thats because it aint a step counter
it just detects when the phone is shaken UP and DOWN
To prove it, hold the phone with step counter enabled in your hand upright and shake it upwards and downwards

Battery problems bit serious

Few days back my battery suddenly got drained that too when I was sleeping. It was something around 35% before sleeping and it was fully drained by the morning.
This thing happened again but that time I fortunately got awake and charged it till 60% and again in next 2 hrs (when I was sleeping) it lost 20% of battery. Will try 2 attach this incidence pics.
In 3rd incidence I charged my battery fully and suddenly my phone got heated up and got switched off. Even after pressing switching on button it didn't start than I removed the battery and reinserted it. And than it got switched on automatically (without pressing the switch on button), at that time my battery got drained by 15% without any use.
What might b the reason for it? Even my cousin is facing similar prob.
Plz help
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Pic will tell u how fast it got drained when my use was minimum. usually I lost 5 to 7 % of battery when sleep
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
this happens when you flash the ROMS quite often without calibrating the battery. First wipe the batterystats and let the battery drain completely and follow the procedure mentioned below:
1. try to calibrate the battery by switching off phone and plug the charger in, till it completes 100%. Once it gives the signal of 100%, then immediately remove the battery and wait for 5 mins and then reinsert the battery and power on(Entropy Method)
Sorry my friend... after going through your pic, I found there is a ANDROID OS bug. Try to flash the new firmware from sammobile or from the XDA forum (Example PDA: KJ3 and modem XXKI4). This will resolve your problem!
What rom are you using? I had a similar issue using gingermod and the cook said the oc was to mutch for me so I deleted ocdaemon and two weeks later still no problems.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Can the overheating while charging caused by this?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
We need to know what rom your using. What apps are always syncing. More details please. Also download BBS (betterbatterystats) and look for wakelocks that could be stopping the phone from entering deep sleep
Weekday is the meaning of ROM, calibrating battery?

frnds plz reply. After reading that I have OS bug m getting tensed. For information (i don't know whether it is useful) my phone is not rooted.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
^ No need to worry. The OS bug is something that does exist, although often people look at a screenshot and give a false positive diagnosis, based on a small sampling. We need to know how much cpu time your things have on that graph, so do another screenshot but take screen shots of the values of each line, for example we need to see your details for screen on time, android os, the top 3-4 items really.
Next thing, like somebody said, dl better battery stats. It's a good app made by a clever chap on these forums. Charge the phone up and do what you do. When the battery is starting to be close to finished, take a screenshot from within the app for "partial wakelocks" The list can be long so sometimes you will need a few shots, as you scroll down the list.
Rule of thumb. Battery killers should float to the top of that list. High time (min/sec) and high count are equal culprits. Example, one thing may wakelock your phone for 15 minutes, in a single event, another thing may wakelock you for a total of 3 minutes, but occurring in a thousand split second events. Imagine waking up every minute, for a second then sleeping again. If you were a battery doing this you would drain quickly too!
If your wakelocks are low and display time is low, your battery is either not calibrated (instructions a few posts up) maybe changing ROM and kernel could help, but now we are approaching the possibility that your battery might be defective and a warranty swap could be in order.
Thanks for the reply.
Here are few pics of top 5 items on that list.
Although der was sudden fall in battery but it was due 2 my use

From your screenshots, I could see that, google backup transport may be the reaason for battery drain. Go to settings->privacy-> disable the backup and restore and then see if it make any difference!
Thanks a lot.

can i upload the pics immediately from BBS app? i mean will it show the proper records? or should i wait till it get drained out?

Bigger Battery

S3 really need bigger battery..custom rom, custom kernel, supercharged, still can't handle the drain while using it.. idle, perfect, 1%/4hours drop. But once u touch, scroll, open close app, browsing in 10 minutes, >10% drop..should have 2500mah like note..
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
lol 10 min browsing more than 10% drain..it`s too much i get like 2%drain for 10 min browsing

There is some app that drains your battery. I can easily get 5:30 on screen time with omega. I've seen others doing better. This phone has an excellent battery life, if you know how to avoid apps with bad code that drain your battery. Download better battery stats and monitor your usage. You will find the problem.

Is that custom Rom by any chance CM9?
There are larger batteries out there with twice the original's charge. They are twice the size though and make the phone really fat.
As said above, something is draining your battery. Supercharging is really bad for the battery's life btw.

V6 supercharger bad for battery life..? Hmm.. this custom rom & kernsl is by wanam.. v6 supercharger make the ram management better, hence increase battery life..the ideal is good for me. Just the cpu i need more advance control..but custom kernel out there still not bug free..

I find it the opposite. Very good in use not very good in idle. Mine last 5.5 - 6 hours screen on time on 3g. The idle drain however is worse than any other android device I used in the past.

It also makes it impossible to use NFC as the batteries don't have the antenna. Got an extended battery from ebay, works brilliantly power wise, 70% power still there after full day of use but no NFC....

It's probably a safety net feature. To avoid complete meltdown. Charging heats up the phone too.

Yes it might be but it is really weird cause when it stops charging, it doesn't resume once the phone has cooled down. You have to unplug and replug.
Which isn't very helpful.
Btw totally stock.

That's happened to me when play in summer and just use the fan. Checking the cpu temp shouldn't clock past 50 degrees or it gets pretty bad. I usually just place it in the fan, then on the air conditioner for a minute or two and usually keep the cpu status app open to watch the drop in temperature. Atleast Nexus keeps this safety throttle, S4 would probably give you a nice bacon house.

Well if the cpu heats up so will the battery both are working hand in hand. It's like your engine is hot and so will your spark plug be. For the safety of the parts and since lithium ion batteries are dangerous when overheated, it's a safety net.

Haha. Thanks I am Greek not Russian
The two screenshots just show how the one in the higher temp is still charging and a few minutes later it stopped and the other one with the low temp says that battery is overheated, AC connected but not charging.
The guru app I think it helps a bit as about 5%, but no more than that.

How many battery cycles needed

Since I bought my phone I havnt had a battery cycle. I think it means I need to drain and charge it to full.
Battery life seems to be decreasing so my question it how many battery cycles are required and they all should be one after the other?
Edit: I'm very sorry I should have posted it in q&a. Mods please move this thread.
Sent from Galaxy Note 3 SM-9005
You need to do 1400 full cycles while upside down and riding a unicycle or your battery will never perform at full. You might get 97.333333recurring percent but never 100 percent.
Or you can just use it normally and not worry since it makes no difference under normal circumstances

the thing is also that you are using a Exynos device with Octa Core Processor. i dont know the difference between battery life by that since i have the qualcomm based phone. it may use a lot more power i think (correct me if im wrong because i never used a octa core phone). i do have a extra battery as well so that im full charged for the whole day. so i dont really need to worry about battery for my daily usage. and the phone and battery were purchased last year when the phone got released here in the philippines. :good:

Hi mate,
The only way to know for sure what is going on your phone is to use an app like BBS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
Let it run for a few hours and check the logs for wakelocks , works better if you are root but it will work also in nonroot devices

The screens you are posting give little details.
My guess is that your battery is wearing out and you should try a new one.
