Hi All,
I'm a noob here so please be gentle!
I have bought a brand new Galaxy S4 (I9505 Baseband is I9505XXUBMEA)
I am looking to install the Google Play Edition ROM on my phone but so far have failed to root the device.
I am using a Macbook Air, so I am looking for methods using OSX. I have tried using motochopper but this failed, possibly because I have an updated firmware on the phone.
Any help, advice or links would be greatly appreciated (mostly as I can't stand touchwiz!)
I want to root, install CWM Recovery, and flash Google Play Edition. Sound deceptively simple!

Hello
is there anyway you can flash the stock image and recovery from a GE s4 onto to standard s4? so will pick up updaes etc..?
see this done on HTC One... wondered if it can be done? or does it have to be via a Rom?

Not yet. Bootloader needs to be unlocked to transform S4 in S4G
Not possible at the moment, you can have the google edition roms though but again no OTA's and same partition sizes

Really a little confused about this answers...
We all can flash a custom recover on the S4's, previously rooted, so this by reading some explanations on XDA:

Can anyone tell me why I have issue with my nexus 4? I tried to install a lot of rom that come 4.3, but I all have same issue during the call, I or other side can't hear each other. I have this issue with Paranionadrion rom too. Isn't something wrong? I'm using T-mobile sim. Please help! I'm a noob, clear instruction will be greatly appreciate. Thank

I don't think so. My friend rooted for me like 7-8months ago, then I keep just install rom myself. How can I install latest radios?
My phone is on uXylon verion 4.2.2 that just came out like 2 weeks ago.

Hello,
I have been trying to figure out a few things with the S4 and read a lot of stuff but I have a few unanswered question.
I come from using NExus phones since Nexus 1. Unlock Phone, install CWM and then use it to flash roms or rooting scripts.
Now, I have S4. I am still with their STOCK on I337M (Canadian Model) and I rooted using CF-Auto-Root and ODIN.
What I don't understand, is:
- Can I flash CWM and then just use CWM and SuperSU-vx.xx.zip to root? Why Use Odin?
- Now that I am rooted, if I new SAMSUNG firmware comes along, I am assuming it will fail, I will have to unroot and then apply firmware and then root again? How do I unroot? "Full Unroot" from the option in the app just like the Nexus phones?
- S4 has a counter from what I read, but lot's of warning about bricking phone is that only active on Samsung stock? What if I flash a google stock?
- Can I just use Rom Manager Pro as I used to with Nexus devices...
if I flash CWM, is it replacing ODIN? Is odin a recovery like Odin! If anyone can point out and explain the difference between CWM , ODIN, Nexus phones and S4 it would be great...
I know that now when I go to download mode (Is that like fastboot?) it shows binary as being custom, but I don't get a yellow triangle when I boot...

I also noticed although I have 16GB phone, 6.38GB is system! That is huge! Is that normal?
There are some nice features that I would not like to lose, so I stuck with samsung and just use NOVA home screen...

I just went through the un root because I was only using it for one thing. I ended up flashing the original ROM using Odin then doing a factory reset and cache wipe. Now waiting for the update not sure I will root until S4 is not longer updated by Samsung.

OTA will remove root,and the latest will lock down your bootloader.

I have AMG1... I think this is the latest one but I was able to root.. Will locking boot loader prevent rooting.. Could it be another one for at only?

Note: yes. I did notice chainfires note.. But he doesn't say what load is the latest.. There are so many Samsung s4 models devices.. Each with different models its so confusing

I just installed CWM on latest version of Canadian I337M AMG1... Its good so far.
Xda modder.. There are differences between i337 att and Canadian i337m.. No forum specific to the Canadian folks?

I'm running Slim-4.4.2.build.3-Offical-3055 Kernel Version 3.4.78-KT-SGS4-gc30c87e [email protected] #1 Build Number slim_jfltespr-userdebug 4.4.2 KOT49H 3055 test-keys. I hope that's what you will need to answer my question. I'm having a problem with a lot of different kinds of apps not working at all and I my Galaxy Gear will not work with it either. And suggestions will be greatly appreciated. And I'm not just completely sold on the ROM I'm using that I can not change to another one. Thank you.
I don't think your galaxy gear is working at 100% because from my knowledge you have to be on a Touchwiz ROM to make the most out of the galaxy gear.

Correct, Gear has to be with TouchWiz, if not, it would work with any Android phone.

The same way you root NB1. This has been asked, you proceed with the downgrade as normal. It may help to go to NB1 first and then MK2.

At one point we all were and called ourselves like that. What bothers is that we see the same questions on new threads over and over. A forum was design to read and search. Once you don't find your answer you post a new thread. Some moderators will suggest the same to avoid clogged our forum. That's how we should treated and care for. I don't feel it's offensive and if it is apologize to those who feel that way.

I remember when I had my GS3 I had to flash stock 4.3 (which if I'm not mistaken still has a locked bootloader) and then I flashed a custom stock 4.1 rom and was able to flash the latest CM 11 plus a modem/bootloader combo zip from 4.3 and it worked fine. Is that even in the realm of possibilities with the GS4?

I had the GS3 also and it was great you could flash anything Ubuntu and more, but now AT&T tied our hands because the war it's having with Samsung we pay. Others phones like the HTC it's reported to be bootloader unlocked. You can flash cm 11 without any problem.
