Edit:
Solved
I had on MF8 a strange problem and updated to MGA but my problem is still there.
Everytime i try to do a benchmark my phone just reboots itself.
It only last about 10 sekunds in antutu and in cf-bench before it just reboots.
I have no other problems with my phone or cpu so i have no clue whats going on.
I already searched the net and xda about this but found nothing.
I use the pre rooted and slim MGA rom from this thread -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250824
But like i said i had it on MF8 before too.
EDIT: tried quadrant and same happens,i tap full benchmark and it just powers off without any message
Anyone knows how to solve this?
Thanks in advance

Did you try to reinstall antutu benchmark ?. I think may be it has some error in the apps not phone

I tried it but didnt help, same behavior like before
Well.....somehow it doesn't happen if its charging.
My battery is at 20 percent so i don't understand why its rebooting at high load if it isn't powered

Delete the app and install again or
Delete cache or
Delete ram in stock task manager and try again or
Look for the installed app that might give the problem

Did it all im sure the reboots didn't have something todo with antutu since it happens on cf root too

Its the fault of the root, might brought a wrong code on the system, can be fixed by flashing a new rom, dont forget to backup ur stuff

Hmm dont think that root is my problem.
Isn't there anyone who had this issue and solved it?

Have you undervolted CPU?
Could be that when you try to put your phone under too much load it doesn't have enough volts to run benchmark so reboots.

I had it undervolted but long time ago, made since then about 10 factoey resets.
It seems that it has something todo with my battery cause sometimes my phone reboots with 80% battery and starts with 0%
and the other thing is that i have only these problems if not cbarging.
Bought a new battery at amazon by overnight express, will tell you guys tomorrow whats going on

Ok it was the battery, got my new one from amazon today and made all kinds of test, and there was no reboot.
Everything runs fine now like before.
I dont get how a 3 month old battery can die but im happy that it works now

same here, sometimes when I open the camera app my S4 freezes for few seconds and then reboots, not mentioning the overheating problem.
Samsung should release an update or something, it better be a S/W issue otherwise I will kill someone.
Do you have problems running Antutu benchmark?
I have the same symptoms as you describe and the one thing that makes my phone restart every time is running the Antutu CPU benchmark.
Everything is stock and yes the phone likes to reboots when I start the camera app. Not every time but like once out of 2 times

Hi MoHeadGeek,
Do you have any update on that?
Any updates on the reboot issue when using the camera? It is really annoying

Same here. I don't know if I should change my phone or it's just a software bug that they will solve soon...
For me, it also freezes+rebooted while in the gallery or even launching some app.
If everything is stock, unmodded, and you installed all available updates from Samsung I would go get a replacement.
If your phone restarts when you start the Camera it is a software issue
It happens due to low RAM [the irony that it is in S4 -_-]
They should fix it soon but if you need to immediately then go to development options, scroll all the way down and keep Max tasks to 4.
Read it somewhere it works
But I think you have to set again after maual reboot

I installed the german update and it fixed the problem.
The developers options didn't work for me when I was with the stock rom.

Hi there mate, if you have an SD card pull it out and see if it still gonna heat up because alot of people have been posted that removing and replacing it with another sd card should fix it.or either you can try put your phone on Power saving mode as well Have a nice day.
Thanks

I think this is normal for a quad core + 5" screen phone to heat up.
You could always disable 2 cores and it should run cooler.
Another obvious solution is to not use it so often

Hi, i've got my hands on a Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 running 4.2.2 MH6. Im updating it at the moment. but it reboots atleast 2 to 3 times a day. for no reason? it's not modded but AVG is installed. could that be the problem?
Can you make screenshots about your app launcher and sys info? Looks like some strange apps led to that. Or you can try to flash a Perseus kernel(or Adam,up to u).

Updated it to 4.3 but the problems are still there, it's under warranty. i noticed now that there was another problem. Network signal goes off then after some seconds it reboots as well. Should i turn it in again? it was just in for screen replacement! problems started after the screen was replaced! no problems before! it's a freind of mine that has this phone! and no he isn't going to mod his phone.
Anyone?

As already mentioned in other threads it's most likely that's the battery that needs to be changed due to a series of bad batteries that was shipped with the galaxy S4.
try it out with another battery and your problem will be solved

Try to change your battery and see whether it's still overheats.

I have 2 batteries. One gave me overheats, even though the battery itself is not bulged.
One totally no issues at all.
Same phone, same ROM, same setup, same etc.
You can give it a try. But then again, I might be wrong.
Technical issues can arises from a lot of factors anyway.
I will try, thank you so much for your reply

Try the old modem, the one you didn't have any issues. Otherwise it's samsung's crappy update.
Can i go back to that modem?? No risk?? I changed the csc, changed the sim, changed the carrier, changed 3 batteries... still blowing fire, 80c om the cpu... many times when i use my data plan

The only risk is signal issues.
So because of the modem i have the heating problems??

It may also the update.
What?

I may also be related to the lollipop update. Since you did mention that it didn't happen on kitkat. It only started happening since moving to lollipop. So it may also be the update. Go back to kitkat or change to a custom rom and see if it helps.
I tried all, just all custom roms with lolli

Hi guys, I bought the phone from someone with this issue. It gets hot very fast when I use it, also when in charge, so much that sometimes I can't touch it. The battery also drains very fast when it's in use. I tried every solution on Google I could find but no luck. It also won't power on without the charger being in even when battery is fully charged. I rooted it now and want to know if I install cyanogenmod Wil maybe resolve this issue? Thanks.

That is strange as the only time my N910C uses allot of power is when I play 3D intensive games on it or use to work on heavy tasks.
Could this be the motherboard that's faulty or something?

I also got my phone second hand from a guy and my phone also gets hot when making intensive tasks. I don't usually play games. But it gets hot when using location(Tinder). Is this related to ROM. I don't think it has to do with the motherboard although you should go and see a service!! Let me know what were your results. Thanks
Yeah, I'd take it to a Samsung Service Center and let them check it out. It could be the battery cable is loose.
So a custom rom won't fix?

I also had the same issue when i first bought my phone 4 month ago but after the latest update the over heat problem is gone. Try to flash the stock rom through odin. Battery problem your facing it could be from the battery calibration try to drain out the battery let drain fully if your phone switched off by itself try to power it on again for many times as possible then charge your phone while it's switched off for 2 hrs power on your phone and charge it again for 30 min hopefully this will resolve the battery calibration issue.

You should try it out. When i a got my SM-N910F, it was a real hot headed one (on Stock 5.0.1).
After flashing a custom rom, the tempratures dropped significantly.
Currently iam running a custom kernel and undervoltet slightly. The Phone is running cool and stable.

Depends. Only in case your problem is software related. In case of an hardware defect, a custom rom won't change anything. You should monitor your GPU and CPU usage of your device. You can use apps like cpu z to measure it. When the clock speed of you CPU is constantly high even with the simplest tasks, you can consider rooting your device, flashing a custom rom/kernel and try to reduce the clock speed. This may help keeping the temperature in check but won't do anything about defective hardware.
But, as you said, this problem persists even with stock firmware (maybe the guy you bought it from flashed the wrong firmware.....) this could only have 3 reasons: 1. defective hardware, 2. defective software/wrong firmware, 3. Some of your apps in the background is going crazy (try to use better battery stats or wakelock detector for that).
Good luck.
Tried to install cyanogenmod but I get error dm vertify verification failed with reboot. I Google it and tried everything but doesn't looked like there's a fix for this. Anyone had similar issue or have a solution for this pls? Thanks.
