As the topic says I'm thinking about getting a Nexus 4. I currently have a Note 2 on AT&T and I bought that because I didn't want to spend the money on a tablet.
Now I have a new nexus 7 and this phone in all honestly is too big at times. I'm always on WiFi at work or at home so the LTE is not that important to me. My question is if the N4 is still a good buy? I'm planning on selling my Note 2 on eBay and paying for the nexus with that money. Any advise is greatly appreciated!

Most peeps love their Nexus 4....its all up to what you prefer. However, the lack of LTE on the nexus is a draw back .....being on WiFi all the time, it is not missed. Runs like a top and you don't need to worry about not getting updates...runs android the way Google intended and does it well

Thanks for the fast response, LTE would be a drawback if I used it a lot but my company gives us WiFi access and I have access at home of course.

I had a Galaxy s3 but was tired of waiting for AT&T and updates, because of my limited funds it was either a old Galaxy Nexus or the N4, because of the old processor and the problems that I read on XDA about the Galaxy Nexus and how it was having problems with 4.3 the N4 was a no brainer and since LTE was no big deal for me I went with the N4 and took delivery last Friday and Google is sending a Bumper with all N4's for a limited time. It is a great phone my only worry is the glass back but I am sure with time that will fade away.
Can't vouch for AT&T 3g, as I am on T-Mobile, but for the price I could not find a better phone to buy unlocked at full price.
If I had to sign up for a contract anyways to get the service I required, Ii would haves chosen something else if the price was right.
It is a great, phone, but there is better out there depending on your circumstances.
I need unlocked to use international, and I had been on AT&T prepay 10 cent a minute plan before I purchased and switched to T-mobile. For the amount of talk and data I use, the $30 100 min voice / unlimited data & text T-mobile plan and a nexus 4 from the play store made more sense, especially since AT&T did away with pay-per use data, or any data at all unless you buy a monthly talk package.
The T Mobile 3g is plenty fast, but seems to get a bit overloaded in the afternoon in my area. I tried a nexus 4 and an S4 LTE in a couple of stores side by side, and in the good 3g areas there was no difference, but in my local store the LTE was more consistent and faster in the afternoons when the system seems to get more use.
I had a Note 1 before I jumped off onto a Nexus 4. I am much happier now. Nexus 4 is the first android phone that I have been fully happy with. I am still mostly stock but have rooted for the sake of security and backup. It's the only phone that I have not had to reboot for 20+ days. With Note 1, the stock Touchwiz was unbearable and old, and CM 10.1 rebooted four times a day.
I came from Gnex which I thought no phone would be any better in terms of quality. The n4 matches if it not exceeds it. Not to mention, it is also faster
A Nexus 4 has lte if you're on t mobile and Canada. Just flash a hybrid radio and build prop edit as well as lte apn and you'll get lte if there's lte in the area.
Personally, I'd wait for the Nexus 5 because it's just around the corner.

depends how much you care about internet speed
I personally couldn't possibly care less about the lack of LTE
Simple you either want LTE or you don't.
If you can live with slower speeds then go for the N4, if you need the LTE then most obvious choice is not to purchase.
Not sure how 3g speeds are in the States as we've only just got LTE in the UK so not much use to us having LTE phones as of yet.

LTE is not important to me and that's why I'm getting it on first day!
HSDPA is still pretty damned fast for web browsing. Unless you're download big files, not much benefit to LTE.
like said above, if you care about speed and your area has LTE, ignore Nexus 4, else buy it. Simple. I sold my S3 as I can live with HSPA.

Are you in contract with AT&T? If so, you will be limited to 3G and that would be a huge step backwards for you. If you are not on contract, see how TMobiles HSPA +42 coverage looks in your area. If you can get a strong signal, I don't think it will be as much of a deal breaker as just 3G would be.
Either way, your current speeds are ridiculous!.
I'm in Boston and can't even get 1mb/s on 3G. I cannot wait for the Nexus 4, I have excellent HSPA +42 coverage at my house and work :cyclops:
The lack of LTE is sad, but I've decided that I can live without it for a year. The benefits of Nexus software outweight the crazy fast download/upload speeds.
Furthermore, the low (comparatively) off-contract price and high resale value of Nexus phones makes this a low-risk purchase.
N ot that I have one, but I prolly wouldn't update If I had one.

V exing question none the same.
E ventually you'll come to an answer I am sure.

O utside viewing angles are great on the phone I hear.
U nderstand its a question of what you want.
U nder these circumstances I can certianly see your delima tho.
P hone changing is cereal budniss.
LTE doesn't matter to me, why? Because I'm not paying the outrageous prices per month that contract plans come with for 1 person. Its a easy $90+ per month and then you don't even get unlimited minutes and get a usual crappy 2GB mobile data.
The nexus 4 I think will help usher in prepaid plans into the U.S.A and the value it brings.
Straight Talk $45/month unlimited and T-Mobiles $30/month will highly be used on this new phone.

Prolly more noticeable on a PC.
I'm getting the same speeds around Woodbridge NJ, but my battery drains so fast you can watch it die out. I'd gladly give up LTE for a battery that lasts from the time I wake up to the time I go to sleep.

I would not mind it either but I am reading the battery life is not that good on the Nexus 4.
If I take the plunge and accept losing the lte speed and the battery life is not good
that would be a major disappointment. What do you think?

rick roll reference?
Fact - Most 24 hour reviews can't measure battery performance well at all. Sites that have had the phone for a week+ say battery life is fine.
Fact - LG has historically had horrible battery life.
Honestly, the best thing to do is NOT order it right away, but wait a month or two for QC issues to pass and see what longer term results look like with the phone. That being said, we all know that most of us are going to jump on the N4 the first day or so, caution be damned. At least we'll be able to sell it for CLOSE to what we paid if we're not happy.

I'm really t tempted to cancel my Verizon contract sell my s3,buy a nexus4 and switch over to straight talk. but I'm kind of scared I'll lose my number or something will go wrong while setting it up and i won't have any service.
Anyone know if switching to straight talk from Verizon is a rather painless process?and what about Verizon's ETF? Do they send you a bill or can you party it off online?

Personally I think it's stupid to cancel your contract, sell your phone, and then buy a new phone on a pre-paid plan like Straight Talk in an attempt to save money. For one, the ETF is going to kill you (I have a $225 ETF on Verizon and only 4 months left), then you have the hit on selling your phone and buying a new N4. It will take months to make up the fees you were charged by leaving Verizon early, mean time you will be paying that off while having slower speeds, worse customer service, and no store that you can walk into if you're having an issue and get a replacement phone right then and there.
I want a N4 as well, but I think I'll get one and then just pop in a T-Mobile or Straight Talk SIM when I feel like trying out T-Mobile or AT&T, the rest of the time I can just tether.
Hey guys, long time lurker infrequent poster. I recently got my nexus (loving it by the way) but there is 1 thing that I have noticed that kind of bugs me. Noticed everytime I'm connected to my data connection my signal bars go down considerably. (No data i get full bars 95%of the time, with hspa or hspa+ im lucky to get even 1) This will happen whether i disable my data in the settings, or connect to wifi.
I am kind of new to the whole unlocked device idea having to add the APN settings and what not, and I definitely did not have this problem with my last two devices. (Galaxy S i9000, Galaxy Nexus) if anyone has some insight that'd be great, I'm going to head down to my carrier store tomorrow, to see if they might be able to help me ( chances are probably not they're pretty useless)

Are you using a new carrier, for you? T-mobile maybe? Are you indoors?
The nexus 4 generally has very good reception, unless their is so,ethi g wrong with the device.
If your a new t-mobile customer building penetration can be low compared to other carriers.
Outside, inside, happens everywhere. And I'm on Bell. Same plan, same carrier as my last two phones.

I noticed some issues as well, but only on custom ROMs. My only conclusion is that it was something with the APN. I googled and found some APN settings to try, which has really helped me. For me, it was mostly with 3g to hspa switching, it'd toggle back and forth and would time data out. Since I've changed those, works much better. I'm on T-Mobile though.

Does anyone here use the att mnvo Net10? I'm looking to switch out from tmobile and straight talk is out of the question now how is the service? How is the customer service? How was the porting time?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Data is completely useless for me, so is their customer service. The only way to speak to anyone is to send them an email and wait for them to call you in a day.I hold a signal just fine and have tried all the apns I can find but its impossible for me to even get close to my 1.5GB limit when I can't even load a web page or refresh my weather. Gophone was much better for me and that's what I'll be going back to. I've heard gophone has less coverage than post paid att contracts, but I can't notice any less coverage where I am. I should note that these are only mine and my wife's experience, it might work awesome for you.
Ugh why couldn't straight talk just be available instead! Would make life so much easier!!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I was in the same boat. Att's gophone isn't bad if you are ok with using VoIP if you use more than 250 mins. If you find something else that works really good for you, I'd love to know, just so I have some usable options.
Well my experience was the opposite I think att sucks in Miami, dropped calls and data is slower and now you have a data cap no thanks. Only problem I see with T-Mobile and this is even on my postpaid is data is fast but sometimes you try to connect to something and it just never goes and times out. CS told me its because whenever someone requests internet you get pushed to the back of the list and best thing is to turn data on and off again. It sucks I know but att is worse in my experience and way better than sprint.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
I appreciate the input... Here in new Haven ct att is awesome though, which really influences my decision... I love the T-Mobile speeds but the coverage is garbage at best...

I am doing this because i have seen many negative reviews for NET10 and would like to share my experience...Just ported over from the T-Mobile $30 plan to the net10 $50 unlimited plan for both my lines last night at around 6pm. Bought the sims at best buy for $15 (3 pack - 2 at&t, 1 micro and one regular, and one regular T-Mobile one) and the unlimited for two lines card ( I believe it was $90 there)... ported over my lines and took all of a half hour to port... Had to call customer service a few times with questions (once was my fault as I accidentally used the T-Mobile Sim instead of the at&t Sim) and they were super helpful. The service is fantastic, not one dropped call or dead zone and I'm getting 2-3 Mbps, which is a fine trade off from T-Mobile. I could get 12 mbps with T-Mobile but never had any service indoors.
I give net10 two thumbs up so far... Will update with any new info or bad news.
Edit: I would also like to say that I traveled the northern corridor of CT today with a branch out to Bristol and almost full bars HSPA the entire time... My battery is in heaven.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Anyone have recent experiences with either? Obviously, I am on sprint, but was thinking of making the switch. It would probably save me around 60 a month from sprint since I have two lines...and thats even with my discount with Sprint. Basically, I just want to know about service and coverage in general. Was there a difference in signal between the two in your everyday activities? I still want a slider phone and you can get a cheap and clean mytouch 4g slide for around 150. I want to stay with the slider and the upfront cost of the phone and savings with tmobile would pay for itself in 5 or 6 months. Plus i do not think a decent slider will be released anytime soon. Thoughts? Thanks in advance

I convinced my girlfriend to switch to TMobile from at&t. She gets decent downlink speeds on their hspa+ (about 12mbps in certain areas) and her coverage is pretty good. Sprint sucks in my opinion, having been on their network in the past and having reports from my brother (also on sprint). I would switch, especially if it will save you money and you don't have an etf.

I love T-Mobile. In my area they blow sprint completely out of the water. Fastest download speeds ive had werr around 15-16 mbps wherr with sprint in the same places od get 300kbps...only thing i dont like about T-Mobile is the truly unlimited plan is 70 per month.

T-Mobile is good if your in an area with decent coverage. But they are areas coverage isn't good. Where I live it is great. Even in smaller rural towns. Seemed to be similar in Arizona and California. Went to Michigan and it was horrible in Lansing. All depends on your area.

Yeah...that's what I've been reading. Do you think the htc 4g slide is still a decent phone? I know they are still pretty active with the development of it. But it is almost two years old. But it is a hard deal to pass up for 150. I think the newest tmo slider is the Samsung relay, but the support for it is small.
Yeah, sprint service is hit or miss by the day and the data is really slow. Coverage really hasn't been an issue with sprint as it has been great, but the data speed varies tremendously.

But in all seriousness they have tons of ports most of them have broken features. And that's not taking a shot at the Team SwArM because I am still with them just haven't devved in a while.
Battery life on the newer JB ROMs will suck some juice at a rate of up to 2% per few minutes of screen on time etc. And with every release of Android it will be like that (aosp).
Sliders are dying man, the relay was a fail...does it even have a dedicated forum topic yet?

Now the Nexus 5 well be based on the G2 and obviously have the best Dev support of any phone, but that means leaving Verizon's network for T-Mobile, just wondering what all of you think.

Willing to bet it'll be less than the off contract price of the G2, so set price aside, I'll pay whatever for either device, more concerned about network vs. development prospects.
I'm voting Verizon simply for the fact their coverage is just too good to ignore. I'd love to be on T-Mobile because it's hard to ignore how cheap it is to be on their network, but their coverage is just not good outside of cities. The frequency T-Mobile uses also has issues when it comes to reception within buildings. There are a lot of people who love the carrier, but even plenty of the loyal ones will say the signal isn't the greatest by any means.
If you don't plan on traveling and your city has good coverage, it's fine, but if you do travel, it's a more difficult decision. I hate the cost that comes with being on Verizon, but it's nice getting data in areas where ever other carrier fumbles. In fact, at the job I'm working part time at right now, I'm the only one who does not need to use the wifi there because I get great 3g reception.
Also, I think the G2 is going to have a better dev community than past LG phones. This is the first flagship LG Android phone to release on all carriers.
Guess there's not many opinions on this.

Ill second the opinion on VZWs network being too big to ignore.
I actually had a demo Tmo device for the last couple weeks and outdoors the coverage was great, but once inside a building it went to nothing. Just because of the frequency bands they use, so its not like its something fixable. AT&T/VZW own the lower bands, and lower freqs have better building penetration.
In my case, no matter how cheap it was, Tmo just wouldnt work for me.
I also average 5-7gb a month so no prepaid or other plan really has enough data for me other than T-Mobile.
I guess Aio is always an option with 7gb/month allowance and options for more but 8mbps cap kinda sucks.
