[Q]Pink screen when downgrading from Aurora - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

I'm trying to downgrade from dzo's Aurora back to Gingerbread. I have copied over to the micro sd the dload file of 2.2.1, and when I connect the phone in order for it to install I get a pink screen. I tried to go directly to Gingerbread, but I also get a pink screen.
Can anyone help me with the downgrade?
EDIT: Now I switched sd cards and I don't get pink screen but it says "update failed" when Unpacking...

I heard you wanted to downgrade because you want to install CM10.1.
Well, there is no need to downgrade. You can flash CM10.1 over Aurora after wiping.
If you still have cwm recovery, go straight to CM10.1.

Do you have system partition? You need to revert to stock-partition if you haven't already done so.

How can I revert to stock partition then? I have no clue...
Thanks for your help!

I'd like to know this aswell.
I'm on Aurora and I'm trying to downgrade to official gingerbread B517 so I can unlock my network and I'm also getting a pink screen.
I do have the dload/update.app on the sdcard.
I tried reverting to the original_partition.zip from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1882261 (I had the 2gb fix) and I'm still getting the pink screen.

I solved it!!!
instead of having dload/UPDATE.APP in the external SD, I used the internal one and the pwr+volup+voldown worked. Instead of the pink screen, it updated to B517 and my phone is unlocked to any network and free to install custom roms (I was at aurora before but without unlocked networks).
I used the ES File Explorer app to copy the dload folder from the external to the internal SD. In ES file explorer settings I allowed to go to the root and the SD cards are in /mnt/sdcard1 and /mnt/sdcard2/ or something like that.
I turned off the device and removed the battery AND the external SD card
I connected the USB to my PC and turned the phone using pwr + volup + voldwn.
Instead of showing the pink screen, it updated.
I did the same to the other step (in B517 there are 2 steps)
I have unlocked networks and I am ready to install custom roms again
I also installed this patch http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457490 because I was not having USB in the pink screen but I don't know if you also have this issue.
Let me know if this works for you too. I think we had the same issue.

Why with USB cable? Did it not work with the battery? I also want to downgrade to froyo but just waiting for blefish to release his cm10. I also had only pink and no downgrade. I knew this method but never shared cause I did not try it myself. My USB cable sometimes doesn't fit in properly.

Can someone just tell me how to revert to stock partition please?

The steps are listed in the following post, just use the stock-partition zip file

Dont worry mate, your not doomed at all....the buzz kernel has put your phone in a bootloop, you need to flash the rom to fix it, you can flash a ruu (stock rom) or a custom rom which really is the best thing to do...so much faster thank stock...if you like sense then flash leedroids rom...if you like pure android then flash cyanogen...either way you need to put the rom onto your sd card then wipe everything using clockwork recovery...then flash the rom and your phone will be fixed.. If you then want to flash the kernel you should use the kernel utility update software found in the developers forums..
Really dont panic, let us know what rom you wish to flash and I or someone else will help you.

rixsta is right, its a boot loop, and what youve done is flashed the kernal onto your phone without doing a full wipe on the phone...
May i ask have you also install CM yet ?

Can you get into fastboot on your phone...
As in turn phone off hold down the bottom volume button and press power on...keep holding the volume button until the bootloader menu comes up...can you see fastboot??
or go into recovery and mount external storage and mount your SD card then itll appear on your PC if connected by USB

Yes true....but maybe using the kernel utility he can re flash the kernel and push the modules using this software....it sometimes works and would save him flashing a new rom and losing his stock one....I would try this first for sure..
Kernel Update Utility
If you go there, youll be able to flash a kernal easily like rixsta said.
If you still run aground, give the forum a buzz and we can see what else we can do...
Download the kernel utility here ..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=852357&highlight=kernel+utility
Get into fastboot as I said earlier and plug in your usb cable...aahhh the drivers may not install...bet he's not used android-sdk....with a bit of luck he's running windows 7 and they will install anyway..lets say they do..
Follow the utility instructions and flash the kernel...It may fix your bootloop...if not then you are going to have to mount your sd card using recovery and flash a new rom...

snap ......Im sure he needs the android 1.0 driver to use fastboot???....not used android-sdk using the cmd command for a while so I cant quite remember...(yes I know he wont need android-sdk but Im pretty sure the fastboot driver is in with it...
This is why I always say its so important to do a backup using recovery before you do anything !!

im sure this all fix over now, i would suggest flashing a custom rom... i sooooo bought this phone because the SE X10i's bootloader wast 1024-bit encrypted... and SE aernt letting up lol

Found another way to downgrade back too 2.2 [u8800]

Hello, while I was testing 2.3.5 witch was great except that the mobile network was not woorking at all. So I decided that I needed too downgrade. And when I was browsing the phone I accidentally found this way.
This has not been proofed by anyone else I think.
Disclaimer: I do not take the resposibility for your device.
1. Put the dload on the root of SD-card (I used 138sp4)
2. Then go to storage in preferences. Head too the bottom then choose "upgrade SD-card". The phone blacked out, started up and installed 2.2
3. The phone boots up in recovery because of many errors. I choose wipe data/chache and wipe chache and reboot.
4. The phone rebooted and I am back to 2.2.2 from 2.3.5.
This method keeps the start-boot-picture (does not know if the other sulutions keeps it).
Sorry for my bad grammar on some of the words. I just wrote them down and did not have the time to fix them.
Hmmm...interesting....maybe I should try 2.3.5 even if I have the Atmel screen. :/

I have atmel screen but I like it because i wear gloves and the screen is so sensitive that it responds thrugh them.
I was forced to downgrade from 3.2.5 to 2.2.2 for the exacly same reason and i tryied that same way you did and i couldnt do it, i got a message saying something like "there are no upgrade firmware inside the SD card". So i used the root & replace boot and recovery files to downgrade what was a sucess. Got the same issues as you with the boot but the "wipe data/chache" from recovery resolved it.

Froyo to Gingerbread, update failed

Hi, i tried to update from android 2.2.2 to 2.3.5 but i got a problem... i put the "dload" folder into my 16GB sdcard and press both volym keys while pressing the power button. Its unpacking and everything but when it changes to "installing" i get a message that the "update failed".
How do i fix this?
Things i have tried: Formatted sdcard and put "dload" folder into it
Downloaded an other gingerbread update
Factory reset and then tried update
Start the update from the internal sdcard
Start the update without the battery inserted and USB connected
Please help me!

I had the same problem. So, I will point 2 things:
1. It may be a slow card. Try to add the dload folder in the internal card.
2. In case you use the B512, you need to put the UPDATE.APP and UPDATE_G.APP in the dload folder at the same time.

A Custom ROM will always work !!
But you will and cannot upgrade with the Original Releases by HUAWEI
( please check if you still have your IMEI )
I had the same trouble as you did
And if you still have warranty then send it back !!
PS :
I tried fast MicroSD cards and slow 2GB 4GB 8GB and 16GB no luck at all
Internal memory same issues
With Battery or without still no luck
If original update fails while using sdcard try to copy dload folder into internal disk then unmount the sdcard and try to update again.
If your imei isnt nulled %99 it should update.
Btw please consider backing your imei before doing any update with 5iromtoolbox.

[Q] My poor huawei u8800 update trying..

I was not using for 1 year, 3 days ago i tried to update it from 2.3.5. I searched some roms and could not decide which one was for me, only i wanted was long battery. I started to install aurora with cwm but now after boorting, it shows huawei logo and then going into black screen.
And everything was deleted. I had made circle battery, and partionaded sdcard and memory to increase memory card capacity.
Now, when i connect to pc, i cant see the driver info. I installed adb drivers but it gave errors.
I dont know what to do and which rom to update...
Please help me to solve this.
How do you update to Aurora?
Can you go to CWM recovery? And bootloader (pink screen)?
Did you format data, system, cache before udpdate to any custom rom?
btw you can boot on Aurora with partitioned disk but try with default partition just to be sure. My advice is downgrade to stock rom then root, change recovery and then update to any custom rom.

There is your problem. You were supposed to flash aurora 5.0 experimental zip file first. After that you have to flash the update 20 zip file (without wiping).
So, have you tried going into cwm recovery > mounts and storage > mount USB storage. Then connect the phone to your computer

I didn't understand until now that you haven't got sd external card lol. You need to install aurora_v5 first and after that update20 or update 21.
But if you can boot to recovery you should connect to internal sd to pc and show as usb disk. Try that.

Yes, you have to make sure you have upgraded to official 2.3.5. After that, flash Aurora v5 Experimental. Then flash update 20 on top without wiping.
It would be easier if you get a MicroSD card Reader.

[Q] Challengings for Brain users like me!

Hi guys,
First of all, i apologize if I post in a wrong forum, kind of new in XDA. Wanted to thank you all, because, even though, I didn't register, your forum helps me A LOT with android phones... I'm facing a situation with an HTC, and as I surfed the web, and no one seems to have the same problem, I'm adressing it in this forum.
I bought an refurbished mytouch 4g glacier on amazon. When it came, in addition to be locked (not a big problem), I couldn't enter the settings (the linked program is no longer installed on your phone) and worst, there is no dialpad. I assumed that the owner tried to flash it with a corrupt version...
As it is for me a brain challenge, i decided to try to fix it...
I made a factory reset with the buttons (pwr+vol down), same thing! I tried recovery, I think with the S-ON, it didn't work (red triangle). I tried to use wifi to download things or a file manager, but you'll need to access the settings options, and I don't have access. I download SDK manager, but the phone needs to be usb debugging to be found by pc, and I can't access the settings options. I download an usb debugging apk, put it in the sd card, but as there is no file explorer, I could access it...
This is why I asked your help. This is a Glacier pvt ship s-on, with green fonts, (cyanogen 7?: there were a difference with green fonts and orange fonts...)
Thanks in advance.

Ditto. If you don't know whether the phone is rooted, I would just flash the PD15IMG of the stock 2.3.4 ROM by loading the file onto the root of the SD card and booting into the bootloader (volume down + power). Then if after you are sure it works you want to root it, you can always go on from there.
In terms of figuring out which ROM you have, since you can't get to the 'about phone', if your boot animation just has the Tmobile MyTouch 4g logo on a white background, followed by a circular green MyTouch logo, then you are probably on the stock ROM. If it was CM7 or anything else, it would usually have a different custom boot animation.
Good luck!
You can also tell which stock version you are running: 2.2.1 has no quick settings tab in the notification drawer while 2.3.4 does.

Thank you for your quick answer... I have already done this 5 days ago. I downloaded the PD15img, put it in the sd card (actually, i didn't know which extension to put in the sd card, so i unzip the file and i let the zip one: i put both in the sd assuming the phone will use the best extension it needs!). I use pwr+ vol down, nothing happen.
Any ideas? Maybe if i found an update version of the pd15img?
Thanks for your help
Guys, I'm blessed...Not because I found the solution yet, but because I found you thinking with me!
It seems I have the 2.3.4, because, as you said, I have the quick drawer icon. I have already try the bootloader, but i will try again from the beginning. I will download again the pd15img (if it was a problem while downloading) and revert to you in 2 hours.
Thank you again!
It should be a file named PD15IMG.zip. Any file by that name placed in the root of the sd card will be flashed through the hboot bootloader. Don't unzip it. If it is named exactly that, when you boot into the bootloader via vol down + power, it should scan for it, and if it detects the file, it will ask if you want to update.
Be sure you are using the right PD15IMG.zip file (2.3.4 Stock). There are a lot of files by that name, since it is used to flash all kinds of things (radios, etc.). Looks like it might be available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1476745&highlight=pd15img&page=10

I do have the Tmobile MyTouch 4g logo on a white background, followed by a circular green MyTouch logo. I'm on the stock rom then? Is that make any difference or I can still process with downloading pd15img? Anyway, that's worth the try!
I'll keep you posted
It does sound like you are definitely on stock 2.3.4 since you have the stock boot animation, and the notification bar quick drawer that was introduced with gingerbread 2.3.4.
It only makes a difference if you aren't rooted. If you weren't rooted and flashed a different ROM it probably wouldn't work, and you could get stuck in a boot loop (couldn't get past the hboot menu). But, the fix would be to flash the stock PD15IMG anyway, so you should be fine. Either way, nothing is going to happen unless you flash something, because it sounds like system files have been deleted.
I'm still kind of a noob, but I feel pretty confident with that. I've messed up before and recovered from hboot with a PD15IMG file. Your hboot and recovery sound like they are stock. Just be sure once you have it working that you remove or rename the PD15IMG file from your sdcard, otherwise it will keep trying to flash it when you boot into the bootloader.

I followed your link and downloaded the pd15img from there. i placed it in the sd...It detects it like earlier and still give me the message: sd checking....loading pd15img.zip....no image or wrong file image.
Any more ideas?
Some ideas here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1035044
one person suggested making sure the sd card is FAT32 formatted, seemed to help his issue.
Also, you might want to be sure that even if it gives you that error message, there isn't a loading bar on the right hand side of the screen making progress. If I recall the last time I did it, it wasn't obvious it had worked, and loaded for a few minutes before popping up with 'do you want to update?'
Did you try both the 2.3.4 and the '2.3.4 new' file found on the aforementioned page?

Good and bad news!!!
The good news: It really makes a difference indeed to format the sd in Fat32. Although i formated it many times, as I used to see FAT, I didn't know there were another option for FAT32. Well, after format it in FAT32, i put the file in the sd card: pd15img loads successfully...
Bad news: I hurrily check if I can access the option: "the linked program is no longer installed on your phone".
At least, we know formating sd card in FAT32 does make a difference!.
Maybe I should try another new rom like 2.3.6?
Any ideas is welcomed!
Thank you
Wow, head scratcher. If you were rooted with a custom recovery I'd say you probably need to format the system partition and wipe data and cache before flashing, but obviously you can't do that. Might be worth trying a few times to force it through?
I think this is out of my league at this point. Hopefully someone smarter than me will pop in!
Only other thought is maybe something can be done through fastboot? But I wouldn't know what.

Yes I did! I even try the 2.2.1...All of them load successfully, but still without succes. It's like they are installed somewhere in the phone, but the original that has the problem never moved.
Is that because S is on?

Thank you a lot for your help. It's been useful cause I learned a lot, much more than alone. If I get through this, I will post.
My next thinking is to download USB debug apk into the phone, so maybe, it will enable the option and I could use adb. But in order to do that, i should pay to unlock it...(wondering if it worth it). As soon as i put a sim in it, i know my carrier would install the apn settings for me automatically, so i would be online and be able to download. I try the wifi options, but i couldn't connect.
Could you help me with the unlock?
Thanks in advance
I think that recovery file is for 2.2.1......
Get S-Off bro. Doesn't the stock image have a file explorer? I don't remember.
