Some random Google Services app ate all my data. However it doesn't show what app used the data. Is there a way to check?

Ya it doesn't say what Google Services app is using all my data. It just says Google Services.

Ok I disabled some syncing stuff for her. Checked Google Services and it says 196MB was used for Background... "View app settings" is greyed out though.
same issue
Hey,
I'm having the same issue, first my phone and service:
Tmobile
Nexus 4 w/ Paranoid Android 3.6 with Franco Kernel 3.4.0
LTE Enabled / LTE Tethering enabled on Firewall
Ok, so within 3 days my phone used 1.62 GB of data that the data usage area in settings attributes to Google Services. I haven't installed any new apps or made any changes.
According to Android, Google Services includes:
Google Contacts Sync
Google Account Manager
Network Location
Google Play Services
Google Services Framework
Google Bookmarks Sync
The only culprits I can think it might be are either Account Manager or Network Location. I turned off Location Access and I'm trying to limit anything syncing on my google accounts. But that hasn't changed over the whole month, I don't know why it would now. I'll keep looking and report back what I find. I downloaded android firewall and i'm downloading My data manager too, to try to obtain more metrics. any help would be appreciated.
Just today, I lost 575MB of data, again to Google Services. It was all background data. Have most of my syncing stuff disabled.
It's trying to pull the 4.3 update, and since your not on stock, it'll fail over and over. After a lot of searching, I found what seems to have fixed it. Get the app Autorun Manager, select advanced mode, go to settings and enable show system entries and enable system app disable. Then scroll down to Google Services Framework. Find and uncheck com.Google.android.gsf.update.systemupdateservices$secretcodereceiver. What a mouthful, but that should end your data drain troubles.

Network Location is the one. Ate around 300mb yesterday so I just completely disabled that ****. One other thing that was mentioned above was, android 4.3 update. I got a message in notifcations that 4.3 is ready to install lol.. I didn't even download it... it downloads automatically. wtf google.

Hi. I tried this. Initially it stopped. But after a few hours it started again. This time my network log app was showing upload too. And the same download manager, drm protected storage and media storage were showing data transfer. What to do? I'm on aokp milestone 2 with franco kernel milestone 3
Tried the Autorun Manager fix
Google Services used up 1.2GB mobile data on my phone in a matter of hours yesterday. I've tried the fix, hope it stops. I've disabled Mobile Data as a failsafe. I also noticed that Google Services' usage on WiFi was 7.5GB in 20 days. Is this normal?
Using the last CM10.1 nightly.

I'm having the same problem! I already tried reflashing my rom, and the problem always comes back!
I tried disabling com.Google.android.gsf.update.systemupdateservices $secretcodereceiver Autorun Manager (free version) and the problem still happens.
Any solution?
EDIT:
Installing FOTAKILL, seems to have fixed it *crosses fingers*
Yes I did. It stopped for a while for me too but then started again. And same here. Transferred many GB on WiFi. Now I went back to stock, updated OTA to 4.3 and rooted again. Staying on rooted stock till the 4.3 based releases of AOKP and all come out

So, if I update to CM10.2 (4.3), it should solve this too, right?

Long story short: since yesterday I have been unable to update any installed apps, or install new ones. When I try to do so, the app shows in-store as "downloading" but nothing actually happens and it's stuck at this stage forever. Stopping and restarting the service doesn't fix this, nor does completely powering off and on. Internet through the browser works as usual, as do all internet-enabled apps. I haven't installed or removed any software recently - the only change I did in the past 2 days is flash a new CWM recovery (went from 6.0.1.0 to 6.0.1.9) but I don't see what this has to do with the store.
I had this happen to me. If you go into settings > apps and clear data from Google Play Store, that fixed for me.

What rom are you using?
Stock. However I'm still on 4.1.2 - I blocked OTA updates until the current 4.2/4.2.1 bugs are fixed.
It's a long shot, but you can try to install the latest Gapps package from recovery. Or remove and re-add your Google account.
Would you happen to know where I can find the latest gapps package? Thanks!
(edit) found it http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20121130-signed.zip
Edit2) Oops the 11/30 gapps don't work with 4.1.x anymore, will try 10/11 instead.

Since you're on a 4.1.2 rom, get the one for CyanogenMod 10.0.x
I same issue last night. Downloads were very slow. All stock on latest ROM.

Holy f*! The browser works, however downloading through the browser doesn't. I get "download starting" then nothing happens. Same with Chrome. I quickly checked if I'm not out of storage space - no, I have 8GB free. WTF is going on?
I figured it out. last week I was trying to solve my battery drain problems (can't find the thread anymore) and I ended up disabling the media storage service. That apparently disabled any app from downloading anything. I have re-enabled it and now can download. The store works, browsers work etc. I just hope that the battery hogging doesn't happen again.
When I have play store issues I just sign out of Google talk and sign back in and it fixes my problems .. also close the market after..

If you can't download at all, a good method can be to clear data from "Google Framework Services" , delete google Account, reboot, recreate your Google Account.
I had the same problem. Enable download manager fixed it for me. After I did that all the apps I had tried to install started downloading and play store stayed open and did not force close.

I think a lot of google services (location) uses maps... Maybe even the new google now. Anyhow go into settings in google maps and turn all of the settings off, especially "location history". Make sure android's settings for location access is turned off. When you reboot, maps should run a lot less if ever. Hasn't come up for me since I did it this morning when I first read your message. No need to uninstall it (might get system errors).
You might loose a lot of services if you do it on a mobile device.
It does run a lot, but you can get more battery by having your screen turn off sooner or not as bright, even not using live wallpaper. I use maps and location services too much to consider turning it off.
Hope that helps some.
Good advice. Using Better Battery Stats, I traced a lot of apps which also cue up Maps. You think its only Maps, but some apps go there to find you & your location. Your basic battery use app will show only Maps as the culprit, but look closer & it's other apps asking it for your whereabouts! Facebook is one of the all time worst. It had so many other privacy issues I deleted my account. Google + & Google Now will also use battery thru Maps finding you. Turn off any apps location service via its individual settings if you want individual control. Or, just deny all of them via main settings.

Everybody waiting for the update on their Nexus device, heres a simple solution that works.
1) Goto settings and remove your google account from the accounts tab.
2) Goto Apps and force stop and clear data for Google Framework Services
3) Go check for update and Voila
4) Add your google account back.
Done :victory:
P.S - This might also work for future OTA updates so remember the idea

I dunno concerninh 4.3 update but I did this 2 times to get the OTA previously on 4.11 and 4.12 update and it just works....
Just tried this and it didn't work
Trick worked for me, cleared data twice before i got the update.
Some people might be having more luck than others, just keep trying.
Im on nexus7 3G btw.
It doesn't work for everyone. I tried it about a dozen times to no avail on both my N7 and my N4. Then the next day both auto updated.

Does updating like this kill what apps i have? I have like... 400 plus. I'd hate to have to reinstall.
Worked without removing google account, only clearing data for framework app.
I got bored of waiting, and I found necessary files to root, so I gave it a little push. Downloading OTA update as I type this.
Thanks

After just clearing the Google services framework on my stock Nexus 7 it was no longer listed in my Google Play store devices. Subsequently, when I installed new apps on the Nexus 7 they still show up in my 'My Apps' list on Google Play, but the Nexus 7 device did not show so I could not push apps to my tablet using Google Play Store from a browser. Also since the device was no longer listed I could no longer determine, from a browser, if apps were compatible with the Nexus 7. I read elsewhere that the "device" comes back after a few days; I tried a few things to help it along (click on acct name etc....) but after a few days it was still not back. I had installed quite a few apps directly from the Play Store app on the N7 since doing this "data clearing" but it was still missing from my list of devices on Google Play website.
UPDATE: apologies to the OP; I had quickly read his post and skipped over his first step of removing Google account. Following the OP instructions in this thread I got the update right away....AND my N7 "device" is now shown in the Play Store again (thank you). By previously just doing the force stop and clearing data in Google Services Framework, as suggested in many other forums, it seemingly removed my N7 device from the Play Store without getting me the update .
My N7 is listed in the Play store devices same as before.

Is this down for anyone else? Generic ones work. Remind me to watch TV works. Remind me to watch TV @ 10:00 doesn't.

Google search was just updated today..
Could be a bug.
I disabled Google Now a while ago, and wanted to try it again. Disabled, uninstalled and installed again Search, but now it says Google Now is not available and it doesn't show in Search Settings.
Weird. Is it on my end or something's up with Google?

Do you have it as an option in Google Search > Settings? I only have Voice, Phone Search and Privacy & Accounts. Did the same steps as you, but nothing yet. Thought I'd give it some time to sync something...
Found this on a Google support forum, and maybe it really is Google's issue.

Some friends have Google Now working, and they are all completely stock. I have CWM and fk installed. Waiting for 4.4 to come out soon, when I'll do full wipe and install via fastboot and see if it starts working when stock.

OK, so I am running Beanstalk, and want to stay that way... problem is that I keep getting the factory 4.4.3 update notification. I thought I would be a simple thing to just turn off the SystemUpdateService in Google Services Framework, but it was already disabled. Then I found the SystemUpdateService in Google Play Services and disabled it, problem then is the phone would not sleep.
It's not a huge deal, but is there a simple way to stop the update notifications yet not effect anything else? I remember in the Rezound we used to do a little edit to prop.build and all was well, anything like that here to make the Google Services think that the phone is already on 4.4.3 even when it isn't until the ROM can get updated?
