Petition to save my retinas - Shield General

I have root. For the love of god please assist me with disabling this giant green light that offends and assaults me poor eyes while I'm trying to enjoy Link's Awakening before bed.

Ahh, Link's Awakening. Probably my favorite gameboy game.

I've been linking into the past on SuperGNES Emultator. and in the past there were no neon lights...
ok except in my FACE
how about backlightning all the other controls, thats be neat.

IMHO the default LED brightness (max) is way too bright. In daylight, you don't really need to see it. At night, it's just uncomfortable.
I dropped the LED brightness down to about half, which seems to be the sweet spot for my eyes.

I just put it to be barely on, so that way it's not blinding at night, but still visible

Front Panel Lights

I've had my Incredible for a days now. I'm also new to Android. Can anyone tell me the logic with the front panel lights? I would like to have them on more often, including in low light situations. Is there a way to enable this? Thanks.
you mean the home menu etc buttons? aren't those always on as long as the screen is?
Those lights time out .

On mine they sometimes are on and sometimes never come on. Since I got home they have been on constantly. I was in a coffee shop last several hours and they never came on. Just tried turning room lights off to bright but no change. makes no sense.
They should come on automatically when the lighting darkens to a certain point.

Precisely. Pitch black room as I type and the lights haven't gone off since the screen has been on.

You can simulate this by putting your thumb over the sensor. There are two circles that can be seen on the left hand side of the Verizon logo at the top of the phone. Cover them with your thumb and it will turn them on.

Is there a way to turn these off? They're annoyingly bright in dark rooms.

You want to turn them completely off? Doesn't it turn off when the phone goes to sleep?
Yeah I want to be able to turn them off at will. I like using an ereader and at night I turn the screen brightness way down but the leds from the front panel lights are too bright to read in the dark comfortably.

I'm with you on this one - would love to disable the lights when in a reading program ....
Maybe change the autobrightness settings off auto.
Autobrightness doesn't affect the front panel leds.

I realize now they are activated by low ambient light. The label is set too low for my liking though. Would be nice if we could control this setting.

Does your notification bar

Control your brightness when you slide your fingers across the top of it from left to right?
Mine does and I'm not sure if it did the first few days or even if it is supposed to....
Thanks
It only does it if auto brightness is off.

I was just gonna post I found that out too.. Thanks now I know my device isnt defective...
Holy crap, that's awesome! Finding out new cool **** with this phone everyday!
Cool. Nice find with that one. I just use the power settings widget to switch between the set brightness levels (keeping it on the lowest setting).
This was a thread in the Galaxy S forum and I tested it to make sure it worked on mine a few hours ago
Great find, thanks.
I am getting use to touch wiz. I don't know why people don't like tw. It has some good feature s.

Wow, that's seriously awesome. Now I have no need for the automatic brightness, which always seems to keep the screen darker than I'd like.
This is pure awesomeness now that I know about this! I had just added the Power Control Widget so I could turn brightness up/down whenever I needed to. This is much, much easier and what I wanted since I can control everything else from the notifications already and faster.
My screen has randomly brightened or dimmed and I didn't know why. This explains a lot.

Same here. All of a sudden it would be to the lowest brightness level then it'd be the highest and I'd be so confused on why it kept changing.
@sl8125: People didn't like TouchWiz because the previous version of TouchWiz was awful.

Dim notification light

My notification light is quite dim, is this normal? Seen a YouTube video and their green light looks much brighter than mine.

sounds like a personal problem
Yeah I think it is normal.
Yes, I am pretty sure it is normal. If you look closely you can see that the light is under a pattern that sort of matches the Google Now launch pattern.
I think its because of the glass being polarized. It actually creates a nice glow effect for the notification light in my opinion.

I actually prefer the dimmer light on the N4. Notifications were way too bright in my GNex IMHO.

Yes the G2 has a very dim brightness on 1% and also with inverted colors in accesibility click the name not the on or off button to make it dimmer grab it about the bottom middle of that screenshot and drag it down untill you match the blue color on the status bar all the way on the bottom... it keeps your colors the same but your blacks are darker makes for an even dimmer screen... have taken it to a movie theater and get no complaints its as if ts not even on
One of the brightest displays I've used no joke first time I turned the brightness up to 100 my eyes started watering no joke.
Sent from my LG-VS980 using Tapatalk
I seldom feel the need to run the brightness above 85% except outside on a sunny day. If you are an auto-brightness user, Lux is practically mandatory. LG's auto-dimming logic is horrible. It's got a, maybe, ±20% range.

Image burn question

Anyone have image burn yet? I already have the top bar burned in my screen from lack of rotating the screen. I got my device release date and used auto brightness since.
I've had s3 s4 and n2 and haven't had an issue so quickly before
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk 2
Launch day device here. Full brightness about 90-95% of the time. Auto for remaining. Not a single issue with image burn. 5-6hrs screen on time every day.

Yeah that's crazy. My friend uses full brightness since launch day and doesn't have an issue either. And uses it for at least 3-4 hrs a day. But maybe he rotated his screen more often or didn't leave it on as long

Haha yeah I work in an EXTREMELY WELL LIT medical device manufacturing plant. Its like being outside in the sun, which ironically, you'd think would need less brightness but just the opposite is true.
Using Nova Launcher, I turned Status Bar to transparent. Dont have to worry about a bar at the top and it just plain looks better being transparent.

Same here I'm either at school or at work at the hospital most of the time and my phone is on automatic but it's always on full brightness and I have no burn in issues.

Check out the screen burn in tool in the app store. Not a lot of downloads but good reviews after letting it run on low brightness over night.
