Hello all!
I have started having some strange wifi issues with my S4.
It seems different to the "usual" WIFI problem others are having. In their case their wifi keeps not turning on, dropping out etc.
In my case, my wifi is working and the phone keeps being connected to the WIFI; it shows up in the router devices list, i can 192.168.1.XXX the router form the S4, but there is no internet connection...
This started with the MGA firmware, and it happens when I come back home, and the phone logs back into the wifi network. Meanwhile an ipad is connected to the same WIFI net and is happily working without interruptions, which makes me believe the fault is with the S4..
After a half hour or so, the S4 suddenly is happily accessing the internet again.
I even flashed the wifi fix patch but no help....
I have a suspicion it might be a dhcp issue, but I've set the routers to assign the same ip to the S4 everytime.
Any ideas?

My WiFi on the Atrix crashed all my 3 routers (ActionTec/Dlink/Linksys), sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes after several hours.
The routers needed restart after that. Also wired connections were affected.
I tried messing with static IPs and sleep mode, nothing worked!
Now I upgraded my Dlink DIR 655 from 1.11 to 1.33 (supposedly the best).
Things changed
Now my Atrix takes only itself down, the Dlink keeps working for other wireless and wired devices.
The Atrix says its connected and I get the icon with full bars, however no data is transferred. The market and other apps say network error.
I can switch connection over to my other WIfi network and all is good again.
Has anyone seen this behaviour?
Also is there an app that shows me the link mode G or N and the current link speed? I cant seem to find a good app. I would also like to see if I can lock the Atrix to G or N only. Is there such a toggle switch?
Thanks.
Update: Switched connection from Dlink to Linksys and it worked for about 30 minutes then the linkksys crashed (could not reconnect got no IP). Switched back to the Dlink, got connected, good signal but no data. Even after a phone reboot. So I think it might be still on the DLink side although I have Netflix (PS3 wireless) and another PC connecting fine. This and the VOIP mic problems (Skype etc...) bug me the most about the phone.
ive been having this same problem since i got my phone and im still having problems. its pissing me off. cant even use my netflix through the Wii to watch on the big screen
spacev and trapjawmusic, who is your internet provider? I have a POTS+DSL line + WRT54GS and never encountered this problem.

Since a few days I am experiencing a very strange issue when I connect my S4 to my parents' wireless network.
Until a few days ago everything worked perfectly. My other devices still works properly and my phone worked as expected in my home network.
Now, at my parents' place, as soon as I connect my device to the network it becomes nearly unusable. For instance, pinging Google drops from 50ms to up to 2s. As soon as I disconnect my S4 the ping gets back to 50ms.
My S4 is updated with the latest firmware available. And my wireless router is a USR9108 configured with WPA2/WPA (PSK) TKIP/AES encryption.
Do you have any idea of what may be the cause of this problem?
I think it is something related to the configuration of the phone and the configuration of the router, but since it appeared suddenly and since it used to work as expected I am quite lost.
At home I have a 2.4ghz and 5ghz Wifi network setup.
My S4 is always connected to the 5ghz and has never had any problems. My partners iDevices are also connected to it.
The other day when I got home I noticed that I kept getting the error 'Your internet connection is unstable' and couldn't use the 5ghz if I wasn't directly in front of the router. No settings had changed, no updates etc. It will discover and connect to the network but it won't load webpages or anything.
There is no new firmware for my router, I have tried all the different channels, and have even reset the router, and as a temporary fix I've only been using the 2.4ghz network. My iPad still works fine on the 5ghz anywhere in the house, and my partner has had no issues.
Has anyone else had this problem, or does anyone have a solution?
I'm running the stock 4.3 on the phone as I haven't even tried flashing it.

did you changed some wifi settings on your phone ??
cos if that happens you have to match the settings same both on pc{ of router } and phone
even if you are sure that you haven't changed anything just make sure and check the settings again
After the upgrade to Lollipop on my Yoga 2 830, I'm noticing that the wifi gets no internet access even while connected every so often. I have to turn off and turn back on the wifi for it to reconnect. Is anyone else having this issue? I don't have any issues w/ any of my other devices connected to wifi.
I'm not on static IP, no issues with the router. I didn't have any issues on kitkat. Please share if you also have this issue. Thanks.

Hello!
Did you try connecting your device to another wifi network to see if the problem persists?
I have noticed something similar happening with my Xperia Z ultra after it upgraded to lollipop. I realised that it was happening only on the older wifi routers (I use an ancient Linksys WRT54G), but seems to have no problem with the newer ones.
Changing the channel of your wifi router might help alleviate the problem. I am not certain if it would work in your case, but if you do not have another router handy, this just might do the trick. If you are looking to change the channel, an easy guide is available here.
I hope this helps
I've got a Netgear AC1900 nighthawk with a netgear ex6200 range extender. The tablet is primarily connected to the 5ghz band on the nighthawk. I do have other routers but they are older. I might have to try to take it to work and see if I lose internet access.
I've changed the bands around and it does help. I've rebooted the router, rebooted the tablet, forgotten the wifi and so on. It's still happening after some time. By the looks of it, there are others that have experienced this on other devices. I haven't done a factory reset. I would prefer not have to go through the setup again.
Hi everyone!
Recently, I bought my mother a Galaxy Tab A 8-inch device (Model Number SM-T350) and it theres an issue where the device seems to be connected to her Wifi network, but after a while, she is not able to browse the internet or use Viber. The Wifi Network shows connected. But after a specific time, when she needs to use Viber, she cannot connect to the internet even though the network is connected to her Wifi network.
Its not only Viber, but she cannot browse the internet using Firefox or the native browser.
The only way to resolve this is by turning ON/OFF the Wifi.
We tried a number of things like Setting the Sleep options to Never disconnect from Wifi, resetting the router, and so forth...
I tried updating the device but it seems like that this unit only goes up to Android 6.0..1. There is no security software that I know of installed on the device either. I checked the router settings as well and all devices going through that router are not Blacklisted. So all devices can pass or connect to the network. No MAC address filtering turned ON, it is OFF. But these settings are irrelevant to the issue in question, as the device Wifi shows status as Connected...
This is quite a "PITTY" situation as her Viber contacts cannot even call her either because of this issue.
To recap or to sum it up on the issue, is that after a while the internet does not seem to work on the device even though its connected to her Wifi network.
My mother does not have any other devices at her home.
I wonder if this is an Android bug or there is an issue with our router?
The router in question is a Cisco WRVS4400N if this helps.
Thanks
Bump. I have the same issue with my Tab A 6.

How old is there router
I have a similar problem with the Samsung Galaxy tablet a. My version is SM-T350. When I 1st got it a few years ago, everything worked great and I was able to connect to the Wi-Fi no problem. However, I believe that was after an update, the tab A will no longer connect to the Internet in less it is sitting right next to the router. Even this can be sketchy. It has to be within 2" to connect. I don't think it has anything to do with the router, but something with the internal Wi-Fi. I was thinking before when I wouldn't be able to connect it I had to select WEP instead of WPA
