Can somebody help take some screen shots about CMW Recovery 6.0.3.2(0611)?
Because I dropped my phone on the floor and the screen it's not lighting up again. I can't see anything.
I need to get back my file in phone. If I got screen captures of recovery then I can follow the capture to connect usb storage and adb to get my files. Thanks a lot.

Hello,
I just got my Hero this weekend and I was interested in partitioning the SD Card. I have been following a guide and when I boot into recovery(Screen that shows phone with triangle and exclamation point) the computer does not seem to see the Hero anymore.
When I plug the phone in while it is running Android the computer picks it up fine in Device manager. Once I type adb shell reboot recovery it boots into the screen the computer no longer picks it up. I have tried unplugging and replugging the USB cable while in the recovery screen but still get nothing. If I type adb devices before I run the recovery command I am able to get the serial number, once it boots into the recovery screen it no longer shows me the serial number when I type in adb devices. But this is due to it no longer being picked up once in the recovery screen.
I'm not really sure what I am doing wrong here. Can anyone help me get this issue sorted out?
I have tried it on Windows 7 and read that a lot of people had issues with the syncing so I just finished attempting it on an Windows XP machine and still get the same issue.
One more thing, when in the recovery screen the phone does not respond to the power button anymore. It seems almost like it locks up or something. The only way I can get back out of the screen is by taking the battery out and putting it back in. Is this normal?
Any help would be really appreciated!
Thank you,
Mizex
You need to root the phone and install the recovery partition first.

Exactly what jonnythan said. If your recovery screen shows the triangle then you haven't installed a modified recovery image yet. Follow any of the guides on this site for rooting.
Oh wow I feel dumb the guide I was following said nothing about the phone needing to be rooted. I attempted to follow a 1 click root and while attempting to do the backup step I get a message saying that it can't complete the command. According to the guide if I get this error then it means I have a patched firmware and need to downgrade to a cupcake firmware.
Anyone know of a good guide for doing the downgrade? Or can perhaps share a bit of knowledge on the error?
Hello,
I just came back from my honeymoon and all of my pictures are on my N4. Of course before I pull the pictures, I drop the phone is the screen is cracked and the touch does not work anymore.
I'm really desperate to get these pictures. I've read all over online but my problems are this with all of the help out there:
My phone is the latest 4.4.2 on T Mobile.
It has stock EVERYTHING (bought straight form google), and the USB debugger is not enabled. (next phone I get this is the first thing I'm enabling.
I've been trying to follow instructions online but a lot of items have changed between last year and Kit Kat now and some steps such as unlocking the bootloader seems to wipe out everything on my phone.
I've been trying to use ADB and Freeboot but really havent gotten anymore.
I've also read that I can maybe use a usb mouse to substitute and unlock my phone? USB OTG? How do I know if my nexus has that enabled?
I'm even considering getting a new screen so I can try to replace the current one and get my photos. I dont care what happens to the phone but the pictures are priceless to me.
Is there any thread or guide that incorporates 4.4.2? the more detail the better of course.
Much thanks in advance.
have u tried getting into stock recovery ?, and pulling files with ADB ??

Thank you for the quick reply.
I do manage to get into stock recovery, I get past the green guy lying on his back, though the method isnt always reliable. I get to the screen where it gives you the options to reboot, apply update from ADB etc.
I select to apply ADB file and it says "now send the package you want to apply..."
However, when I go into the command prompt on my PC, and type ADB devices, and nothing shows.
Do I need to install the drivers that makes the phone a ADB device and not the normal MTP device?
Thank you.

Yes u need proper adb setup on ur pc ..
U can find and install nexus 4 drivers with adb setup from this forum threads..
After u have done that check if you can find ur device using adb from recovery..
If u can find the device by recovery .. Then rest is easy ..
Just follow this link afterwards

Thank you for your help. However, while I have gotten ADB to recognize and list the device, I still have the same problem in that I cant unlock my phone using the screen and so when type something like "adb pull /sdcard/dcim/, i get "error closed"
Is there anything more I can do? These photos are priceless to me.
Thanks.

Get the screen replaced, or do it yourself. ADB in the stock recovery is very limited to "adb sideload" commands only, you can't pull files this way.

I have same problem with broken screen, i bought for 56$ full kit on ebay, no need separate glass from screen. took me 1h20min, never done before but what a relief seeing everything working
You do not need USB debugging to transfer files. On windows, open file explorer and with your nexus 4 connected it should appear on the left side as Nexus 4. Or if you have osx use http://www.android.com/filetransfer/.
Hi, I have a S4 i9505 with a problem, screen broken and no display at all + usb debugging is disabled.
Phone: Not rooted, original software, usb debugging disabled, no display at all
What I want to achieve: restore all my photos / videos on the phone memory, no sd card
What I have attempted:
installed ADB & fastboot based on instructions from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2786395
What I need help with:
- When i try to get into recovery mode, i wasn't sure if i am indeed in there since i can't see anything, but in total there's a vibration when i turn on the phone, and another vibration when i release the power up+power+home after pressing them down for about 5 seconds.
- When in command prompt I type adb devices and there was none, and when i type adb shell it says error: device not found
I have ensured all drivers for my phone are installed (even with PdaNetA4180 & UniversalAdbDriverSetup6 from cynanogen) but the error remains. refer to attached image.
I have done extensive search on the forum but still couldn't find any ways to get usb debugging enabled on my crippled phone.
Any step by step guide would really be helpful! Thanks
Ps. Main problem = device not found in adb , usb debugging disabled, screen no display/cracked
What do you want? To recover files? To my knowledge that is not possible.
You would first need to flash a custom recovery for adb to work in recovery.
Then you would need to allow the connection on your device (which you can't do).
Yes I need to recover photos only. Nothing else.
Please kindly guide the steps on how to flash a custom recovery (w/o control of the phone's display or touch)
Thanks.
Your device is shown connected in windows
Why not use the mtp protocol and copy whatever you want
Hi, in the beginning, my phone is locked with a pattern pin.
I read the tutorials and managed to get away with the pattern pin by resetting my phone to factory settings via recovery mode i guess by watching youtube guide.
I didn't knew the photos and all will get deleted off from it, so there's nothing to transfer over when i got MTP working and able to access files inside the phone.
What do you recommend? Would fixing the screen and then using dr fone recovery works? or is there any other way to solve this without getting the phone display fixed? Thanks.
If the photos are deleted by the factory reset then i am sorry to day but you cannot recover them even if you get the screen fixed

Your photos are gone and there is no way to get them back.
Hey everyone!
Just a few days after ordering a different phone which should get here tomorrow, I managed to drop my N4 and shatter the screen. The screen 'works' but the digitizer's broken below the crack so I can't get past the lock screen. I'm running Cyanogen mod and I honestly just want to get a few files off and update a few things onto drive so I can move to my new phone.
I was really hoping USB OTG would work, but I tried an external mouse with the right cable and the cursor wasn't showing up.
I don't think I have debugging mode enabled unless it carries forward if you update cyanogen. I do have CWM recovery 6.0.5.1. I tried mounting the drives through this, but it sadly didn't show up.
Is there any way I can enable USB OTG or get the files off without replacing the screen assembly? I tried using ADK Studio but I couldn't even get the command prompt open... If anyone has a link to a good walkthrough for this or suggestions for what I can do I'd be really grateful. Is there any way to force the USB OTG driver onto the phone? If I can use a USB keyboard/mouse combo to get everything off that would be the simplest way I think. Or if there's some way to get into the phone and have the display show up through my monitor, then that'd be great too.
Thanks a lot. I really appreciate any help.
You could try flashing twrp in place of cwm to mount the data partition.

I can hit mount and unmount through CWM but nothing seems to happen. Nexus shows up as an empty device.
How would i flash TWRP at this point? Is there a way to push a zip into the phone if I can't get into it?

If your physical buttons work then simply boot into fastboot by holding volume down and power and flash a TWRP recovery via fastboot. I've never had luck with CWM when it comes to reading files. TWRP opens up Android File Transfer right away on my Macbook when I connect it (Should do the same for Windows, not sure what OS you use)

This seems promising, but how would I get it in via fastboot? Sorry I've never used fastboot before, but use the power+vol down command pretty often.
Would that also allow me to flash in the zip for USB otg once I'm in?

Ok, you will want to be on your computer to do this. Download the latest TWRP recovery, which is here, you'll want to download the twrp-3.0.0-0-mako.img at the top of the list. You'll then have to open up fastboot in terminal/command prompt, and when you boot into your bootloader by holding volume down+power, connect your N4 and first I would type fastboot devices to make sure that your computer is recognizing that it's attached. Next type fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.0-0-mako.img and afterwards use the volume buttons to navigate and reboot to recovery. From there see if it connects to your computer and you can view files and if not, move forward with the USB otg. I have no experience with USB otg so I can't help you there, but hopefully this helps out at the very least!

Take a watch through this entire video, it's the most in depth one I can find that actually gives examples on things dealing with ADB and of course Fastboot. Make sure that the recovery .img is in the same directory that the fastboot prompts are in. If I didn't use OS X I'd walk you through it myself but I apologize there because I know the setup and way you enter commands is slightly different on Windows xD
Thank you! I'll give it a try!

I have finals next week so I was going to give it a try afterwards or if I get a study break. I'll definitely keep you posted on this thread though.
Thanks again!
HI XDA!
So I broke my screen, NO DISPLAY, NO TOUCHSCREEN.
But phone turns on, goes to TWRP all great and stuff.
I've been trying to "Unlock" the Pattern unlock to get into the phone. But sadly I have a few hurdles:
1. Cannot run ADB when the phone is ON, (Only works in Recovery)
2. I have USB Debugging OFF. I wish it was on, I'd easily have this working then : https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2786395
Can anyone guide me a way how to properly work USB Debugging? I'm planning on upgrading my phone anyway so I'd like the important data that I had for years.
Thanks!!!
Found a lead. Maybe I'm on to a fix: Post #5 at https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335799
However I have 2 issues:
1. after entering "su" it says "su : not found"
2. Also, upon entering the command for Mount I get "mount: can't find /system in /proc/mounts" (Most probably due to the SU not being found)
Please help!
Thanks

While in TWRP you have MTP automatically. You can see your entire Android file system on your PC and transfer any files you need off. All you need to do is boot into TWRP. You don't even need to navigate anywhere, just load TWRP and it WORKS. If it doesn't then you have another problem.

I appreciate the quick response!
Whilst in TWRP MTP Mode. I can very well view all the files etc, but when i transfer them (e.g if i tranfer Photos) it tranfers like 2-3 photos and then stops the rest saying "Device Unresponsive" or something like that.

I can appreciate you trying to squeeze every last bit of data from your phone, but If you don't have a stable Recovery environment you can't expect MTP or ADB to work properly? Adding heat to the back of the phone with a heat gun (or blow dryer) may help, but your phone is already finished. Good luck! :good:

Hmmm. I don't think the Recovery's got to do with this issue. I'll try changing the Laptop. I know its still alive! (Btw i still don't understand the concept of the heatgun)

Well of course start there if you had not already ruled out the basics by changing PC/cables ! If you were using USB-C to USB-C, try using a USB-A to USB-C. If Recovery mode is still erratic after ruling those things out, the problem could be hardware related. The phone could start bootlooping during data transfer and you don't realize it due to the dead screen. The heat gun has been used by people who have the BLOD to force the phone into low power mode (limp mode) so it is only running on 4 cores.
