Searching for Testers and Translators - Firefox OS General

Hi,
it would be great if someone could test my new webapp LinXXer on a firefox smartphone, because i could test it on the firefox emulator only.
The App can be used to encrypt and decrypt messages and send them by mail.
I need to know if the app is running fast enough on real firefox smartphones.
The webapp (beta) can be started from linxxer.com.
Sorry, i can't post a link here, because i have no rights for that. Just open the webpage.
LinXXer is still in development. If you find bugs please report them to me.
The app includes a function to create translation packages (setup->language).
I am looking for a native english speaker who is interested to rework the actual english translation.
The app is free, so i can't pay anything for your support, but those who create a new language pack will be listed in the language menu
which makes them part of the app project.
Berni

Did you get someone that help you to test your app?

I'll do it. I have a business-oriented Bachelor's degree from a major U.S. university. I've done well with spelling and grammar since I was a child. Also, I really enjoy proofreading. Seriously.
Do you prefer UK English or US English? My native is US, though I also have experience with UK, which is more common internationally.

No. some of them might come with Chinese input, but most likely they don't. but here is a great alternative keyboard which does support chinese input. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cootek.smartinputv5&hl=en it has chinese pinyin as well as stoke.
press the thanks button if you find this helpful!
One more question (sorry), I was under the impression that all android devices has ability to read/identify non English languages (just to read them not type them), is that right?
Thanks again

most stock roms support just about all common languages, including chinese. but if you install a different rom, say miui, some language might get disabled. but needless to worry, 99% of the roms out there does support chinese.
Thanks guys!

KMyMoney for Android - Beta testers needed

I have been working on a port of the popular KDE personal finance application KMyMoney to Android. It has finally reached a very stable phase in development and I am looking for some testers. If anyone is interested leave a post here or drop me a PM and I will get you the download link for the betas.
There are a few significant limitations of the port so far and the largest one is that it will only work with sqlite3 databases right now. It has also been translated to German and I am looking for anyone else interested in translating it to any other languages.
Thanks everyone!
Eric

Is this project still alive? I'm testing out a move to KMyMoney and it would definitely be nice to have an android tie-in also. Maybe there are other android finance apps that could be used along with KMyMoney on Linux?

1. Java.
2. Official Docs.
3. StackOverflow.
4. Google.
Good luck!
I've always said anybody can learn to program... once people find that out i'll be out of a job
Google has some good documentation on getting started:
developer.android.com/about/start.html
I'd also recommend finding a good 'learn to program android' website and work through the tutorials (there are quite a few).
Have Fun!

It will not work with c++. Better you start learning java and xml and devlop simple apps. Java will be used to implement logical part in your app, XMl will be used for designing your application.
It can't hurt to learn C++, its a great language to pick up on. But if your looking to make android apps/games I would suggest Java, it can be used on so many platforms and is a big "all around" language. Good luck!

I'm in the same situation as thread starter and after weeks of trying to come to a conclusion I still haven't landed on a decision.
20 years ago I used to program in basic and was quite good at it, then career choice and personal life took over and I haven't programmed since. With the possibilities that Android gives I want to get back into programming to make some job related apps on my spare time, now fairly well what the end result should be, but to get there is another thing.
I see you mention Java and that is the one language I have scrapped during my research due to all the security issues with the language the last couple of years, could anyone or yourself please elaborate on why Java is a good choice, besides "all around" language?
Forgive the n00b-ish question, but we all have to start somewhere.

at least some of them) for now you can also code your apps in c++, c# or even javascirpt. But i believe java is the most documented language for desining android applications.
Learn Java first. That's the best one to develop apps for Android. Though you can always use c++ via ports available or c++ with qt.
Also I would suggest you to use Eclipse as the IDE because Android Studio is quite buggy and for the most time you will be just resolving issues with it.
For learning, android developer is the best source also you can refer to kilo bolt. It had good tutorials on Android and Java.

Any app for language study in Japanese?

I am a Japanese learner and would like to know if there is app is good for study Japanese. Please let me now if there is any
Why not just do a simple Japanese language search on the Google play store then sort by highest rated. I'd recommend do it from your PC to sort the results. Or do a Google a search for best Japanese language. I did this when I started learning Chinese so I could talk to my wife's family members.
