Is there an official cyanogenmod for i9500 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I jumped over to get.cm and i couldn't find cyanogenmod for my device.
Can someone please tell me the codename i need to look for?

Unfortunately there is no official cm for i9500
Of course, there is this, but I wouldn't recommend it if your looking for a daily driver.

your device is exynos based, and thus closed source
you will not ever ever find an official release for this device (unless by some magic samsung releases the code)

Really?
Is this the only galaxy device that is closed source or there are others like the gs 4 which samsung didnt released the code for them?

There is development of CM by official CM programmers on CM for the i9500
The code is in a rough state now as development recently started.

They were able to utiliz the the octa core cpu as intended by samsung? Pretty groundbreaking if so.
I was under the impression that the cm for 9500 was using very generic drivers for the cpu
Thus making it very poorly optimized
But yeah it boots just fine

Duh, it is only the 2nd alpha, hence I mentioned it in my post... It will be a couple weeks before everything gets ironed out but considering the first CM was released on Monday and the only major glitch 4 days later is the cam I'd say they did a pretty good job...
But don't take my word for it. Good look at the bench marks.....

The funny part was you thinking an incomplete rom without camera blows TW out the water.
It's a ridiculous statement.
It's just like me saying my porshe without engine is better than your working Volvo.
I just said it was funny. No need to get defensive

Not all i9505 owners boast about having better open source support etc. I for one am still running stock firmware and I'm happy enough, and will remain so until 4.3 is released. I don't think it is necessary to split the camp between i9500 and i9505, and certainly no need to have childish squabbles.

Amen Bro ! Thats why I love this site so much. It doesn't really matter what T-Mobile does so its kind of a pointless conversation. I would't really even take the KIES update or OTA update from T-Mobile anyways. I will wait untill someone here gets a good stable JB Release. I am reluctant to change because my ICS rom is so smooth and stable but I know within a few months it will be worth it. It's like a slap in the face to the slow and bloated T-Mo. Rom.

I wouldn't do a kies update either. My hope is for Samsung to release source so that the devs here have more to work with. That was what dogged the vibrant. They eventually released Froyo for it, but nothing further. The GB/ICS/JB releases for it were all ported from either the i9000 or the Nexus S, and had to be tweaked since there was no actual source to work with for the vibrant itself. That's why the GPS was so spotty on it on any version of android after Froyo. I'm glad that my insurance replacement for my busted Vibrant was the Hercules, which is still in the window of time (was it 18 months?) that they pledged to support upgrades to android. Whether we actually see it is another story. At least the devs here really kick some butt on the ROMs they release.

Google edition i9505

Does anyone know when we might get the firmware for the i9505 google edition? I'm sure there is much talk about being able to flash this on a regular i9505. I would like to see this used as a better base for all aosp roms in the future. Do you think we have to wait until the 26th release of the device or will we get a leak?

Indeed. But given that it generally happens to Nexus devices, there is no reason to believe this won't happen to the Nexus edition of the S4 eventually. The binaries for the Nexus 4 were released in March for example and it now has full AOSP support.

I would hope, seeing that this was announced at Google io, and it will get regular updates just like nexus devices, Google is going to be in charge of software for this endeavor. Do they? How much of the device is actually Samsung hardware that requires Samsung drivers? It's a Qualcomm device. Other than drivers for the bespoke Samsung features like Air View/Gesture and Smart Scroll etc (which Google won't be using anyway) I can't think of anything Google need off Samsung. This is exactly why making AOKP and CM roms has been so easy for the device. The first guy who created a CM rom did it without even owning one .

What do you think about the new android version. In my opinion, it's great , with better UI( if the leaked photos are true) , less RAM usage and new kernel. What do you think about the S2? Will Samsung update our phone ? In my opinion Samsung will not update the S2 or the Galaxy Ace or Mini...

Huh I find no issue with 4.2.2, its the best thing yet! We have spent so much time optimzing 4.2.2 that it is so stable and usable. Fast forward to 4.3 which is much newer we have spent much less time on it so for sure it is not as good. However I dont understand which part of either these versions, 4.2.2 or 4.3 is bloated care explaining? Even if Android 4.4 has so called less RAM usage and kernel improvements it would not really matter to us. Take kernel changes for example. We can't just port AOSP code and use it for our devices correct? Remember the time when we only had official 4.0 and 4.1 was released by Google. Everybody wanted Project butter. Due to Sammy not giving us official 4.1 and its source code on time (thank god they actually gave the source code..) we would never have gotten close to full project butter experience which we still lack fully. So if Sammy does not give us what we need then we can use 4.4 without its so called perks like "less RAM usage"
Yeah 4.4 should have lower hardware requirements. However, it doesn't matter because our exynos device still lacks proper drivers. That's worsen by the fact that we currently have no Galaxy S2 devs left working on CM to port new android versions to our device

The bloated versions are Samsung's ones... Pure Android is not bloated

Yes I know that. But our phone has no problem running 4.2.2 or 4.3 that are AOSP based...... So whats the purpose of this thread anyway.... Cus Sammy has no intention of ever updating this phone to a higher version...

Yeah 4.4 should have lower hardware requirements. However, it doesn't matter because our exynos device still lacks proper drivers. That's worsen by the fact that we currently have no Galaxy S2 devs left working on CM to port new android versions to our device

Our S2 is getting old.. And i'm not sure that it will can run 4.4 as good as it run 4.2.2.

Untill now, the S2 is running is able to run 4.3.1 and 100% it will able to run 4.4
Samsung adds a lot of bloatware to their official roms which make the device slow
that's why I never use stock rom
Yea but what about cool features like multi window smart functions and motion ?
If this doesn't mean smth for you .... what about drivers? 4.2/4.3 have a lot of glitches with graphics and cuz samsung dont release exynos source code our beloved s2 will die one day in a near future

4.4 Google Play Edition? ETA?

Now that this rom is released, does anyone have any idea how long something like this would take to port over?
I'm not sure if it's an easy thing or not. I know AOSP was pushed almost same day, albeit being buggy.
I'm pretty excited to get the update on my AT&T phone, however I don't remember how long it took for the 4.3 to be released for regular models.
For anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

Awesome! That's where I got my 4.3 GPE rom, thanks for the update dude!
I'm not an expert on this, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.
By what I understand, the Google Edition ROM runs with little modification on the AT&T S4. The main hurdles are with the kernel, which has to be modified slightly to run on the AT&T S4. Once a developer is able to modify the kernel to run, porting the rest of the ROM over shouldn't be a big deal. The developers are pretty brilliant and quick on this stuff, so I imagine you'll be seeing ports of the GPE ROM here pretty soon.

Basically. I mean, there isn't a significant difference in the hardware between a normal Samsung S4 and a Google Edition S4, except the LTE chips used for retrieving signal (depends on your carrier). So that being said, the kernel shouldn't be a big deal and the ROM shouldn't be either. I'm really hoping to use Kangakat as soon as it's released, I'm a BIG fan of Kangabean and have been using it along with Omega ROM with dual boot. Can't wait for this! Thanks for the good news! It's about time!

This is a great question....
I was PLANNING on flashing a 4.3 ROM but I seriously might just wait out till 4.4 ROMS...
How long do you think it would be? A couple months? A couple weeks? 3 seconds?
Guys... It comes out when it comes out. There is no telling. Please don't ask for ETAs. It is heavily frowned upon. Just be patient.

Honestly for everyone whining about people whining for ETAs, I'm gonna throw this out there - I wouldn't be surprised if it were out tomorrow to be honest.

International s4 has several roms for google edition 4.4 already. I wouldn't flash them just yet because roms for our phone are just around the corner.

Been monitoring the thread posted above, looks like there is one small issue for them to resolve with the Kernel and the 4.4 GPE rom will be ready
Here's to hoping for tomorrow

yep, it's being worked on
not quite sure what is going on with keystore, but it's causing a force close of settings. I've been in touch with both faux and ktoonsez and they are actively working on a fix

Why wouldn't it? They are the exact same device I thought.
The article states that this is the OTA, not a standalone ROM - am I wrong in thinking that it couldn't be installed?

Yes you are. The S4 Snapdragon variants (Google Play Edition, AT&T, etc) all have the exact same hardware. It will run perfectly as a flashed ROM once it's finished be g developed. Why wouldn't it?

Well, yeah, after development, but this seems to currently be installable on the I9505G, not the I337. At least according to the article, comments there, and what I've seen on the I9505G forum.
