[Q] Which rom should I get? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am thinking about getting a custom rom but I want to find the perfect one for me.
It must be stable enough to use has a daily driver, change softkey icons, colour changing to holo bars and icons, a feature like Paranoidandroid where you change the UI and other popular features.

Parandroid is my favorite have used CM but have really enjoyed PIE and Halo on Parandroid. I would use the 4.2 rom for now I used the 4.3 but It's just not ready yet. dont get me wrong I'm sure it will be but I'm back on Parandroid 4.2

Yeah, can you give me the link to it so I can install it?
I will have to downgrade the radio and bootloader for this one.

Possible for a Samsung ICS based Rom to have navigation bar?

The title says it. I like Samsung based Rom for it's rich icons, S Pen and S Memo and I Iike the navigation bar from cm9 and aokp based roms. Since I can't find such a rom or I have missed it, I'm using LiquidSmooth now, which is a great rom with Navigation Bar.
Hope something can give me some information or link to making this possible. Thanks.

I wonder how hard it would be to get those Samsung apps to work on ROMs using the Franco kernel? As far as I know, it's based off of the stock ICS one.

I found a solution to get the ICS recent apps and home button using Button Savior and Task Changer Titanium, in case someone is interested. Now, I can use Samsung based rom and even add on Samsung Chinese keyboard if necessary. Now using a lite version rom based on Alba's full rom.

There isn't a best ROM for anything. But my personal favorite is Paranoid Android. It gives you the option of tablet mode and lets you change DPI on the fly.

Stock JB is the best way to go for now.
I tried every rom out there and nothing that offers more then stock JB and is stable w/o bugs at the moment

Paranoid has never given me any bugs and runs super stable and smooth for me. Nothing against stock JB, but Paranoid blows it out of the water with options and it runs just as stable on my N7.

I use Codename Android and it is the most customizable. I tried Paranoid Android and I hated it. I couldn't customize anything and I hate tablet UI.
If you like Paranoid Android but want the large amount of customization that Codename Android offers, you could also try this ROM, which is a combination of Paranoid and Codename. It looks awesome and I'm planning on flashing this soon.

There isn't a best rom. its all personal preference. Take some time and read the rom threads up and you will be the only one that knows what you consider to be the "best" for yourself.

Alternate app picker CM10

Does anyone know if it is possible to change the default app picker on the cyanogen ROM? I don't like having to click more than 1 button to select the app that I want to use. Aokp and slim both have the option that I am looking for, but I prefer to use cm because LTE seems to work better for me.

Is stock good enough for you?

Hey N4 users, how many of you are satisfied with stock 4.3?
I used to flash ROMs but I typically just stay on stock 4.3 now. I use a quick settings mod to add more tiles and an extended power menu mod to get reboot options. Other than that stock is all I need.

Flashed many roms ,tried about 6-7 roms and I realized that stock is good enough for me. I'm using battery % mod + advanced reboot ,it's enough.
I really enjoy with 4.3 stock rom.
Never was.

Honestly, not a fan of the Nav bars, so no Stock for me. I feel that they take up more space than they should. I ♥ extra screen space.

I use an app called fullscreen, and stock rom is fine after a few personalisation tweaks (playing with MUIU theme icons currently). Oh yeah..Pie Control App, Power Toggles, etc...apps really can extend usefulness like roms do, just have to hunt for them.
I need the long press navbar action, and better toggles.
Instead of flashing different mod a custom Rom is much easier.
Not for me. I like the extras, changes under the hood, ect the custom ROMs bring.

Yes. I've run stock on my phones since the Galaxy Nexus was released. I don't have the desire to do the custom ROM song and dance when stock does everything I want it to do.

I'm very satisfied with stock! The only issue is I wish with the default launcher you could change the pages, that's my only complaint... I wish I didn't have to use apex on top of default...

Generally speaking I would say yes, stock is great, but there are aspects to using something like Paranoid Android (lubz me some PIE) as well as CyanogenMod (volume rockers to change songs is something I simply cannot live without these days), so generally I will use a device for a period of time when it's new to my ownership stock, then do the research and find a custom ROM to try out, then another if needed, then tweaks (custom kernels, undervolting, etc).
Same old same old as everyone else for the most part I suppose.
i had mine for 9 months before i decided to try a custom ROM...
The nexus 4 is the only android phone I've owned and kept as stock which is kind of ironic.

I completely agree. My previous phone was a SGS2 and I flashed a new ROM the day I got mine. My N4 however I have decided to keep stock since 4.3 was released and so far I have been pleased.

Custom ROMs are significantly and noticeably faster and more responsive. Besides on stock lte is broken...

after i unwrapped it, my phone was stock long enough to download a custom rom. kinda like when you first installed windows and you use IE long enough to download chrome or firefox. same idea
I'm on stock right now

On stock ROM now and while I do miss the volume rocker buttons and expanded lockscreen on custom roms, I am also happy without it.
I've been waiting for CM 10.2 Stable...so I guess that answers that.
Stock... No need for custom Roms anymore. Hell even the stock kernel is good now.

[Request] Quick Setting Panel Customized -solved

Can some one create a flashable Mod for rooted stock rom, which allow to add and edit the quick setting panel as the CM has one?
This is the feature I most miss on my Nexus 5 by far with the stock rom, on my previous phones I had alwasy CM roms installt. Maybe I will also do with my current N5 when official nightlys are available.
Thanks in advance!!
Solution:
Install Xposed framework

And install Gravity Box

I highly recommend Cataclysm Rom, the best rom for Nexus 5 by far imo. It has almost every mods and tweaks you need except for theme chooser, etc.
I want the same. I want to keep stock rom as I love the pure aosp.

Stock is not AOSP. This is Google's version of Android. AOSP is the open source project that everyone works from.

Google really nailed it with the Nexus 5 and 4.4. This is the first phone I am not running to root, unlock, and start flashing away stock. With a few *minor* tweaks such as quick settings customization it would be near perfect.
I want to add screen orientation and flashlight to the quick settings. Google why cant you just be smart!
Just use Power Toggles in the meantime.

I definitively will give it a try, it looks really interesting.
Just wait for Xposed Framework, lets you modify stock without reflashing, etc. It doesn't work yet since 4.4 breaks everything in it, but the developer will probably have that all fixed up by the end of the month if I had to guess.

I still don't get why Google didn't make this feature. The Quick Settings Panel hardly improved from Android 4.2. I would stay 100% stock ROM if Google added this feature, battery percentage (no not the crappy white one that's in there now) and long press volume rocker to skip tracks.
