So I've owned my Galaxy S4 now for about 2 months and I think I'm ready for a more stock experience, but I'm very nervous. I was very big rooter and custom ROM person when I owned my DROID Eris (but that was a long time ago) but since then I've forgotten everything I used to know, so I need some help. First of all I need help rooting and installing a custom recovery and vanilla Android ROM (suggestions would be great). And lastly I need to know how easy is it to unroot and remove custom Roms and recoveries in case going back to an out-of-the box state.
A couple of important questions. Do you have an i337 or 337m? What firmware are you currently on?

Hi,
I've been on Stock ROMs for some time. Last time I've tried a Custom ROM was a few years back on my new (back then) HTC Sensation.
Now I've changed my Galaxy S4 16GB to Galaxy S4 32GB, and (as it was a phone with different CSC than I wanted) changed CSC code to XEO. After that I've noticed that the KNOX flag has changed to 0x1, so I've read about it (a bit too late) and got to know what it means.
So after about 30min of having the new phone I was without warranty.
Now I'm looking at the Custom ROM possibilities.
Last time I've tried those, then every time that there was an update to those ROMs, one had to flash it manually and then do a wipe (this was very annoying, and because of that I've returned to Stock ROMs with OTA updates after which I didn't have to wipe the phone).
It would be if someone could tell me if that has changed ? (eg. Custom ROMs with something like OTA updates, that use a small update file and update only what is needed, or any other updates that don't involve phone wipes).
I'd like to get a Custom ROM that is practically the same as the Stock ROM, but has the bloatware removed (or an option to do so). The ROM should be rooted (thou I haven't used any apps that require root in a long time, so that is not a must have). But it must have a way of updating without phone wipe (I realize that I'll have to wipe when going from Stock to Custom ROM).
And is there a straight forward how to for going from official Stock I9505XXUDMH6 to a Custom ROM ?
Thank you in advance for any help.

Hello XDA! I'm wanting to get back into using a rootted phone. In fact, I already have rooted my note 3.
I really want to get into a custom ROM, to remove some bloatware, and to be able to theme the system fully.
I previously had a samsung galaxy fascinate (telus) that I had rooted, and I had tried to get a custom ROM on it. Turns out though that I may had messed up! My phone was soft bricked. So I got a dongle made up for me, re-flashed froyo and got rollin again, However I was afraid to try to flash a custom rom. I used it for a year and a half on stock after that, and then decided to try to flash it again. I again had messed up the process, (I think Odin hates my PC). I ended up with a boot looped phone.
Now that I have my note 3, I'm loving it. However I don't want to have to deal with TouchWiz.
My question to you, xda. Is, what is currently involved in getting into a custom ROM on the note 3?
Is there a guide to getting started with this kind of stuff. My phone is rooted, but I have no custom recovery (I'm not sure how to do that).
I'm tempted to just wait for cyanogenmod for the note 3 as it seems to be very popular (and probably would have better support documentations). However If there is a reasonably simple alternative I can get a new rom soon.
Thanks a lot for reading this wall of text, and apologies if this gets asked frequently. I'm just terrified of losing my precious new phone

It's all quite a simple process really , just make sure you follow any guide precisely.
Is there another PC you are able to use if you think the culprit is your own PC ?
I'd also recommend the Note - X- Rom very nice Themes, Battery, Performance boost.

Hello there!
I have a Galaxy Note 3 i9005. I used to have it rooted (towelroot) but I accidentally updated the phone to version 4.4.2 which sadly removed my root. I've had my phone for about a year, and I feel it's time to spice things up with a new rom, but I find myself lost in this whole flashing jungle.
So, my questions are, is it possible for me to safely root & flash my phone? If so, could anyone point me in the right direction? I've tried searching a bunch but it's very hard to find in-depth guides explaining the process in detail. I don't even know if such a guide exists for the Note 3.
I live in Sweden so I don't think the phone has a locked bootloader if that affects anything.
Please help me.

I've rooted several new note 3 with this method..http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/general/root-root-xxufnf4-stock-firmware-knox-t2840150
I managed to root it with that method! Knox is 0x0, thanks for the pointer man
Now, I'd like to know how to flash a custom rom. I've been looking a lot at different custom roms, however I can't seem to decide which one I want. Besides, I don't even know if I'm able to flash my phone since I'm running Android 4.4.2. All guides takes for granted that you have some knowledge with flashing, which I don't.
Ok, I've been running a Note 2 for a VERY long time since released. ROMing, rooting, etc was super simple and did it often. However, its been a year or more since I've had to do anything. Now with my new phone it seems there are a lot of new hoops to jump through. I already got the AT&T has detected something yada yada you're screwed yada yada and had to flash back stock firmware with Odin.
So I have rooted with towelroot. I've tried installing the TWRP via their app which caused the first soft AT&T brick.
I don't care about warranty, timer fuse, flash ticker etc etc. I bought the S5 new but second hand. I hate asking to be spoon fed how or where to look but I'm at my wits end. Don't even have to say anything just provide some links. I havent been on a stock android in years and this is killing me.
I've read something about needing Loki to bypass bootloader but saw it's for S4 and not sure what to do with it.
I have the US version of the Galaxy S5 running 4.4.2 Model 900A. I see CWM and TWRP links I've found say they can't do to bootloader lock so not sure where to go.
Thanks ahead of time!
Ok, waiting on my SD card to get here in the morning to use safestrap. What actual roms can I use? I see only things using stock kernel but can CM or other non basic stock roms?
Can I flash this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/unified-development/rom-resurrection-remix-5-3-4-t3033255
I'm on A01 bootloader and have flashfire etc via this thread. Running G900A_OF3_Stock_Rooted_Deodexed_ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...w-to-update-to-g900aof2-5-0-keeproot-t3149146
I just retired my struggling Note SGH-i717 running TWRP and Android 5.1.1 for a nearly new, unlocked Note 3 N900A running KitKat 4.4.2, Build number N900AUCUCNC2. It was silly of me but I didn't anticipate rooting and flashing a custom recovery and ROM would be such a conundrum, wrapped in a puzzle, inside an enigma. I've done a fair amount of research but have found a lot of dead ends. Is there a recent, definitive and authoritative guide to rooting and flashing a custom recovery and rom for the N900A?
I apologize in advance, for I'm certain it's been asked many times before. However, no matter how hard I've looked I haven't found a good, clear answer.

N900A is bootloader locked, so no custom recovery or kernel is possible. Best I can say is safestrap, but you'll want to check the AT&T Note 3 forum for more info.
