Hey guys, i'm new here to S4 coming from S3.
I have a problem.
I used usage timelines to figure out what was draining my battery
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.als.usagetimelines&hl=en
and I found out that com.android.providers.security is eating some cpu.
Is anyone else having this issue?
Is it normal to eat around 5%?
Can i do something about it or not?
I'm on tw omega v9 rom and ktooonsez latest kernel.
Thanks.
I used a friend's S4 and i saw the same thing.
Can anyone answer me please?
Mine too but differs alittle !
i also am used to engage with DOWNLOADMANAGER service running in background taking pretty cpu and battery on -both- my phones
this always happens on boot or right after managing my files(rename cut paste etc...)
whats the relationship between file managing and DOWNLOADMANAGER service while being offline ? dose the process trigger the media scanning ? it keeps running for even hours till phone gets warm!
even i myself tested it so when i press he mediascan widget on desktop the same process DOWNLOADMANAGER comes up (not the mediascan process)!
i wonder if the phone has media scan precess at all or not?
(my phones both rooted:Xperia mini GB and Xperia go JB
my cpu monitoring app is usage-timeline
excuse my bad English )
Anybody experiencing this issue?!
nobody Answer?

I have been playing with BS Ext for about a week now - very nice tool, thanks!
Question 1:
Has anyone thought of keeping CPU speed low when your device is sleeping (screen off, etc) regardless of app that may be running in background? I am trying to conserve battery life, of course. When the screen is off my phone will run progs (e.g. check for mail regularly) and I truly do not care if they run slower since I am not watching them. Since BS is essentially based on CPU usage or program I do not see how this could be accomplished.
Question 2:
This may seem silly but I thought this prog was not yet released (still in beta) and I am getting shareware notices.. Even if I was ready to purchase the code I could not easily find directions indicating a) how much and b) how I would get rid of the pop-ups. Could anyone advise?
Thanks in advance!
Cheers!
Hi - newbie here hoping to get to the bottom of my battery drain problem.
Somewhat unusually I think, I am seeing problems only when I have wi-fi switched on. It took me a while to realise as I have wi-fi at work and home and I wouldn't normally have turned wi-fi off as I always understood that 3G uses more power.
I tried installing BetterBatteryStats but I am not rooted so it is only giving limited information. What it does tell me is that I am draining the battery at a rate of 9% or so an hour on wi-fi and about 1.4% on 3G. This is with very light or no actual use of the phone. The top two wakelocks by a big margin are msm_hsic_host and PowerManagementService.WakeLocks.
I have virtually nothing running according to my running processes list - mainly the Google ones like Google Play Services, Google Keyboard.
I couldn't put my finger on exactly when this started but it was towards the end of 2013. I did have the really bad drain with Google Play for a few days until the next Android update came. What I'm seeing now is not as bad as that was. I couldn't say whether I had a period after that update when things for a while were better than they are now but my feeling is that things have never been great since the 4.4 updates.
Does anyone have any suggestions please? Am I going to have to root to get better info to debug this problem?
OK, I'm too having this problem and couldn't find any concrete solution for this.
Without full use of batterystats application, the information that you provide don't help much.
Could be many things.
Unleashed by my Nexus 4
I have a i9505 and I updated to android 4.4 and I have an issue with high CPU usage, I may have had the issue on 4.2 too but I am not sure.
Occasionally I notice high CPU usage and my battery life is quickly starts falling. I see two android.process.acore using a lot of CPU and I cannot kill them. When I look at them they are both com.android.process.userdictionary and seem to refuse any attempt to end the process. The only apps I had used since booting the phone was whatsapp , gosms and email app (only to view and not reply to any emails)
I have not loaded any new applications and I cannot see what has called the userdictionary process and why it keeps coming up and using high CPU.
A reboot of the device solves the issue, but it will recur again at some point.
Help?
OK so this is getting worse now.I have had t reboot the device several times today to get rid of these acore issues.
pls can someone help?

I'm having this problem with my NoteII LTE (GT-N7105)
Trying to find a solution - but no luck thus far.
Did you solve the issue? krtccd is always on top with up to 40% CPU usage on my Samsung Galaxy S4

I have the same problem and I don't know the exact reason why this happens, but it is due to a mess in the swap activity of the phone. If you have a rooted phone with a kernel that let you enable or disable zram (like googy max) so try to disable it.
I think that some memory leak or some app put the memory in a bad state screwing up the swap process.
The problem should be temporary stopped if, during the high cpu activity of the krtccd process, you make a "close all" from the multi tasking manager of your phone (accessible holding the home button).
I know it is a late reply, but this could be useful if someone search the forum for a solution.
mannybiker, many thanks for your reply!

could you recommend some app that detects processes with a high swapping activity?

No vak, unfortunately I have not found any app that could show me the zram used per single processes. I kept the same rom with the same config for 9 months and never experienced any problem with krtccd, then suddenly it started to happen so I think this could be related to some update the phone has made to some of my apps. The only thing I could imagine to do is a debugging period making a titanium backup of all the apps, uninstall them all, verify that the problem is solved and start restoring them periodically one after the other seeing what happen, but for the moment I have just completely removed the zram from my kernel option. It is still a controversial feature that increase available memory but also cpu and then battery consumption.
I am not a Linux expert and I have not tested this on Android, but on Linux you can try to discover the swap usage per process with something like that:
Code:
for file in /proc/*/status ; do awk '/VmSwap|Name/{printf $2 " " $3}END{ print ""}' $file; done | sort -k 2 -n -r | less
Overheating on my Galaxy S4.
I have a Galaxy S4 for about a year, I have this problem almost since I bought it, but it appears and reappears, so I let it go.
My Galaxy S4, using WhatsApp Music and the CPU temperature rises to just using these programs 45-50ºC
Using only the poweramp the instrument reaches 65c for no reason.
Using browser is hopeless, the device rises to 50-70 degrees and finally restarts or shuts down.
When I bought the unit in the first week I realized that he was heating a lot, but did not reach this temperature (50-70) normally.
I read in various forums that the normal temperature of the Galaxy S4 units were 35-56c
Recently, I downloaded a few albums of music and some pictures on my phone that day he shot and started this strange behavior, and following the same steps bellow, the problem still persists.
I already own a Galaxy Note and I have witnessed the bug "AndroidMediaScanner".
I did all the steps (exeto formatting the MicroSD, I recently formatted to exFAT SD) Until I checked the status of the reading process of media using the Android ADB, there was nothing abnormal ..
Even without the memory card, few files in SD (just applications) the problem still appears.
What do you think? It may be a hardware problem that requires replacement?
It may be the battery?
It may be the ROM • (when the OmegaROM use a series of modules Xposed)
Recently reinstalled the ROM and the problem still persists.
I read in a blog that the DS Battery Saver could be giving conflict with the manager's native battery used in the Galaxy S4, I uninstalled the program, yet the problem persists warming.
Connected to the USB temperature suddenly increases to 65c without any reason or use.
What recommend?
Sorry for the English. I used Google translator.
Maybe i attach prints.
My initial thought would be to get a new battery. Becaus it jumps so drastically when you start charging it. You could also check your battery connections. Make sure they are free from dust and corrosion.

You have to find the "service" that is turning in background....
If you mind it is the AndroidMediaScanner, I can say from experience ( it was killing my battery in less than 5 hours)
I stopped this issue (flaw) by cleaning one by one my Music folders and deleting those empty or having no music file in it ( that sometime comes when you clean a directory from the music player interface) .
then my phone turning back to normal temperature state.

I said in the text that has nothing wrong with MediaScanner Android. I used the Android Debug Bridge to verify this and it appears to be normal.
The application showed 10% CPU usage when the unit was starting.
I used OS Monitor app (it shows up the processes of the Linux kernel and user) in order to find some buggy process that was doing it.
I removed 4GB of external memory file and checked the Android Debug Bridge MediaScanner if the process had been stuck at some file storage.
There was no error in both stores.
I witnessed this primary failure of the Android system twice on my old Galaxy Note.
Thxz for reply.
whats the solution
Hi.
So, I bought a Galaxy A5 2016 as my new daily driver. What a beautiful phone, really. Pretty fast, better than I expected, I must say. But things are not going so well.
I have a intense usage pattern. On the morning, I use Spotify (sth like 20-30 min), then e-mail sync through the day (every 5m) + browsing and messaging apps. Then, more 40m of Spotify. Everything seems in pair with other devices with similar price and hardware specs. Until today.
As my usage pattern reports, I always use Spotify for 20-30 mins every morning. Today, I was using it, and the song suddenly stopped. As a coincidence, my 3G connection is limited - so it's not operating on its normal speed, which roams about 3Mbps~5Mbps - so I thought that the connection was dropped. When I pressed the HOME button, nothing happened. The song suddenly stopped, along with the system. 10 seconds later, the song returned to play. Less than 5 minutes later, the same bug happened again - same MO. 10 seconds off, returns, didn't happen again. Tested Spotify on the afternoon (same conditions + SAMSUNG personal music player running together), didn't happen too.
Along with that, my RAM usage is pretty high. Besides my downloaded applications, the RAM is mostly consumed by the system itself - so maybe root will fix it. But I'd like to know if anyone ran into this abnormal RAM usage. I even thought about memory leak, but that seems a bit odd, since the memory leak stopped being reported in Android 5.1.
Has anyone ran into any of this issues before? Thanks in advance.
I have it for two days now, yup, ram is at least 80% when I clean up the memory.
It's also pretty hot during the lightest use, average temperature is 35C. When idle it's at least 28C. Anyway, glass backpanel feels really hot, is it normal?
What's your average temperature?
I also want to report that i have the same problem on my A510F on MM 6.0.1 (no root). I have disabled many apps like Skype, S-voice, all the microsoft apps and some system apps that could be disabled but pretty much nothing changed... My ram usage is always around 70%, if i clean it it goes down to 55%-60% but then it gets full again. This does have an impact on the overall performance since on heavy games and generally heavy usage, the phone lags and gets hot. I want to know if ROOTING the device and installing xposed modules and/or uninstalling much of the samsung crap will help the phone breath normally. Any answer or tip is welcome
I have at least 70% of RAM usage and i think it is ok... but there ia a problem over 85-90%: then I have almost same problem as you. It's my second A5 16 and still have this problem. I don't know what to do. This issue happens increasingly. I have 5.1.1 and still hope for removing this problem with marshmallow update.
Anyone more has this problem?
Any ideas what to do?
It makes this phone useless when happens so often![emoji35]

Same problems on MM too, 70-85% RAM usage...hope to solve in feature updates.
Sent from my SM-T560 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I don't see anything bad in usage above 85%, the problem is closing, crashing and lagging apps.
If MM (update for Europe/Poland) doesn't fix it I will probably sell this phone. It's unbelievable to crash apps during using just a 2 of them (in my case Spotify and instagram at top and a few used before).

Did anyone try to fix this problem by "turning off apps in background" in programist options?
I would really like to do that, but every time when I turn this option ON and go back to settings and again go to programist settings it is turned off again - can anyone try to do it on yours phone?
Skrobnięte z A5 '16
Mine is always around 55~60% but free RAM = wasted RAM in Android
More free RAM =/= Smoothness
My A5 2016 can multitask very well (Even with games!) and not much lags
So why some of A5's has so huge problems with ram managing?
Skrobnięte z A5 '16
Is there any stock Android like ROM available for Galaxy a5?
I get MM update yesterday, after 24 I can say my problem stops. Phone seem to be faster and don't get above 87% ram usage.
I didn't restore A5 16 to factory settings.
Skrobnięte z A5 '16
I have problem with level battery when Reach 5% my mobile trun off ??? Plz slov
@up
First thing which you should do is restoring to factory settings and then we will see.

did this happen after u do an update?
im using A5 (2016) for my daily driver.. using spotify a lot too when comutting. never failed me until now (4 month). in my region A5 still dont get MM yet. so i manually upgrade to ROM everymonth with russia region (MM). suprisingly samsung do apply 'android security update' every month for A series.
is ur device is locked by some carrier? AT-T /other? if not try flashing with Russia ROM. u can flash with odin. fear not, ur data & apps still intact. if u flash official fw with odin.
for ram usage, i think this is not a problem. the multitasking still flawless for 2GB of ram. the feature i like from this phone is the GPS. lock very fast. im glad buying this phone. the only downside for me is 'no notification led'
