a new folder named "RM-820". If you already have files in here from a previous ROM installation, move them somewhere else. The group of files you downloaded for the Pre-Portico ROM will need to be moved inside of this folder.
* Rename the pre-portico files removing the checksum from beginning of the file name.
Here's what you should have as files
* RM820_1232.2109.1242.1002_RETAIL_nam_canada_200_02_100347_prd_signed.ffu
* RM-820_RM-821_RM-822_TypeLabel_Group1_DM_5.33x5.33_CoO_Eng__001.xml
* CustomerNvi_31019d17537fb461136cdf3481825681_12421_100343_8410.nvi
* RM820_059R2L8_1232.2109.1242.1002_039.vpl
* 112545v3.pcx
* RM820_059R2L8_1232.2109.1242.1002_039.dcp
* RM820_059R2L8_1232.2109.1242.1002_039_signature.bin
* RM820_059R2L8_ccc_v039.bin
* RM820_059R2L8_hwt_v039.bin
* NWP8_WP8_Rogers_Fido_simlock_crcFCB5.bin
* DC_template_development_v4.bin
* Go back to NCS and double click on the Product Support Tool. If you don't see the little menu with the choices of apps to install, go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Nokia\Nokia Care Suite\Product Support Tool For Store 5.0" and click on ProductSupportToolForStore.exe (Make sure the icon is an arrow. We don't need to open the .MANIFEST file).
* When the Sign in popup comes on the screen. click Work offline.
Click File -> Open Product and type in RM-820 in the filter then press Open
* At the bottom left panel, click on Programming -> Recovery.
* In the Properties listing, you should see 059R2L8 RM-820_Rogers_Canada_VAR240202_V2_Yellow 1232.2109.1242.1002
* Click on that line that shows the data that I listed above then click the Start button.
* Plug in your phone to the USB now, hold the Vol-Down + Power buttons until the phone restarts and you hear a vibration.
* When you hear the vibration, press Retry.
* You should see a little menu saying that the Product Code doesn't match, press Okay to continue.
* Let it flash.
* After the phone has flashed, set it up, but don't login to your Microsoft account yet (It's pointless at this point). Configure Wi-Fi though.
* Go to Settings -> Phone update and check for updates. The first round of updates will put you on to Portico.
* After these updates go through (It will take forever for it to finish Preparing to Install), you'll have to check for updates two more times in order to install Nokia Updates.
* After these two extra updates, your phone will be up to date.
* Now comes the fun part. Open up the WperHelper that you installed earlier.
* On the Top group of text links(The bigger text), chose the second one from the left. It should bring up a screen with 4 drop downs.
* From left to right, choose the following as values: Nokia, Lumia 920, RM-820, 3047.0000.1326.2001.
* Click on the 059R2L5 button that is located under the first dropdown. At the bottom right part of the screen, you'll see a download icon (downward facing arrow with a line underneath of it). Click it.
* This will start to download the ROM. When complete, Click on the Top group of text links, click on the third one then click on the second smaller text link underneath of it.
* You should see bbs.wper.com_059R2L5.7z. Click on it then click the lightning bolt on the bottom left corner. This will extract the FFU package.
* After it's complete, you'll see a new screen with a picture of a Windows phone and a bunch of Chinese text (I wish I had a translation). At this point you'll want to click the button that is listed directly under ( Step ).
* This will automatically begin the ROM updating process. You'll be able to see a little log running at the bottom of the screen on whether the Flashing is working or not.
* The place where the Windows Phone is showing will display the actual progress of flashing as it appears on your phone. You should be seeing the red screen with the progress bar on your windows phone by now. If this happens for you, then you're on your way to having the Amber Update.
A few things to note
After fully flashed, it'll bring you back to the typical phone set up screen. After you get to the main homescreen, wait a minute or so because it will require a reboot. After you bring the phone back up, go to Settings -> Access Point and choose AT&T - LTE 2 - Lumia. This will set up the MMS and Data settings correctly.
Have fun!
EDIT:
I've found a way to get Internet Sharing working for AT&T Customers.
* Install the Spanish keyboard via Settings -> Keyboard -> add keyboards-> Spanish (Spain). It should be showing a Preparing Download status.
* A menu should a pear that says that the update is ready to be installed. At this point, postpone it.
* You should see internet sharing underneath Settings. Click on it and attempt to turn it on. You should see the error to call 611.
* Go back to Settings -> language+region and set the Country/Region to United States. Let it reboot.
* After reboot, Go into Settings -> phone update and install the update and let it reboot.
* After this reboot, play around with the phone for 5 or 10 minutes. Let it get used to the change in region then go to Settings -> internet sharing and attempt to turn it on.
* At this point, you shouldn't see any errors and you should be able to share your connection.
Try this out and see if it works. For the heads up

Also, be sure to update your extras+info app in order to get call and SMS blocking. Download here

How do I revert back to a standard ROM? I tried just downloading an AT&T ROM from the same place that we're supposed to get the pre-Portico ROMs, but that tells me that the ROM isn't meant for my device.
This is the message I get:

Yep. For now, I'm just reinstalling everything and going to deal with the no tethering. It's not that big of a deal, just pretty annoying. I've tried several of the AT&T ROMs listed in the link in the OP.
I think visual voicemail is broke as well, but that I don't care about at all.

Visual voice mail works after you first call your voicemail. That same thing happened to me.
Hmm that's interesting that you can't flash back to a stock rom anymore even though this is a RM-820 ROM.

does this works with any RM-820 Lumia 920? Mine is RM-820 but it is from Mexico.

Yea, doesn't make much sense to me. I'll test the visual voicemail thing, but really that's completely meaningless to me. I almost never use my phone as a phone, so that's not a big deal. I do use it for tethering sometimes, so that's really frustrating. I'm going to wait a while and see if maybe AT&T just needs to ping the phone with a "yep, you're internet tethering enabled!" message. If I still can't figure it out, I'll call again in a few days.
Honestly I don't use tethering that much, but it's still frustrating.
Also, apps still seem to think I'm in Canada. I installed Amazon, and it defaulted to the Amazon store. I was able to switch it, but that was weird.

Just fair warning, if you have internet tethering, I would hold off on doing this. Even if you pay for it, it doesn't look like it's working. I'm trying a couple things to fix it, will report back if I figure it out.

Nope, I think the author of this meathod was trying something else, we're waiting to hear back from him. I was able to get Visual Voicemail working, and I've used the workaround described in the first post to enable internet sharing.
So, Visual Voicemail wasn't working. All I had to do to fix it was get someone to leave a voicemail, then call voicemail on my phone. Now visual voicemail shows up just fine. I think that means that the phone pinged AT&T to check if I had visual voicemail because I was able to recieve a voicemail. Now, with Internet Sharing, I think something similar might happen. I used the workaround to enable Internet Sharing, and I'm hoping that now that I've turned Internet Sharing on, my phone will just remain with tethering on, since I do pay for it, and I'm not trying to hack it for free.
It'll probably just revert back to no tether in a few hours, but it's kind of my last hope.

I found THIS post

This guy was able to somehow get back to an AT&T Rom.
I'm trying to download the 5951.XXXX ROM for Rogers then see if I can go back to pre-portico and back to AT&T.
http://www.mrcrab.net/Nokia-Product-Code.html?ProductCode=059R3R8 <--- Go to this site and type in product codes and you'll get the firmware downloads.
I'll be back to report. Their servers aren't that fast.

Does this has datasense?
As I said before, my phone is not ATT... Can I back to my stock rom?

Possible to run Tetherbot on an RC-30 G1?

My G1 is two days old so came from the shop (T-Mobile, UK) with Android RC-30 already on. I've been trying to use it as a modem for my laptop on public transport (without success).
So far I have Tetherbot installed and the Socks service started on 1080, Android SDK is installed on the lappy (Ubuntu 8.04 LTS) and 'adb forward tcp:1080 tcp:1080) creates a port to which I can telnet to (and terminate from by pressing return). FF is configured to use a manual proxy on localhost:1080..
Also set the about:config network.proxy.socks_remote_dns flag to true.
All good, except when I enter any URL into FF, the status bar immediately shows 'Done' yet there's no rendering being done at all - still looking at a blank screen.
I've yet to try FoxyProxy which I'll give a go tonight - but I was wondering if it is currently possible to configure a instance of RC-30 w/o root access at all? Reading around, some people say it is while others say it isn't..
Many thanks,
Duncan
Definitely works in ota RC30. Snippet from the Tetherbot thread:
Make sure that you set FoxyProxy to use SOCKS for DNS lookups(under Global Settings)...this stumped me too at first

Thanks! Web-browsing now works with FoxyProxy although I have to keep re-entering the ./adb forward tcp:1080 tcp:1080 command every few minutes..
Setting up the port-bouncer for ssh on 22 was less successful though, as it usually causes the Tetherbot application to crash.
Any ideas why T-Mobile wouldn't want you to use the phone as a modem anyway? Having come from an O2/Xda package I'd just expected that all modern phones would work as modems. Shame about the root lock-down too, I was half hoping for a meaningful bash shell and porting/installing Gnu utils, etc.
I guess the G1 would have the same data problems even if it were paired with a tablet like the N-800?
Many thanks,
Duncan

My guess is it has to do with anticipated network usage. I don't know how tethering works with data plans in the UK, but generally in the US unlimited data is divided into handset-only and full unlimited (e.g. for pc cards). Not only is data usage generally lower for mobile applications, you're also highly limited by battery life.

A lot of people were hoping for that. The G1 isn't that device though. Full unencumbered shell access would just be a nightmare from a customer service POV. The G1 is first and foremost a consumer device. A lot of those people could end up easily and irreversibly bricking their phones from a root shell.
Yeah i hear that, thats why i really dont care if i have root access. I'm sure in time all that we are wishing for will come out for g1, dont wanna ruin my phone!!! All i really want is internet sharing on mine.

It has nothing to do with customer service, but T-Mobile's desire to retain control over things. They probably don't want people to do internet sharing, because it will slow down their network. What they don't realize, is that soon there are going to be a lot of unlocked android phones available which wont be subject to their policies.
What I don't get is that with any other HTC device you can boot the phone into SPL mode and flash a new image. With the G1, that is not possible.

Your speculations are incorrect. T-Mobile stated that they will not stop or block internet sharing, but they will not help you either. Basically they remain neutral and that is why you think T-Mobile is against you.
Google blocked the usb mode image flash. So far we just don't know how to flash a new image because we are not sure if it is supposed to be DREA100.IMG or what is even in the image itself.
Back on topic, I think you will see a real solution when Android 1.0 is released. Or at least have a way to get full root. Basically from what has been said root was locked down not because of anything we did but because the source is not open yet. They are working on things behind the scenes and they need to finish those before they want us to fool around. Give them time to finish their projects and then they will let us start our own.

A few things...
1. The source code has already been published (minus a few hardware specific drivers) at source.android.com. You can build an image from source and boot it on the emulator that Google has packaged with the android sdk. There still is no way to load said image on a G1 unless you have root of course.
2. Google didn't lock down SPL on the dream, HTC did. And it was probably because T-Mobile didn't want people loading their own firmware on a device that is already running on open source software.
3. Ever since this root nonsense has come to light, I don't buy the whole neutrality thing. If everyone had root access, we would have a much easier way to tether.
@jashu: I know exactly what I'm talking about because I tried doing the same thing on my friends G1 with the official RC30 firmware on it.

1. Google hasn't released the entire source code, even they have said that officially on the android site.
2. Google asked HTC to do that.
3. Google is the one that locked down root not T-Mobile. Again this goes back to them not having 1.0 released.

Not only does this convince me you don't know what you're talking about, it also leads me to believe you don't know what you're doing either. Just because you can't figure out the simple instructions to perform socks-based tethering when everyone else already has doesn't mean it is broken.

Just fine on OTA RC30, Vista. I had to use Proxifier as I prefer Chrome to Firefox, but it works just fine. ADB crashes on very high performance downloads, but otherwise its fine.

Duncan, I think you should have another look at what device you have, tmouk devices came out with rc-7 and an ota put them upto 8, so before you start askin questions get your facts right. Also it wasn't tmobile alone that blocked the device being used as a modem it was a joint effort between htc google and tm to promote the use of the open source to its full potential. It also doesn't breach any fair use using the hset as a modem which if it 'wasnt' allowed then you would be breaching the fair use. Ta

Service-provider has messed with Opera and IE

My Hong Kong service provider, CSL, who supplied my HD2, has messed with the Opera and ie apps. They've put in a bar at the top advertising their own website, MyNet, and I can't see how to get rid of it. It takes up about 25% of the screen real estate. Any ideas how they did it and how to get rid of it?

I'd recommend flashing the 1.48 ROM to get rid of that. You'll need to read about Goldcard, but it's currently free, and will allow you install an official HTC ROM.

The official ROM thread is here...

I expect you'll have plenty of questions about this process. Don't be afraid to ask the guys in those threads for help. Just make sure you've read all the posts first, as there's lots of help already out there.
Good luck
This sounds like the same irritating CSL MyNet "service" they tried to provide to me.
If it's the same thing then it's easy to disable.
In addition to the MyNet tab there are two other tabs to the right. The 3rd is "Customer Service". Near the bottom of this tab is a section for "1O1O MyNet setting" which provides an option to disable MyNet toolbar. After you do this you will then get a warning about having to pay for data accessed outside "MyNet" but I think this is nothing special as presumably you have some data plan already. The warning only comes up at the time when you disable the "service".
I don't know whether this is just a coincidence, but once this toolbar was disabled I found that Opera's zoom (which had stopped working properly sometime around when MyNet toolbar first appeared) was working properly again.
BTW I can't see how to re-enable it once it is disabled. (Not that I want to do so, it's just my nature to want to know how to reverse whatever changes I make ...)

CDMA Sprint HTC Hero to Page Plus?

Kinda new here and I've been searching Google for a good hour to no avail.
I have a Sprint HTC Hero with active service through Sprint that I'm looking to switch to a Page Plus phone number (just purchased a pre-activated Page Plus phone from a local gas station). Main goal is to get the Page Plus service working on the Hero with the Page Plus number as the number for it with text and calling functionality.
I've seen a couple threads where people have said that they flashed their CDMA Hero to a Page Plus ROM and have no problem using it. I cannot find a ROM anywhere that says it's strictly for Page Plus which is making me wonder: Can any ROM be used on Page Plus? And if so, does this mean I switch carriers (Sprint to Page Plus) using another method?
Any help or points into the right direction would be greatly appreciated. I know people often get flamed for "not searching before posting" but I would be eternally grateful for any help that any of you could provide me. Thanks!
Did you ever find an answer to this? I want to do the same thing.
Easiest way would be to go to page plus website and see if the phone can be ported over. If the phone is in a contract with Sprint still you probably wont get your number. I know you can get a locked verizon to page plus but i went through, mingo 1st.
From HowardForums concerning Sprint handsets to page plus:
* Sprint (and Sprint MVNO) handsets are by far, the most difficult. All handset are locked, The OTA activation is incompatible. The MMS system (Picture Mail) is incompatible. IMHO, these handsets are more or less for serious hackers only.

change to the spc code to 000000, then manually program the phone.

danknee, I assume that by changing the spc code that during this process you are changing the esn code to the page plus phone's eventually correct?
The reason I ask is I may want to try this eventually on the new Virgin Mobile Beyond Talk plan. If I could get my Hero on there I might just do that. Or once the Evo comes out use the Hero to try putting it on there for my son...
I put a Sprint Samsung Instinct on PP using CDMA workshop. I kind of stumbled though it though. Howardforums is a good resource. I recall having to charge the spc, but definitely not the esn. Also, I had to use CDMA workshop to push a Verizon prl unto the. phone. When registering it with PP, I entered I had some other Samsung branded phone(done online).
I was able to use it as a phone but data & picture mails were not.
Good luck.
Changing the spc is just so you can get the phone to update ota. Same step you rake when flashing to cricket. I've done lots of wm phones to cricket. Mms is by far the biggest pain in the ass. From what I understand people have flashed the hero to cricket with working internet, but apps that use the internet do not work. Also, no mms. You will probably be looking at a similar situation here.
Solution
This is in fact quite simple. I recently did it myself. Google Kitty Wireless, and there is a page for manual programming. Download the PRL from that page, put it on your SD card, and click the phone. Type in ##prl# (Im pretty sure this is right, if not google, update prl) and find the file and update the PRL. This will flash your phone and make it use Verizon towers instead of sprint ones. Now that the easy part is done, use Kitty Wireless' activate page, add your ESN, and your phone is on PagePlus, you need to finish though by finish programming your phone.
Now, install aLogCat, phone, ##data#, veiw mode. Go to aLogCat, hit menu, pause, and scroll up to find the MSL code. Now go back, and instead of hitting view mode, hit edit, and type in the MSL code. This will allow you to finish programming it. Now go onto that manual programming page at kitty wireless and finish what they tell you to do.
Any more questions, Ill check back later and try to help.
HTC Hero(sprint) on pageplus
Data is definitely not working. Its an overkill to use HTC hero on pageplus for txt and voice only. I think the refference to "Serious hacker" earlier means making custom baseband firmware. The changes need to accomodate inputting pageplus settings. Or I wonder if anyone tried to load verizon eris baseband firmware on sprint hero.
A few days ago, I have done for activating my Sprint HTC Hero to PagePlus. I ported my phone number, so I didn't change my phone number but my carrier has been changed.. lol.
I posted the instruction to do it. Here you are.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=789751
Also, I got the information about how to make the phone working for data and MMS. I didn't try it because I don't need data. Wifi is around me mostly. If you need, tell me.
------------ I copied the instruction here ------------
I really appreciate you, TpyoKnig.
Now, FINALLY I activated my Sprint HTC Hero to PagePlus. I don't need to waste money for data plan (at least $30/mo). As TpyoKing helped me to activate it, let me post some information I have done for my Hero, in order to help those who want to activate Sprint HTC Hero to PagePlus. If you have any question, tell me. (I'm not a dealer for pageplus. so please don't give me any money.)
Here are what I've got. (I added my experience.)
1) thing you have to have is root for your phone, if you have that then great! Also you need to be running a NON-Froyo Rom (the froyo roms, I've tested thus far) are lacking EPST which will be used later to program the phone. --> My case, I installed NFX-Hero ROM. After I activated my phone to PagePlus, I'm running CM6 ROM. It works fine now.
2) Search the Market (Via WiFi) and download 'MSL reader'
3) Write down that MSL (will need it later)
4) reboot phone
5) download pageplus.prl from a web and put on root of SD card
6) on your phone pull up the dialer (hit the green button) and put in ##775# (##PRL#) and put in your MSL code you got earlier
7) select "update PRL", drop down "Folder" to "SD Card" and push down on your navigation ball and then long press the "menu" key to make your keyboard lower and select pageplus.prl then select "ok", then press your "menu" key and hit commit modification
8) phone will reboot (Congratulations you'r now on Verizon towers!)
9) Get PagePlus to activate phone (eg, contact a local dealer) , tell them you are manually programming a Sprint phone and give them the IMEI and that you need your MIN/MDN and SID. --> In my case, I purchased pageplus from Kittywireless.com. They promptly provide MIN/MDN and SID.
10) on your phone, pull up the dialer and dial ##YOUR6DIGITALMSL# , then select edit mode
11) change Mobile Directory Number (MDN=your new phone number from pageplus) to what is given to you by PP/dealer
12) change MSID to your MIN (Mobile Identification Number) as suplied by PP/Dealer
12) press menu
13) commit changes
I'm really happy.
It Does Work...
DATA and MMS do work I have a Hero on PagePlus and can do both. In fact I've also helped 3 others do that same .
http://www.bpcr.biz/buddy/Android.zip has instructions (not made by me) and APN backup and restore, and the correct APN file needed for PagePlus MMS. Also has instructions on howto get the data settings correct using QPST.
If you have any questions or need help when doing the process PM me or email me [email protected] and I'll contact you back ASAP
Thanks,
Buddy
Thanks guys, got the data working on pageplus using that tutorial.

No Problem . I made it easy . took me a while to get it all working.
Thanks for the helpful information. I'm having some problems getting my Alltel HTC Hero cdma on Page Plus. If you have time, can you take a look at the question I posted as a thread? It's titled "prl update for page plus on alltel htc hero cdma".
Thanks
i am attempting to change my HTC Hero (Sprint) to PagePlus...does the device has to be already activated with sprint in order to work. (it is currently deactivated no serivce)

no it doesn't that is not a requirement. just follow the directions that I've linked to: http://www.bpcr.biz/buddy/Android.zip
I have a few questions for everyone. I currently have about a year left on my sprint contract. I am willing to buy it out and switch to page plus, but I would like to save money on the phones. With sprint I have 2 HTC Heros. If I can get them to work that would save a bit of $$.
Question about procedure: In the directions (in zip file) it says they are for EVO, will it still work on Hero? Next question, in the directions it says "THIS TUTURAL IS ASSUMING THAT YOU ARE ALREADY BASIC FLASHED!". What does that mean? Is that the basic rom? My Hero is rooted and running CM6. My wife's Hero is stock sprint (1.5 I think).
Question about numbers (if you know...if not no biggie): I want to port my numbers from sprint to page plus.
Thanks in advance for any help!!!

There was supposed to be more to that: I want to port my numbers from sprint to page plus. Should I do the flashing to page plus procedure first, then call page plus and get them to activate it? Or is the flashing procedure something I do after I join page plus? All in all, I want to keep my phone numbers, they might be worth more to me than the phone

Does anyone still have the conversion instructions for Sprint HTC Hero handy? I'm trying to convert my HTC Hero from Sprint to PagePlus but this link does not work any more.

[Q] Initial issues from a WP7 newbie...

Hi everyone... I'm having some initial problems with my new Optimus 7 device and maybe someone more experienced can help me...
1) After 1min of inactivity, my screen goes totally black... and I cannot seem to unlock it! The only way I found is by holding the camera button, which opens the camera app and then the phone is unlocked... but for sure there is a simpler method! When I try to unlock right after it has locked I can do it by "scrolling up", but after it has gone totally black, it does not work anymore... Is this a bug or am I just stupid?
2) I would like to know the MAC address of my phone... I saw a tutorial for the Samsung Omnia 7 using the MFG app, but the MFG app in LG is different, and I cannot find the MAC there... is there a way to discover the MAC of this device?
I'm sure many more questions will come, but that's it for now...
Many thanks!
Leo.
Alright, it is totally understandable that you may have these issues. First of all, in order to take the phone out of standby, you need to press the 'Power' button at the top right of the phone. It may seem too small at first, but you'll get used to it. When you press the button, the screen lights up and you can scroll up to unlock. As you may have discovered, the 'Camera' button also unlocks the device, but that is a feature to quickly take a photo, not to unlock it.
Secondly, have you installed the MFG app on the LG Optimus 7 yet? If not, bring up the dialer, and dial ##634#, wait for the app to install, and then it will be available like any other app in your 'right flick' list. You can even pin it up to the Home screen if you choose to. Then, enter 277634#*# for the password to enter the app. The following is the path you must take:
7. Engineer Menu > 2. Device Test > 8. WIFI Test > 1. Net.Info.
At which point you should be greeted by the Net.Info. screen showing you the MAC address and the IP address of your device.
Hope this helps. Ask any other questions you have here as well. Welcome to the WP7 Club.

Thanks very much! I was going crazy with this lock screen problem... I think they should state this flow more clearly somewhere... anyway, thanks also for the MAC info, I got it also!
For now that's everything! But I'm sure there will be more in the future...
OK, one more small thing that is bothering me...
Does IE (on WP7 of course) has any means to store passwords and auto-complete them? I even looked for some apps, but they didn't seem to integrate with IE...

As of now, IE does not support any plug-ins, ActiveX (thank God), or any of the regular functions you are used to on a desktop browser. However, I believe autocomplete will come soon. For now though, you should upgrade to NoDo, and use a password manager (I use 7Pass, and Passkeeper), and copy username/passwords from there to your browser...

OK, I was afraid of that... unfortunately this didn't come with NoDo (I already have it
It will be a long wait until the next update (Mango, if I remember the name correctly)... it would be very nice if MS would release smaller updates like this more often... this way maybe they could even deploy it faster, since the changes would be small and so would the probability of a grand failure (I guess)
Anyway, one more question came up yesterday: is there any way to show my contacts birthdays on the calendar? I had this same problem on my Nokia... I never understood the reason to have a birthday field on the contacts if they didn't show up on the calendar!
Thanks!
Leo.

Re-installing Windows Phone 7

Hello
I have just installed HSPL 2.08 and MAGLDR 1.13 with wp7.
I installed everything correctly, but i tried to install updates using zune, and now WP7 crashes randomly and sometimes has a hard time starting up.
I would like to re-fllash wp7, but i cant get into the MAGLDR menu to select the USB FLASH MODE option (or something along those lines) In order to flash the WP7 rom, like i did to begin with.
Any help? Going into rgb mode (HSDPL) works, but i cant flash it using this method.

Sounds like you need to start fresh. If so, and I'm understanding your situation, put your HD2 into bootloader mode (power off > hold volume-down button and tap power button wait for red, green whitescreen) and do Task 29. Then reflash magldr in the same bootloader screen after your HD2 reboots. Make sure to follow the same steps for getting into the BL screen. Then you should be able to reflash WP7 with magldr.
I'm not sure, but I don't believe WP7 can be updated in Zune. I believe the only current way of getting an updated WP7 ROM is to start fresh like described above.

you can't update wp7 on the hd2! didn't you see the error msg that no updates were performed? the hd2 roms are not official wp7 roms.
Thanks! I have re-flashed it now, i think the issue was the SD card being incompatible, not the updating of wp7 using zune.
While i am here, does anyone know how i can fix the following issues?
1. I cannot log into or connnect to any services which include facebook and outlook. Well, actually i know it can connect to outlook since the status in the top left said something allong the lines of 'weve found them' but then a message appear saying ' Ooops, We're having a problem connecting you, and all i can do is cancel'
Same goes with facebook. Currently, since my MicroSD card isnt compatible, i have no means of storage, so i cant store any contacts etc, maybe this is the issue? Im sure it wasnt working even with the card in however.
2. The camera seems very bad and doesnt fit the screen. Ive seen that this is an issue, but havent been able to find any threads resolviing the issue. If anyones found one, please could you post a link?
3. The market place, ive found a thread that claims to fix the issue, however i was a bit skeptical since theres been so many people saying you cant
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10566003
Has it really been finally hacked! It would seem so!
Come to think of it, that seems like all! The major issue at the moment is the inability to store anything which i will be sorting out soon.
I have purchased of amazon a 16GB Sandisk sd card, which claims to be class 2.
Please tell me its the right one!!
But so far, comparing WP7 to Energy, its not stacking up! Obviously the energy rom has had alot more development, but i like the way in which you can always know the weather, talk on facebook easily, install loads of apps on omarket.
I think WP7 has the possibility to be great when i have sorted all the issues out, visually, i dont think its as stunning in terms of graphics, but it is alot more simplistic and easy to use, definatley the keyboard is easier!
Anyone happy with this as their primary OS?
Cheers
Also, is there any way of booting into MAGLDR without it automatically starting WP7? Would just making it easier in terms of updating WP7 when i need too.
I currently have the latest version of mango..... i think that seems to be the most developed and worked on.

In the magldr menu. Power on your HD2 from a power off state and hold the red button till the magldr options screen appears. Then at close to the bottom is the "services" option.
Make sure to hold the red button while powering up your HD2.

That's how I feel about this elfinlazz ROM. Though it has a few bugs, they don't effect its speed or stability. And the bugs are not serious nor effect the overall usability.
I plan on keeping this one until a ripe Mango is released with marketplace and Live already configured.
Well after being on the phone for 20 minuites, phone running out of battery then being on the phone for another 20 miniutes ive finally got my phonee activated with windows live services!!!
The funny this is, the man at the main switchboard who put me through the second time, said that they've had 'a high call volume regarding this issue'!!!! Just made me chuckle because its obviously everyone hacking it for their htc hd2's ! You dont need to phone up for activation if you own a genuine product!
By the way, they take your name, tel number and email and thats it, then thhey read out the code to you and send it to your email!

The first time I tried for a code...I did it through chat...they asked me what brand and model phone I had. I didn't lie and told them an HD2. After a minute or two they came back and said they can't give me a code for the HD2 because it isn't an official WP7 phone....or something along those lines. I said okay, thank you and closed the chat. I was going to let it go. Then after about a day I decided to call again and see what would happen; if I would get a different person. I did get a different person, and they only asked me for my name and phone number...don't recall if they asked for an email. Once I gave them my name and number, they welcomed me back...LOL. I was about to hang up but nothing came of it and after a few minutes, they came back with a code.
And from what I understand, the code is permanent for that phone. I suppose that means it will work on any WP7 ROM on that specific phone, which is good because I plan to upgrade to a ripe Mango when available.
Yea its pretty stupid how they will just hand out the codes, whats the point in even having activation AT ALL??
Im guessing the code will be locked into your windows live ID, so you can only sign in with that acccount. Would make sence, because then you can only use it on one person.

Not really. I tried to use my Live ID I have with my Samsung Focus and it worked okay and all, but I couldn't install any apps because it saw them already installed on another device. I then made a new Live ID and reset my HD2 and and signed in with that new Live ID. It went well and I could install apps from then on. But it means that the apps I've bought with my original Live ID will have to be bought again.
Maybe there is a bug in Live, I don't know, because Zune says you can have up to 5 devices on one account. But when I bought my HD7, I replaced it 3 times till I got one not faulty. When I tried to install an app on my HD2 with the original Live ID, it popped up a message saying I already have 5 devices activated and I need to delete them before I can use another. I then tried to delete the false ones but it will only allow you to delete one phone a month. I could only delete one, but it still wouldn't let me install apps.
See...the thing I think is the issue is that Windows Live doesn't communicate very well with other services or features. Example: In Gmail, if I make a change to a contact, immediately that change shows up on the Android phone. In Live, if I make a change to a contact, that change rarely ever appears on the phone. I think this is what the issue is between Live and Zune. They just aren't communicating well.
