S4 Network Unlock Not Accepted Fix:
So I've been around here for a while, been an avid user on xda for a long time but never made an account or even posted a thread for that matter but I saw this problem happening A LOT around here and on other forums and what-not so thought I should help:
I noticed that some people get there network unlock code at find that the phone doesn't accept it, reads unsuccessful. So most would figure the code is wrong but its not.
Before unlocking my S4 I played with the service mode settings trying to unlock it for free like we did with the Note 2 and S3 (search for the guide around here) of course I turned OFF the "Perso SHA256 OFF" It of course didn't work so figured time to pay up! After buying the code and putting it in it right away got denied, which was strange cause usually it does a pause for second and then gives the result.
before that, I upgraded the phone with the first upgrade with telus OTA that rolled out in july (I337MVLUAMG1) and noticed that access to the service menu was gone for good. no matter which dial-er service code I enter (*#0011# is just one of them) i could not get into the UMTS Debug Screen to turn back on the network.
I figured that the fact i turned off the Perso SHA256 before the OTAU I turned off something that is used to require the network unlock successfully.
Basically what I am saying is go to sammobile.com, find the oldest firmware your network has (for telus that would be I337MVLUAMDJ), flash it with ODIN and you can get back to the service menu using *#0011#.
Turn back on "PERSO SHA256 ON" make sure it says "PERSO SHA256 ON> NOT CHANGED" then reset the device, and type the network unlock again and it will work perfectly.
Hope this helped some people help I was going nuts for 3 days.
This has been known for a while and has been mentioned many times already in the various "unlock" threads including the main "unlock for free" thread. However, turning Perso SHA256 back "ON" only works for some people. Some people that have done so (or have reported to do so) have still had trouble and needed to USB unlock to resolve the issue.
Again, thanks for the post, because a lot of people, unfortunately, don't read was is already available and maybe this will help them.

Hello this is my first post. Just wanted to say hi.
Well I have an unlocked G1 running on AT&T and I was wondering how are we suppose to get updates if they are OTA and I assume you would need t-mobile for that.
Is there a way to manually do it? Is there someway to download it directly to the phone from a source?
Thanks alot.
I sure wish I had that t-mobile SIM that I had. I assume it wont work if it is canceled right?
I have a feeling people who have them unlocked are going to get screwed and have security holes up the wazzoo...
i have talked to tmobile multiple times about this. no one seems to know the answer. I have a t-mobile sim card in my phone right now just to see if it will update. the card is the one that came with the phone, show it shows the t-mobile service, it just will not let me call or anything. I am hoping that it will update this way then I can put my att card back in. I will probably leave the t-mobile in every night while I sleep and the phone charges just to see if it will actually work. I will keep you guys posted as to if it works or not.
I have yet to get my OTA update and I am on T-mobile. I was going to unlock my phone, and I have a question. Does your G1 work ok with data on AT&T market and all? plz let me know I have someone that is tempted to buy one at full retail and just take mine after I have it unlocked.
Thanks
it would seem to me that legally, they have to provide the patch at some point due to the GPL... it also must be provided free of charge..
when they offer it is a different story, but legally, anyone who has it, who share it (if they knew where it was cached) with no legal issues
Only Google doesn't use the GPL.
But yes, that's true. The source for everything that's free-and-open (we know there are parts of the OS that aren't) should be made available. Whether or not (and/or when) they offer the update as a binary is anybody's guess, like most things with the G1/Android.
maybe the evil FSF will get involved!?

The info is also posted on this forum/site under the development area... sorry I don't have a link handy.

did we ever find out if OTA updates get pushed to G1's on other carriers automatically?
The will be pushed to all G1's on a data connection. I repeat ALL G1's on a DATA connection.
I am on AT&T and just got the OTA update yesterday morning. I found this instruction on the internet (could have been sticky from this site) on how to get OTA update the original way.
I download Anycut from app store, create a shortcut for Device info, scroll all the way down and click on download button. Your G1 will call home and it'll appears that nothing else is happening on the screen.
I did this around 9pm Sunday morning, leave my wifi on, phone plugged in for charging and when I woke up my G1 greeted me with new firmware update screen (RC30).
Few issues that I found:
Home and call button are not responding (nothing happen when pressed) and I had to do a system restore to fix it. G1 security screen stop working even after turning security on and off - system restore fixed this. The Built in IM stop working when trying to connect via AT&T Edge, it complain that IM program can't read my phone number off SIM card - WIFI + IM client works without any problems.

Noting that those are are all symptoms of a Setup Wizard call that ended badly somehow.
The guy who discovered this first:
http://inportb.com/2008/11/28/disabling-the-screen-lock-on-android/
I discovered it accidentally, by playing with Any Cut a little bit too much. Heh.
Ah... I see my experience with Setup Wizard funkiness is not an isolated case. At any rate, I did not have to perform a factory reset, as re-running Setup Wizard resolved the issue.
I have the most perfect running Hero on Damage Controls 2.08.1 rom. Last night I plugged it in for charging and this morning when I unlocked the phone I was greeted by "Error Code 67 - Registration Failure - PCS Vision user name or password is incorrect". I didn't change a thing. The phone half of the device still works but the data half has quit. What happened?? Anyone else have this problem?
Love some help.........
Thanks for your time........

Have you tried any of the following:
1. Reboot?
2. Update Profile in Settings->About Phone->System Updates
I received that error when attempting to USB tether.
Let us know what you find.
toggle airplane mode on off
Yes I tried to shut the phone down and rebooted and then I shut the phone down and took the battery out, put it all back together and rebooted and same thing. I just followed you directions and tried to update profile and while I have done this one thing in the past and it has taken some time, this time it was a five second check and dumped right back with the code 67 again. It's definitely not seeing the data information.
Plus it said "profile could not be updated - call customer service with code: 1012

I've received that before and it sort of fixed itself over the course of the day. Have you tried the Airplane mode on-off?
Could just be a Sprint thing, and not necessarily something on your end.
I just tried toggling the airplane mode on and off and then on again and still the same problem...........
If I have to call Sprint, what software do I tell them I'm running?
I would hate to go back to 1.5 to get this worked on.........

Like I said, try waiting it out for a little bit. If Sprint asks tell them 2.1 (just don't mention its not the official one!)
Plus from all my reading don't do the new OTA update either.............
I hope running DC would prevent them from running something on my phone in the background. I really love my phone the way it is - when it's working of course...
How's this for weird gentlemen? I activated my wifi to just check the device as I have that in my home. The device worked fine and had internet access and did it's thing via wifi. I decided to do the "Update Profile in Settings->About Phone->System Updates" and it worked through that method. Apparently I just needed to up date my profile. The Hero is back working perfectly like it always has.
This was a scare for me as this Hero works so well on DC compared to the horror stories I have read about official stuff. But thank you guys a million for your help and I owe you all a beer..........
Thanks so much........

While it is odd, sometimes phones just love to test our patience and knowledge. I always remind myself it is just a phone.
Firstly, I have searched the forums but, unfortunately, most references to locks are sim locking. I would be grateful if someone would kindly direct me to a relevant posting if this is a common problem.
My HD2 will not unlock at present. I turned it off last night (was sluggish) and in the morning the slide lock and keyboard appeared as normal but after entering the code, there is no response from the unlock button - it highlights but doesn't unlock the phone, no error messages or other information.
The phone is an O2 released model, with stock rom and no additional unlock programmes. It has been getting increasingly sluggish and I have been resetting it most days, it seems to be related to the number of text messages sat (read) in the inbox - my Exec was similar.
The phone connects to Activesync and I can access it through the computer so tweaking files is a possibility. Is there any solution other than a hard reset?
Thank you,
Andrew
Have you tried removing the battery
Colinm,
Thank you for your reply. I should have said that I had tried soft-resetting enough times to make the watchdog's head spin and removed the battery about half a dozen times as well.
In the end I gave up and backed it up through SPB from the computer and flashed the ROM. All appears to be well now.
Thank you,
Andrew
glad its sorted
OK guys need some help, my network provider has a deal with another company so I can use both companies masts. problem with that is I constantly get the message about roaming come up on screen. I'm not worried about roaming since its all included in my package its just really annoying.
anyway to turn it off ?. I have ploughed through the forum and googled but cant find anything
I had the same issue as you. My search came up with nothing but as I was creating a new thread, this thread showed up along with this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=356855. I checked the registry setting in that thread and it was set to 0 (off) but I was still getting the message. Annoyed by this I did a search on the entire registry for "roam", found this setting "HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\ShowRoamingMessage" and changed it to 0. After a couple of soft reset which is a known instance where I would get the message, it has not shown up. Keeping my fingers crossed it did not screw something else up or else I will have to do my first Hard Reset for a registry F.U.B.A.R.
I am not very knowlegable about this stuff by any means so proceed at your own risk, just sharing what I stumbled upon.
Hi guys,
Today, after having my SGS I9000 for about three months, I ran into a very, very, frustrating problem.
All of a sudden, after I turned my phone off and on, it asked me for a SIM unlock code. I did not buy the phone from a provider. I bought it in Asia, independent from a carrier.
Why now? After a few months of working without any hitches, this happens.
After I dug around for some information, I tried rooting the phone so I could get an unlock code using an app. However, the three button method to get to the recovery mode doesn't seem to work with my phone.
This is truly a pain and I really don't know what to do. Can anybody give me some tips?
if the 3 button combo dont work, you will have to do the 3 button fix, you can do this by booting into download mode via ADB (android debug bridge) and then when you have fixed the 3 button combo, you can then root and install the app that removes the network lock.
I have no idea why that happened, normally when network lock is off it stays off.
Have you done anything to the phone that may of caused this ??
Anyway i know its quite a mission you have got to do, but when its done, try to make a nandroid backup for future references, or if the app gives you a code (i have never used it) keep a copy incase it happens again.

I don't think this has anything to with the network specific sim as u have said u bought it independent of carrier..Just contact ur network provider and they will give u the sim unlock code
After than go to settings and "Location and Security" and disable sim lock option
Hope it helps

Thanks for the replies, guys.
Yes, it is indeed strange that it suddenly popped up. It was working extremely fine before that and everything just went downhill!
I'm not sure if I did anything to the phone that may have caused it...I rarely download things and only use the phone to make calls/text/surf the web.
Doing all the necessary fixes seem to take quite a bit of time and from how busy I am these days, I won't be able to invest in doing it myself.
I am thinking of getting it unlocked professionally at a shop.
And I highly doubt it is an actual SIM code from my provider. I'm under Fido and I've tried most of the default codes and they do not work.
