Did you received any sort of OTA when Sprint unlocked your phone?
Currently Sprint claims that they just mark the phone as unlocked in their DB and then you need to restart it.
It clearly doesn't work for many, the phone still shows "Invalid SIM" message and the consensus is that this is not normal and the phone is not unlocked.
So the question for those who have their phones _successfully_ unlocked, was there anything in addition to Sprint saying that they unlocked your phone?
when sprint unlocked my phone? I don't follow?

You call them (or chat) and ask to unlock the phone to be used with 3rd party GSM carriers. That's what I meant.

I don't know if my phone has been successfully unlocked - but I can swap in a US T-mo Sim and it doesn't show an Invalid SIM message on my phone.
I only got an Email from InternationalDeviceUnlock <[email protected]> with the following message
Hello xxxxx xxxxxx
This email is intended to confirm that Sprint has successfully unlocked your Samsung Galaxy s4 Device. Please follow the steps below to unlock the device after you have the third party SIM:
Turn off device > Insert 3rd party SIM > go to Settings > More (tab) > System Update > UICC unlock. You will receive the update and it should change to GSM Mode.
Phone number: xxxxxxxxxx

So did the phone actually do the above?
it wont work on tmobile
tmobile is on different bandwidths when they say unlock they mean international not any us carriers and even if it did work you would only get edge no 3g or lte

no, tmobile and att bands are supported by the hardware.. but are blocked by samsung/sprint regardless of unlocked sim status. if we can unblock it 3G would also be supported. WCDMA band support on the Sprint GS4 includes 850mhz and 1900mhz... so that means 3G works just about everywhere for ATT... and Tmobile would have no AWS band support but would have 3G in areas where Tmobile has refarmed 1900mhz.
Again.. the hardware itself supports these bands... its just an extra block thats stopping us. I am working on the unblock for ATT/Tmobile.
And to the OP @obender, @jj14's post show exactly what Sprint sends when the device is unlocked. Other than that... go thru the steps and that's that. As jj14 also states.. he can pop in a tmo sim and gets no error... proving he is truly unlocked.

I had my phone unlocked, and I did the above as per the email I received. However it just said that the profile had been successfully updated, which was the same thing it said before it was supposedly unlocked when I pressed UICC unlock. It also didn't change to GSM mode automatically. So I wasn't really sure it had worked, but I was able to put in the AT&T SIM from my Nexus 7 and I didn't get an invalid SIM error.
When I went to Costa Rica, I was successfully able to use my phone with a prepaid SIM (GSM and HSPA/WCDMA). That said, I had to go into the Testing menu and force it to use only WCDMA, otherwise it would only use GSM/EDGE (even selecting WCDMA preferred didn't work... it would switch back to GSM pretty quickly). I also had to make a build.prop edit to be able to add an APN to use data. So you basically need root if you want to use data.

I just recently got my S4 from sprint I had them unlock it for international use all the available networks now show up, but in regards to invalid sim msg I will not know till the end of September when i am out of country. and on a side note if you call Sprint before you own the phone for less than 90 days you have to go through a lot of loops but they will unlock it for international use. out side of that I am unsure as too how far the unlock actually goes.
will keep you updated as to my findings I will be trying a different sim card while over there

Call VZW and ask.
On ebay it's a ton of services about whitestone unlock, and my problem was an issue on the operating band of GSM for example in the USA you must use 950/1900 on other countries like Costa Rica you need 1800, thanks to all for your help
You should be able to contact VZW and have them unlock it so you can use whatever carrier SIM you have for the country/area you are in. The stock SIM is Vodaphone and I think will only work where Vodaphone service exists. Otherwise make sure the phone is in Global and not CDMA only. Go to the Settings Tab, click Menu then select Phone Network Mode select Network tab.
I called verizon and they gave me codes to unlock both my phones. I slapped an ATT sim into my imagio and it was working on the ATT network, no problem at all.
Hi, where do you enter the sim unlock code on Imagio?
Thanks.

I just got off the phone with Verizon in regard to this.
Below is what I found. The Global Verizon Rep will be happier if you enter the code while you are on the phone with them; they want to verify that it works. It actually took about 10 minutes.
Here is what I found: http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/htc-imagio/138569-how-unlock-verizon-imagio-sim-card.html
If you are going to be traveling abroad or simply want your Imagio to be unlocked its very easy to do and should only take about 3-5 minutes on the phone with Verizon.
Call 1(800)-711-8300 from a different phone, enter your Verizon phone number, then select option 2.
Tell them that you will be traveling abroad and plan to just buy a pre-paid SIM card when you get there, and that you simply need the unlock code for your phone. They will check your account standings, and then give you an 8 digit code.
You need to enter the code in the security section of your phone.
With TF3D...
Start>Settings> All Settings> Personal> Security
Without TF3D Enabled...
Start> Settings> Personal> Security
One you do this, soft reset your phone and you are all done. I can take my work phones SIM card (AT&T), put it in my Imagio, and use my Imagio for work now. I did not test the data yet because I do not have data on my AT&T plan. Although if anyone does this and wants to check it, keep in mind you will have to change the number for the data line. both Sprint and Verizon use #777. I am not sure what AT&T or TMobile use.
I have an Imagio from VERIZON.
I had unlocked the GSM network, Should I Unlock the CDMA network as well if I want to use the CDMA Net work?
or I jus need 1 unlock code for both GSM and CDMA?
So, I will have 2 no. in 1 phone one is injected, and another one is using sim card.
I was at at&t and we where unable to activate the phone even though the phone is capable. At&t said everything was good on there end but the phone just wont get a signal but it says it is on at&t.
Does anybody have any ideas how to fix this?

Quite a few people (including myself) on various boards have acknowledged having this problem as well. I got the SIM unlock code from Verizon but when I do a GSM network scan, nothing is detected. I know it has been escalated above level 2 support at Motorola and hopefully they will address it shortly. Here's another thread about it over on droidforums: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-2-global/96596-droid-2-global-unlock-foreign-sim.html
Yes, I have unlocked the phone from the code verizon gave me.
I hope its a fixable problem. But I noticed when I use an active tmob sim the phone doesnt even say tmobile. But when I use an at&t sim it atleasts says at&t.
I'm very interested (as I'm sure many others are) in a resolution to this. OP did you call VZW global support and let them know you're having this problem? Hopefully the more they hear about it, the faster they'll have a fix

They where no help at all they said it was for foreign sim cards only and that at&t and tmobile where not supported. But they did say verizon was better than both of them combined.
If you feel like experimenting try this:
Go to dialpad, and enter *#*#4636#*#*
Click on Phone Information, and then scroll down to bottom. Set preferred network type from "CDMA auto(PRL)" to "WCDMA preferred" and see if that kicks it on ATT.
I'm 99.9% sure after looking through the user guide that VZW has restricted use of the 850/1900 MHz GSM/UMTS bands, even though the device has the hardware to support them. Most foreign networks use 900/1800 GSM and 2100 UMTS but AT&T/T-Mobile use 850/1900, which is why no one has had any success with them yet.
Hopefully someone can figure out a workaround.
EDIT: Just a US GSM restriction...looks like 850/1900 work abroad: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...d2-global-south-america-first-impression.html

These where the results I got, so clearly it is getting seeing the network. Just not connecting.
Just got off the phone with Motorola and they said the droid 2 global was only for verizon sim cards and when I told them about the unlock code the guy didn't know what they where for. So another dead end. Another theory I have is that the stock verizon rom is blocking at&t so maybe if someone can flash another rom we can see if this is the problem.
Further proof the 850/1900 bands are locked: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/57058/p/30,6720,7706
"GSM-based global services work only with a SIM card supplied by Verizon Wireless® or by another GSM 900 or GSM 1800 service provider. When you set your phone to use a GSM 900 or GSM 1800 network you may be prompted to enter a subsidy code. To get this code, contact Verizon Wireless."
EDIT: Looks like they're just locked in the US, not abroad: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...d2-global-south-america-first-impression.html

If this is true why would they say it has the 850 and 1900 bands? I know its not a hardware problem, so if its a software problem there is a chance we can have a workaround. Or the locked bands might be because of the verizon rom.
I was able to put a new rom on my Droid 2 Global and although the rom was working since it was for a droid 2 the radio was not working properly. I was not able to force turn it on. I still have several more things I will try tonight.

This has been done before on Windows Mobile phones (CDMA HTC Touch Pro 2) and requires a radio reflash since the bands are locked in the radio firmware. I am hoping they will develop a solution for Android phones. http://rhodiumw.htc-unlocks.com/
Being that this the 1st CDMA/GSM (Tie if you count Droid Pro) Android device I would wait and see.

Good info, thanks
As from what I learned from previous devices the Droid 2 Global Verizon has a security locked radio. I have seen people unlock the radios from windows mobile phones, it is as easy as installing a .zip file that will unlock the security. I believe it is the same way with the Droid 2 Global. I will try to get this working but I don’t have much knowledge in the development field. But I do know you will have to be rooted. I have also spoke with a friend at Verizon, which claims that they did indeed lock the radios and there is a workaround. He said he was not familiar with this workaround but said it was close to the problem with the windows mobile security locked devices. I am calling this the official reason the phone wont work with US networks. This makes sense, and now that we found the problem it shouldn’t be long before we find a way around it.
Thanks for the info swangotp...that definitely sounds promising. Keep us posted!

Has anyone who bought the g4 play Verizon version noticed the unlock policy says either use the phone for one year or make $75 in payments? I'm wondering if Verizon actually unlocks the device will it enable the 3g bands they are there but they're blocked. Has anyone actually had Verizon unlock this device?
How do you know that the 3G HSPA+ bands are present? The specs I've seen only list quad-band GSM, dual-band CDMA, and LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 13.
Ohk I got my Moto g4 unlocked and I actually got it to dial out the problem is I think because my phone is still on it kept taking me to Verizon my service was T-cdma and I couldn't find where I could input APN settings

Okay, so the phone has the capability but only through T-Mobile it seems.
Verizon and AT&T must have some sort of block on their network so the feature can't be used on the xt1609. Why, idk.
Makes no sense to me.
In order to be able to dial out you have to change the CDMA Subscription to NV if not you'll get "sim error or no sim" but the calls are still over 1x. Also for whatever reason different sims make the phone act differently. At&t sims only give u an option for APN, if you use a T-Mobile sim long as you change the network mode from LTE to 3g or 2g you get options to change cmda subscription, APN, advanced 4glte, search for networks etc. My network was always T-Cdma on T-Mobile long as I changed to NV while on at&t no signal pops in at all

I'm gonna try again once my month is up if I'm not mistaken CDMA is programmed in the phone so that could be a reason I'm having trouble but I also thought that if I remove the sim the CDMA portion would still work which is not the case but either way all my calls are routed to Verizon

Hi guys,
I bought a Verizon s8 in the states and wanted to use it in Europe. I live in the Netherlands, so I swapped in my Vodafone some instead of using the Verizon Sim and everything works fine besides mobile data. I can not change the APN settings as they are locked. Carrier says it's Verizon though it's using the Vodafone Network.
So I was wondering, can I flash the firmware with a european version to get access to the APN settings and remove the carrier lock?
Best
the s8 verizon is not locked just put your sim card in and thats it.you cannot flash international rom on the us version odin wont let you it will fail even if you somehow made it it will brick the phone.the reason is because the us s8 version uses snapdragon chipset and the s8 international version uses exynos chipset they are completely different.
the option you have is to flash the us unlocked version to the verizon s8 i did on mine i have verizon also.

Tv87, I am in the exact situation as you. Have you resolved your problem? If so, what was the solution?
I just moved to the Netherlands a few weeks ago and switched my S8's SIM Card from Verizon to Vodafone. Everything worked fine except for mobile data. The Vodafone rep told me that my APN settings were grayed out / locked; therefore, until they could be edited, my phone would not receive mobile data.

They are not locked, the phone still thinks it has a verizon sim and that's why you cant edit the settings, do a complete factory reset.
And anyways, even with editable apn settings you wont get lte, because your s8 is lacking the european lte bands.

Says:

They are not locked, the phone still thinks it has a verizon sim and that's why you cant edit the settings, do a complete factory reset.
And anyways, even with editable apn settings you wont get lte, because your s8 is lacking the european lte bands.

I did a factory reset while my Vodafone SIM Card was in the phone. I am now getting the following message:
Sorry, we're having trouble activating your phone.
If you're moving your phone number from your old phone to this one, make sure your old phone is turned off.
In addition, I get the following message on the very next screen:
You can set up your phone using Wi-Fi, but you won't be able to make or receive calls until your phone has been activated on the Verizon network.
Is there anyway to unhinge my phone from the Verizon network!? Before I left the United States, Verizon assured me my phone was not locked to their network; however, it appears to be based on the messages received after factory resetting my phone.

What you can try is to flash the USA csc instead of the VZW one that you have right now.
Unlocked my Sprint LG v20 through a website someone on here recommended for me (lg simunlock) and used the Network Unlock app and it i used the code to unlock it they gave me and it said successful. even now when i open the app it sais my device has been permanently unlocked.
When i put my Family mobile sim in it it gives me the bars as if im getting a signal but when i call someone i sais mobile network is unavailable?

Have you tried contacting the website you used for unlock and asking for support? Perhaps this is a common issue that they know how to resolve easily.
Heres the issue. Sprint is a CDMA network, Family Mobile is Powered by T-Mobile, a GSM network. The odds of a sprint device working with any other carrier that isn't CDMA is next to none. I work at T-Mobile and we run across this issue frequently, sprint devices aren't compatible with our networks because of sprints difference in network hardware.

Ive unlocked the phone and it has a CDMA or a global GSM option so i doubt thats the issue. However it seems my actualy issue was that the person who sold me the phone only reported it stolen or missing once i bought it from him.

Take the device to a sprint store and have them run the IMEI, they can tell you. Having it unlocked doesnt mean its GSM if the hardware doesnt support GSM. I have that issue with sprint phones all the time.

The ls997 is gsm compatible, the only thing it wont do is Voice LTE, this will only work on sprint. Most sprint phones use sim cards now days, so the majority of sprint phone can be unlocked to be used on a gsm carrier.

Then you need to manually setup the APN settings for the data.
Spring LG v20 - Unlock does not work. (even Sprint said it is unlocked)

Spring LG v20 - Unlock does not work. (even Sprint said it is unlocked).
I am still dealing with Sprint now but i don't think they know what needs to be done.
MY device LG v20 (LS997) did received unlocked code.
I did update PRL, Profile, and UICC unlock button in System update .. and it did all without any error.
However when I insert NON-Sprint SIM CARD, the device can't recognize the SIM CARD.
Also I tried to add APN but the device can't save it. (even I clicked SAVE, the new APN does not show up as an option to select).
I am stuck here so badly now. i have 3 LG v20 and plan to move somewhere but I'd like to use them. arghh.
I fought back with Sprint and got MSL code but.. not sure what I can do with it.
There are so many other people in the sprint community forum who are having the same issue as me).
any help/options are appreciated.
thank you.

Have you tried switching it from factory mode to test ? In the hidde menu, i dont remember were it is, but there is an apk that installs the hidden menu witch will allow you to switch between gsm and cdma mode. And i dont believe you need to sim unlock the v20, i dint have too.
