Hey all,
I found a person selling a Chinese X10, and I was wondering if/how I can change its region to Canada, change it's language to English, and make it work with Rogers.
Help would be greatly appreciated,.
Thanks!
you can root with build r2ba023 from this region
It'll be a X10i so you'll only have 2g working no 3g.
This phone would be for my girlfriend because she is in love with the X10, but doesn't want a contract, so I would prefer not having to root hers if i dont have to because she will most likely not see any benefits from it. I'm getting one myself this weekend, and I'll root mine because I luvs me some fiddling with software. As for the 2g and not 3g, she will probably not have a data plan, so it would be mainly wifi and the lack of 3g wouldn't matter.
So I guess what it comes down to is, will the phone have an english language option? and will switching it to english, and unlocking it for use with rogers be enough?
Thanks for the replies
All x10 (or all android phones?) comes with multiple languages like Iphone does.
what you need to do is change the phone language in settings. and I think all x10 they sell in china are unlocked, so it shouldn't be a problem if you just put your sim card in.

Sir, if this is true, you have made my life easier than...it would have been otherwise.
Yea I couldn't think of anything smarter.
I'm in China, and I bought mine here a month or so ago. I could be wrong, but I believe the X10 isn't officially available in China - my model was illegally imported (as many big-name phones are, as they haven't been crippled in any way; like removing WiFi), so your phone is likely from another country, not China. I just checked the SE China website; they have the X10i on it, but clicking 'buy now' takes you to the Vivaz!
Mine is an X10i and came with English, Japanese and Chinese keyboards. The phone's region can be set to English (UK or US), and western software like Twitter and Facebook was included.
When I got mine, I didn't actually check which region my phone was actually from, and I now have HK firmware running on it (even this can be set to UK or US regions).
Oh, and it was also fully unlocked and unbranded out of the box.

Sorry that this is off topic but I'm glad to find someone in the same boat. I have the HK region X10i and I'm sick of not getting updates from SEUS. I think the HK firmware is causing some troubles on my phone such as the camera shutter sound won't shut off. Does yours do that?
Hi all,
Today the Nexus S has been released in The Netherlands. However I've ordered a US version (because of a S AMOLED screen) through the dutch online shop and that type runs on a GB 2.3.2 english version.
My questions are;
Can I install a dutch GB 2.3.3 (which runs on a dutch models from today on) on that model?
If yes, how to do it?
Sorry if you will find my questions pretty basic but my knowlige of Android is basic too
thanks in advance for any help
Andy
you dont need to patch/flash/rom the US nexus.
with android 2.3.3 it comes with Dutch.
I don't have an answer to your question, however I was wondering if you have checked to see if the 3G frequency of your carrier is supported by the US version of the NxS. I think T-Mobile uses 1700MHz/2100MHz (different than all the other US carriers). Not sure what is used in the Netherlands or if other US versions of the NxS are available yet.
Good luck and enjoy your new phone - the NxS is quite excellent.
I have ordered this one from the dutch webshop (pretty big one) so I assume everything should work fine here
I have my partner in Korea at the moment, and she might buy me the Korean SGS IV. It has LTE and the 1.8ghz Exynos chip.. are there any issues with using it, for instance, I can say I am in Australia? Im pretty sure it has all the LTE bands but does anyone know if it has some ugly extra antenna or doesnt send proper sized SMS? Thanks
Far as I understand it, the Korean version won't work on LTE in America. Sorry.
yes, it has a retractable antenna and sms is handicapped.

HUH? No retractable antenna on the Korean version. lol
You can fix the sms errors usually with a simple build prop edit.. (Root is needed) or by using an alternative sms app such as go sms pro..
Ive been using a optimus g pro for a month or so and everything works as expected

And where exactly is that understanding coming from? From the Samsung twitter feed that says the Exynos 5 supports all 20 LTE bands?
Samsung Exynos 5 Octa Works on All 20 LTE Bands
Samsung Galaxy S4 (SHV-E300S/K)

You're right about that. The chip supports it. But they only support radios in their own regions, for the most part. It would need radios capable of picking up all those networks.
Be very careful about buying from Korea. I'm in New Zealand and had to return my LG Optimus G Pro as some of the 3G frequencies were not supported despite the inter national specs saying they were.
Also apps like gosms did not work as a go around for the 80 sms character limit.
I really wouldn't bother risking it for a marginally faster phone. Get one at home where you know it is optimised to work on your home networks.

Hi folks
I bought a korean sgs-iv 32gb at XXX link removed due to forum policy XXX
I use it in germany on e-plus network and it works fine. I haven't tested LTE cuse I don't need it.
I could switch the phone and input to german language and almost everything is like a standard german s4 only some widgets remained korean and sms only support 80 chars. I'm optimistice that i'll be able to fix those small problems (with some help from YOU at XDAD).
btw the korean s4 has an antenna for dvbm, it's useless in europe but I use it to distinguish myself from the other standart s4 users and say: "size matters ".
I'm fully sattisfied with my purchase. It took about one week till my device was deliverd, the shop informed me abut every step in the delivery process (e.g. device arrived in europe..).
if you got any questions about the korean version i'll try to answre them... i'd say go ahead and get one...

Unfortunately those are part of the stock rom so we won't be able to change the korean language for all system apps. a work around on the 80char sms would be to use 3rd party apps such Go SMS. ive been using it since day1. by the way make sure to backup your STOCK rom for SHV-E300L, there aren't seem to be any roms like that available even here in XDADevelopers. incase you encountere software problem its always a good idea to have a backup on your pc.
Im stationed in Korea and i got the S4. Ive got it rooted and looking for alternative roms to flash as the battery life is horrible even with the extra battery provided. Would the 9500 series roms work on the Korean S4. I am guessing the rom would have to not include the modem to avoid errors, any feedback would be great . Mahalo

Change of language for the Koean SHV E300L
Hi there!
I need some quick tips on how you changed the language on your SHV E300L from Korean to German. I have just bought one and am having serious trouble even getting started as I do not understand the language, and so I cannot even configure the settings. I need help to import English language on my phone. Are you able to kindly run me through the process?
I'll appreciate your help.

GT-19505 or Korean version, does it matter?
I want a 64GB! Does anybody know where I can get one?
Oh, can someone tell me what lack of developers mean for Korean version and if I can access apps like I would on GT-19505, I'm from Canada.
They don't exist. Maybe Samsung might announce them.
...and a pony, too

I can tell you off hand that Korea version will come with an extra antenna for viewing their own streamed TV and SMS is limited to 80 chars.
You should be able to install root, CWM but custom Rom would be dependent on whether any developer is gonna work on it because my guess is that many are focused on the international and US variants.
Oh the S4 is available in Korea starting tomorrow.

Hi guys, I've searched the threads, and the only one that seems to talk about region lock is this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2729956
I want to buy a SM-900F (international version) and I want to bring it to my country (South America). How will region lock affect me? I know it's SIM unlocked, but I don´t think I´ll be able to get ahold of a sim card of another country to be able to activate it... If that's a requirement, though, is it possible to bypass? Any other thing I should know about region lock?
Thanks

I can't comment on capability to bypass it. Can you not get the SM-G900M which is the unlocked version for North and South America? Yes, it's also the branded one down there, but G900M is the "Americas unlocked version". I got mine from Expansys, and they have a Brazilian site.
On a random side note, aren't questions supposed to go in the Q&A section?

I'm really sorry, I didn't even realize I was in general, the thing I'm worried about is the hardware, I know for a fact the F version will have lots of support from the community because it's Qualcomm, but as it was the case with the GS4, the Exynos version almost certainly won't get much love... I'm not sure which hardware the G900M has, but I don't think I'll be able to get one in USA... That's why I was planning on buying the F, it's way easier to get ahold of.

No worries, I was just bugging heh.
I have the G900M. It's Qualcomm. I'm running kernel and ROM for G900F as we speak, and it's perfectly fine. Expansys has many sites around the world, including the USA. I wasn't sure what country you were in. You mentioned South America which is why I pointed out they have a site native to Brazil.
ADDITION
nvm, I can't read. I see you're in Ecuador, so a Brazilian site may not help. The G900M would pass with your SIM card though.
maybe someone else can comment on the region lock itself.

I dont think that sammy has different region lock policies for their smartphones, you should really just call the sammy service center, this takes 5 minutes and is much faster then waiting on xda
