I dont know about overheating but I know I looked everywhere for 19500 which it looks like you can only find online. From what ive read the proc itself is better .. not so much right now but has room to be used way more effectivly.. If there is no overheating issues i would get the 9500 just in case down the road these fine people are able to unlock the xtra power. As for me I couldnt wait for an order and just bought the 9505 and Im super happy with it.. Good luck either way im sure youll be happy.
I am happy with my i9505 and the development seems better also.

If you plan to install roms such as CM or AOKP then the i9505 is your choice, if not then it really doesn't matter, just buy the cheapest of the two.
Get the one which is being officially sold in your country. If you can have either one, I would recommend i9505.
Thank you all but does your i9505s heat up?

Mine doesn't have a heating problem. Is normal to be hot when playing demanding games, but it is not extremely hot.
Snapdragon version (i9505) should be a little bit cooler (not too much though).
For better custom ROM support I suggest the I9505. But i doubt the Galaxy S4 will be much coolee than the Xperia Z.
Stay away from the i9500 , I thought I was getting a good phone and here are a few things that made me decide to stay away from samsung from now :
- It overheats like crazy (no matter what you are doing on it , even idle charging)
- It's less powerful than the i9505 (don't kid yourself , A15 @ 1.6GHz is weaker than the 1.9 GHz Snapdragon)
- Freezes and reboots itself several times a week (due to application/stock rom issues)
Horrible , horrible experience.

Dude, something's terribly wrong with your phone. Sounds like problems that the phone had with its original first firmware. Update, wipe and than come back in.
I have I9500 and I'm on Omega v11 with stock kernel, have no issues with overheating in idle or simple tasks. Demanding tasks or games makes phone hot, but tolerable. Battery life is great, especially now on MG5!
And since I bought it, I have never had even one random reboot or freeze.
And to notice. A15 with its GPU is more potent than Snapdragon 600 with its Adreno.

I have tried almost every single firmware out there (Stock only) , I refuse to root it and/or apply modded roms since it will null my warranty (and yes , most of the bugs I came across are from firmwares but still a phone someone should stay away from)
He's right. The octa processor isn't really ready for prime time yet. It doesn't really work the way an octa core should and doesn't give any advantage over the quad at this stage. It seems it was mostly a marketing gimmick - some people will buy it because they assume more cores makes it better.

Sorry but I had no choice when buying it at AMAZON site. Only choice was the color ' black or white".
For me it was only one S4 and not many different model as today (more than 6 versions!!!) That's a funny way Samsung is playing with prodduct names.
Anyway I am happy with what I get, no LTE available in my country and it will take long time to open, so when ready I'll be buying S8!!! may be....

I recommend the 9505 because it has a better battery life than the 9500

Hey everyone, first off I want to apologize for creating a topic like this. I have been reading up on both phones through website, reviews and topics here on XDA. I just cant seem to make up my mind.
The one X has no removable battery when the battery is 1800Mah which is pathetic considering I am running a 1900Mah in my outdated HTC Sensation. This is a big downside to me; the S3 has a 2100Mah battery which is removable which is a big plus. I was looking at both battery life threads for the international versions and both seem good though. Could you guys possibly comment on this?
The cpu and gpu's of both phones are also interesting. The Exynos seems better then the Tegra 3 and coming from a S3 powered Sensation I do not want another laggy phone.. Please comment on this, possibly a link to another topic if it was made before.
Memory is not a big issue for me, 32gb is plenty.
I heard that the screen on the One X is better and easier on battery life, is this true?
Last thing is development; I love flashing new Roms and have been spoiled with the Sensations awesome developers. Does the international S3 have great developers and if so which Roms are the most popular?
Thanks a ton guys!
Samsung galaxy s3 is the best phone

Had US and international one x. Now have the international gs3. Aside from some camera features. The Gs3 is better. The multi taking issues on the One X kill that phone imho

If price isn't a concern, get the s3. Battery life is almost double that of the one x and the Cpu and gpu are faster. Combined with removable battery and sd card, it's a no brainer.
However if price is a concern, get the one x. It's about 20% cheaper. But it does have some serious problems with heat; the battery will frequently reach over 55 celcius and go into "overheat" status, potentially reducing the life of it.

Wow, that link has alleviated my fears of lackluster developer support thank you.
ratchetjaw you speak of multitasking, I understand that the S3 Lte has 2gb of ram, do you feel this is a necessary advantage? So much so that it is better to wait until the fall to purchase a new phone, when they have quad and 2gb?
Also, the lack of Lte on the international version; I myself never really cared for data speeds as 4g is fast enough for me. Do you deem the loss of this and a Gb of ram justifiable for the quad core Exynos?
Thanks!
Ask the same question in the one X forum, you will get a different response.
They are both excellent phones.
Considering software issues and heat are now resolved with the new base, the battery is also much better on the new kernel.
Software can be changed, the only things you can't change are the screen and the looks.
One X wins on both counts in my opinion, and I own both phones!
Plus the tegra 3 processor has a dedicated gaming development and is gonna get play station games shortly.
The new Google nexus 7 tablet is a tegra 3 processor, which means more tegra games are coming for sure. Also there probably is a good reason why Google are releasing their flagship tablet with nvidia cpu, versus the exynos.
In summary both are excellent phones but it comes down to personal preference and what looks visually more pleasing to your eyes.

Hi I had the HTC one x for about 2 months I fought it was I great phone till I started to use it. The battery last me 6 hrs. I changed from iphone 4 to it. It was such a let down. Sold It and got a s3 best phone out of the 2. My s3 battery last me 15hrs. I stream and surf the net a lot fans the s3 last me 15hrs or if I not stream or surf it can last me about 18 hrs.
So just go for the s3 DON'T BUY HTC ONE X

Personnaly, the fact that the S3 has an external sdcard slot made almost the difference so I bought one. But I recently had to buy a one x to and it is much nicier than the s3.

He said he used search, but he still wanted to ask... this is not dev's thread or anything and he asked politely about personal opinions (as it's not correct to just start flaming other's devices, but personal opinions are always all right!) Don't be so rude.
About the phone matter, I was in the situation 3 weeks ago and finally got the S3 and now I'm really happy with it If you come from a Sensation like me you'll go mad with battery life of S3 And not the positive way trust me xD Let me explain to others, Sensation had a TERRIBLE battery indicator, 100% lasted for about 3 hours, then major drain until 70%... 2 hours... 50% in 20 minutes! and so on... good battery life, but horrible indications!
As soon as I got my S3 I was like, damn! this is draining like hell! (80% at 13:00 unpluged at 07:00 with maybe 35 minutes screen...) but if you do the numbers and extrapolate this to a hole day... it comes to 16h and 2.5h screen time even with the poor reception I had!
Good choice for me
Galaxy S4 vs others.
Hey I know there are a few other threads out there like this but they are not really specific enough. I'm torn, I'm going to be buying a new phone in the next month or so and I'm confused as to which phone I should get, I've looked at many comparisons and still can't decide which is the better buy:
Galaxy S4
LG Optimus G Pro
Sony Xperia Z
HTC One(Maybe a little small)
Any thoughts on the matter or feedback would be appreaciated. Thanks. :good:
Note: I do live in Australia so that may affect my choice.
You're on XDA forums, and it's not a place for people who are new to android. You should be able to decide for yourself what features will be more useful to you. If you still can't, at least tell what features draw you on each of the phones.

Tbh, the best for you is to go on a retail store and compare those 4 phones then choose the best for you and the one that will satisfy your needs. It's just a matter of self preference. No need to start a new thread that may attract fanboyism, bashing and flaming wars.

S4
Advantages: Best processor in the pack. Tiny form factor.
Disadvantages: Nothing really, unless you count the plastic body.
Xperia Z
Advantages: Solid build.
Disadvantages: Slowest processor in this bunch (still fast).
HTC One
Advantages: Amazing build quality
Disadvantages: Feels uncomfortable due to excessively angular design.
G Pro
Advantages: Good build quality.
Disadvantages: No stylus.
Personally, I would recommend the S4. It's likely that it will be updated to at least 2 major android versions like what happened with the S2. It has the most battery efficient AND powerful chip around.
EDIT: Is Australia getting the S600 or Exynos Octa version?

I understand this is your opinion but
HTC One is super comfortable according to anyone that owns it, reviewers and users.
Xz is also waterproof which is a good thing and S4 pro is more than powerful.

I can confirm for sure that you can fry eggs on the back of the xperia z. After having heating problem with my nexus 4 I thought that was lg's fault but I was wrong, it's the snap dragon s4 pro CPU that has a problem with making devices really hot.
That's why Sony made it waterproof so that you can leave your phone in a cold water jar

1. Older and slower CPU! Snapdragon S4 Pro 1.5GHz vs Snapdragon 600 1.9GHz
2. LCD TFT Screen vs. Super AMOLED FulHD Screen
3. OPPO vs.Samsung (this one is actually important when you look for custom ROMs and MODs)
4. Android 4.1 vs. Android 4.2.2 (for now)
5. 2500mAH battery vs 2600mAH battery
You decide....
I love my Oppo Find 5. I love the design, love the complete steel chassis design. No mucking around with plastic or even aluminum. They went straight for steel.
Display is great. Speaker is great. Frankly there is very little negative about the phone.
But it is totally outgunned by S4 at this point. You won't notice much in day to day use now but S4 destroys it in benchmarks.
But Find 5 is special. I am never going to sell this phone just to show people 20 years down the line that someone made phone like this.
It can't compete with S4 or One in pure performance but it puts smile on my face every time I use it. $500 phone with so many things done right.
Totally unfair to put it u up against S4 to be honest.
It is a good phone. Probably better made than One in my book.
From my Galaxy S4, in your face.....
H2H he S4 beats it at everything but looks. On the other hand it's still a very capable phone and at €400 it has an impressive price point in Europe.
Depends how well they have optimised the software on that phone. The S4 Pro on the Nexus 4 literally at the moment offers a much smoother and faster experience than the S4 with an updated CPU.

Did you guys have any issues with your s4?
Should I wait for a less defective batch?
The version available to me is the l9505
People are going to have different opinions. Some will say fw will fix problems. When the Note 3 and/or the S5 come out, I know what I'm doing. I'm going to wait a little bit, not too long though and get a feel of what consumers have to say about the device before purchasing. To each their own.

Problems you read about on the Internet can happen, however, in the case of S4 some of the problems have been solved by Samsung with firmware updates.
Overheating seem to happen more often on i9500 than on i9505. I personally never had a problem with overheating.
I personally wouldn't wait.
Therr are 2 versions of s4.
1. I9500 - has heating problem due to the octa core processor.
2. I9505 - comparitively, gets lets heated up.
About the screen issue, most of it is caused due to not handling s4 properly or by heating issue.
Anyway, note 2 is an awesome device. I own one too. Apart from note 2, I own s4. I must say that s4 is way better than note 2. You can see significant performance with s4 along with the amazing software support from samsung.
The choice it yours. You should look at some reviews on youtube becuase there is nothing called as 'less defective batch of s4' unlike the defects found in htc one.

Yes..if you are using other devices like note 1 , s2 (or s3 may be) etc then you can buy s4 now and now you can get much price cut on s4
After all its your choice
if you come from the note 2 then my advice is to wait for the note 3

This thread is going towards comparison b/w S4 and Note 2. isn't it.?
BTW, I do have both devices S4 octa V & Note 2.
Both have different parameters. Better to use this thread for comparison -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2334012
I have SGSIII E210K and SGS4 I9500. Both have heat issue. And i wouldn't say I9500 have exceptional heating. Nope. It's comparable to E210K, but may be a little more hot. But, hey, I9500 has more powerful CPU as well.
Thus heating level is normal if compare to other powerful devices. If u don't play 3D games and don't use live 3d wallpaper then I9500 won't heat much.
Note 2 (and Note 3 will as well) has bigger size and thus more efficient in heat dissipation. So, it's obviously will work better even with the same CPU. And has room for bigger battery as well.
If you are user of Note 2 then upgrade to Note 3 will be more pleasant than to S4 where u will have some trade-offs.
As a i9500 user I haven't experienced any reset due to camera or heating. Heating is moderate even when I am running benchmarks. Everything seems fine to me and performance is extraordinary! Only thing I wonder is we might not get google edition rom but there is a possibility that samsung will release a fw for i9500 that will run all 8 cores which is exciting!

Only thing I wonder is we might not get google edition rom but there is a possibility that samsung will release a fw for i9500 that will run all 8 cores which is exciting!

8 cores at the same time would equal very low battery time.
Well that might be the reason behind late developing process.

if you read forums you will notice there are more heating problem on i9505. my 9500 never heatting over 50 degrees.
I see everyone talking about the overheating but what about the display failure rates?

So iam Thinking of selling my note 2 and buy an s4, but after seeing the vast bad consumer reviews on both the german and uk amazon about the failure rates of the display and overheating issues its starting to worrying me.
Did you guys have any issues with your s4?
Should I wait for a less defective batch?
The version available to me is the l9505

Hey guys!
Its almost the end of September and i am looking to buy a brand new SGS 4 Black edition i9505.
The question is , is it rly worth it ? To spend the money on it ? How does it perform nowadays ? Tell me all the pros and cons please !
Have a good day!
just do it!
is the perfect device!
i have my I9505 for about 3 month now and is all i can dream about!
Three month ago i was able to choose from S4 I9505, Galaxy S5 and Note 3....
Foe me S4 I9505 is the perfect device....until Galaxy S6 will come
how is the battery life? im thinking of buying it, staying on touchwiz for a day or two then switching to cyanogen
what accesories do u use? did u find anything that bothers you about the device? thanks
on kitkat 4.4.2 stock offical, no root, using it as ussually, voice, wifi, gaming...for me is about 2 days of battery, now it's depending of user
all i use for it is official original as accessories...
nothing to bother, except KNOX because i cant have root, but with the help of xda and all the good people here you can rrot ie, but i want it to be stock official and keep the warranty...
Pros:-
- Been out for 18 months now so far cheaper than Samsung S5/LG G3 and other newer flagships.
- It still cuts the mustard CPU/GPU wise, you will find nothing that this device can't run smoothly.
- Good quality camera.
- Very good 1080p screen, something (Cr)Apple have only just caught up with on their phones (and even then, only on the 5.5" iPhone).
- Thanks to Qualcomm's Snapdragon architecture (as opposed to Samsung's in the I9500), you're spoilt for choice in terms of stable custom roms.
- Thousands of accessories and cases to cater for all tastes.
Cons:-
- The camera might be good quality, but the shutter speed is painful. Catching the moment can be a big issue.
- Everything runs fine and smooth, but play a 3D game like Minecraft or Real Racing 3 for more than 5 minutes and damn it gets hot.
- Build quality not fantastic, something Samsung realised and improved a lot with the S5. But keep it in a case and look after it and it will be fine. I've had mine for 18 months and it still looks brand new.
- Knox and potential warranty issues, although this is something you will have to deal with on any new Samsung phone. The good thing now though is that you can root and install custom stock roms without tripping Knox.

You cannot. Because anything custom sets the trigger to 0X1.
You can use towelroot by downgrading the official kernel..then towel root..then upgrading it back.
Just the kernel

Incorrect. Custom stock roms can be installed if you follow the right procedure. Custom roms based upon CM/AOKP/AOSP cannot be installed though.

Buddy the phone is awesome.!
It is quite nice as compared to many out in the market.
Cm wont work because it is non touchwiz maybe.
According to the link..it does not have anything related to samsung or any of its components.
It is pure android.

The S4 is one of the best phones you can get right now in terms of value for money. Its about 340euro's over here and for that you get a 1 year old flagship phone that is still high end in most of its specs:
- The screen: not as good as the screen on the S5 but still pretty damn good
- The camera: same as above^
- The processor: good enough to do pretty much anything lagfree. Okay it doesn't score as high as the newest processors in benchmarks, but in dayly use you wont notice anything from that.
- The battery life is decent and gets you through the day. And if it isn't enough you can just swap the battery with anorther one and you're good to go.
The only weakness I see for the future is the GPU, now I don't know wether you are going for an Exynos or an Snapdragon version. But I wouldn't recommend the snapdragon if you are going to use the phone for heavy 3D gaming (games like Modern Combat 5) because the adreno 320 isn't really future proof. It runs most of the games and 3D games that came out in 2013 and first half of 2014 just fine though.
I hope I can help you make your choice for a new phone with this.
The 0x1 isn't a big deal, I had my phone replaced within warranty after frying the motherboard with a custom kernel and rom. So I 'd say its nothing to worry about
thanks for the feedback, can u give me a tutorial on which u fry the MB ? its warranty proof this way
Also i am getting the i9505 black edition, its the snapdragon one , i am living in EU, Romania. I don't do heavy gaming , i didn't had on what, but i think i wont play as much, i want it to be a base on my learning of android (or so i hope).
Also, i need to know what accessories to get, screen protector, covers and such. can i get a "fake" spigen slim armor? is it worth it?

It's still a great phone. Excellent Processor, Enough Ram, Decent Battery life (at least a day for me)
@charris
CyanogenMod requires a Custom Recovery to Install. Flashing a non-stock Recovery when you have the Knox Bootloader, will Trip Knox.
Flashing anything that is not Samsung/Stock with the Knox Bootloader will trip the Knox flag 0x1.

I messed with the voltages of the cpu and gpu, but I didn't know it was this bad for the phone. It had been running unstable for about 5 days before it didn't turn on anymore. I wouldn't advice anyone to do the same, because it was quite stupid. Before that happened I had the headphone jack and micro usb port replaced within warranty too(also with 0x1).
My recomendation for an case is the samsung protective cover+ its not expensive and it protects the phone very well. Also you dont need a screenprotector, the only thing that scratches the screen is sand or sandpaper. As long as you keep those 2 things out of your pockets there wont be any scratches. I don' t know about the spigen covers and if there are any replica's.
