[Q] USB OTG on Buttered AOKP - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all
I'm running Buttered AOKP & have recently tried USB OTG which I believe is native.
I was expecting that when I connected my USB stick that I'd be able to navigate it with my file manager ES File Explorer, however I'm unable to.
I installed the free version of Nexus Media Importer & can see my memory stick & it's contents but would rather not install another programme if the ROM is able to do it without.
I've also tried the Gallery app & QuickPics without success.
Any advice appreciated.
Cheers, Paul

Stick mount works fine.

Thanks for the reply.
Judt to clarify, even though the ROM supports it natively an additional app is required?
Cheers, Paul

Not required, but, seemingly more reliable. At least given specific experience. YMMV.

Opengl is a media standard that lets you use hardware acceleration and can use flash player, etc. But that version has a few glitches in it that causes freezes. I recommend using the non-opengl version.
You are using MTP protocol for your PC connection which is the default. It limits some of the files you can transfer. You need to switch to USB mass storage. Go to settings, storage, menu, computer connection, and select Mass Storage.

Got the MTP Protocol changed thanks, so much that did it...
AS far as using the non-opengl version is there still a way to use flash without it? i.e. would i be able to use netflix?

Only way to use Netflix is to use rooted stock, CM7 or the beta CM10. CM9 does not run Netflix.

Question regarding USB OTG

The USB OTG feature is ROM-side or Kernel-side feature ?
Right now I'm running PA 2.54 with M-Kernel Plus a11 and did the "Jay's Recipe for Buttery Goodness" .
Before this I was purelly 4.1.2 stock and USB OTG was working.I used to connect a flash drive and an external 1 TB HDD and access (read-only) the data via an app. called Nexus Media Importer and even trough ES File Explorer too.
Now it doesn't work anymore. The flash drive has a red light on it which blinks and now when I attach it it doesn't even turn On anymore. It used to do on Stock.
It has been stated countless times that Stickmount does not work with 4.2...That is until today when Stickmount was updated by the dev. It works now with today's update.

I'm sorry I forgot to mention that PA 2.54 is based on 4.1.2 , so it's the same base I had when I was stock.
Today after trying Nexus Media Importer and ES File Explorer, I tried Stickmount too.
I'm afraid you didn't understood my question.

[RESOLVED] External devices via usb (on Nexus 7 3G)

Hello,
First, I must say that I read many articles, tutorials and threads before, without any positive results so I decided to ask this question. I don't know why I cannot connect external device to my Nexus 7 3G (tilapia). Actually, my tablet's working on CyanogenMod 10.2 unofficial and is based on its kernel. It's even unable to detect device in recovery mode (I've flashed TWRP 2.6.1). I can add that I'm using otg-usb cable which has been included in my set of purchasing. I don't know is it important but my pendrive doesn't see to be ready to use while it's connected via cable because the micro diode is off wheres after connect to my computer it's always on (twinkle or shine). Of course I've installed StickMount app and others similar free for mounting devices and file explorers from Google Store. Additionally, Icon "Mount USB Storage" in Settings->Storage is constantly off (unable to touch). I'm waiting for your suggestions.
Thank you in advance for any replys.
EDIT.
I resolved it. The issue was responding to my cable. I've used the wrong one because I didn't know that it was from the other tablet than this one. I connected my device via new one and it's working perfectly now. Excuse for bothering you.

Problems with stock Nexus 10 4.3 USB

Hey all.
I have a 4.3 stock Nexus 10 that I'm having some problems with USB. I can create and modify folders using ES File Manager on my tablet, but when I try to view the USB of my Nexus 10 on my PC they don't show up. This is a problem as it means I can't modify/edit/delete etc the folders on my PC. Does anyone else have this problem, or a fix for it?
Thanks!

Hi,
Did you try another PC? This issue never happened to me before, but it looks like your PC isn't recognizing your tablet folders correctly. Does the folder still exists after you exit ES File Manager?

There are some limitations on the stock Nexus 10 when using a media server (i.e. MTP). Most Nexus devices that have a microSD card support MTP and provide full access via USB connection. Since the N10 does not have a microSD option, you don't have MTP support and have to use PTP instead as your USB connection which will only provide limited access. For rooted N10s there are other alternatives that can be found using a google search and/or these forums.
Because of this, I personally use an OTG connection to transfer large files or use AirDroid. In emergency situations, I have pushed and pulled files from the N10 using Nexus 10 Toolkit or Wugfresh's Nexus Toolkit.

Maybe you have "USB debugging" activated in Settings\Developer Options\Debugging. Turn USB Debugging OFF and your PC will see your N10.
Another possibility is the Drivers are not updated or not correctly installed in PC. Good Luck!
Hey all. I think it may just be an app-specific problem. I was using Manga+ to download manga, and whilst it'd show up in ES File Explorer, it wouldn't over USB. However, if I compressed the folder with ES File Explorer, it'd show up. Well, it's a pain but at least I can access the files. Thanks!

[Q] Mojo won't connect to PC and lacks sound! Help!

So i just got my MOJO and was in the process of rooting it but, i can't seem to get windows 7 to recognize the device when i connect it by USB. It always shows up as "unknown device". How do i get Windows 7 to recognize it?
Also i have another problem regarding sound....there isn't any. When i load up a video on the MOJO, or just try to do anything that would have sound, theres nothing. I have the sound at MAX using the CTRL gamepad controls. Still, nothing.
I knew the MOJO was going to be one of those devices you have to fight with in order to get it to do what you want but, this is worse than i expected.
Help?
It really is a terrible experience out of the box. We know who to blame Mad Catz!
For Windows to recognize it, you have to install ADB Drivers, try the ones from teamandroid: www teamandroid .com/download-android-usb-drivers/
You will have to locate the device in the windows device manager and install the drivers manually.
But you can root the mojo without conencting it to the pc. you can root it with towelroot (Version 1). you have to search with google for the apk. the newest version (3) and v2 won't work.
After that you can use Flashify to flash a custom recovery.
For the sound: do you have another hdmi slot at your tv? this sounds like a connection problem.

Try the driver from Samsung.
If they don't work, use the universal adb drivers: github.com/koush/UniversalAdbDriver
Towelroot would be much easier, you just install the App and klick one button (but only v1 works with mojo)

Thanks for the reply but i've tried all towelroot 1.0 as well as 3.0 and it did NOT work. I got an error saying, "This phone isn't currently supported". No matter which version i try.
Edit: Ok got it working! Turns out i was attempting the V2.0 & V3.0 versions. There are plenty of sites out there that would claim to have v1.0. However, once i downloaded and installed it, i'd see a "v2" or "v3" at the top of the screen.
In the end, I had to do a google search for a towelroot spefically for MOJO. Only then did i finally come across a site that had a legit v1.0.

Good job! I'm glad it worked in the end.
I also had to search a long time to find the correct tr version. But you will never need it again, once it's rooted. if you want to go back to stock, you can flash the original firmware with twrp, too!

Here was the thread it was in:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mad-catz-mojo/development/root-mojo-towelroot-one-click-t2799712
And the link for V1.0 in case anyone wants it. It was tough to find:

Ok so after a few hard weeks messing with this device, i've figured out ways to fix all its quirks, except for one: Not being able to connect to Pc. Thats annoying. I don't like having to remove my Micro SD card everytime i want to add more files.
Especially since this device was deigned in such a way that, its virtually impossible to remove without first removing the HDMI cable first. As they are sooooo CLOSE together.
Any suggestions for drivers? I just need it to function like a plain USB mass storage device, so i can access my Micro SD card on the Pc.
Yeah, the microSD is a pain to remove.. but I never need to touch it.
I don't understand why you want to access the SD via PC as a USB device?
To access the sdcard over wifi I use a SambaDroid server on the mojo pointed to the sdcard.. it works.

I want to be able to freely connect my MOJO by USB and drag & drop files at will to the Micro SD, without having to physically remove the Micro SD card each time (which also means unplugging the HDMI every time!!).
So far i'm enjoying the MOJO console as i've found fixes for every other problem i've run into. This is the only one that continues to elude me. I had not thought about the possibility of my Pc being able to connect remotely though wi-fi, to access the MOJO storage. This might be yet another out-of-the-box fix for me. Can you explain more about how this is done??

Not sure why you want to have a USB on the MOJO that way... the idea of MOJO(or any other topset box) is to keep it online next to your TV, I used to plug USB thumb drives into it.. but you never want to change microSD cards.. same like on a phone or tablet really.
Just install this on mojo:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=berserker.android.apps.sambadroid&hl=en
You can configure it so it shares a folder (google how to share folders on windows or youtube sambadroid).
You can use just the microSD (i think it's /mnt/card1) or the internal storage(i think /storage) or both using just /
I wouldn't do just / though.
It's pretty easy, just replicates windows file sharing and works well.
