The recent update changed the action taken when pressing the volume button
Previously, the buttons changed the volume based on the application that was in use:
- FB Messenger / WhatsApp / Text Msg, etc.. it changed the Notification volume
- Music, Videos etc.. it changed the Media volume
- General pages - it changed the ringtone volume
Now, the user needs to change each type of volume manually: Click the volume button, drop down the list of various volume items, and change each individually
Can the prior, app-volume type specific control be reinstated?

When I press the volume button on the side of the TD2 it brings up the onscreen bar, but it defaults to changing the ringer volume, is there a way to make it change the system volume instead as default, without me having to touch the screen??
Thanks

NO, that's exactly what Steev24 discribed, when having 2 separate volume indicators the Call volume is being changed when pressing vol up/down instead of the System volume.
Anyone else a idea?
Try getting a "HTCVolumeControl.dll" from a Touch HD (Blackstone) I remember they had the configuration the opposite to that of TD2, but you might lose the single volume control option.
Hi
in manila setting tab, i separate ring volume ang sysyem volume. (like original state of WM or like diamond TF3d and ... )
yhe problem is that , when i want to change the volume, by pressing key, ring volume tab apears. and i must press system tab (from top) and then change volume.
is it possible that when i press volume key, the system volume tab apear directly.
tnx
Hi, I had the same issue. Actually I partially solved it by using a software called AE Button Plus to remap every physical button, including the volume ones. Actually, I "reassign" volume keys to control volume and allowed them to control the SYSTEM volume directly, not using that annoying grey window.

I am working and wish to lower my Galaxy Note's overall notification sound including incoming calls, sms, whatsapp, etc... I pressed the volume button on the side to like 2/7 of the bar. The incoming calls sound seems lowered but not the sms/msg sounds. What settings should I change in order to have the whole device's sounds controlling all at once?
menu > settings > sound > volume > notification
edit:
Sorry, I didn't completely read your post.
There's an app called audiomanager and it allows you to link your ringer volume with your notification volume.
thanks for your answer.
I mean there is no way to control the in-coming call + notification sound in 1 button? I pressed the volume up and down key on the phone only can control the in-coming ringtone I thought most phone can do that but not this Note. am I right?
So confirmed there is no way the side up and down volume button can control both ringtones and notifications sounds at once?
I want to design an app to avoid this accidental long press on the volume button to avoid music volume's sudden increase.
In the activity, I can manage to do that by simply override the onKeyDown method.
However, in the background, there is no way to monitor the hardware key press (At least what I have found). I have tried several ways:
Use ContentObserver to monitor the volume change at background, then adjust the music volume back to original. It works, however, the system's music volume will always be increased first then adjusted back. I know several other existing app can already do this, but I don't want to do this. The small gap is very annoying if you keep pressing the volume button.
I tried to fire the main activity in the content observer (since I can override the volume key in the activity), however, it is still not simultaneous. It is even worse. Because it takes a longer time to start the activity.
So is there any other suggestion that I can overcome this problem? If I can root my phone, is it possible to monitor the key press at background?
Also, if there is no way to override the volume button at background, is there any way to set the max volume for the stream_music?
Appreciated!
I don't know, but I have an idea for you maybe:
You can use WindowManager to add Views from service, maybe these can access onKeyDown?
Kind Regards
Stock unrooted MIUI 10.2.7.0. The ringer volume seems to be tied inseparably to the media volume. Changing them separately through settings or the quick menu when pressing the rocker does not work. They show as their respective settings, but ringer operates at whatever level the media is set to.
Am I missing something, or is this just a bug? Others have this issue?
