Just wanted to say hi really. Ive jusr upgraded from the HTC Desire/Bravo which I had rooted and moded so after a while I'll probably do the same to this.
Any suggestions/hints/tips you have for me as a first time Samsung user with this phone?

If you're already rooted, please please please BACKUP your EFS. Use this tool (EFS Professional). Only after that backup you'll be safe to completely hack your phone away. Place that backup in a safe location, like dropbox. Cheers!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896696 just give a read in this thread and you are good to go
This is one great device and I was kinda sceptical at first with all the newer a15 processor devices out but hell this bad packs a huge punch and it's pretty snappy to me!
All you need to know is in the sticky notes under the developmental area.
I use a prerooted stock odexed myself which seems to give me a faster but longer battery life than all the others I have tried. Just need to delete some unwanted bloatware is all!

There is an aweful lot of bloat ware, it's the only issue I have with the device so far.
I tested the battery today streaming HD video, heavy browsing and not letting the screen go off for long. The device lasted about 6 hours on some serious usage.

I've just found a fantastic new app' that works brilliantly on the Note.
It's called 'Screencast Video Recorder' and basically it makes a video of your Android screen as you use the phone. So you can set it to record and then navigate through menus or applications, games etc and it records it all as an MP4 video. Really useful for those wanting to do demos of their system or showing off their prowess in games.
And the good news is that it's now just 99p on the Marketplace.
I've no connection whatsoever to the app', the developer etc but just thought it was a fantastic and very clever app' worth sharing with fellow Note owners.
Enjoy.

I bought this app a few days ago for about £3
The app is excellent though and the audio is crystal clear using the Note.
Does anyone know what would be the ideal settings to use on our Note's as when I use it, the phone does tend to get very hot.
I have attached a screen shot of the results of the benchmark using the app :
Just a quick note, you need root for Screencast Video Recorder to work
Hasc - I get a benchmark of 86400. I've managed to up the framerate to 30 fps without any issues.
p.s. Don't forget the 'Thanks' button if you like the recommendation. ;-)

You can use it to do reviews of apps
You can reproduce errors that you may encounter with your device
You can help other users by demonstrating functions or steps to do something on device
You can show others how to get 3 stars in angry birds

Yes it's great....
I learned about it a couple of months ago when still on the sgs...
Perhaps you can start another thread about all kind of great apps tips
"Great apps thread" or something like this
I just wanted to give my opinion about rooting, I'm sure a lot of people like to do so, but on this device I don't think that you need to, I did a root on my .gs1 because of lag, then my arc needed more then root lol but my sgs 3 so far the best phone that I ever seen, not perfect, but as for lag, battery life, speed its top!
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
There a a ton of reasons to root besides lag.
I have an app that requires root that keeps my clock in sync with the actual atomic clock time. The system clock will, over time, be too fast or too slow which means that eventually my phone is a few minutes off.
I have an app that requires root that is used to freeze/quarantine bloatware.
I have an app that requires root that allows me to backup not only my applications, but the application data as well.
I also enjoy root for custom ROMs and kernels that have less lag/stutter than the phone normally does (and yes, this still applies to the Samsung Galaxy S3).
There are always reasons to root.
I understand, I'm not saying not too, for me if the phone is good I'm leaving it stock
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Root no >> then no Nandroid and No TB no Ad Blocker . No push apps .
jje
Rooting has absolutely nothing to do with reducing lag or anything at all performance wise.
Rooting just gives you superuser permissions on your device.
Even if you are running an octo core phone with 5gb of ddr3 ram, rooting still offers benefits.

I fail to see the reason for this topic.
You choose not to root your phone and seem to have no idea what rooting actually means.

I rooted because the T-Mobile not sound was annoying. Without root, I couldn't get rid of it. Also ad block needed to be done.

Galaxy Phones are hard to hardbrick (not revivable through simple software and/or a 2$ USB-Jig)
By following the instructions in the General section ('following' meaning 'reading', not 'assuming' or 'trying') you're on a quick and painless root.

3 weeks ago, i walked into my fav store JB Hi FI, as i was browsing through the store i noticed in the corner of my eye something so beautiful and sexy, i walked up to this wonderful girl and said excuse me i dont mean to be upfront or rude but can you please move your ass cause your blocking the view of the samsung galaxy s3 i am trying to woo. she obliged and walked away. i then finally got my hands around the phone and oh my goodness, that moment was the best moment i have ever had, so i forked out $770 dollars and paid for the beautiful device, then went home with a big smile on my face to see my wife with a big angry look saying ' i just checked the account, you son of a ***** how could you spend $770 on a stupid phone, what are you stupid, that moment i felt in JB HI Fi has gone forever and it will never come back

Hi there Fellow N7100 Note II Users
Since theres no rom this thread will be in general
I'm trying to port the 4.2.1 from SGS III
About the SDS you don't need to worry I'm using a secure kernel
but if your interested in help porting you can PM me!
So whats the progress?
So far it boots to the boot screen and there it stops.
i figured out i've missed some few things so i'll be fixing those later!
Once again if your interested in help porting give your time to reply and tell me what you can do
Best Regards LSD
EDIT: attached SGS III boot.img (http://www.mediafire.com/edit/?1nc7vr5ln6uy2hk)
EDIT: attached SGNII boot.img http://www.mediafire.com/?me2emfnsn0mgqd0
Also heres 3 "unpacked boot images"
Boot_NII is obviously extracted files from our Note II
Boot_SGSIII is obviously from leaked SGS III kernel
BOOT-EXTRACTED is from My Modified NII Kernel
i'm sure i've forgotten something but yet i'm not sure must read logcat more closely !

some changes was made in samsung boot.img
but that didn't seem to make it, maybe i need a kernel which works with JellyBean 4.2?
Hmm seems like i used old kernel instead of using the modified kernel. maybe thats why it didn't boot so far .
Did any of the custom kernels needed to be modified to work under 4.2.1?

You are actually right. We won't feel much of a difference. It is too big a project. Samsung will release 4.2.2 sooner or later so there is no point. But i am idle due to summer holidays so nothing bad in challenging myself.

Yeah, but it should have at least one or two pros at least to be worthy of such an effort? Because essentially 4.2.1 on N2 is much more feature rich than S3, from what I gather. And you'd miss out on some N2 features as well.
I would like to test the rom if you are after testers when you have something working ^_^

well i modified bootclasspath but it seems to be something else that might be missing, maybe wrong permissions etc, or lack of files. can't really say now i'm trying to make it boot but seems like i've missed something in boot image or i've missed some files sadly when i used some other files it didn't go past the samsung galaxy note II splash screen. but i'll look into it. i think its kernel related, and yet i can't fix that now since i got to restore my phone so i can make my flashable zip tested. or i can but i need to take my time for that.
i neither don't know if anything have changed in 4.1>4.2 if there's something thats need to be added but i think it shouldn't be any big problem
