Hey all,
I found a person selling a Chinese X10, and I was wondering if/how I can change its region to Canada, change it's language to English, and make it work with Rogers.
Help would be greatly appreciated,.
Thanks!
you can root with build r2ba023 from this region
It'll be a X10i so you'll only have 2g working no 3g.
This phone would be for my girlfriend because she is in love with the X10, but doesn't want a contract, so I would prefer not having to root hers if i dont have to because she will most likely not see any benefits from it. I'm getting one myself this weekend, and I'll root mine because I luvs me some fiddling with software. As for the 2g and not 3g, she will probably not have a data plan, so it would be mainly wifi and the lack of 3g wouldn't matter.
So I guess what it comes down to is, will the phone have an english language option? and will switching it to english, and unlocking it for use with rogers be enough?
Thanks for the replies
All x10 (or all android phones?) comes with multiple languages like Iphone does.
what you need to do is change the phone language in settings. and I think all x10 they sell in china are unlocked, so it shouldn't be a problem if you just put your sim card in.

Sir, if this is true, you have made my life easier than...it would have been otherwise.
Yea I couldn't think of anything smarter.
I'm in China, and I bought mine here a month or so ago. I could be wrong, but I believe the X10 isn't officially available in China - my model was illegally imported (as many big-name phones are, as they haven't been crippled in any way; like removing WiFi), so your phone is likely from another country, not China. I just checked the SE China website; they have the X10i on it, but clicking 'buy now' takes you to the Vivaz!
Mine is an X10i and came with English, Japanese and Chinese keyboards. The phone's region can be set to English (UK or US), and western software like Twitter and Facebook was included.
When I got mine, I didn't actually check which region my phone was actually from, and I now have HK firmware running on it (even this can be set to UK or US regions).
Oh, and it was also fully unlocked and unbranded out of the box.

Sorry that this is off topic but I'm glad to find someone in the same boat. I have the HK region X10i and I'm sick of not getting updates from SEUS. I think the HK firmware is causing some troubles on my phone such as the camera shutter sound won't shut off. Does yours do that?

Hey there,
I am just about to purchase a HTC HD2 from China.
I have asked for the Pre configured English version, however is there any thing else that i should be concerned about before purchasing?
I looked it up on Alibaba site..
They say it comes with an international warranty, is in the box etc, but will it work in Australia, with my Optus 3G sim? (Also will it work with other carriers too?)
Any info you could provide would be great,
With thanks in advance.

I would be careful if I were you in checking out the specs. Most HTC phones sold in Asia do not come with the 3G 850Mhz Band. If I am correct, you will need this band to receive 3G services in Australia. Check here to see the specs that come with HTC phones that are legally sold in Asia. Don't confuse GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz support with 3G support. For that you have to look at the specs for HSPA/WCDMA.
I have a HD2 which I bought from Handtec in the UK. I used it on the Telstra Network for a while but it only worked with EDGE. I have since changed to Vodafone and get full 3G for half the price.
I have not tried Optus, so you may need to check what frequencies they use for their 3G Network. The HD2s from overseas doesn't contain the 850Mhz frequency so for Telstra it will only ever get EDGE not full 3G.
Vodafone uses the 900/2100Mhz
Telstra uses 850/2100Mhz, they are apparently getting the 850Mhz on their HD2 Versions released in AUS Q1 2010.
Your HD2 will definitely work in Australia with the Optus network. However if you live in a regional area and change to Telstra you will struggle as the phone has not yet been released with NextG's 850MHz compatibility. Telstra is releasing this phone very soon.
There's a thread discussing this topic already so you should read that too.
Of more concern is maybe where you're getting the phone from. I hope you've got a reputable dealer...

le_paulo's right. no matter what network you use in AUS it will work- to varying degrees. as a phone, no worries, but the 3G/EDGE issue you will need to take into account.
try this list of vendors xda forum users have used;
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Leo/Vendors
like i said before I used Handtec, they seem to have a good rep and it only took 2 weeks to get to darwin from the uk.

About working and not working other freinds informed you, but be careful there will be no warranty if you purchase it from china. I dont know HTC is having global warranty service in Australia or not.
I am a victim I purchased Touch HD from Hong Kong (and it is not working now) & I am living in UAE, my full value of mobile wasted as here no global warranty available. HTC is telling me to send the phone to Hong Kong.

Do you have any HTC service centers UAE? I checked with the HTC headquarters in Taiwan and their response was to first seek help from an HTC service center, and if they cannot fix it, the phone would be sent back to the country of origin. Of course, Taiwan itself has good HTC service centers. I have no idea about HTC service centers in UAE or Australia.
Don't buy anything searched on alibaba.com or china...
I know its late for me... but maybe for anyone else not... DON'T BUY ANYTHING ON alibaba.com...
A month ago, searching for HTC HD2 T9193 on alibaba... and I found many who sell it... as low as $183/unit on 2 minimun units... so I tried it and here are the results:
I have received same amount of phones that I have ordered (3) but Chinesse copies of Nokia N97s!... and the response of the person who sold it to me... "there could be a problem with the cargo company, we are waiting their response"... and here I am... a month later waiting for "the cargo company to give them an answer!"...
So if either of you want to buy anything and searched on alibaba.com... at least don't do with these people:
Moninka
www dot werternmars dot com
westernmars at hotmail dot com
westernmars1 at hotmail dot com
As others said, they only receive Western Union or Money Gram transfer (not paypal neither credit card)... and the prices are very low...
Hello, I'm from Pakistan and I was wondering a few things:
1- What if your region is not supported by the market place? There really is no way for me to know other than when I have bought the phone. So if the marketplace is not supported, I wont be able to download the apps? And if I will be, what about paid apps? If the market place does not support Pakistan for paid apps, is there any other way to get them?
2- Are updates region specific? The phones we get here are factory unlocked direct from HTC or Samsung. So will I get the NoDo update even if this region might not be officially supported?

First question... If you want to know of your country is suported go to the zune site and try to change you region and see the ones avaidable..
Well now that you know, you can download, but not buy... Unless you create a new Live account (and using it on the phone as primary) for exemple saying your from the US and them having an ''American'' credit card... American Express cards seem to be working in other countries... Other way to get only through piracy.. So no help there...
As for the updates... They are not region specific... Only some carriers are blocking them... The if yours is unlocked, no problem...
well I just saw and Pakistan is not supported. So if I select USA as my country, I will need a credit from someone who lives in USA for it to work?
Other than paid apps, I will be able to download free apps no problem right?

Right...
And yes free apps you can download without a problem...
Thanks. What about websites like windowsphoneapplist.com? Can I use these to buy applications? It doesnt look like a region specific website
Those sites do not sell apps, they just redirect you to marketplace.
The omnia 7 available here in Pakistan was on T-mobile UK and now unlocked for the rest of the world. I wont get any troubles getting updates on this right? or i'll get them when T-mobile in UK releases them?

Re-flash a non-specific firmware. You won't have to worry about when T-mobile authorises the update then, you'll get it as soon as MS release it.
Casey
Hope this isn't a noob question, I ain't touched android flashing in detail for a few years.
I have an LG G2 handset which I bought in mainland China (where I live), but is from Hong Kong as the G2 was never officially released here.
Anyway, I have got a 4G/LTE sim for it and as I expected, it doesn't work, just gives me 3G and after a quick google it seems other users have had success by flashing a rom specific to the region they will use the phone in. I have tried the 2 star/hash codes but neither seemed to work
Does anyone know my best option since I live in a region that doesn't have an official rom as such (although g2-lg.com seems to say theres a beijing rom)?
anybody throw me a few bones?! Getting desperate here!

No limitation. The only thing is when you setup device initially - the default language will be in the language of the device origin. I have a german DBT Note 4 myself - imported to Ireland. So on initial setup I'm greeted in German - so have to change to english.
Other than that you should have no problems. Likewise you will receive updates based on the territory you bought your device, so if the UK get lollipop OTA update - don't expect your own to get it at same time - you will get that when the update rolls out for the territory your device was originally bought in...
Unless you flash a clean new official rom and change your CSC. But familiarise yourself with the Note 4 before worrying about doing anything like that.
you'd only face the real limitations if you had a US SIM, as the European note 4 models come with a temporary region lock to discourage import.
since the UK is part of Europe, there shouldn't be a problem.
hi everyone...i bought one samsung galaxzy note 4, and after some timeof usage, i noticed unusual sound from the phone whenever i touch the screen, or do anything on the phone, the kind of sound i hear is like the phone want to blow up.. i presently turned the phone off now...pls advice what can i do??
Hi! I just recieved my G9750 Snapdragon 855 S10 Plus, which turned out to be a chinese one. Is it any way to install any non-chinese/global ROM onto it? Like a USA ROM, which is also a Snapdragon one? I live in the UK, but I wanted one with the Snapdragon chipset. Thanks for any help.
Also in the same situation
Ditto - imported to UK.

Of course it's include all languages, english also, but G9750 is for the Chinese market, so as the ROM is chinese. For example the Samsung Pay is Hong Kong specific one, with promotions from there. Etc....
So you wanted the G-9750 for the dual SIM functionality? I'm using the G-9750 in Canada, and Samsung Pay works. Did you try registering your CC?
All the S10's are dual SIM. I wanted the Snapdragon 855 version, cause it has better battery life compared to the Exynos version. I know that for sure, cause I had one at launch. And almost full support for the GCAM.

Yes Snapdragon has better battery life for screen on runtime. There is no international ROM for Chinese variant. You have to use the Hong Kong firmware by changing language to English. Samsung Pay works as well, just different ads from Hong Kong when you use it.

Yeah to be honest after a day with the phone - the only thing that makes it feel Chinese/HK is Samsung Pay... and I'm not entirely sure i'll be using it over GPay.
Looks like we have an unlocked bootloader though so will personally its just a matter of time until I brick my phone

Hi, if I may ask that have you linked your Canadian cards to the G9750 and it works with Samsung Pay? I am planning to buy one but the Samsung Pay is very important to me...
adding to the same question , i have a HongKong variant (SM-G9750) with Unlocked bootloader (u get the option to unlock in developer mode) , i m using it in india with Jio & Vodafone (network providers).. when i was on roaming i saw my phone not picking up network that well compared to my friends on the same network diff phones. i guess thats coz their CSC is Indian and mine is Hong kong ( i can be wrong in this , correct if i am) in that case is there a way to flash Indian CSC or Multi CSC on my device.
hi everybody , i have s10 plus hong kong, it has a problem with battery, cell standby higher than 15% on mobile network 4g and 3g, is there any way to solve this problem ? while s10 5g cell standby only has 1%

Just adding to the discussion here....I'm living in mainland China, not Hong Kong, and am using a Chinese sim card in my S7 that i brought with me from North America. It works fine with the apps i had installed when I came over. This includes VPN services, the Google play store and all its goodies. I just purchased the S10+ G9750 here in mainland China (not in Hong Kong). I don't have it in my hand yet, but when I get it I expect it to be full of Chinese software and restricting type soft/bloatware that could potentially limit both my access to VPN and the Google play store (FWIW, i have heard many expats here who have bought local xiaomi's and huawei's and have tried to put a VPN on them on to have it magically disappear from their phones a few days/weeks afterwards...I assume there is some sort of setting or software that does this as VPN services are not "legal" in China. I have also heard of people having problems with certain western APKs when installing them on these same Chinese phones).
That said...I have a few questions....hopefully this is the correct place to ask them...
1) Is there a difference between a Hong Kong G9750 and a mainland China one?
2) Based on what I have read, my G9750 does have an unlockable bootloader....if so...
3) what am i able to do with an unlockable bootloader? It seems that people interchangeably use "rooting" and bootloading a new rom on to an international phone so i'm confused af. Flashing the firmware???
Ultimately, i would like to completely wash this Chinese phone of any potential BS Chinese software and install a western ROM (i.e., Canada or US) that will still make it work in China, but will still offer me all the Google play store and other western app functionality as I have currently with my s7.
Thoughts?
