Force close errors i9505 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks I am running Omega rom at present but trying out others as well! Since I upgraded to 9.0 I have force close errors regularly! I will add a screen shot of my info but I have tried a clean install I have even reverted by to stock through odin and still no joy!
Hoping someone can shed some light and information on it for me!
Cheers

Same on stock MGA

it could depend by the recovery you are using for flashing. In same cases the "wipe data / factory reset" does not clean everything and you should manually format the partitions (eg. format system, format data...).
Good luck

Market wont work after downgrading from dj05

OK. So thisnis my first post here. but I've been readingb up here for almost. 2 months now. Everyone here is very nice and very helpful. So I upgraded to dj05 the other day. Everything was fine burning could jot get my market to open
I cleared the cache, market cache, market download, davilk cache, factory reset everything. So I decided to revert back to di01 and just wait out the official update. I reverted back via Odin and flashed in a clean version of di01. Now I am getting a network error when I try to open the market. Failure to connect with network. Any ideas guys?? Thanks for the help.

Sorry did you factory data reset after you flashed di01? Try clearing everthing one more time. This happened to me a couple of days ago.

Did you update your modem.bin?

Yeah I did that too. I just don't know what's wrong.

Did you wipe from stock recovery and from clockwork? Adryn has said before that clockwork wiping doesn't wipe everything. Not sure if you already did both though =)

If that doesn't work, try this:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13392613/di01modem.tar
Flash thru Odin - use PDA button only!!!!!
Ok so I reflashed the di01 and then used a backup female when o first got the phone rooted. And it fixed my problem. Thanks a lot for the help guys.

can i please go into detail on how you fixed this? i have the exact same problem and i cant figure it out. I reflashed di01 and did all kinds of data wipes and it still wont work.
EDIT: nevermind i fixed it

When I try to use my wifi on CM 7.1 stable it just says error everytime I turn it on. So I tried to wipe everything again and reflash and that still didn't fix it. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Try wiping cache and dalvik n try it or try to reflash different kernel .or just the stock kernel 4 cm you may also of got a incomplete download. Did you maybe restore part of a old OS instead of just apps also?

This answer was given to me by "teh roxxorz." This has nothing to do with your rom or kernel, do this:
Back up everything into Titanium Backup
Boot into recovery
wipe cache, Dalvik, and pretty much everything
reflash your rom, kernel and gapps (or if you would like to check out some other roms and kernels just click on the link in my sig)
once you've set up your phone download Titanium Backup from the market
in titanium backup restore all your apps ONLY!!! (don't get apps w/ data - only get apps, and do not get system data)
after this your wifi should be working just fine
p.s. if you would like to find out more about aosp roms/kernels check the link in my sig ^_^
The strange part is I restored nothing at all. It was a fresh start I will see if that works.

[Q] Answering call problem

Hi guys, I have a problem that is huge for me. When someone calls me and I answer it, the timer stops at 00:01 and freezes, after which I get a force close, and after that I can't call anyone and noone can reach me because the same thing happens. What should I do?
For me it happens only some cases when I use data on EXT ROMs and I solved it always by wiping dalvik cache.
Which type of ROM you are using?

im using Cyanogenmod 10, i think it Jellybean, the kernel says jellybean r1.
If data on EXT it happens to me. Try wipe dalvik cache and fix permissions.

[Q] Switching ROMs

I have a quick question. When switching ROMs should I also in addition to factory reset, also perform a system/wipe to wipe the already installed custom ROM? Thanks.
It is generally unnecessary, but not a bad idea to do so. Most devs have their updater script format /system, but you'll find the occasional one that omits that one line.

Alright. So I shouldn't worry about performing system wipe?

I think it's better to wipe the system. As I've faced many kind of froblem because of a dirty flash. And I've seen many bug reports on several ROM thread and it just came out that it's not the ROM but the dirty flash is causing the problem. It will probably take 1-2hr to get back to the previous position so what's the big didfference??

OK. So when switching ROMs I should perform factory restore, wipe all caches, as well as system/wipe to erase the ROM currently installed. I have done it that way before but I always get nervous when I wipe system, cause now it has no ROM installed at all and I don't want anything to happen in that case. But thanks for the quick reply

What could happen?? Hardbrick?? A little chance..... Here's what I think when I do something risky. Just Think like I don't have any device if I can get this device back it's bonus for me.
You can always flash a rom whatever it has one or not untill your device can be booted into fastboot. So don't be afraid if something bad(!?) happens and you can boot into fastboot mode. Once I even had no boot just the fastboot it took less than 5 min to get a system on it.
And dirty flash is always an option. I myself had and seen many people having problems with it.

Don't just say thank, there is a button for thnking.
Clean is always the best! But always make a backup before the wipe process!
Wipe:
/system
/userdata
/.android-secure
/dalvik-cache
/cache

Something's Wrong.. Please Help.

So, every time I flash a ROM and everything I boot it up and everything's fine but when I go for a reboot it gets stuck on the "Samsung Custom" image and my phone will only work when I wipe everything and reinstall the ROM.. I've tried different Roms and not flashing certain mods but nothing is working.

Are you using TWRP? You might want to go to the development section and read the TWRP thread...it has people that have had similar experiences that might help you.
If you are not using TWRP (even if you are) make sure you have the correct kernel for your ROM(s). There is a very informative thread in the general section about that.
And, of course, there is always LOKI if you are on AT&T, but it doesn't sound like the issue, but you might still want to research it. Good luck.
Restore to stock via Odin. install rom. Odin. Done.
You wiped your partition in TWRP by saying yes when wiping it.
