clean rom 2.3 android or a update - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi I have the clean rom installed with twrp custom recovery.
today when I opened my tablet it said that a system update has been downloaded and I should restart to install 4.3. I said yes and it rebooted and went normally into custom recovery but was just sitting there after that.
I have rebooted again into clear rom and nothing seems to be broken. queries :
how was the ota update downloaded on a custom rom?
where is it stored?
can I directly go to the stock system after installing it through clean rom?
is there a risk of bricking?
what's the best way to stay rooted and switch to stock 4.3?

The best way is to wait for the rom your using to update that way you can keep all your data or just flash the the 4.3 zip n the Dev thread

Clean rom is no longer developed.

Safe to take the update?

I never got the original ICS update OTA, after trying every troubleshooting suggestion ASUS had to offer I finally just said screw it and rooted my TF101 and installed the ROM manually from here. Now, strangely enough, I am getting the latest one OTA with the option to postpone only 3 times, I'm not concerned with losing root or anything, I just don't want to brick my tablet. Is it safe to take the update?
Do you have CWM installed?
It generally is a bad idea to install official OTA's on a rooted device. If you're running a normal Asus Rom modified to keep root you might want to just flash ARHD while you're at it
Thats what I thought, thanks for confirming that for me. What exactly is ARHD? I do have CWM installed.

Anyone have any issues trying to update with the stock ROM and recovery (not rooted either)? My wife's will download the update and reboot where it shows the android guy and the progress bar that gets to about 1/3 the way across, then get the Android guy with the Exclamation point in the triangle. Tried it twice.
Anyone else getting this?
Just so I have it straight ...
I have the same issue. I have an updated to ICS and rooted the device (no custom ROM) TF101. I have CWM installed.
I have the option to update the firmware ....
1) should I unroot and install the OTA update? Then re-root?
2) Go ahead and install regardless
3) Then I can install the ARWD?
4) some other option ????
I have looked and I haven't found a clear answer.

This is what I did with mine. It updates everything but your recovery since you have a custom one on yours. This was the easiest thing with CWM installed with the stock ICS ROM
Thanks folks! I have my answer.

[Q] Nexus 4.2.1 UPDATE failed with Clockwork mod

Can you please help me answer how to install OTA updated with CWM installed. I get this error saying the installation aborted .. it boots into CWM
is there any step by step method to get the new update on nexus 4
Thanks
you need stock rom, no modifications made, and stock kernel for it to work
Download and extract the original 4.2 and fastboot flash system system.img and it'll restore all missing apps.. I had to do it earlier to allow the system to install the update

update manually.
So I got my update but it keeps failing during install. I'm rooted and every time the update starts it kicks over to CWM recovery and stops with a message something like, "do you want to install this untrusted zip file" I say yes but it still fails. I have even tried to manually install the update through CWM but that fails too. My N7 is rooted but otherwise stock, I have not removed any stock apps or flashed roms or kernels so WTF must I do???
Did you not read the posts above yours? CWM recovery is not stock.

I don't know where, but I saw a few posts about working updates to 4.2.1 with CWM recovery.
However, I'm not getting it to work.
How do I get rid of the recovery without loosing the root?
If you are on Windows I find the Nexus 4 Toolkit to be super easy to use. I flashed a stock recovery so I could get the update. Unfortunately, I forgot I had made changes to the stock weather widget so I can't apply the update anymore because of a missing geniewidget.odex file.
You will need to be fully stock to get the update to take as posted earlier in this thread. This is a well known requirement when doing OTA

Hey, can some please post the stock Nexus 4 v4.2 build.prop file? I can't seem to install the v4.2.1 update without it...
Thanks...

Successfully installed OTA here while rooted with CWM recovery, though everything else is stock.

Hey,
got an Error over here with stock recovery and root.
However, tengen says he made it with CWM and root - maybe it's because I'm using stuff like Busybox or the Pimp my Rom APK?
EDIT: I think its because of the %-BatteryMod I'm using. I'll try to flash the custom rom.
Greetings

Update to 4.3 if rooted?

I'm on stock 4.2.2 and have TWRP and am rooted. Can I just get the wifi version of the new release and use TWRP to install it? If not what's the easiest way to go back to completely stock as if I took it out of the box so I can just do an OTA.?
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Nope. Can't flash through TWRP.
You can use Wugfresh's tool kit to flash the new ROM.
I installed 4.3 manually through fastboot. Afterwards it only showed 6GB available instead of 27.5 so I reformatted to correct it.
So whats needed to just revert back to stock recovery and unroot it so I can just get the OTA update? Ive read a ton of posts and they are all a bit different in what they say. I have the stock ROM from google saved as well as the recovery.

Nexus 4 no command but phone working please help

Hello. I have a nexus 4 that until recently i was running on 4.3 with a custom kernel from faux123 and paranoid android rom and twrp custom recovery.
Finally i decided to update it to stock 4.4 for which i restored a nandroid i had made back when the phone had stock 4.3 on it. Also, the nandroid had happened to have stock rom but custom kernel (same faux123 one). Also, before restoring nandroid i made ti backup for my apps which i successfully restored after nandroid restore.
So now i decided to flash the default 4.3 kernel which i did successfully. Now i thought i was ready for the ota update since i had everything stock except recovery so i went ahead and checked for updates.
First up was jwr66y(before that i was on 66v) which successfully downloaded and installed. Then came the 240 mb 4.4 update which downloaded but while installing after reboot gave me the dead android with 'error' message.
I then rebooted the phone which works ok but shows 4.3 as my version and also tells me im already up to date on checking for updates. So now i decided to flash ota manually using zip. However now on booting in recovery, it doesnt take me to the TWRP screen but simply shows dead android with no command message.
Also, root seems to be gone. However rest of the phone works alright. How do i fix this and successfully install 4.4 kitkat? Please help. Also can anybody shed light on why it might have happened so i can prevent it in the future.

Flash the complete 4.4 KRT16S factory image. Download from here and extract the zip to your adb/platform tools directory. Make sure your drivers are working properly. If you don't want your data wiped, edit flash-all.bat and remove -w. Connect your phone and boot into the bootloader (you can do this by opening cmd in adb directory and entering "adb reboot bootloader"). Now simply run the flash-all script and wait for it to complete. You are now on KitKat 4.4
Flash TWRP and anything else you want to flash. Download and flash the 4.4.2 update if you want.
Thanks a lot for the quick reply. I managed to get root and twrp back using wugfresh's kit. It seems to me that twrp is not good with OTAs(there is a page on their site re. this) which might be the reason for this mess.
So now instead of flashing the zip using adb, can i do it with twrp? I dont have much experience with adb since i have always used twrp. (I am not averse to using cmd but the 480 mb download for the sdk just to get adb and stuff puts me off).
Do I necessarily need to wipe my data to install the kitkat update?

Unable to update to 4.4.3 due to custom recovery

Hello,
I run rooted Nexus 4, Stock ROM running Franco Kernel #207 with TeamWin recovery.
My device is promoting me to install the new update but when I run the installation and automatically restarts the device it goes straight to recovery and nothing happens afterwards. So, I end up loading my device normally with nothing installed. I have been sitting on this update for 2 days so far with no solution found. Are there any way to bypass the recovery so that installation can go normally?
I really would like to just install the update without a fresh installation for now, if I started to face some issues after the installation I guess I will have no other choice but to do a fresh installation.
Thank you.
You may be able to flash update if you install stock recovery

You have to be on stock system, kernel and recovery. You'll also lose root
