Many uses I'm missing out on. Example if I'm browsing a site and want to open another window, what do I do?
Or
While in any app how would I access the menu or option settings?
What ROM are you using? If it's stock B&N software, is it rooted?
If you're using CyanogenMod, then you can turn on a set of buttons in the status bar that will replace the missing hardware buttons, much like on a Honeycomb device. It's in the Settings menu under Tablet Tweaks.
If you're using stock, you can install an app called SoftKeys or Button Savior and have it pop up a set of on-screen keys (menu, search, back, home, etc) whenever you press the "n" hardware button. You won't be able to install either unless you've rooted the device first, though.
Two applications: Button Savior or Soft Keys
I'm probably in the minority here, but I'm a big fan of zMooth.
You could also search for Nook Color keysmod and remap one of your volume buttons as Menu.
Keysmod is what works best. You'll have both menu and back buttons that's so convenient especially in landscape. Partner it with recent plus for adjusting volumes in-game and invisibright whenever you can pull up your notification bar.

I use "Virtual Button Bar" in MIUI. it can be set to extend the buttons from a trigger point, or to be permanently extended and float.
On my Galaxy S5, I seem to run into a handful of apps that seem to push the idea of having a dedicated menu soft/hardware button to get to futher menu options.
Obvious the S5 has a Recent apps button in place of a menu button, holding the recents button triggers the Menu-button command and brings up an apps' menu.
The amount of time you have to hold down the recents button for the secondary Menu-button function to trigger is horrifically obnoxious. In cyanogenmod, the delay is much, much shorter and makes working with the menu-button a whole lot more swift.
I know that with xposed framework mods and whatnot, you can switch the function of the recents button. I do use recents a LOT more than Menu so it'd be nice to be able to find out how to change the stock firmware's alternate-button delay time.
I've been digging around in settings databases in SQ Lite editor for a while to no avail.
Anyone willing to help figure this out is greatly appreciated.
I want to see an option to turn on/off the volume panel to always be expanded when I press volume buttons or change volume in the system. It's kinda useful. I remember using this feature in xposed, on marshmallow. Please do it for us!
How modify remappings of volume buttons for track switching and add option for screen on. Using a simultaneous combination of volume up/down and power button. I have a specific need.
All custom roms sac supermaambasadi etc have this actions but where can i edit them?
There's an app called Bixby Button Remapper on play store, try it out.
The recent update changed the action taken when pressing the volume button
Previously, the buttons changed the volume based on the application that was in use:
- FB Messenger / WhatsApp / Text Msg, etc.. it changed the Notification volume
- Music, Videos etc.. it changed the Media volume
- General pages - it changed the ringtone volume
Now, the user needs to change each type of volume manually: Click the volume button, drop down the list of various volume items, and change each individually
Can the prior, app-volume type specific control be reinstated?
