Android System, *backup* process draining battery - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Android System is draining my battery since android 4.3, the particular process that is causing it is *backup*, the problem i never had any problem with the backup process draining my battery.
I installed the 4.3 factory image and only restored users apps but the problem is not solved.

Apparently that is Google Backup so you have to wait for a few days so it will be done syncing and you should have no issues afterwards.

Unfortunately it's still doing it, I can't get more than 1h30 screen on time because of it, is there anybody experiencing the same thing?

Does your wifi connection gets disconnected when cell goes in deep sleep?
If yes,This can cause major drains as google keeps pinging the server for connection.

I keep getting all my notifications so I guess that I'm always connected

apparentlyi also have the same problem. maybe disabling the autosync can solve this issue.

Ah, It is backing up every day unless you are going to wipe or something, try disabling "App Data" with your connected Google Account in the sync settings.

Disabling "app data" sync did the trick!
Thanks!

This has been killing my battery in the last 4 days on my Nexus 6P. It started out of the blue this week and the *backup* process it just drains huge chunks of battery. Any other ideas? I tried disabling App Data sync in my google account but didnt do anything. Still high battery consumption. Any help appreciated.

Have you gyus managed to get rid of this battery draining issue?

[Q] [HELP] Suspend_backoff wakelock

Hey, my friends!
I have recently bought my great new phone- the LG Nexus 4. I am also quite happy with it, but I am facing wakelocks, so I can not reach deep sleep. That consumes battery, etc...
I've tried really everything- uninstalled Google maps and Google Search,
freezed Facebook, prevented many autostarts of apps that do not need them. But the wakelock ist still present, even if sync is OFF!!
Btw- i installed the newest factory image and then went straight to CM.1 to have a real fresh install.
I used SPY Cpu and Better Battery Stats to analyze. In the appendix you will find som random logcats and screen pictures.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
In the case of grammatical errors I apologize.
Thanks in advance!
With kind regards,
matesc.
1/ Install stock ROM.
2/ Clean Phone of everything.
3/ Install 1 app per day and monitor
4/ Rinse and repeat until you find the offending app.
Whenever that wakelocks appear (randomly) I just reboot and that will do the trick.

Not working.
AW: [Q] [HELP] Suspend_backoff wakelock
Wakelocks came from experience Pro when touchwake or when autostart were enabled.
Sv: [Q] [HELP] Suspend_backoff wakelock
Do you have Google Chrome installed then try to uncheck everything under settings/developer tools.
That helped for me.

Yes i do. And i tried to uninstall but it didn't help. I discovered that this came from that app mentioned before- experience pro by enabling touch wake.
Now I use Google chrome with default settings and I there are no wakelocks anymore.
Wake locks are almost always caused by apps, except the kernel wake locks like the infamous hsic. Anyway, Facebook app is a major source of wake locks and even if you freeze the app, its associated services run silently behind the scene. Your best bet is to never ever install such rogue apps in the first place.

Latest Google play services update is pissing me off

This is what I'm getting now since it updated just after Google i/o. I don't even know how to stop it. My battery has gone from 1+ days of usage to just about 16 hours with no other change. No new apps nothing. And these screenshots were taken after a reboot so I would imagine I'd have well over 1000 wakelocks from this thing. What's more look at the time stamps on the second and third images. Taken 7 minutes apart but I have 21 wakelocks in that short space of time.
Compare that to the wakelock crazy Facebook with only 11 in that same space of time. I don't even know what to do about this. Has never been this bad in my 2 months of owning the phone.
Any advice or recommendations to fix this? It's driving me crazy.
Also:
No I have no new apps.
No I didn't flash anything else.
My kernel was the same this entire time.
The phone gets mad hot for no reason.
Tried wakelock terminator on it but it only made it not want enter deep sleep all together.

If you have a look around the forum and the internet, you'll notice every device from every brand has this issue. Sony has it worse, they dont even last 7 hours.
Turn off Google data backup, opt out of personalized apps and turn off location services.
You could always just disable Gplay services for now. I'm not rooted and I've done it.

Thank you but my device nonrooted and i want to keep it that way
Now the whatsapp draining is rising up and comming close to the screen consumption dunno why
Without root, not much can be done, best thing i can think off is reinstalling whatsapp or check if it could be something else, the only app that's ever caused trouble for my phone is facebook
Humm, without root it's impossible to identify whats causing this...
Guess you could try to uninstall Whatsapp and install back again.
Or try cleaning the app cache
Or clearing cache (and data) of Whatsapp. Then do a reboot and report if the issue is still present.
WhatsApp is behaving fine for me.
Ok im trying this and iwill see results
Ihad tried everything the problem still there
You can see the whatsapp consumption right now
Is this normal ?!
That the sot actually the battery doesn't seem that bad
But dunno why the whatsapp is no1 in battery stats
Very weired
same stats here, didnt really care about it or notice any serious drain

Did you enable Google Drive backup in Whatsapp? Yesterday, Whatsapp kept wifi awake for more than seven hours on my device. After going through the backup process manually everything seems to be fine again.

To my own frustration, you are not the only one. A tracker app I made myself works flawlessly on multiple android Brands, but NOT on Huawei phones. The accuracy (an actual variable when programming location apps) goes from 20 (good) to 800 (very very bad) when the screen is switched off. I think Huawei wants to save the battery.... Nothing to do about it. Even when you mark the app as 'protected', no powersave thingies on etc. Sorry. I myself am thinking of buying a new phone with a CPU supported by Cyanogenmod. I gambled and lost this time) Good luck.

Google Play Services draining battery in 3G/4G

Under WiFi, my OnePlus 5 makes 5 or 5 hours and half of active screen. Under 3G instead, battery leasts really less (about 3 or 3 hours and half) because Google Play Services spends a lot of battery: the same of Display in percentage. I tried to reset my phone and to reinstall software from adb too. Any solution for this problem?

Get Wakelock Detector Lite from the playstore and figure out exactly what function of the Google Services rip your battery apart.
I would recommend rooting the phone and disabling your culprits (for me it was net scheduling, safe to turn off).

I rooted my device and installed Wakelock Detector. Opening the app a toast message always says: "Failed ti perform this task at the moment, please try again". What can i do to make this app working?

I said Wakelock Detector LITE and not the rooted version. The rooted version is broken as the dev didn't update it yet.

If you rooted your device with Magisk there's a module that allows Google Play Services to go into doze mode--normally it's exempt. You can also install the Greenify module which allows more aggressive doze than stock Android. Or you could go the route of identifying and blocking specific wakelocks as the earlier poster suggested.
Ok, this is the report form Wakelock Detector (phone battery was at 22%). What should I do now?

You got the same wakelocks as me. Luckily I got the perfect link for you. Follow the guide and you'll be good.
