[Q] Flashing modem. Do I need to be stock? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to flash the MGA modem to my phone. Was first wondering is it safe to flash the modem in odin while I have Philz recovery and foxhound rom or do I need to flash stock firmware in odin first then flash modem then re-flash Philz and rom? Thanks in advance.

You can flash the modem anytime without going back to stock, you won't loose anything

Great thank you glad I dont have to go back to stock recovery

I used ODIN to flash the stock firmware, tried triangle away, but still says custom for device status. Anyone know what I can do? Thanks
If you use this tar in Odin it should set you back to full stock and reset your flash counter..

Can't update OTR after flashing back original

I rooted my phone and install a custome rom but today I tried to flash back my original rom I backup and tried to update my phone through kies and it says my firmware can't update due to a change in my firmware. My phone is still rooted and I still have a custome recovery install. Is that causing the problem? Sorry I'm new to all this. Thanks.

That's exactly the issue. If your device status is listed as modified, then Kies will not work. You basically forfeit your option to update through that program. I think unrooting would help, or just wait and flash the new 4.3 ROM that will be available soon.
This should have been posted in q&a. It would be helpful to know what specific phone you have. You say you've flashed back to the stock Rom but you still have a custom recovery? How did you flash back to stock?

I have a Samsung galaxy s4 Im377. What I did was, I used twrp to restore back my original firmware I don't think that will restore back Odin back to my phone.

If you want to restore back to stock and remove the custom recovery you should use Odin. That should let you get the ota firmware upgrade.
So I have to use Odin to put back my original firmware? Also I'm not to sure how to put back Odin to stock recovery.

When you flash the stock firmware with odin it'll put the stock recovery back on at the time. You don't have to do anything special.

You don't flash the backup with odin. Get the stock firmware from sammobile.com for your specific device and carrier.
So I would download Odin to my pc than download and install the original firmware with odin? Do you have a step by step on flashing with odin? Thanks!

The attached guide is not for the i337 but the process is the same. Just don't use any linked files, except for Odin. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26056924

[Q] I need assistance please!

I want to update my i9505 to the latest android 4.3 through Odin but I don't want the new Knox bootloader, could someone please give me any instructions of how I could achieve this? I don't want to install the "custom" stock roms.
*EDIT*: Could someone also give me instructions on how to compile the edited firmware.
I tried to Google it but to no avail.
I shall be grateful to anyone who helps.

In order to remain on your old bootloader you will need to root. Any reason why you don't want to? Root, install a custom recovery then flash the pre rooted rom. They are stock based.

Thank you for your reply, I'm rooted with custom recovery. However I wish to create myself a Odin copy for emergency purposes, I currently have the official MGA firmware update for Odin. I want to create a Odin flash-able firmware update without the new bootloader,
EDIT: After going through the thread all the firmware files include the new know bootloader ;(
As far as I know you can't flash via odin. I suggest you flash the CWM version this has no bootloader. As your already rooted using the knox free cwm version is the safest bet at the moment.

No modem, you can install that separately via Odin as we can't flash modems using CWM. It contains stock rom and stock kernel.

Failed rom flashing result to stock on boot

Good to everyone!
My unit is gt-i9505... I flash bootloader and modem without any problem, then i am flashing the WanamLite roms, and it failed i dont know why... So i am trying to reboot my cp but it stock...
Please help me on my problem... tia
If you had flashed the bootloader and modem with Odin, then flash the recovery TWRP.
Boot into the recovery, fully wipe and then flash from the recovery Wanamlite.
Did the same procedure today and it works fine. Make sure your download is not corrupted.
I flash TWRP before i flash the bootloader and modem...
I boot it in recovery mode and wipe all and when i rebooting it says "you have no OS installed"
Im sure that my downloaded roms is not corrupted..
After wiping, you have to install the rom. You sure you did that?
That's what i did, bro, but still i got the failed error message when flashing the roms....
So just to summarize, you flashed these things:
You flashed this recovery:
http://fs1.d-h.st/download/00105/NcQ/TWRP_2.7.0.1_GT-I9505(jfltexx).zip
And then you flashed the rom from this page with the recovery:
http://wanamlite.com/2014/04/03/wanamlite-xxufnc5-v2-6-android-kitkat-4-4-2-xposed/
Try flashing the recovery again from the link I gave you. Then try to flash the rom again.
thank you so much for your response, bro...
for now, i reflash my unit to stock rom kitkat 4.4.2...
i'll keep this thread as my reference coz i really want to try that wanamlite roms....

The rom should boot even with the incorrect bootloader and modem. Here are the correct bootloader and modem though.
Use this bootloader:
http://goo.gl/5Sjj3L
And this modem:
http://goo.gl/CMl8N6
That are the ones Wanam tells you to flash in his page.
http://wanamlite.com/2014/04/03/wanamlite-xxufnc5-v2-6-android-kitkat-4-4-2-xposed/
I try it again and i still got the message with failed... I guess i need to download again the roms...
For the third time, i got it right...
I redownload the roms...
Thanks bro!

Device status remains custom after flashing stock ROM via ODIN

Hey peeps.
Having a small issue,
So I decided to go back to stock, I download the latest firmware from Sam firmware.
After flashing the firmware I go into the stock recovery to clear cache and wipe data factory reset. I then setup my phone like I would and after checking the status it says that it's custom.
Some background info - I was using a AOSP ROM before flashing the stock firmware and had my SD card during the flashing process.
Anyone have issues like this? Or any solutions?
Thanks.

I had it after updating from German stock rom (DBT) to Xuenc2 (ETL). When I installed the Xuend rom, status came back to official.
So do I have to root and install a NB7 custom ROM before flashing the stock BTU NB7 firmware?

Try Traingle away app then after reseting the counter and binary to official boot directly to download mod then flash stock rom via odin. if didn't work factory reset your device and flash the rom one more time. Hope it helps
