How did you get a clone? Did you buy it at a store?

Sorry, no chance of rooting or upgrading rom... The rooting methods employed are for certain spec hardware. Unfortunately this doesn't pertain to your hardware. If you did flash it with root or try to update the rom you would in all likelihood brick your phone.
All the advice I can offer is if you bought it at a store as a Samsung Galaxy S 4 then take it back for a refund. If they won't then you are stuck pursuing them through the agencies you have in your country that deal with things like that - here in Oz I'd go to consumer affairs... If it was from outside your country then in all probability you are stuck with your clone and no pot to piss in...

I got it from my friend. I think that was original because he said so. Until I want to try to root and I can't do it.

Just to check you are pushing the right buttons -
Download mode - from power off hold power, volume down and home key until download mode appears, push up volume to get to download mode (ignore the warning)
Recovery mode - from power off hold power, volume up and home key until Samsung logo appears, release power key but continue holding home and volume up until you get recovery mode.
Not trying to be insulting but I have seen it where people try the wrong buttons or release a bit too soon...

You bought it from your "friend"
why did he rip you off if he is your friend?
It's simple, just tell him he lied to you and you want your money back

What is your build? Could you take a screen shot? Go to settings--more--about device and it should look like picture attached then hold the power button (the right side button) and the home button (the middle button) and it should save. Then maybe we can help you out some more.

According to the OP information, it is NOT a clone, all the specs are right. Besides Tapatalk recognizes the device wich reads from model number (look signature)

I was reading the OP post and i was like everything seems genuine ... why is he calling it a clone ...
Also ifyour buttons have some problem or you are not pressing them as you supposed to doesn't make your phone a clone ... and i want to know why u were certain that u have a clone and not the original ...

I am a big fan of the home button, removable battery and I like the way the buttons are set up and the phone feels & sits well in the hand. Plus if you hit any problems their is plenty of support on the forums.
People ask is it worth upgrading from the S3 to the S4, YES because even though the design hasn't changed much Samsung have made some nice tweeks under the hood

The screen.
If you need more than one reason:
2) Ability to change batteries. Trust me, if you're a long term user who uses phones for more than a year or 2. This is heavenly.
3) Exynos Processor. Snapdragon 600 is amazing too but not exclusive.
4) Home Button - This is based on preference but I love it.
5) Camera - It's definitely ranks high among phone cameras
6) All the gimmicks you wont get on any other phone [Smart Scroll, etc]
But I gotta admit, software optimizations is below par. But nothing an OTA update can't fix

Is now a bad time to buy an s4?

So iam Thinking of selling my note 2 and buy an s4, but after seeing the vast bad consumer reviews on both the german and uk amazon about the failure rates of the display and overheating issues its starting to worrying me.
Did you guys have any issues with your s4?
Should I wait for a less defective batch?
The version available to me is the l9505
People are going to have different opinions. Some will say fw will fix problems. When the Note 3 and/or the S5 come out, I know what I'm doing. I'm going to wait a little bit, not too long though and get a feel of what consumers have to say about the device before purchasing. To each their own.

Problems you read about on the Internet can happen, however, in the case of S4 some of the problems have been solved by Samsung with firmware updates.
Overheating seem to happen more often on i9500 than on i9505. I personally never had a problem with overheating.
I personally wouldn't wait.
Therr are 2 versions of s4.
1. I9500 - has heating problem due to the octa core processor.
2. I9505 - comparitively, gets lets heated up.
About the screen issue, most of it is caused due to not handling s4 properly or by heating issue.
Anyway, note 2 is an awesome device. I own one too. Apart from note 2, I own s4. I must say that s4 is way better than note 2. You can see significant performance with s4 along with the amazing software support from samsung.
The choice it yours. You should look at some reviews on youtube becuase there is nothing called as 'less defective batch of s4' unlike the defects found in htc one.

If you are using note 2 then at least you should wait more one or two months...i dont think s4 is so big update over note 2
Yes..if you are using other devices like note 1 , s2 (or s3 may be) etc then you can buy s4 now and now you can get much price cut on s4
After all its your choice
if you come from the note 2 then my advice is to wait for the note 3
its the best choice for you and the note 2 is still a very capable device that runs anything currently out well

This thread is going towards comparison b/w S4 and Note 2. isn't it.?
BTW, I do have both devices S4 octa V & Note 2.
Both have different parameters. Better to use this thread for comparison -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2334012
I have SGSIII E210K and SGS4 I9500. Both have heat issue. And i wouldn't say I9500 have exceptional heating. Nope. It's comparable to E210K, but may be a little more hot. But, hey, I9500 has more powerful CPU as well.
Thus heating level is normal if compare to other powerful devices. If u don't play 3D games and don't use live 3d wallpaper then I9500 won't heat much.
Note 2 (and Note 3 will as well) has bigger size and thus more efficient in heat dissipation. So, it's obviously will work better even with the same CPU. And has room for bigger battery as well.
If you are user of Note 2 then upgrade to Note 3 will be more pleasant than to S4 where u will have some trade-offs.
As a i9500 user I haven't experienced any reset due to camera or heating. Heating is moderate even when I am running benchmarks. Everything seems fine to me and performance is extraordinary! Only thing I wonder is we might not get google edition rom but there is a possibility that samsung will release a fw for i9500 that will run all 8 cores which is exciting!

Well that might be the reason behind late developing process.

Cloned I9500

So I just bought a s4 and it turned out to be a clone one. Doesn't have eye scroll, air gesture etc. Smaller screen size. Is it safe to root it and flash one of the roms here? Its the I-9500 model clone.
Can't return it as the guy is not picking up the phone.

Run antutu , quadrant and maybe some other apps which are capable of identyfying hardware.
Look at the SoC , ram and all HW info and compare them to legit S4.
If it is indeed a clone it won't have full hd display 99 percent and for sure it wont have exynos or snapdragon 600 CPU.
If it is a clone it is totally different phone and you're screwed.

NO, don`t flash anything from the I9500/I9505forum, this will brick your device Your phone has a different cpu, SoC, screen, maybe altered partition. I`ve seen videos of cloned S4`s running Java instead of android

Of course not, devices are different. It's the same question if someone would ask ''can i flash the HTC One rom on the i9505''
No you can't
It's a quad-core processor, can't find the name, 512 mb ram, some bull**** camera, slightly smaller screen too. camera. Veal, I bought this as a gift for my mom and got screwed up big time. These clones looks exactly like s4. Fml

It's probably a MediaTek quad core chip with some PowerVR GPU (probably PowerVR SGX540) but I'm sure the performance won't be similar to the 544MP3 GPU found in the real i9500.

these are probably the MKT6589 chinese clones that have been surfacing around. my friend was also a victim. he got it from craigslist and everything is 1:1 copy even the 5inch screen. they are also running a custom Android Rom 4.2.2 which has US version of playstore. if you really dont know what to look out for, its easy to get victim with these clone s4's
Yup, folks buying from craiglist should really be careful, these clones looks very much like the original.

Urgent help to Identify Note 4

Hi guys,
ok so trading my Note Edge for a Note 4. I have the Note Edge, Note 4 (black 910C) and an brand new Note 4 (White 910F) with me. So far the 910C looks like its not a fake but I found the following:
1. On the 910C The S-Pen with the wording "Samsung" is printed but really light. The Edge and 910F you can easily see "Samsung" written on it.
2. With CPU-Z the 910F says the screen size is 5.71" where the 910C says its 5.66". This is strange but looks like its true?
3. The screen on the 910F seems a bit more bright than on the 910C. Is that normal? Here's the pics:

ps: The settings are 100% the same. When you look at the colours with "Check my android" they all seem to be the same

The easiest way of checking whether or not a Note 4 is real is by using the stylus button while it's lifted off the screen.
I bought a SM-N910C on Colombia and my cousin bought another one here in Brazil, I tested both on Antutu and the score is very close with no much difference. But I see that the screen is a little bit different, mine is a little bit more brightness than his Note 4 and. The white color is different too, mine seem to be more whitish and his more yellowish. Is more easy to pull his S Pen too.
I'm sure that both are genuine devices, but we see some differences.

You dont even need to press the button. If you see small dot on screen while hovering with s pen above the screen it is a good sign that note is real. You can also install app "phone info samsung" from play store to do some checking.

Ok so seems then the phone is real. The S-Pen has a pointer on the screen without clicking the button. Button also does work on the screen. Think his S-Pen might just have been used a lot or something but works fine. I did install the app and this is some screenshots of the results:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ka29w5m8ekb0hbk/AAAXj3peAZ7BOPF_qxxE3jz8a?dl=0
So seems that its original and that the screen size is 5.66 for some strange reason. Perhaps just the Octa version then. Anyone else has this screen size? Sending my Edge to the guy tomorrow so hopefully this is real then

[Q] Really need help understanding this one!

Hi!
Brand new to the group so I thought I'd say hi and ask this question.
You see, I have this problem with my SM-N910 (Galaxy Note 4 for N.A.) That I'd recently purchased here in Canada. Works just fine until suddenly, problems popped up. so I thought doing a factory reset would help solve the problem. Only to realize that, it made it somewhat worst. Because it went to being a Note 4 for Canada (N910) to a Note 4 for China (N9100), Plus it didn't help that now the Boot-Up screen went from showing that it's a "Samsung Galaxy Note 4 powered by Android" with Samsung logo showing up afterwards, to just "Android", with the Android logo showing up afterwards. Is there anyway of fixing this? Any and all advice would be definitely appreciated! Thanks in return!
1. Are you sure the device is genuine? download Samsung Info app from playstore.
2. If it was rooted with custom ROM/Kernel etc perhaps you need to re-flash original OS or kernel?
Can you pass the booting process?
If you can, install CPU-Z & run it then post the screenshot here.
It is likely that you bought a counterfeit device.

Lol. It's a fake one. It has an MTK processor. It has only 16 gigs installed. It has dpi of 480 instead of 640 the genuine has.
It only has a FHD screen.
I need to say no more

It is indeed a FAKE.
Return it to the seller & ask for a refund!
Original Samsung Galaxy Note 4 always has Exynos/Qualcomm Snapdragon processor & QHD/2K screen resolution (1440 x 2560 pixels) with ~515 ppi pixel density.
Your unit has MT6572 - MediaTek processor, HD screen resolution (1080x1920) with 480ppi & it means it is a FAKE/Clone.
The real SM-N9100 has 16GB internal memory, but the CPU is NOT mediatek and the screen resolution is still QHD.
It suppose to be a cheap Note 4 clone for low end market.
Will do! Thanks for the feedback everyone!
